BC. Judah was born, and the word âpraiseâ was coined. The original Israel word is *yada*; it means to brag on someoneâs qualities or abilities. And so, what is worship? Well, Iâm going to try to define it today, but itâs not going to be easy. In fact, I donât know that I will accomplish it today, but at least Iâll give you a consort, something to look at, to understand the differences.
I think itâs too big to be described in one message. I think itâs way too big to be understood in 45 minutes, but we can begin to understand what worship is, and we can begin to understand what not defining worship will bring us to. And itâs an apostate church to not understand worship; is to become apostate. To not define worship and keep it defined is to wind up in an apostate church. When I tithe, I worship. When I give offerings, I worship. When I preach, I worship. When I sing, I worship. And any other sacrifice I am worshiping. Praise is a small part of worship, but itâs a very small part. You can praise without worshiping, but if youâre a worshiper, you will praise. [Applause]
Now, I donât want to do any damage to praise, and I donât want to do any damage to praisers. I want to be careful that what I preach today does not damage what we do, because praise has its place. Again, praise is a part of what we do. Yes, sir. But when the devil canât get us to quit, or get offended, or get bitter, this he likes to get our priorities mixed up; get us to do the right things the wrong way, or for the wrong motives, or to maximize on what matters little and minimize what matters most. Are you hearing me today? Are you staying with me today? Man, Iâm preaching to all of us, me included. I do not want praise to hijack this Apostolic church, and that is exactly whatâs going to happen to spirit-filled churches all across this world right before the Antichrist takes over. Praise is going to hijack the church. In fact, Iâm literally watching it happen in some places.
In Psalms 150, we get a mandate: âLet everything that hath breath praise the Lord.â Hereâs the problem: praise costs nothing; anyone can give it. There are no prerequisites; just brag on God, tell of his goodness, and talk about all that he can do. But thatâs a big difference from worship. Everything that hath breath will praise; the trees praise the Lordâthey hadnât been filled with the Holy Ghost; animals brag on the goodness of Godâthey havenât changed their life; when the bird sing, theyâre praising the Lordâthey hadnât been to an altar, theyâre making no sacrifices. Praise is free; anybody can do it. Hereâs the real problem, according to Acts 16:16-17: if yâall will put it up there for me, according to Acts 16 and 17, demons praise the Lord. âMy God,â the same followed Paul and us, talking about a demon-possessed woman saying, âThese men are the Servants of the most high God,â which showing us the way of Salvation. And the disciples recognized it and said, âCome out of her, you unclean Spirit.â Man, when you praise, youâre just doing what demons can do. It ought to be done; itâs part of what we do, but itâs not the same thing as worship.
If youâre a Bible scholar at all, you understand the law of first mention. Yeah, you understand that when something is first mentioned in the Bible, from then on you define what happens afterwards every time itâs mentioned by the first mention; that is the definition of what it is. And in Genesis 22, we find the first mention of what worship is. Abraham says in Genesis 22, âYeah, I and the lad will go yonder and worship.â He was going to sacrifice, sir, his son; it was going to take total commitment; it was going to take a life change; everything about his world and his home and his life and his family was about to be altered. Thatâs the first time worship is mentioned in your Bible, and from then on worship will be defined by complete sacrifice; a lifestyle that says, âIâll give anything up that you tell me to give up. Iâll walk away from whatever you tellââ Oh, I knew that wasnât going to get a big response, âcause you like praise, but you donât want to worship. Oh, my, my, my, my, my! I shouldnât have said it like that; forgive me. Iâve been talking to our evangelist about that; let me include myself. We like praise; itâs not so easy for us to worship.
