Being able to move well at the kitchen comes on a strength. It comes down to power, but we have to be able to express those qualities. Being able to express them in real time is different than just being able to express them in the gym, right?
So, pickleball is a reactive style sport. You have to react to the ball. You have to react to other people. So, what we're going to do is we're going to train that. We're going to do reactive style exercises. We don't start with those kind of exercises in our progressions, and it's not something I would advise, right? You don't want reactive is like high within the progression timeline. But once we, we have a foundational base of strength and we can jump and do things that are pre-planned, then we go into a more of a reaction style setting.
So, right now I want to show you a great reaction drill. Great reaction style agility drill that will help you get better at moving side to side, moving in that lateral and frontal plane. So, what we're going to do is we're going to use this kitchen line and we're going to go from sideline to center line. What we're going to do is it's kind of fun. You're going to be facing me. You're going to be on that side of the line and our goal is to be face to face. So, if one person is the lead and one person is a chaser. So, I'm going to be the lead and she's going to try and quote unquote chase me. Her goal is to have her nose line and center with mine the entire time, right? Even just like this when we're off. See, she's good. She's already learning. Her goal is to be right in front of me the entire time. I'm gonna be, I have from this line, she's still going from this baseline to center line to be able to try and juke her. I'm going to be moving all kind of ways and it's only for about 10 seconds and then we'll stop.
So, here's a court demo. Are you ready? She wants to be right in front of me. You gotta move faster. Relax. So, her goal is right to stay right in front of me. Her goal is to react off of me. I get to obviously move quick and work on that, but her goal was to push the base, react off of me, just like the sport. We're getting more and more sport specific. Our goal within these is to work for about 10 seconds. It's pretty high intense though, right? If you're going fast and it's competitive for about 10 seconds, it's a little bit tactic. 10 seconds, two to three reps of maybe two to three sets and you'll get a good stimulus out of this.
So, we're gonna try it again. She's gonna stay right in front of me. I'm gonna follow her though, this time. So, I'm going off for her. She's trying to juke me. She's gonna do everything she can and I'm gonna try and stay directly in front of her. Nose to nose. Ready? I'm on you. Oh, she got me a little bit. Relax. See, that's the goal. So, goal is to be reactive. Goals to be fast, explosive, and it's a little bit more and more like the sport.
