I'm Dr. John Gartner. And I'm Dr. Harry Seagull. And welcome to this preview of Shrinking Trump.
On this week's show, John and I really take a look at what's been going on in the past week. In particular, we spend a fair amount of time going over Trump's disastrous UN speech. So disastrous that, as usual, it doesn't seem that he even notices how completely crazy and offensive that speech was. Right, John?
Yeah. And we're also going to look at the ways in which he and, uh, Robert Kennedy Jr. are spreading medical misinformation and how it's gotten so much worse. There's no Deborah Burks to look, uh, uh, to look offended or scandalized when he's talking crazy. Um, but it's part of a larger picture of hollowing out institutions, of destroying any source of, of independent knowledge.
And finally, we look at, uh, evidence that seems to strongly point to the fact that Steven Miller might actually be the reincarnation of Goebbels. We are continuing to investigate a multiplicity of potential causes with no areas of taboo. One area that we are closely examining, as the president mentioned, is vaccines. Some 40 to 70% of mothers who have children with autism believe that their child was injured by a vaccine. President Trump believes that we should be listening to these mothers instead of gaslighting and marginalizing them, marginalizing them like prior administrations. Some of our friends like to say we should believe all women. Some of these same people have been silencing and demonizing these mothers for three decades. Because research on the potential link between autism and vaccines has been actively suppressed in the past, it will take time for an honest look at this topic by scientists. So you see, this, this is the Me Too movement coming to medical science. We should, we should believe the, the families. We shouldn't gaslight them. We should believe them. Believe the families.
What? Why believe them? Believe them because they believe in paranoid conspiracy theories? No, we shouldn't believe them. That's not medical evidence, John. And, and there's Trump standing behind him, right? Who is, who has dismissed every charge against him by, like, like so many women who have claimed that he's abused them. And there's Teddy. Not a good metaphor for, uh, for Bobby. Right. Good point.
I, I think that's, um, that's that's really so, so goddamn stupid. Um, so of course mothers and fathers who have children with autism are, are worried and feel guilty and are need a lot of support. And yes, many of them will say, you know, I get after that measles vaccine, he started acting differently. I get it, but the science shows there's no connection. It shows it. It shows. It shows one last thing. The doctor in England who published a, or claimed he had a study that showed the connection was found to be a fraud. It was fraudulent. He made up the data. And really good, good and compassionate neuroscientists and pediatricians say the vaccine, vaccines can't hurt the developing brain. It protects them from viruses that can hurt the developing. So, so the only basis they have is a fraudulent article. And he doesn't even cite any science. What he cites is some kind of opinion poll among parents of, of autistic children, which, God forbid, I don't even know if that poll is accurate. I don't, I don't know if it's 40 to 70%. But even whatever the number is, that's just an opinion. We, we deal in medicine with research and data and facts, not just opinions. Oh, it's just, it's really, it's just despicable.
And, you know, Harry, as you and I know, doctors as a group are very reluctant to speak out against authority. Can you say that over the last 10 years, we've observed that? As all of them have kept mum while, um, Trump is, is going insane and and destroying the country. Um, yet they have come out and really said, "Look, this Kennedy thing is insane." And I just want to show you a brief video that the American College of Physicians and Surgeons put out on social media decrying Kennedy.
I'm Dr. Jason Goldman, president of the American College of Physicians. Today, the American College of Physicians, representing over 162,000 internal medicine specialists, call upon President Trump and Congress to remove and replace Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. As physicians and scientists, we have lost confidence in the Secretary's ability to perform his duties in this role. He has spread medical misinformation. He has not relied on science, data, or evidence. And his actions represent an existential threat by continuing to undermine the data and public health infrastructure and evidence that we rely on to take care of our patients. We deserve a secretary who will rely on the evidence and science to make sure we can make the best decisions for our patients. Our country deserves better.
I'm not going to be gaslit by that data. But that's, that's what I call a really good layman. Don't you think, Dr. Goldman?
I, I just think that's fantastic. It's just measured and clear.
Well, I think the offensiveness of what he's saying is only a ma, is only matched by the offensive way in which he's saying it. You know, he's saying, "You're all going to fail, losers. You're all losers. You're all crazy. You're all led by stupid people." You know, they said in the campaign, they wore the hat that said, "I was right about everything and you're dummies and stupid." And I, it's like, "Oh my god." I mean, this is someone if you had him over for dinner, you'd make him leave the house. I mean, well, and but, but at least he can use a big word like braggadocious. Yeah. A little bit. That is actually a word. Braggadocious. Oh, I think bra-ga-do-cious. Is braggadocious a word? I think it is. But, but it's just from a teleprompter. But at least he said it better than acetophenone.
But the, but the thing is, um, he's, um, he, he feels he's so charming when he says he knows everything and has predicted he's right about everything. Larry, he's not bragging. He's not bragging when he says he was right about everything. He just, you know, has to own it.
Well, people buy the hats. I mean, you can't argue with, with the purchasing rates of the hat. Um, all right. I have one last thing to play for you where he touches on how cool his use of tariffs are and he tax Brazil and then talks about running into the leader of Brazil, um, at the UN. It goes like this.
We're also using tariffs to defend our sovereignty and security throughout the world, including against nations that have taken advantage of former U.S. administrations for decades, including the most, uh, corrupt, incompetent administration in history, the sleepy Joe Biden administration. Brazil now faces major tariffs in response to its unprecedented efforts to interfere in the rights and freedoms of our American citizens and others with censorship, repression, weaponization, judicial corruption, and targeting of political critics in the United States. I have a little problem saying this because I must tell you, I was walking in and the leader of Brazil was walking out. We saw him and I saw him, he saw me and we embraced and then I'm saying, "Can you believe I'm going to be saying this in just two minutes?" But we actually agreed that we would meet next week. We didn't have much time to talk, like about 20 seconds. They were in, in retrospect, I'm glad I waited because this thing didn't work out too well. But we did talk. We had a good talk and we agreed to meet next week if that's of interest. But he seemed like a very nice man, actually. We, he liked me. I liked him. But if you, and I only do business with people I like. I don't, when I don't like him, when I don't like them, I don't like them.
Well, that's con, that's really inconvenient if you're president of the United States to only do business with people you like.
Oh, it's, it's he doesn't care. And, and also he, he had this moment with, uh, Dilma, I think his name is, and had this moment and there was chemistry and he knew, yeah, that the guy liked him and he liked him. So, let's get talking. Yeah. This is, this is the policy. This is the foreign policy person we're dealing with. Yeah. It's based on chemistry and instantaneous reactions and projection. Yeah. I mean, who knows? His feeling that someone likes him. Yeah. And if he has a feeling or thought, it's got to be right.
It's a perfect example of Trump trusting anything he feels or thinks. And he improvises it and a during a speech with a global audience, right? I mean, he couldn't have more people watching him say anything than this speech. And, but I have to say, he's so comfortable just improvising. Like he just said, you know, I ran into him and we kind of liked each other, you know, and I had a feeling, you know, we had a moment, you know, we made eye contact, we embraced and, you know, enchantedity, you know, and so and so maybe, maybe what I just said, this vicious thing about his country and foreign policy, maybe, maybe that won't really matter if, you know, we kind of hang out and we have a good time.
