When you conquer your mind with discipline. Have you ever thought about what this discipline you speak of is? The alarm rings in the morning. You rub your eyes and drag yourself. You have to bathe, you have to rush. You have to reach work. People have told you this is discipline. But I will tell you a secret. This is not discipline. This is slavery. This is a robot's life, and you are not a robot. You are consciousness. True discipline is effortless. It comes from understanding. Not from force. When the flower of understanding blooms within, discipline flows automatically. It doesn't push you. It pulls you. But what do most of you do? You try to defeat the mind. You try to catch the mind, suppress it, beat it, saying, "Be quiet, I will show you that I can win." And then the same struggle, the same war, the same defeat. Why? Because the one who wants to win is also the mind. You are not fighting an external enemy. You are fighting yourself. And when someone fights themselves, they always end up broken. Victorious, yet defeated. Understand, the mind is not to be defeated. The mind is to be observed. Observation is discipline. Awareness is discipline. Discipline is not what tires you. Discipline is what liberates you. Why do attempts to conquer the mind fail? Because the mind doesn't understand the language of victory. You say, "From today, I will wake up, I will run, I will bring change." And the mind says, "Okay, let's see for how many days?" You say, "Now I will show you that I can defeat laziness." And the mind smiles. "Ah, the laziness you want to defeat, that is also me." The effort to conquer the mind is a trap of the mind itself. And you get caught in that trap. Do not try to defeat the mind. Start observing the mind. Just observe. Inspect. As if you are watching a movie. The mind will sometimes be angry. Sometimes sad. Sometimes drowned in an ocean of desires. Sometimes sweating with worry about the future. You just watch. Without judgment, without any rules. This art of watching is discipline. You think discipline is difficult, difficult. Because you are carrying the wrong discipline. Rules imposed by others, ideals created by others, structures created by society. When you call all that discipline, life starts feeling heavy. But if discipline arises from within, it becomes a dance. Discipline plus joy is a state of awareness. Some people say discipline means killing weakness. Crushing desires. Restraining the day. No, that is not discipline, that is violence. True discipline leaves life open. It is a discipline in which there is joy. When you are awake, when you see clearly, you naturally do what is right. No one forces you. You don't have to be pushed. You don't have to fight. In that very moment, you become a new person. One who doesn't operate by discipline, in whom discipline is born itself. Awareness is the ultimate discipline. Understand, an aware person doesn't follow any discipline. Awareness itself becomes their discipline. Just like you breathe. Do you think about it? No, it is effortless. Similarly, a person who walks with awareness is naturally disciplined. You must have noticed, when you get engrossed in some work, you don't remember any rules. You just flow. Time disappears, fatigue disappears, the mind becomes calm. That state is awareness, and the discipline that descends from awareness doesn't feel like a burden. It becomes the fragrance of your life. How to make the mind a friend? If you try to defeat the mind, it will become an enemy. If you look at the mind with love, understand its games, smile at its tricks, it will become your friend. Because the mind is very innocent. It is a child. It gets scared, it wanders, it searches. You scold it. You say, "Be quiet." And it starts making more noise. Look at it with love. Gradually, its grip loosens, and one day it sits with you, quiet on its own. The silence within you teaches the mind. Forced discipline does not teach. Silence teaches. Awareness teaches. Where are the roots of discipline? The roots of discipline cannot be in fear. The roots of discipline cannot be in orders. The roots of discipline cannot be in the rules of a guru or a book. The roots of discipline are in only one place. Your understanding, your experience, your vision. When you understand that laziness causes you suffering, you don't change by watching motivation videos. You change from within. When you see that anger is burning you, you don't give up anger through rules. You let it go because you have now seen it. This understanding is discipline. Facing the truth becomes discipline. Understand, life is very simple. All difficulties are a gift of your mind. You are unhappy because you do what you know you shouldn't do. You are stressed because you don't do what you know you should do. This conflict, this is your suffering, and you are pulled in these two directions. If you face the truth that, "Yes, this habit is harming me," "Yes, this path is leading me nowhere," "Yes, this mind is controlling my life," then at that very moment, discipline is born. Seeing the truth is discipline. Because as soon as you see the truth, you cannot run away from it. And as soon as you stand with the truth, the mind starts walking with you. Do you know the secret of discipline? What is discipline after all? It is not what you do. Discipline