We're talking about transits, um, that's different, obviously, from the natal chart because the natal chart is what we're born with. That's the static print of our personality. It's the potentials. It's the, uh, the particular flavor of our wine. But we do change. So we are the birth chart, that, that's descriptive of us. That's our potentials. That's the basic blueprint. But we aren't exactly as we were when we were young because we grow, we change. We encounter different things in the environment, relationships, people, crises. All these things can change us and can really instill upon us.
So transits are the encounters, the experiences, the goings-on in the environment that encourage growth and potentially change us. It's what we're going to meet out in the world and, uh, how is that going to move us? What are we going to learn from that? So transits are the moving planets. Transit means to move through, a temporary movement. So it was, it's what is not permanent. It's transitory. So how we deal with transits, the choices that we make as we encounter these cyclical lessons, determines how we potentially change and grow. So what do we do with the things that happen to us? How do we respond to these events and these predictable archetypal lessons that we encounter? It's going to be different for all of us. We all have different potentials. We are all struck by transits differently, and we can choose. We have the ability to develop very individually in accordance to transits that we all share.
So the planets through Sun through Mars are the inner planets. These are the personal planets. And we call the Sun and the Moon planets in astrology, even though they are not. The Sun is a star, the Moon is a satellite of the Earth. We know that, but we refer to them as planets for the sake of simplicity. Transits of the inner planets are less consequential and often less stressful than transits of the outer planets because of speed. The outer planets work on us longer and deeper and more severely. Inner planets can act as triggers, culminators for these longer, more consequential outer planet transits. That's often something we're looking for when we are looking for events or prediction or analyzing a transit in general.
So let's talk about some of the specifics that happen with specific transits of specific planets. The transits of the Sun will bring encounters with identity and ego development and confidence expression, vitality. The Sun travels at about 53 seconds per day, just under a degree. So the Sun takes a year to go through all of the different degrees, to travel the entire zodiac. Just gonna get comfortable here, guys. Hold my feet up. And the Sun spends about one month in each sign. So with the Sun, these are very temporary transits. It's really gonna only be one to three days that we strongly feel a transit from the Sun. It does move very, very quickly in relation to outer planets, which can take years to transit a particular point or degree or planet. So we don't look at the transits of the Sun to tell us about long-term events. And, uh, we don't look at transits to this of the Sun to our planets to tell us about, uh, deeply moving or transformational kind of events. It's more about, um, expression. When we may go to a party on a certain day, when we may feel particularly confident or not, um, how our ego and our identity is, uh, I would say, expressing itself. Uh, and but what's the quality of that expression? So transits of the Sun don't tend to be the most deeply moving. And if you go to an astrologer and talk about transits, the chances are the astrologer isn't going to spend very much time talking about transits of the inner planets because that's not where the meat is at. That's not where you want to spend your money. That's not, uh, the major, um, life-changing or consequential or memorable events that we have happen in our life. That's mainly going to be from Jupiter on out, particularly Saturn on out, is where we see the meat when it comes to transits. But the Sun can be a culminating planet, something that brings something to a crescendo or a peak that triggers something that's already there. Such as if we have a, say, a difficult transit from Mars to Pluto, that could be a very long transit because Pluto takes a long time, or Pluto to Mars, I should say. Um, I'm sorry, just saying somebody else wants to come into the meeting. Say we have a planet, a transit of Pluto to Mars, and then we have the Sun come into the picture and say it ends up in a difficult aspect to both Pluto and Mars. That could be very likely be a day where we have a particular amount of confrontation or friction that can bring what has been happening between Mars and Pluto to a head, where we can really see a, um, a significant event, a circumstance related to that. But the Sun in itself is not something that we look for to show us long-term changes or events.
Transits of the Moon, let's talk about that. Let me pull up my different, uh, picture here. Oh, look, let me switch my camera. You're looking into my guest closet there. There we go. Okay. So transits of the Moon, uh, encounters with, uh, emotions, feelings, uh, the deep, the inner life, our stability, our security, intimate relationships, moods, family interactions, our appetite, our stomach, our moods are very much related to our appetite and our feelings, very much related to our ability to eat, nourishment, and things of that nature. Again, the Moon is a very brief transiting factor. It's, um, something that can show, uh, brief, usually one day, sometimes half a day, periods of time where we can be under the influence of that particular transit. The Moon moves very, very quickly through the zodiac. So, um, we only have about two and a half days with the Moon in a particular sign. And, uh, it's only a matter really of a day or hours where it can be very personally affecting a planet or a point. So it's another planet that can be a culminating factor, a triggering factor.
