[Music] I bet you have been thinking a lot about artificial intelligence lately, how it's changing our world, and it certainly is. But to be bold, I propose that the greatest transformation for humanity is not from the technology that we create. It is from understanding and harnessing the power of our heart.
My journey into the heart did not come from a medical textbook. It started when I suddenly became a patient. Early in my medical career, I found out I required open heart surgery for a congenital heart defect. Now, the surgeon was skillful, surgically repaired my heart. But I quickly realized that there was a deeper healing that was missing in our western model of health. And I was not anticipating the emotional toll. My mind felt different. My spirit felt different. The stories I was telling myself were different. And as I healed, I felt so empty despite achieving success and newfound wealth.
This really sparked a journey of exploration. I started traveling and eventually I ended up in India and there, perhaps a bit like Doctor Strange, I found something profound. I found an ancient science that described the intricate connection between the mind, the heart, and the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. And it fascinated me. As a radiologist, I work with energy fields. It was amazing to see that this ancient wisdom was describing the very energy that made up all of us. The energy that MRI and CAT scans rely on. And it really provided a blueprint to help us understand our true nature and how to tap into that energy, harness it like an innate superpower to unlock our body's inherent ability to heal and thrive.
Now, what's fascinating about this is that your heart sits at the center of this truth. Think about it. Despite being taught in schools that our heart is just a pump, our intuition and our language tell a very different story. We love with all our heart. We know things in our heart of hearts. We feel heartbroken. We don't say, "I love you" with my entire brain, do we? And this profound knowing is just so important because ancient wisdom is now being validated by modern science. And this moment in time truly marks a defining moment in our evolution.
Now let me explain. In my previous TED X talk, "Medicine of Frequencies," what did Einstein mean? We touched on some of this science. We discussed how the heart encodes emotions in heart rhythms which directly affect our physical and our mental health. We discussed this state called coherence, which is an optimal physiologic energetic state that builds resilience, improves performance. How does it work? Your heart is constantly sending signals to your brain and your body. And when you feel a stressful emotion, those rhythms are erratic, incoherent. But by consciously shifting your focus, by practicing heart-focused exercises that cultivate coherence, you can actually change those signals. Your rhythms become smooth and orderly.
Now, what this is, to be very clear, this is not just about feeling good. This is a physiologic shift that optimizes your entire system and it balances your brain and your body, unlocking the potential within each and every one of us. Now, we also discussed how the heart radiates electromagnetic fields, interacting with other hearts and even synchronizing with those we care for. Not just a pump. Our heart is foundational in the science of compassion and the creation of meaningful connections. Our heart speaks directly to our shared humanity.
As I began to practice these techniques, integrating science and spirituality, an inner world became open to me. And it was vast. It was always present, but just lying below my level of awareness. And the more that I practiced with my heart, the clearer it became, my inner state and outer experiences were intrinsically linked.
Now, to be very honest, before my surgery, I guarantee you I'd be the last guy that you'd expect to be talking to you about meditation and ancient wisdom. I was a science-focused, matter-of-fact type of guy. But by approaching this from both sides of the fence, as a physician examining the science and my own transformational experience, I feel I have a duty to share this. I truly believe that understanding the power of the heart isn't just something nice to have. It is actually the missing link to how we approach health, well-being, and even our global challenges.
Now, throughout this journey, you have to understand, I'm a radiologist. I'm a visual thinker. A pattern came to me and I began to really appreciate this design, this image. And the more I began to understand it, the more it helped me understand the bigger picture. I want to share this image. I call it a medicinal monologue because I believe it can help you connect the dots. This figure is made up of two images. The central figure is called a vector equilibrium. This was introduced by Buckminister Fuller and is related to the 1996 Nobel Prize in chemistry. It represents a state of perfectly balanced energy and symbolically, it represents our modern understanding of science and energy. The background lotus flower, well, that's been around for thousands of years. It's an ancient symbol representing the science of mind, consciousness, and our interconnectedness. How these two diagrams flow into each other seamlessly helps us identify a flow of energy through the entire universe like a rhythm. And when you stop and pay attention, you'll begin to realize that everything, including yourself, is dancing to this rhythm. And it's fascinating because it's not just out there. It is your anatomy. It's your physiology.
This all may sound metaphorical, but it's not. The 2022 Nobel Prize was awarded to three gentlemen that experimentally proved that we are all part of a non-local entangled universe. We are all interconnected. The perception of ourselves as separate inner beings is truly an illusion at the deepest level. And I am far from alone in making this bold claim. As Einstein said, "A human being is a part of a whole called by us universe, a part limited by time and space. He experiences himself, his feelings, his thoughts as something separated from the rest. This is a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness." Many scientists are now proving this very idea that our perceived separation masks a deeper unified reality. And it's very important that you understand that the 2022 Nobel Prize is not explaining a universe out there. It's describing the very fabric of reality that we are expressions of. It also explains the common thread between inner peace and global peace. Our individual experiences, our feelings, our thoughts are all forms of energy and they are all feeding into a field of shared energy.