is why you do it. If your reason is fear, you will remain bound. If your reason is comparison, you will remain unhappy. But if your reason is awareness, you will become free. And when you become free, discipline is no longer a lock to be opened with a key. You yourself become discipline. Then you do what is necessary, not because someone said so, but because you have seen it. Seeing is the key. Discipline is not a rule book. It is your own dance. Let me tell you something. If discipline feels heavy to you, tires you, oppresses you, then it is not discipline. True discipline plays like music within you. It flows like water. It rises like breath. Where there is discipline, there is no clash. There is no conflict. There is no victory or defeat. There is only flow. And that flow comes only when you stop trying to catch the mind. The first step of discipline, the beginning of discipline, is not by changing the mind. The beginning of discipline is by observing the mind. When you observe incoming and outgoing thoughts without touching, without catching, just observing, a miracle happens. The mind loses its control, and you start feeling a strange peace. At that very moment, discipline is born. Do you want to conquer the mind with discipline? But have you ever paused to ask who this mind is that you are fighting, whose reins you are trying to hold? Has it ever said it is your enemy? The mind only knows how to flow. It is like the wind, sometimes here, sometimes there. If you fight the wind, you will get tired. If you observe it, you will find the hidden meaning in its music. You have misunderstood the mind greatly. You have seen it as a mischievous child that needs the stick of discipline. But the mind is not a child. The mind is a river, and a river cannot be stopped. It is made to flow. When you try to stop the mind, the mind runs even faster. You say, "Today I will meditate. Today I will be calm." And the mind says, "Okay. Let me show you how much noise I can make." The more you suppress it, the more the mind will bounce. Just like a spring, the more you press it, the more forcefully it springs back. Let me tell you, the discipline you are talking about is not about putting a leash on the mind. Discipline is the art of walking with the mind. The art of understanding the mind. The art of making the mind a friend. Why are you running away from your mind? Why are you afraid of the mind? Why do you want to kill the mind? Because you have never sat with the mind and talked. You have never listened to it. You have never asked it what it wants. You have only given it orders. "Be quiet," "Be calm." "Don't think this," "Don't think that." And the poor mind is compelled to break your every command. Because you have not understood it. The attempt to conquer the mind fails because the one who wins is also the mind. One part of the mind is fighting another part. The mind is ordering the mind. The mind is stopping the mind. And the mind is defeating the mind. You are not fighting this war. The mind is fighting itself. And you think you are fighting. When someone fights themselves, who wins? Who loses? You are on both sides. When you fight the mind, no matter the outcome, you are the one who gets broken. I am teaching you the art of ending this struggle. The truth is, there is no need to defeat the mind. The mind is to be observed. The mind is to be heard. The mind is to be felt. When you observe the mind, a distance is created. You are here, the mind is there. And this distance is discipline. This distance liberates you. You become the master of the mind. The mind is no longer your master. But distance is created when you do not judge the mind. The moment you say, "This thought is bad. This is good." At that very moment, you get entangled in the mind. Then you are no longer an observer. You have become a player. And the one who enters the field as a player gets bound by the game. You have to watch the game. Not become the player. Just watch. Just be a witness. The mind's coming, going, rising, sitting, changing, observe it all as if clouds are passing. You are the sky. The mind is the cloud. Clouds come and go. The sky never changes. The sky within you is true discipline. The mind's movements do not create discipline. Your ability to observe the mind creates discipline. You think discipline is a habit. It is not a habit, it is awareness. Habits are dead. Awareness is alive. Habits are mechanical. Awareness is vibrant. Habits create robots. Awareness opens the door to Buddhahood. Many of you think that discipline means waking up early, bathing with cold water, exercising, meditating, reaching work on time. All this is fine. But it is the result of discipline, not discipline itself. Discipline is what comes before all this. It is your inner vision. Your feeling of what you need to do and why you need to do it. When there is clarity within, discipline naturally manifests outside. Sometimes you wake up early without any alarm, and how light that waking feels. And sometimes the alarm rings 10 times, and waking up becomes difficult. Why? Because in one there was awareness, in the other, compulsion. Discipline born of compulsion is a burden. Discipline born of awareness is freedom. Discipline is difficult as long as it comes from outside. But when it comes from within, there is