Transits of Mercury, let's talk about that. Transits of Mercury bring encounters with thinking, speech, cognitive ability, reasoning, transit communication, adaptability, that's a big one, routine working relationships, our health, how we manage our, our health and our daily life. And Mercury moves about one degree per day. So, um, both Mercury and Venus are very much attached to the Sun. They are, um, always within a very short, uh, distance of the Sun. They all travel together. And, uh, so they all take about a year to transit the entire zodiac. Mercury is going to spend different amounts of time in different signs depending on if he's direct, forward, retrograde. We will have lessons about those things. What is direct? What is forward? What does retrograde have? Does that relate to transit? So we're going to talk about all of that over the course of time. I'll probably in the next lesson talk about some of those technicalities before we really get into the meat of describing different transits. Um, so he is usually in a sign for about a month. It depends on if he is retrograde. If he's retrograde, it can be quite a long period of time. Um, sometimes it can feel like it's forever, the Mercury is retrograde in a particular sign, up to a couple of months. But typically, it is just a month that he will transit a particular sign. So Mercury is also a culminating or triggering planet in transit because the transits of Mercury are just going to last really a couple of days, maybe up to a week. It's, uh, not a long period of time that we will be under the effect of that particular planet.
Transits of Venus, let's talk about that, where we have encounters with relationships, assets, valuations, self-esteem, money, money, money, money, money, enjoyment, sensuality, and preferences. Venus is very much about what we have, what we give, what we have to offer, what's in our account, our own assets, our self-esteem, um, how we value ourselves. So that's, uh, you know, something that can work on this, oh, you know, for about a week or even last, you know, half a week, several days. The transits of Venus, depending on if an inner planet hits a stellium of planets in our natal chart, of course, that would take a lot longer for it to move through because it has to move through these dominoes that are in our chart. But, um, it takes about a year because the Sun, Mercury, and Venus tend to travel together, um, about a month in each sign for Venus as well.
And let's talk about the transits of Mars, the last inner planet. And Mars is what we consider a trans-inner, trans-social planet. It's kind of in the middle there because we have all the inner planets, which are fairly close together, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, they're fairly close to each other, into the Sun, close to the Sun. But then we have the asteroid belt. We have quite a lot of space between Venus and Mars with a few asteroids. And there are a few minor archetypes that we have to traverse to get to Mars. So Mars is a somewhat social planet. It does take a bit longer to work his way around. And Mars transits can work on us for a week or two. Um, they are not, uh, the quickest, uh, transits. But they are not like outer planet transits where it can be up to six months to a year to three years that we could really be worked on. Mars is often a culminating planet, often the triggering planet when we have outer planet transits because that trigger and the consequences, you know, that could take a couple of weeks to work out. So, um, Mars, we're dealing with assertiveness, anger, our ego, our maturity, uh, confrontation, winning, sexuality, or impulsiveness, self-control. So very much how we act on our impulses and the consequences that can come from that. And it can also, um, bring encounters with dangerous or angry or confrontational people out in the world, depending on what the particular transit is that we're going through when we have outer planet transits working on us. Um, so he spends, you know, a month and a half, a couple of months in each sign. And it takes about two and a half years to go through the entire zodiac. Do we have any questions about the inner planets before we move on to talking about the outer planets? Nope. Okay. All right. So let me find my last picture here, my next picture.
Outer planet transits are much more consequential. Oh, that's supposed to say "because," but I have a typo up there. I'll have to fix that. Because of how long they work on us, also their social implications. We can be deeply, oh, sorry, guys, didn't put that up for you. There you go. Um, we can be deeply changed by outer planet transits. Outer planet transits are potentially going to last for, you know, up to three years, depending on what the, uh, planet is. Neptune and Pluto can be about a three-year event because of the time and because of the depth of the lessons that we learn. Outer planet transits are extremely memorable, and they can put the most pressure on us.
The transits of Jupiter usually, uh, work on us for six months to a year, depending because Jupiter can spend about a year in a particular house, a particular sign. Um, it will be typically months where we will be feeling the, uh, the, the crescendo part when things are exact. That is when we tend to see events. We tend to see things happening related to transits is when they are the closest to exact, whether that is when they are forward or when they're retrograde. And I think next week we will talk about forward and retrograde and what, uh, the implications of that are in transits. So, um, the closer the transit aspect is, the more likely we are to see something actually happen. But during the entire course of that transit, there is a percolating process. Things are still happening. We just may not see an actual event related to that. Closer, uh, transit is the more likely we are to see something happen. But that doesn't mean that that particular lesson isn't going on the whole time. So I was trying to think of an example. Um, Mars to Pluto. So we're dealing with issues of confrontation, anger, uh, bringing things to the surface when it comes to, you know, those Martian themes because it's Pluto transiting to Mars, right? Um, and then if, uh, Pluto happens to be, you know, very, very close to the degree that Mars is at, we can see, you know, an actual confrontation or burst of anger or maybe somebody, um, taking out their anger on you, depending how you're handling that transit. Um, but the whole about three-year period of time, we're dealing with that same theme, which it just may not have that actual event until we have that actual exactitude, the, uh, more exact aspect occur. But the theme is still occurring all around that. So, um, with Jupiter, it can be months where we will have, uh, actual events, uh, that that can happen or the, um, the opportunities that can come, uh, the encounters, the doors that Jupiter can open for us. We can be dealing with those things for several months at a time. But throughout that whole year that we have a Jupiter transit, it's that general theme that is going on there. But if we have say, an inner planet that is in aspect to a planet that's being transited by Jupiter, that can also be something that will bring a particular event, a trigger, be a culminating planet. Um, so the planets from Jupiter on out, we tend to look at those as more long-term transits, but with the possibility of triggers, other, other planets transiting that can come in and show added action. Uh, so Jupiter takes about a year to go all the way around and, [Music] I'm sorry, 12 years to go all the way around and spends one year in each particular sign.
