In one of the most stunning displays of lawlessness that we've seen from Donald Trump thus far, he took to Truth Social in what many believe was a note intended only for his attorney general to see, but instead was posted publicly, writing, "Pam, I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that essentially same old story as last time. All talk, no action, nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam, Shifty, Shiff, Leticia? They are all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done."
Then we almost put in a Democrat supported US attorney in Virginia with a really bad Republican past, a woke Rhino who is never going to do his job. That's why two of the worst Dem senators pushed him so hard. He even lied to the media and said that he quit and that we had no case. No, I fired him and there is a great case and many lawyers and legal pundits say so. Lindsay is a really good lawyer and likes you a lot. We can't delay any longer. It's killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice and indicted me five times over nothing. Justice must be served now, President DJT.
Now, I know that we're in an era where Trump and his administration are so lawless that it numbs us to new instances of lawlessness, but I want to be 100% clear that this is an impeachable offense. This is the president of the United States writing publicly to his attorney general that his political opponents need to be prosecuted, that he's firing his own prosecutors who failed to abuse their positions by doing his bidding, and that he views the impending prosecution of the New York Attorney General as retribution for his own indictments, which by the way, all came at the hands of unanimous juries. If ever there was an offense that warrants impeachment, this would be it.
Remember too, Republicans spent years berating Bill Clinton for meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on a tarmac for a few minutes when Bill wasn't even president. The separation between President and the Attorney General was apparently so sacrianked that any modicum of collusion was grounds for a full meltdown. And yet now we are so far through the looking glass that Trump can literally publicly direct his attorney general to engage in vindictive prosecutions. basically admit as much and it straight crickets from the GOP. This makes Watergate look like preschool.
In fact, you don't have to take my word for it. Take Pam Bondies all the way back a lifetime ago when she was testifying at her own confirmation hearing to become the attorney general. >> And um it would not be appropriate for a prosecutor to start with a name and look for a crime. It's a prosecutor's job to start with a crime and look for a name. Correct, >> Senator. I think that is the whole problem with the weaponization that we have seen the last four years and what's been happening to Donald Trump. They targeted Donald Trump. They went after him. Actually, starting back in 2016, they targeted his campaign. They have launched countless investigations against him. That will not be the case if I am attorney general. I will not politicize that office. I will not target people simply because of their political affiliation. Justice will be administered evenhandedly throughout this country. Senator, we've got to bring this country back together. We've got to move forward or we're going to lose our country. >> Pam Bondi very clearly sees zeroing in on a name and then using the DOJ to find a crime as a problem. And yet, that is quite literally the definition of the federal government that she works for and the DOJ that she oversees. The only thing worse than a lawless attorney general who doesn't realize what she's doing is wrong is a lawless attorney general who knows exactly what she's doing is wrong and yet opts to do it anyway. Trump himself had the opportunity to walk his demand back and because he has no check on his power in this government, essentially double down.
[Music] No, I just want people to act. They have to act and we want to act fast. You know, they were ruthless and vicious. I was impeached twice. I was indicted five times. It turned out to be a fake deal. And we have to act fast. One way or the other. One way or the other. They're guilty, they're not guilty. We have to act fast. If they're not guilty, that's fine. If they are guilty or if they should be charged, they should be judged and we have to do it now. >> Trump says if they're not guilty, that's fine. Only small problem, there is no evidence that Leticia James is guilty. No evidence of the mortgage fraud that he's trying to pin on her. That much was made clear by the US attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia who Trump appointed. And so Trump fired him and installed a new US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia to do what he wants him to do. So, it's not exactly fine if Leticia James isn't guilty, is it? If Trump is going to keep replacing the existing prosecutors with new ones until he finds one who's going to engage in a vindictive prosecution to plate the God King.
In fact, just this morning, Trump was asked if he's ever threatened DOJ leadership if they don't prosecute Leticia James. Here's what he had to say. >> Are you concerned about Bondi and if you could not indict? >> No, I He's doing a great job. Pam Bondi is doing a great job. I I think Pam Bondi is going to go down as one of the best attorney generals of of the ages. >> Have you ever played GOP leader who had the fixture? >> No, I don't do that. I don't do that. I mean, I look at the facts like everybody else. You read the facts and to me, she looks terrible. She looks like she's very guilty. But that's going to be up to the DOJ. >> Are you No, no, no, no, no. I don't do that. I would never tell the DOJ or the attorney general what to do or who to prosecute. I'm simply saying that Leticia James is 100% guilty and firing any prosecutors who don't take that conclusion and run with it. But no, I'm not in the business of telling anyone what to do about a definitely guilty Leticia James.
And the irony of this is that because Trump has been so overt and so lawless in his demands that his prosecutors go after his political enemies, what he's actually doing is undermining any potential case that those same prosecutors would bring. As Glen Kersner explained here, >> in the event he can find a US attorney, a flunky, a lap dog, a sycopant to go in and try to prosecute Tish James, though she committed no crimes. That will probably be the most successful vindictive prosecution defense ever mounted by a criminal defendant because the law says you have a due process right under the Constitution not to be prosecuted because of the animous the hatred that a prosecutor has for you. That violates your due process rights. There's a lot more to the legal test for vindictive prosecution, but that is it boiled down to its essence. And what could possibly be more vindictive than Donald Trump, who, let's face it, is the lead prosecutor in all cases for all purposes now because he has basically taken over the Department of Justice's prosecutorial decisionmaking. And you know, Pam Bondi will do whatever she's told to do by dear leader. So, I suspect that a federal judge, if Tish James is indicted and she files a motion to dismiss the indictment based on vindictive prosecution, would not only have a winning defense, she would probably get the case thrown out with prejudice, which means it could never be rebought against her. And the the the fringe benefit of that, Brian, Donald Trump has been threatening to prosecute so many people for so long, 10 years now, for Hillary Clinton. Lock her up, lock her up, lock her up, and dozens and dozens of other enemies. I almost hope that one of these enemies gets indicted on, you know, no evidence, a frivolous vindictive prosecution just so federal judges can announce to the world that Donald Trump is a paper tiger because he can threaten to prosecute people, but he can't follow through. >> Right? that will actually diminish, in my opinion, Donald Trump's power and it will reduce the seriousness of the threats that he's forever making to prosecute his enemies. If federal judges begin to throw them out and say there's no there there. So, I get that Trump relies on this notion that doing crimes in broad daylight somehow makes them not illegal, but they are. If you're on the right, consider what you would say if Biden or Obama directed their attorney general to go after a state attorney general who they didn't like. The Department of Justice is not there to exact political revenge. It is there to uphold the law, something that Pam Bondi herself conceded while lying to get herself confirmed. In a just world, Donald Trump would be impeached within 12 hours of making this comment. But instead, Republicans will defend him because there is nothing they want more than to sacrifice democracy for a dictatorship because something something party of the Constitution.