joy in it. That is why I give you a formula. Where there is joy, there is discipline. Where there is no joy, there is force. If you are doing something and feeling joy in it, then know that you are in the right discipline. If you feel pain, fatigue, burden in it, then know that you are carrying someone else's discipline. You are following others' rules, not your own. You have to make your mind a friend. By making it an enemy, you will not reach anywhere. Making the mind an enemy means dividing your existence into two parts. One part will rule over the other, and both will be wounded. What is making the mind a friend? It is accepting it. It is embracing its every form. When it is shallow, when it is calm, when it is restless, you just accept it. Just as you look at a child's every mischief with a smile. When the mind sees that you are looking at it with love, it starts to calm down. Its restlessness begins to fall. Its struggles start to melt. When you say to your mind, "Okay, you are good just as you are. I have no complaints against you. I will walk with you. I will not fight you." At that very moment, the mind sits with you. Have you ever noticed, when you chase something, it runs away. And when you stop, become calm, that very thing comes to you on its own. The nature of the mind is also like that. To conquer the mind, you don't have to run. You have to stop. You have to become calm. You have to observe. And this observation is awareness. Awareness is the final flower of discipline. When awareness blooms, discipline spreads like fragrance. Now you understand that discipline is not a punishment. It is the lightest, most beautiful quality of life. Discipline is that in which life flows in its highest rhythm. In which there is no rigidity, no pressure. In which there is only effortlessness. If you are aware, you will do what is right for you. What is right automatically becomes discipline. It needs no rules. Do not try to change the mind. Try to understand the mind. Understanding brings change. Force does not. Understanding brings discipline. Orders do not. Understanding brings freedom. Slavery does not. If you start observing your mind, you will realize how pure the mind is. The dirt in the mind is not yours, it is society's. It is of traditions. It is the voices of others. The mind itself is completely innocent. When you look at it more closely, you will find that the mind is not your enemy. The mind is your mirror. Your state, your understanding, your awareness, all are clearly visible in the mind. And fighting with a mirror is foolishness. You don't clean the mirror by seeing dirt in it. You wash your face. The commotion seen in the mind is not the mind's commotion. It is the commotion of the imbalance within you. And discipline is the name of bringing that balance back. But this balance does not come from external rules. It comes from inner peace. When there is peace within, the mind becomes effortless. When the mind is effortless, discipline manifests. You have seen so far that discipline is not a fight, not a war, not a rule book. Discipline is that effortlessness which is born when you start seeing your inner self clearly. But this seeing is not so simple, because you have made a habit of running since childhood. You have been running from your mind. You have been running from your emotions. You have been running from your fears. And a person who runs can never be disciplined. The first step of discipline is to stop. This stopping is not external. It is internal. You may be running outside, rushing, working, but stop internally for just a moment. At that very moment, discipline is born. You must understand that the nature of the mind is motion. If the mind stops, it will die. That is why the mind keeps running. It runs into the past. It runs into the future. It is afraid of the present because there is no motion in the present. There is peace in the present, and the mind is afraid of peace. You want peace, and the mind runs from peace. This is the conflict. When you and the mind move in two opposite directions, life becomes fatigue. But if you try to stop the mind, you will fail. Because the mind is like a bouncing ball. The more you press it, the more it will bounce. Its bouncing is its nature. You cannot discipline the mind by stopping it. You become disciplined by observing the mind's bouncing. Discipline does not control the mind. Discipline controls you. Discipline does not command the mind. Discipline places you above the mind. And all this happens when you learn the art of observation. Observing without catching, without stopping, without judging. Observe as if you are watching a movie. No matter how much commotion there is in the movie, the observer remains calm. Observe the mind's movie in the same way. The mind will sometimes show scenes of anger. Sometimes of fear. Sometimes of desire. Sometimes of disappointment. Sometimes of enthusiasm. You just keep watching. Where you observed, discipline descended. The problem arose when you entered the movie. You started thinking that what is happening is you, and then difficulties began. The truth is, you are not the mind. You are that silent presence behind the mind that observes. This observation is discipline. People think discipline is harshness. No, discipline is that gentleness in which you