Now we see the difference between praise and worship. Anybody can praise, but not many people are willing to commit what it takes to be a worshiper. You see, worship costs you everything. Worship involves deep sacrifice; not anyone can give it, because everyoneâs not willing to give God what he asks. You see, praise is just about what he is. Praise is just about what he is. Worship is also about what Iâm willing to become. Praise is all about what he is; worship is about what he is and what I am willing to become in order to please him. You see, some situations praise just donât fit. I donât feel like praising when Iâm sacrificing; I donât feel like praising when Iâm hurt, when Iâm enduring the trying of my patience. But when I come on to church anyway, when others would give up; when I come on to church anyway, when others would quit, that, brothers and sisters, is worship. [Applause] Under no other circumstances would Abraham been willing to have taken Isaacâs life; for no other reason; his wife couldnât have made him do it; his friends couldnât have made him do it; nothing could have made Abraham be willing to sacrifice Isaac except God. That is worship: when youâre willing to do for God what you wouldnât do for anybody else; when youâre willing to give for God what you wouldnât give any other circumstances, but when it comes time and God asks for it, you can say, âThatâs it; thatâs it; whatever you see.â Worship is sacrifice; worship is total surrender. Praise is just emotion; praise is a light, feathery thing; praise is just expression. I praise buildings; I praise men, but I dare not worship them. Praise is vital to what we do as Apostolic Believers; itâs a part of worship, but itâs a small part, while worship, on the other hand, is all-encompassing. God never sought praise; God sought worshippers. And I say in 14 in Ezekiel 28, we find the war in heaven, and itâs over worship. The Bible says that Lucifer profaned the sanctuary; the war in the sanctuary is not about praise, itâs about worship. Praise is selfish; itâs carnal; itâs excitement, and itâs emotional. Worship, on the other hand, is spiritual; itâs about heart; itâs about will; itâs about ultimate decision. Satan never asked for praise; heâs after the worship that belongs to the only true God. Matthew chapter 4 is the Temptation test; he asked Jesus to fall down before him and worship. Praise is shallow; sin can praise; iniquity can praise; uncleanness can praise; but only submission to God and a willingness to accept Godâs will and direction for your life without grumbling and protesting and complainingânow that is Worship. On your darkest day, youâre founded church because youâre a true [Applause] worshiper. Only true BL blue Christians can turn praise into worship. I accept this trial; I accept this hard place, and Iâll stay true to my mission because Iâm more than a praiser; I am a [Applause] worshiper. Man, donât get upset when people quit because this went wrong and that went wrong; theyâre just explâtheyâreâtheyâre just proving they were just a praiser; their heart was never in it. Man, when youâre a praiser, you quit over all kind of stuff; you just give up; you just throw in the towel; things donât go your way; you just walk out; you just walk away; your heart was neverâyou never had a commitment. When youâve sacrificed your son, when youâve sacrificed your life, when youâve given all youâve got too much on the altar to just walk out the back door; you got too much on the altar to just quit and give [Applause] up. I got too much on this altar to walk out; I got too much on this altar to leave; you got me on your hands because I sacrificed too much to get where I am; I canât leave; where would I go? Iâve got nothing invested anywhere [Applause] else; where would I go? My all is on the altar; everything I am is on the altar; where could I [Applause] go?
God wants more than your praise; he wants more for you just to brag on him and tell him how great he is; he wants your allegiance; he wants your committed lifestyle; he wants you to sell out; to be willing to give all; to accept what he chooses for your life; he wants you to be totally dedicated; that and only that is true [Applause] worship. You see, really, everyoneâs a worshiper; if youâre not worshiping him, where is your worship? If youâre not willing to sell out to him, what are you selling out to? A pill bottle? The bottom of a wine glass? What is it that youâreâwhat are you putting your all on the altar for? Thatâs why marriages break up and homes bust up, because somebody started somethingâtears that somebody started worshiping something that rips homes apart instead of putting them together. Thatâs it; your worship shifted. Come on; anything of this world is headed for your destruction. Yes, sir; only he holds marriages together; only he holds homes [Applause] together. And the enemy of this world is always after the worship that belongs to God; thatâs what the war is over; thatâs what busted Heaven up. Now, praise has its place; praise is one its battles; people come in low, defeated; praise digs them out of theâpraise has turned many services around, but itâs only a part of what we do. You canât buildâbuild a church on praisers, because praise demands no commitment; praise demands no life change; it demands no walking away from sin and shame. You canât build a church on praises because they wonât commit; they have no desire to change; they want to praise on Sunday and go back to their pig pen through the week; they want to dance on Sunday and go back to their back up; they want to praise on Sunday and go back to their drug den. In order for a church to be a church, it must be built on people who are true; they must be born again; they must be filled with the Holy Ghost; genuine, committed, loyal, pure, faithful, reliable, constant, accurate, certain, conforming to the fact. [Applause]
