I need to tell you something that most doctors will never say. That if you're waking up in the morning and drinking one glass of plain water, thinking that is going to rehydrate your body, well, that plain water, instead of rehydration, might be dehydrating and actually causing harm to your body by increasing inflammation in your system.

Yes, it might be shocking for you, and it was shocking for me when I looked at research studies and they suggested that plain water is not enough to rehydrate your body at cellular level. You need specific electrolytes, specific minerals, so that the water that you drink get absorbed at the cellular level and hydrates your body.

So, in the next 10 minutes, I'm going to share with you this exact one teaspoon electrolyte protocol that my patients use on the daily basis in the morning that not only improves hydration of their body, but also calms down inflammation, as well as supports their health in a positive way. Hi, I'm Dr. Anshul Gupta, a former Cleveland Clinic functional medicine physician from US. I help people improve their chronic diseases by making personalized functional medicine plans.

Now, here's a major problem that I realized my patients were going through, that they were all drinking plain water, at least eight to 10 glasses in a day, but still their lab markers were showing they were dehydrated. Still their inflammation markers were high. And more importantly, it was showing that they were dehydrated at the cellular level. So, I started looking for answers and I found research studies which clearly stated that plain water was not enough in hydrating your body at the cellular level. And you need specific minerals that help in movement of this water that you drink from your gut all the way inside the cells.

Now, most people think that as soon as they start drinking eight to 10 glasses in a day, their urine color changes from dark yellow to pale yellow. Plus, they pass a lot of urine, and they think that their body has absorbed a lot of water, and the extra water is going through them. Well, you are wrong. This plain water is not getting absorbed in your blood at all. This is [snorts] going through your gut, and your kidneys are actually overworking to get rid of this extra water from your body.

This is where electrolytes are important because electrolytes act as gatekeepers. These gatekeepers controls whether the water that you drink enter your cells or go straight to your kidneys outside your body. So, that's the reason everybody's talking about electrolytes and minerals, adding them to your water, and consuming them on the daily basis, so you can keep your body hydrated.

Well, here's the catch. Not all electrolyte waters or minerals work the same in hydrating your body. And you need specific ones to hydrate your body completely. So, now let me share with you the exact ingredients of this electrolyte drink, and then how to exactly make it and consume it, so you can hydrate your body and reduce inflammation.

The first ingredient of this drink is coconut powder, or if you can get fresh coconut water. Coconut is one of the foods with the highest source of natural potassium. And potassium is one of those most important minerals which help in pulling the water inside your cells. And lot of us are not consuming enough potassium on the regular basis, and that's the reason we do not get hydrated at the cellular level. So, coconut water or powder is giving you the potassium, which is very important over here.

The second ingredient over here is mineral-rich sea salt. Specifically, use Celtic sea salt if that is available to you. If that is not available, your second best option is pink Himalayan salt, but the mineral content of Celtic sea salt is much higher than any salt available out there. Now, why this specific salt? Because it is high in sodium. Now, before you get worried about that everybody's talking about low sodium diet, we need some sodium on the regular basis. Again, this low amount of sodium is very important to pull water in your cells, and more importantly, it helps your cell to hold that water inside. And Celtic sea salt has more than 60 trace minerals. So, that's the reason it not only gives you sodium, but other trace minerals, which are again very important to keep the electrolyte balance good in your cells so that you keep your body hydrated and also helps in reducing inflammation in your system. The difference between the Celtic sea salt and the regular sea salt or your store-bought sea salt is that your store-bought sea salt has been completely stripped off of all the good minerals. So, that's the reason you use Celtic sea salt, if not Himalayan sea salt.

The third ingredient over here is lemon juice or lime juice. They are high in vitamin C, high in antioxidant, and also have some citrates. All of these are very important to reduce inflammation at cellular level so that your cellular machinery can work better, and again will help your cells to get hydrated.

The last ingredient, which is actually an optional ingredient, is magnesium glycinate powder. Now, as an option, you can always use magnesium citrate powder, also. Magnesium works with other minerals, specifically sodium and potassium, and help your cellular machinery to work better. And also reduces inflammation in your system. So, that's the reason adding magnesium is going to be helpful, but is not a requirement of this particular recipe.

Okay, now let me share with you how to exactly prepare this recipe. So, for this, you need 16 to 20 oz of filtered plain water, and then you add 1 tsp of coconut powder. Or as I said, if you have fresh coconut water, then you can add 2 tbsp of fresh coconut water into it. Then you add 1/4 tsp of Celtic sea salt or pink Himalayan salt. Then you squeeze in one full lemon or lime into it. Or if you already have lemon juice, then 1 tbsp of lemon juice is what you can add over here. And then for that optional ingredient, the magnesium powder, you can add just a pinch of magnesium powder to this drink to make it more beneficial for you.

Now, what is the best time of drinking it? The best time to drink it is in the morning. Nighttime when you are sleeping, your body gets dehydrated, which most people do not realize. Because that dehydration is at the cellular level. So, you want your body to get rehydrated as soon as you wake up in the morning. So, early in the morning if you are going to drink it, that is going to instantly hydrate your body as well as in your cells.

The second time you can consume it is late afternoon. Because that is another time that your body gets dehydrated, and you're also going to feel it by feeling low energy. And having this electrolyte drink in the afternoon is instantly going to boost your energy because it rehydrates your body at the cellular level.

The good part about this electrolyte drink that I shared with you, it doesn't have any artificial chemicals. It doesn't have high amount of sugar, which over-the-counter electrolyte drinks often have. Plus, it has natural sodium, potassium, and other minerals that completely hydrates your body and helps your body in reducing inflammation also.

This electrolyte drink should be a part of your regular routine. So, you constantly get the right electrolytes, right minerals inside your body. When you start using it, within 7 to 10 days, you're going to notice that inflammation levels are decreasing in your system. You will feel that afternoon slump in your energy is going away. And plus, your energy levels are improving in general basis.

So, give this electrolyte drink a try, which is completely natural, and let me know how you like it.