Now, this brings us to a crucial point. We have to learn how to see. As Leonardo da Vinci said, "Realize that everything is connected to everything else." And when you see the world through the medicinal mandola, you can see these connections. You can see the grand scale of humanity functioning like a global ecosystem. Just as the trillions of cells in your body that form a community called you, all of humanity form a larger whole. And when our body is out of balance and incoherent, our cells can lose sight of that connection and they can begin attacking each other. We call this an autoimmune disorder. So let me ask you, how do you feel about the future of humanity? Watching the news, the social divide, the conflict, would you not agree that perhaps the planet is suffering from such a disorder? It often feels like we're living this monopoly game where a few players hold all the power. The game feels stale, frustrated, and frankly rigged. But here's a thought. What if it's not about winning this old game? What if the real power is starting a new game? One that's rooted in connection, compassion, and a deeper understanding of who we truly are. How do we feel connected in such a divided world? How do we shift the perspective from a purely Newtonian point of view to one that includes quantum physics? And I can tell you the path forward to feeling connected and recognizing our inherent interconnectedness starts in the heart.
So today, we're going to spark hearts. Today, we're starting a new game and I invite you and everybody to join me for the Global Heart Sync Challenge. And to share that this is a not-for-profit designed to turn heart coherence into measurable impact. And the cool thing is that this is deeply rooted in science. Researchers have been studying the impact of collective coherence for decades. Take the Middle East Peace Project. In the 1980s, during the Lebanese civil war, Harvard psychologist Dr. Charles Alexander and colleagues hypothesized that groups meditating, cultivating coherence with intention, could measurably reduce conflict. Despite skepticism, the peer-reviewed results published in Yale's reputable Journal of Conflict Resolution were astonishing. Repeated nine times over two years, the data showed that collective coherence correlates with a demonstrable decrease in war fatalities by 71%. War injuries by 68%. Overall conflict by 48%. And increased cooperation between antagonists by 48%. Think about that. Our inner states, when aligned, coherent, and collectively amplified, demonstrably impact the outer world. You see, when we are coherent, we are feeding coherent information, ordered energy, and intention into the quantum field that we are all a part of. And we are also being influenced by the coherence or lack thereof of that field. Your thoughts, your emotions, your intentions matter. And when we practice together, our collective coherence becomes a powerful force for positive change.
Now, how can we bring people together to synergize to unlock this pure potential? And ultimately, how do we actualize this field? Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism calls this field the collective field of compassion. So how are we going to actualize and activate this field? Through the Global Heart Sync Challenge. And this is how it works. We bring people together from around the world, gamifying heart coherence. Participants receive tools like a free biofeedback app that's clinically proven to help measure and improve your coherence training. As you practice, you cultivate well-being and you contribute coherence points to a global pool. Together, we unlock collective milestones. We reach collective milestones, unlocking sponsorships from corporations and philanthropists that will fund much-needed mental health and resilience programs in communities in need and in schools. Together, we can make change. The Global Heart Sync movement directly links self-care with social activism. It is a breathing, living way to witness this emergence of a global heartbeat.
Now, by recognizing this deep connection and the synchronizing of hearts around the world, will help us reframe how we understand ourselves and our relationships to each other and will shift our global worldview. Here's the magic. How do we capture? How do we amplify this energy of this growing movement? How do we make this collective heartbeat more visible, more tangible, more infectious? And this is where RAD art comes in. So, as my capstone project from Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, RAD art is a nonprofit strategy that uses art as a bridge to share knowledge and to fund powerful coherence training. In fact, our very talented RAD artist, Katie Lorraine, is here today doing just that. Okay, give her a big round of applause. Katie is intuitively capturing the energy of this conversation, these moments today as we spark the Global Heart Sync movement together. Certified RAD artists are trained to capture the unique energy of the conversations and the monumental moments that are changing our world and raising humanity's coherence. Every piece of art created is linked via a QR code back to the creation story, documenting the conversations, the connections, the shifts in perspective that is changing our world one heart at a time. And each piece of art becomes a hub of knowledge, inspiration, and a pipeline to a growing community dedicated to well-being and our common humanity. The energy that Katie is capturing here today is already translating into real-world impact, raising money towards heart coherence training for local high school students. So you see, compassion is contagious. And when we infuse art, we can spark a pandemic of compassion, of kindness, coherence that can pivot our global trajectory. Your participation with the Global Heart Sync movement, layered with RAD art, is helping transform this wave into a tsunami of positive change.
Einstein said, "The highest form of intelligence is imagination." So I invite you to have this vision in your mind with me. The Global Heart Sync movement, starting in communities like these, spreading across nations. RAD art, documenting the global heartbeat, creating cycles of compassion and sparking a renaissance approach to change. Action funds art. Art inspires more action. Imagine musicians, artists, leaders joining in, amplifying this coherent signal. Imagine the global heartbeat taking center stage, sparking a celebration, galvanizing hearts and minds around the world. Imagine the global heartbeat as a powerful, visible force for unity.
I hope you see what I see. And I hope you feel what I feel. This is not just wishful thinking. This is rooted in science, validated by experience, and powered by our collective potential. The old game has run its course, and a new game is beginning. This new game begins in your heart. It connects us. It connects us all. And it has the power to reshape our world. And to the youth especially, you are not just the leaders of tomorrow. You are the heartbeat of today. Your generation can choose a different path. Embrace the power in your hearts to break old cycles and create a legacy of connection for generations to come. This is our time to spark the heart of humanity. I invite you all to join and learn more at globalheartsync.org. Thank you.