You see, D, in Daniel 2, we find an image. Yes, sir; we find an image. When the Gentile Kingdom takes over, itâs all about what you can see; itâs all about an image. The Gentile kingdoms opened with an image, and itâll close with the Antichrist in his image. Yes, sir; itâs all about what you can see. You see, Christâs kingdom is about the word; itâs what you hear. âHe that hath ears to hear, let him hear; let him hear.â Matthew 11:15. But the Antichrist kingdom is about an image; itâsâitâs visual; itâs what you can see. Right; itâs what disturbs me about keeping these screens balanced; on whatâs on that screen; what are you seeing? This Antichrist Kingdom coming has filled our life with screens everywhere we look. When we get in the car, weâre looking at screens; when we pick up our phone, weâre looking at screens. The screenâs like a gun; nothing bad about the screen, right? What are you allowing on that screen? Whatâs in your vision? Whateverâs on that screen most is what youâre worshiping; whatever takes dominance on your screens is what you worship. You see, the Antichrist is going to demand worship, too; heâs going to demand a total sellout. The Antichrist isâis going to demand worship, and people that would not worship Jesus Christ will worship the Antichrist. Itâs amazing to me, the same people that would not worship Jesus Christ will readily worship the Antichrist. Itâs all about worship; youâre going to worship; youâre going to be sold out to something, and itâs either going to be toâto destroy you and tear your world and your marriage and your home and your children apart, or itâs going to be to put it back together. Only Jesus; heâs the only thing you can worship that brings continuity into everything in your life; everything else is to destroy you. You get your focus on anything else; you get to worship in your job, your position, the bottle of aâthe bottom of a bottle thatâs prescribed by your doctor, the bottom of a wine glass; the threads of everything you are start beingâstart pulling apart. The Antichrist is going to demand a mark in your forehead or in your hand; itâs going to be about your head or your hand. Isnât it amazing thing that when Apostolics start backsliding, their biggest temptation is the hairâhair on their head and the jewelry on their hand; theyâre already submitting their hands and their head. Itâs always going to be about facial hair, head hair, and jewelry on your hands; heâs just showing you, âYou can serve me, but youâIâm going to mark your head and your hands.â Wow! Oh, I knew that wouldnât go over good. You know what preaching that gets you? Never does. The spirit of the Antichrist is already at work; itâs alreadyâthe spirit of the Antichrist is already at work. I donât want praise to hijack the church; I canât worry about other churches; Iâm not in control, but Iâlet me tell you this church: I donât want praise to hijack this church. [Applause] [Music] Church, praise has its place, but it canât be in the driverâs seat. Praise has its place, but it canât be running the show. Praise has its place, but it canât be ultimate in [Applause] position.
In 1906, Azusa Street broke out, and in 1910 a prophecy came out of Azusa Street. This is what the prophecy said: the prophecy said, âThere will come a generation of Holy Ghost-filled believers who will praise God; they will not pray [Music] to. There will be an overemphasis on power instead of righteous living; there will be an overemphasis on gifts of the Spirit rather than lordship thatâs right in peopleâs lives.â We must have worshippers; this church must be built on worshippers, not praisers. We can have all the praisers lined up and looking pretty, right? We can have all the praisers lined up and looking their best; man, they canâthey canâthey can have it together; they can be great singers; we can have them allâletâlet me ask you this: when did talent become more important than lordship? When did talent and singing ability become more important than Holy Ghost infilling? When did the ability to play an instrument become more important than a committed righteous lifestyle? I donât need adulterers on this platform; I donât need fornicators and pornographers; I donât need flucy spirits and seductive people; my God have [Applause] mercy; I need worshippers, not praisers. IâmâIâm not impressed with your talent if you canât pray; Iâm not impressed with your talent if you canât touch God; Iâm not impressed with your talent if you canât give a committed lifestyle; if you canât change. We can have all the praisers lined up; they can be going through their antics, but you let someone walk in that back door thatâs been dragged through hell backwards all week, but stayed true to their convictions; they refused to bow to the gods of this world through all of their temptation; they told the devil, âNo; no; itâs always been no, and it always will be no; itâs been no a long time, devil, and they ainât about to change.â You let him walk in; thatâs refused to sell out; he refused to click on that temptingâtempting image; when he starts praising, all of a sudden his praise becomes worship; God stands up. Thatâs one of his [Music] [Applause] Does your praise just stop at praise, âcause you donât have a lifestyle to back it up? Or when you praise, does it become worship because itâs connected to commitment; itâs connected to a lifestyle; itâs connected to a prayer [Applause] room? Oh, I got about 30%, but thatâs all right; thatâs all right. What kind of church could we have if everyone was a true worshiper? What kind of church could we have if everyone was in the prayer room? What kind of church could we have if everyone was sold out? I want to say no to temptation all day long, every day, every week. Jobâs testimony was that he was perfect and upright; thatâs what made him a worshiper. True worshippers are true to conviction; theyâre willing to live right every day; theyâre telling the devil, âNo.