do not try to catch your mind but let it flow and understand its current. The day you understand that the mind is not an enemy, the mind is a child, your life will change. No matter how much you scold a child, it will become stubborn, but if you explain with love, it calms down on its own. The mind is also like that. If you look at it with love, it transforms into effortless discipline. People talk about killing the mind. But the mind cannot be killed. To kill the mind means to kill yourself. The mind is a window. The world is seen through that window. If you break the window, you won't see the view. There is no need to change the mind. There is a need to transcend the mind. And transcending the mind does not happen with discipline. It happens with awareness. A spark of awareness illuminates the entire dark cave of the mind. And when light comes, darkness does not go anywhere. Darkness disappears on its own. You don't drive away darkness. You just bring light. Similarly, you don't defeat the mind. You just wake up. When you wake up, the mind becomes calm. Just as the cold of the night disappears as soon as the sun rises. You cannot fight the night. You just let the sun come, and everything changes. Discipline is like the sun. Where there is discipline, the mind's disorder starts to melt. But remember, discipline does not mean rules. Discipline means awareness. If you are doing something by force, it is not discipline. It is a burden, and a burden cannot be carried for long. That is why people maintain discipline for two days and break on the third day. Why? Because discipline came from outside, not from within. The discipline that comes from within never breaks. It is your own. Your own understanding, your own experience, your own light gives birth to it. And what comes from within lasts long. Because its roots are deep. You do not need to sow the seed of discipline in the mind. You need to sow the seed of discipline in consciousness. The mind is soil, consciousness is sky. The seed of life germinates in the sky. Soil is only for the body. Others' rules cannot discipline you. Others' rules only scare you, oppress you, and you mistake that pressure for discipline. If you are doing something because of what people will say, what society will think, what gurus will say, what books say, then this is not discipline, it is slavery. And freedom from slavery comes only when you listen to the voice within you. The inner voice speaks softly. It does not shout. The mind shouts. "Do this, do that. Hurry, do it now." And consciousness whispers. "Stop. Listen. Feel." The mind wants haste. Consciousness wants patience. And discipline comes with patience. If you are aware, you automatically become disciplined. If you are not aware, no matter how many rules you make, you will break them. Why will you break them? Because what you are doing is against your nature, and going against nature is impossible. You can walk for a while, but you won't go far. The true meaning of discipline is to align your life with your nature. And there is only one way to understand your nature: awareness. Without awareness, you can never know who you are. What you need? What energy is flowing within you, and in what direction does it want to go? When you recognize your inner direction, discipline itself follows you. You don't call it. It comes on its own. People think discipline has to be caught. No. Discipline does not need to be caught. You need to observe yourself. As you observe yourself, your consciousness becomes clearer. And the clearer the consciousness, the more the fragrance of discipline spreads. Discipline is like a flower. A flower is not grown by pulling. Water the soil, give it sun, air, and the flower will bloom on its own. You don't work on the flower. You work on the soil. The flower comes on its own. Discipline is the flower. Awareness is its soil. Prepare the soil of awareness within you. Discipline will bloom on its own one morning. Now, one more thing comes in this discipline: joy. If there is no joy in discipline, then it is not discipline. Discipline is that in which you wake up with joy. You work with joy. That work does not tire you. It expands you. Fatigue from work only happens when you fight the mind. When you work in awareness, work becomes meditation. Life becomes a practice. Every moment becomes a celebration. Here, discipline is not a rigid thought. It is a dance in which you and the mind together create the rhythm. No war, only music. The music of life is heard only when the mind sits calmly with you. And the mind sits with you when you look at it with love, without any orders, without any compulsion. Discipline is not a goal. Discipline is a journey. And in this journey, you just have to do one thing: be aware. Every moment, every breath, every thought, every emotion. Whenever you wake up, you do not fall. When you wake up, you become the master of your mind. When you wake up, discipline becomes your nature. And then you do not conquer your mind. The mind itself sits at your feet. There is no need for victory. Where there is victory, there is duality. Where there is duality, there is noise. Discipline is not noise. Discipline is silence. And in this silence, the mind melts. This is true discipline. This is effortless discipline. This is the discipline of awareness.
