If you want to get cited in ChatGPT like these sources, you want to get into here. This is what you have to do. These are the top ranking factors for getting cited in AI.

The most important is that you have content that is relevant to the searches that ChatGPT is doing. Pretty much the top spots just say what I just told you.

To see what ChatGPT is searching, copy the part of your ChatGPT URL that comes after /c, right click, inspect, go to network, paste in what you just copied, refresh the page, click the orange brackets with what you go to response, search response for the word queries. Right here, you see what ChatGPT actually searched.

Now that you can see ChatGPT's searches, you can make content that is relevant to it. The importance of relevance to what ChatGPT is searching is so, so important. It is literally the top ranking factor.

In your content, put your answer near the top. This is something a lot of people don't know to do. It's just best for all content. This is from the SEO subreddit, how adding TLDR boosted my conversions by 33%. For articles, I added a short two to three sentence summary at the top giving the main points right away. For product pages, I wrote a quick summary of the product's features and benefits placed right under the title. Users like seeing the answer at the top, so do LLMs.

Something else, cite your sources. This SEO test had 10 equal pages all trying to rank for the made up word valandassic. The results are clear as day. The five pages that linked out, that cited their sources, all ranked above the pages that did not. These are the pages that did not link out. These are the pages that did link out. Cite your sources. Works for AI too.

Freshness of content doesn't actually matter as much as people think. If you heard people telling you to use an LLMs.txt, this is the least important factor on this list. You also don't need to think too much about schema markup. Structured data is way down on this list.

The most important things to do: Have content that is relevant to what ChatGPT is searching. Have clear content with answers at the top. When possible, cite your sources.