â You see, thatâs what the war is about, and thatâs why the enemy donât want you to give up your stuff; thatâs what it comes down to. God saves people, turns their life around, went to the cross for them, but they wonât give up their stuff; they want to sit on the pew and act like theyâre smarter than the preacher; they know they can keep their stuff and the preacherâs trying to make me get rid of it. Bible scholars, you canât read the Bible analytically; you can only read the Bible full of the Holy Ghost. Itâs going overâthis is going over just about like I thought it would. Well, Iâm drawing the line in the sand today. Come on; whoâs on the Lordâs side? Come on and be counted. For if youâre afraid to go to battle, go home; if youâre afraid to do war, go home. Whoâs on the Lord [Applause] [Music] side? Itâs coming down to worship anyway; you got to decide who youâre going to worship. [Applause] If you wonât give it up to worship Jesus Christ, youâre no longerâthen youâreâand if you wonât give up your stuff to worship Jesus Christ and youâre no longer worshiping the godâgods of this world; thatâs what itâs coming down to. As long as you hold on to your stuff and unwilling to sacrifice it, you can only praise in this Tabernacle because your stuff is still bowing down before the God of this world. The gods of this world do not mind you coming here on Sunday and praising as long as you donât sell out and start worshiping. They want you to praise a little and run back to your pig pen; youâll have a false sense of security; youâll have a false sense that youâre saved; youâll have a false sense that God accepts your praise and everythingâs all right. Sorry, my mic fell off; first I thought it was my pants. Come on; glad it was my mic that gave way and not my buttons. You see, there wasâthere was only one will in heaven; oneâthatâs itâand that was Godâs will; Jehovahâs will; thatâs why thereâs only one God; thereâs only one will; thereâitâs only heaven when thereâs one will. In Ezekiel 28, five times Lucifer says, âI will,â and once there were two wills in heaven; heaven ceased to be heaven; now itâs a war room; a war room between two wills. But you know what God did? He let Satan run his course because all the Angels had to make their decision, sir, on who they were going to line with; whoâs going to be your God? Who are you going to worship? You going to worship me, the one true Living God, or you going to worship that impostor, the God of this [Applause] world? And thatâs whatâs happening now. I donâtâI donât mean to be offensive, but Iâm just telling you itâs the point; I got to say something. All these churches where all these uncommitted people are up shouting and doing their little dance and going right back to their fornication, going right back to their pornography, going right back to their adultery, shacking up, busting up, refusing to hear the word of God. [Applause] A church thatâs been soâgoâthatâs gotten so carnal it can only be jigged up by shout beat. Whereâs your heart? Where are your desires? The gods of this world or [Applause] Jehovah? And Godâs just standing back; heâs just letting evil run its course; heâs letting everybody choose what side theyâre on. Praise is just a feeling, while worship is a lifestyle. I have to feel good to praise, but my greatest worship is when Iâm rejected and Iâm hurting and Iâm bruised and Iâm tempted and Iâve been tried, but I come on anyway. And when I walk in and lift my hands, my praise becomes worship. I am a [Applause] worshiper. Hallelujah! You know, if youâre old-time Pentecostal, you remember that praise used to be something that broke out every once in a [Music] while, sir. You know, you may go three services; everybody just worshipsâpraiseâhave you knowâhave church go through the motions; hear a good message; come around the altars; yeah, about every three services, all of a sudden something Supernatural would happen in church. Say it; say it. But when it did, it wasnât all this pretty Pentecostal; thatâs right, brother. When it broke out, the shout wasnât pretty, âcause as long as youâre worried about what you look like, youâre just a praiser; as long as youâre worried about what the camera sees, youâre just a praiser. True worshippers, theyâre not interested about what you think, what anybody else thinks; theyâre only worshippedâworried about [Applause] God, because worship involves sacrifice; you sacrifice; âI must decrease,â he listens. As long as your willâs involved, you canât be [Applause] saved; you canât be saved. Somebody said, âWell, how do I know Iâm going to make it?