So guys, how do you turn off those annoying things that might make you startled in the morning when you first wake up? Well, you can turn them off. Most importantly, so I've actually got 15 MBUX tips and tricks I want to share with you guys today. So let's have a look at number [Music] one.
So for tip number one today, and guys, is turning off the welcome greeting and the kind of welcome sounds. You can actually turn these off. So all you do is just load up the home screen on the center screen, go all the way across to settings, just in here. Then go to system, then look for Proactivity in here. Just turn off the "Activate your profile." Now, the "Activate your profile" one is basically the one where it says, "Welcome back, Nick," or "Welcome back, Nicole." The other one is the kind of sound it makes when you get in. That sounds a bit like this. Yep, that sound. You can turn it off as well. Just scroll down that same page, go to audio, then look at "Greeting tone." Just make sure that is off, and then you'll start the car [Music] silently.
Now, the next one is the next track button. Now, a few of us know that Mercedes actually don't have a physical next track button on, like, the steering wheel. Well, they sort of do. You can actually configure this screen to show, like, the media page. So you can actually put the media over here and then swipe left and right. Not an actual physical next track button, but there is a hidden thing on MBUX NTG 7 that you might not know. Now, say you've got the radio on here, for example, and you want to change the radio station. Nice and easy, just swipe left and right. But you can also do this on the navi page as well. So here you can literally just press, press the next track, previous track buttons, or next radio station, previous radio station. But what about if you're on a different screen? Well, there's actually a hidden menu that not many people know about. Say you're on the home screen. All you do is swipe up from the very bottom of the screen, like this. Swipe up, and there it is. You can literally change it here. And yes, this does apply to when you're using CarPlay, Apple Music, and Spotify, and all third-party apps.
Now, not very least one is quick access to settings. Now, a few of you have mentioned before you want to turn off the active lane keeping assist. There's a very quick way you can do that on MBUX NTG 7. So have a look at the very top here. That's like a picture of a car. All you do is tap on that one, then you actually gain access to a few extra things. And one of them is that active lane keeping assist on the bottom left.
Now, for tip number four, did you know there are different themes on your your instrument cluster? You don't have to stick to these classic dials. There's actually quite a few you can choose from. So all you do is press the home button and swipe left and right. So, yeah, just literally press the home button and then swipe left and right, and you've got all these kind of different themes here. So you can literally swipe left and right here to choose, like, things like "Understated." There's like a "Sport" mode, not to be confused with the actual sport mode for the engine, these are just sporty dials. Then there's ones like "Navigation" as well, which give you full-screen maps, which is pretty cool. You can even press the OK button and then even change things like satellite view, which is prettyy cool to have on your instrument cluster. And then there's a few assistance menus as well, just in case your car has, like, a driving assistance package. And then also service menus as well. So quite a few things you can see, including tire pressures. Now, there is actually a hidden button on these buttons here, which I'll share in a minute, but let's have a look at a few more.
Now, guys, I did promise that I would share how to turn that PIN off. So, yes, every time you get in the car, you have to type your PIN in. It can get a bit annoying. Now, there are a few cases where you might want to do that. Say, I don't know, you're a company owner or director and you're sharing your car with your employees. Perfect use case. But if you're just using it for yourself or friends or family, probably don't need the PIN on. So all you do is just tap on the profile selector on the top, go to settings, then look for a thing that says "Protect content," just like this. Then you want to turn off "Access protection." Now, some of the cars will also have Face ID and fingerprint recognition and voice recognition, just like this one here. But my car's not that fancy. So just going to turn off the PIN access protection. Turn it off. Now, depending on, not if you're logged in, it may ask you for your PIN. So just quickly type it in, and then it will stay off for that entire time. Also, if you've forgotten your PIN, just go to the Mercedes me app, like this. Tap menu, then go on to your profile here, then you can reset your PIN, and Mercedes will email you a brand new four-digit PIN.

All right, guys. So for tip number six, did you know you can actually move the icons around on the screen? So, yeah, literally finger on the screen, and then you can move them around literally whichever way you want. To make use of your phone a lot and want your phone over on the other side, you can literally customize it however you like. When you're done, just press the home button, and it will save it exactly where you left it. I bet you didn't know that [Music] one.
Now, this next one is MBUX direct commands, which are pretty cool, actually. So a few of you may have heard and seen me cover before the "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant in the car. This is the one where you literally say, "Hey Mercedes, how may I help you?" and then you can give her commands like that. There are some things called direct commands. So you can actually skip out the "Hey Mercedes" bit. I won't actually say it again, otherwise it will trigger it. So I don't know, say you're listening to the radio, for example. Now, I've got it on at the moment but muted. All you have to say is "Next station." I didn't change the station. What about going back? "Previous station." Pretty cool. It'll also do some other things. So to see what the others do, just head to settings. So just go all the way across, swipe across a couple of times, go to settings, then look for the system, voice assistant, and "Hey Mercedes" menu. Tap on settings, then you'll see it says "Direct commands." Just tap on the "i," and these are the ones which will work in your car. So all you do is swipe down, and these are all the ones here that you can give it specific commands for. "Cancel route guidance" is quite a useful one. It's half expecting it to do it then, but, um, yes, they are quite useful. They work in conjunction with the "Hey Mercedes" bit, but you just don't say the "Hey Mercedes" bit. You just say the phrase as it is on them.