Saturn, let's talk about transits of Saturn. This was where things start to get, uh, very lengthy. Um, Saturn takes about 29 and a half years, between 29 and 30 years, to travel the entire zodiac and about a two and a half year stay in each sign or in a house. If you have a house that is about 30 degrees, depending on what house system you use. Um, these are themes and encounters with maturity that Saturn brings, responsibility, our career path, our destiny, what are we going to become, our authority, how we deal with authority, status, security, confidence, how we go out and make something of ourself in the world, and our direction. Is our direction really in our own hands? So Saturn transits can be very, very serious, have very long, far-reaching consequences, as all of the outer planet transits can, in my opinion, from Saturn on out. And because he, uh, does, uh, spend a lengthy amount of time in each sign, two and a half years is a good amount of time to, um, know, have a certain theme be brought up. Um, it can be about six months, four months where Saturn will exactly travel a, across a particular point or planet in our own chart. And, um, so we can have, uh, more lengthy periods of time in our life where we will be under a certain amount of pressure to deal with these Saturn themes and encounters in our life. Saturn transits do tend to bring, uh, a type of austerity. We may, we may be dealing with less. We may be prioritizing. We may be working with what we have. So things are a bit stripped down when we have Saturn transits.
The transits of Uranus, let's talk about that. These are encounters with personal freedom, fame, our network, rebellion, autonomy, change, progress, disruptive innovation. And, um, Uranus, it takes a lifetime, takes a human lifetime to transit the entire zodiac, about 84 years, and spends about seven years in each sign. So the transits of Uranus to our personal planets or points, this can take up to a full year to complete, year and a half. Sometimes people can feel Saturn transits for a couple of years. It's likely that, uh, I'm sorry, Uranus, I apologize. Uranus transits, um, it's likely that we will have the Uranus transit go forward, retrograde, forward, retrograde over a certain point or planet in our own chart. When we have a Uranus transit, and very often we'll have Saturn as well, who can go forward and retrograde, forward and retrograde. Sometimes we can get very lucky. But the Saturn transit only have one pass. Usually, it will be at least a couple passes or three passes with the Saturn transit. Uranus transit, we will likely get multiple passes because of how long Uranus will sit at a certain point, a certain degree, how long it takes them to transit a certain place. So about a year, year and a half to complete a Uranus transit to any planet in our chart or point.
Transits of Neptune, let's talk about that. These bring encounters, issues with illusion, delusion, idealism, romanticism, spirituality, mysteries, addictions, nihilism, confusion, and often clarity. Sometimes we get clarity, usually during the second half of a Neptune transit. The first half can be very confusing. Uh, it takes a long time for Neptune to transit the entire zodiac. Really, in age, it takes a mini age for a Neptune to transit the entire zodiac. And it takes a grand age for Pluto to transit the entire zodiac. That's how I think of it. Those are not official astrology terms. Those are my terms. So, um, Neptune spends about 14 years in each sign. And, um, about a three-year period of time for both Neptune and Pluto transits to complete. Neptune, [Music] yeah, definitely two years. I often hear people describe Neptune coming in and going out up to a three-year period of time. Definitely a two-year investment when we're dealing with a Neptune transit. Um, we can feel like we're melting down under Neptune transit to whatever planet or point we are dealing with, confusion and lack of solidity. Um, we can have a crisis of faith. These are very, very life-changing transits. We discover things when we have Neptune transits and when we have Pluto transits.
So let's look at the transits of Pluto. These bring encounters with deep learning, transformation, stress, letting go, healing, psychological unraveling, loss, obsession, insecurity, and security, death anxiety. Um, these can be very strengthening transits from Pluto to planets or points, but often that's after we've crumbled. But Neptune is very much the same. Neptune and Pluto, we tend to melt down before we melt up. We tend to fall apart before we fall back together in a better way. So there's a loss that comes with Pluto transits, and often we understand the wisdom of that loss or of that letting go. That's what we hope for during a Pluto transit. Pluto takes about 248, 250 years to transit the entire zodiac, and he will spend vastly different amounts of time in different signs because he has an egg-shaped elliptical orbit. So between 10 or 20 years in a particular sign. It's been in Capricorn for ever. So, um, the houses that the outer planets fall into in your chart is what you want to look at. Not the sign. The sign is showing the collective, um, I said the collective transits. It was collectively being changed, worked on. What is a collective theme? But the house in our chart is where that particular outer planet is personally working on us. What does it mean to us? So, um, the transits are bringing us different lessons depending on what the planet transiting is. And those planets can be, those lessons can be lengthy, inconsequential, or they can be very temporary and superficial.