â Howâand I used to wonderâwellâwell, talking in tongues donât do it, because Iâve seen people talk in tongues go right out and fornicate. You see, after theâafter the initial sign of talking in tongues, you still ought to talk in tongues, but it oughtnât be that rehearsed thing that you remember; it ought to be a new tongue youâre getting every once in a while, yeah. But still, tongues is no longer the sign you got the Holy Ghost; gifts of the Spirit: forgiveness, gentleness, meekness, longsufferingâthatâs what proves you got the Holy Ghost. But in preparing for this message, I found out what the deal is: are you sold out to your will or his will? Some of yâall want to preach so bad you donât care what God thinks; you just want a pulpit, whether itâs Godâs will or not. When youâre saved, itâs going to be when your will is totally submitted to Godâs will. God, what thy will be done; whatever you want for me; I might not like it. You think Abraham liked taking Isaac to the mountain? You think Isaac liked being tied to aâto an altar, sir? You see, thatâs what David did that got Israel off course; he started a tabernacle of praise where 24 hours a day they were praising; there were choirs; there were horns; there was music; there was all that, but guess what? They forgot to sacriâthey quit sacrificing. Itâs not that praise was wrong; itâs that it must be balanced by sacrifice. And by the timeâcome onâby the time Solomon took over, they were only sacrificing to false gods; was no sacrifice to the true God. Why is it that weâre so willing to sacrifice to the gods of this world, but refuâwe wonât sacrifice a beard, a ring; weâll go to hell; donât want to sacrifice anything to the true God. And the Muslims are laying down on their face before him. Why are we willing to sacrifice to theâwhy is the flesh willing to sacrifice to the gods of this [Music] world? Weâll drive kids all over the world to play soccer and football; wonât drive them across town to Bible quiz. Why are we willing to sacrifice to everything but the truth? You donât think thereâs a spirit behind that? You donât think thereâs a demon behind [Applause] that? Come on, preaching. And so, it used to be that praise broke out; praise broke out, but when it did, it was reckless, abandoned; there was nothing pretty about it; it was rolling in the floor; it was shout, and it wasâit wasâman, when they got through, their suit was aâwas askew; their hair was down; there were bobby pins all over theâwhenâs the last time thereâs been bobby pins in this carpet? We got all thisâweâre jumping and dancing; jumping and dancing; we become the dancing church where everything looks good for the production; itâs a pretty Pentecostal that has no sacrifice. If weâre not careful, weâll dance and not change; weâll jump and not [Applause] change. It used to be that when we got through on a Sunday night, we couldnât go to the restaurant; we had to go home, put our hair up; we had to go home and change suits; everythingâworshipâworship sacrificed everything; we look likeâeverything we were. Yeah, yeah. And now we dance and never break a sweat; we jump and never break a sweat; nobodyâs hairdo is ever in danger. Onâlet me tell you something: drunks can brag on God and do a better job than you can; they can talk and sing about the goodness of Jesus Christ and still fornicate and be in adultery and be on drugs and full of sin. What we need is not cheap praise to hijack our church. I want to be authentic; I want to be holy; I want to be separated; I want to be living right; I want my praise to be true worship. Lift your hands; lift your hands; and more; come on; somebody; musicians; come; I need some singers; I need some musicians; come on; come on; somebody; come on; somebody; come on; [Music] [Applause] somebody; come on; letâs stand all over this congregation; come on; letâs stand all over this congregation. My God have mercy; I donât need a carnal church that has to be jumped up byâby shout beat; I need worshippers; I need worshippers; I need worshippers; people that know how to tell temptation no; people that know how to tell unrighteousness no. My God; somebody; somebody help me, right? [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Now, come on; I want to know what it means to be true; I want to know what it means to be separated; to be a true worshiper. Come on; reach out; reach out; reach [Music] out; reach out; somebody; come on; reach out; somebody; conviction; get a hold of this congregation; conviction; stir this house; conviction; stir this place; conviction; stir this [Music] place. Yeah; Iâm drawing the line in the [Music] sand. If you want to go to a church where you can dance and not change, theyâre everywhere; if you want to go to a church where you can worship, talk in tongues, andâand live in sin, there [Music] everywhere. But if you want to be real and you want to be authentic and you want to be saved, it takes one will; there can be no will of flesh; there can be no carnality; thereâs got to be a sellout to the will of Jesus Christ. Iâm calling this altarâcalled anybody who wants to be authentic; Iâm opening this altar to anybody wants to be real; Iâm opening this altar to people that say, âMy God, I want to be real; I want to be true.â Come on; come on; intercession ought to be filling this house right now; total submission ought to be moving through this congregation right now. My God; my God; my God; my God; yes; yes; yes; yes; yes; come on; somebody; come on; somebody. I preached to everybody in this building; I preached to every man, every woman, every boy, every [Music] girl. My God, be the center; God; itâs all about you; oh, itâs all aboutânot my will; from my heart to the heavens; Jesus, be the all; comeâthe will of Lucifer broke up Heaven; the will of Lucifer broke up heaven, and you canât take your will to Heaven; if your willâs still alive, you wonât go when the catching away takes place; you got to be submitted to his will; itâs his will about you; from my heart to the heavens; Jesus, be the center; itâs all about you; yes; itâs all about you, Lord; from my heart to the heavens; Jesus, be the center; itâs all about you; yes; itâs all about you. Nothing else matters; oh, Lord; nothing in this world; nothing else will do; Jesus, are the center; everything roles around [Music] Jesus; nothing else; nothing in this world; with Jesus, yourâeverything rolls around you; Jesus.
Come on; letâs get it right today; come on; letâs get it right today; come on; letâs get it right today.