Now, for tip number eight, actually helps me out personally. Now, due to the nature of my job, I do film quite a bit in cars. Of course, I've got, uh, my camera here recording this one here, and of course, my main camera here. And this one here is actually my phone capturing this screen. And it actually doesn't work particularly well when you use wireless CarPlay if it connects wirelessly. So I actually prefer to connect it wired. And that way, it just keeps the interface the same. Like, I can control what's on the screen. Not only that, if someone texts me as well, it can interfere with it and just mess it all up. So it's just easier for me to have it wired. But here's the tip. I actually found that wired Apple CarPlay works not only in this USB-C port just in here, but it also works in here as well. The previous version of this MBUX NTG 6, you had to plug it in. This one, MBUX NTG 7, will also work in this one as well, apart from that one that's my dash cam up here. But, um, that's kind of the neatest setup I've managed to do without, um, going into fuse boxes and things like that, which I will cover and check out what can and can't be done later in the year, but that's for another video. Right, next [Music] tip.
Now, the next one, guys, actually relates to climate control. So a few of you may have noticed, of course, on Mercedes, uh, climate controls, you basically adjust the temperature here up and down, and you'll see on the bottom of the screen there, it will move up and down. Now, notice here, if you want to make it really, really cold, you have to keep pressing this button loads because it goes up in increments. But what about if you wanted to just get it back to a normal, regular setting? Well, that involves a hidden button on the Auto button. So all you do is just hold the Auto button for about four to five seconds, and then everything will go back to 22 degrees and Auto, just like that. Kind of just saves you having to keep clicking the button and wear your finger out. Right, on to next tip and trick. [Music]
Now, honestly, I don't think many people need to use this tip and trick just because, well, most FM and DAB radio stations in cars these days are pretty good. But what about if you want to tune a manual frequency? Now, I had to do this recently because I actually went to what was a drive-in movie, which for us Brits is actually quite an experience. So I actually had to tune the radio frequency to the one that was being broadcast, and I actually struggled to find it on the car until I delved into some of the settings. So I wanted to share with you guys how you can tune a manual frequency. So to do this on MBUX NTG 7, all you do is tap on the search button. But this is where I went wrong. I was trying to type in the frequency here. I think, if I remember, it was 87.7, but then it just didn't seem to find anything. So this is what you have to do. Clear what you've got on the screen, but then on the top left, tap on the menu, and then go to "All sources." Now, you'll see it says "Frequency" just on the top here, is where you can type in any frequency for FM and tune it [Music] manually.
Now, on another tip and trick video, I have actually covered this before where on Mercedes cars, if you hold the back button on the steering wheel, yes, that's this one here, it'll actually go back to the default views in case someone's changed it or messed it all up. But it actually does two things if you press it again. So here, for example, if I change this to something else, I don't know, let's put it on the sport view, like this. If I press the back button, it'll actually go back to that. But if you press it again, it'll go back to that same view. So quite useful. Maybe, I don't know, if you had it on the satnav like this here, and you wanted to just go back to your normal dials, you can just press the back button and toggle between the two, just like this. Just kind of saves you having to swipe left and right and press the home button and then look down while you're driving. From muscle memory, you can just press that back button and toggle between the two.
Now, last few, guys, make sure you use the favorites menu on the MBUX multimedia system. For reference, it's literally on the bottom of the steering wheel on the little star, but it's also the star on the kind of top of the screen here as well. Just tap it, and it will go into its own custom menu that you can pretty much do anything you like with. So you can delete all the things in there, have all your satnav favorites, home, work, friends, family, all your contacts. I think you can even put radio stations in there. So there's all sorts of things you can do with that favorites menu, just to make things accessible, just a little bit easier.
Now, a few of you may have heard of a thing called augmented reality, which is a pretty cool camera system that's up here and kind of shows you images on the screen, just like this. Pretty cool blue arrows, uh, appearing on the center half telling you where to go. You will never miss a turn. Mercedes had it. He is. But there is a hidden thing if you have that system. So not all cars have this, I should add. But if you do have augmented reality, if you go into settings, you can actually enable it to come on automatically when the system sees a traffic light. So, you know, when you're stuck at traffic lights like this, and you're kind of peering to see if you can actually see the traffic lights because they're so far out of the way. We let the multimedia system just show you on the screen, and that way you can just sit there, relax, see the traffic light on the screen, green for go, away you go. So guys, this one's really easy. On MBUX NTG 7, just go across to settings on the far right-hand side, then go into assistance, and then go to the other menu called "Assistance." And in here, you'll be looking for the thing that says "Traffic light view." Just turn that on, and then have a look at the settings icon if you want to change any settings. You can have it come up automatically when it detects a traffic light as you slow down, or pop up with a little pop-up banner at the top.
Now, loads of you have asked me on YouTube how I've got my profile picture on the car, and it's actually really easy. All you need is the Mercedes me app. Just tap on the menu button, tap on your name, and change it in here. As long as you have MBUX NTG 7, it'll automatically sync to the car the next time you get in.
Now, the last one today, guys, actually involves a thing called the entertainment package that Mercedes actually bring out, kind of recently. And this is actually something that I actually could make an entire video on. I'll be happy to. So let me know in the comments if you wanted me to do this. But basically, on the multimedia system, you'll normally have music playing from a USB or CD, if it's a little bit older, or radio or something like that. But this is quite cool. You can actually have Apple Music or Spotify, and even some other music providers, actually playing on the multimedia system without your phone, so using the car's kind of data for this. Now, if I remember when I had to set this up, I'm pretty sure I had to link it using Mercedes me. But, um, as I said, guys, if you want me to make a tutorial on how to set this up, um, I'll happily do it. Just let me know in the comments. But yes, you literally have Apple Music on here because I have an Apple Music subscription. You can literally just search all the artists on here without actually using your phone. Quite useful if you have a low data plan or something like that. You've got the entire music library of Apple just on your car without your phone. Pretty cool.
