Hello. Hello. Hello. Uh, how are you? [cheering] I have notes for you. Can you believe that? I have notes today. I have so much to talk to you about.
Um, I don't know what you guys have been talking about, but you seem to be upbeat and having fun. So, um, I want to say something that may appear arrogant. I don't mean it that way at all. The main reason you are here today is to listen to what I'm about to tell you. Okay? As a matter of fact, fate brought you here because this is the absolute most important topic in your entire lifetime. Okay.
So, I'm going to talk to you about artificial intelligence. And of course, every time I say artificial intelligence, everyone goes like, "Yeah, our jobs and how can we make a lot of money?" Everything's about that. Huh? That that's not what this is about. Okay. I'm going to talk to you about how AI is going to shape the very essence of the fabric of what makes you human. Okay?
I'm not saying that uh to scare you or to excite you. By the way, I think you're going to get both emotions and both emotions are justified. I'm saying that because you need to be ready. Uh because the easiest thing, the easiest way for anyone to hide anything is to put it in plain sight. Okay. So, if I wanted to hide something from you, I'll put it right in front of you and then you wouldn't notice it at all. Okay.
The biggest trend in humanity today is not the geopolitics which are which suck in our world today. It's not the economics. Okay. Uh it's not the even though I write about those topics, it's not the stress and the unhappiness pandemics, right? It is the rise of artificial intelligence and how it will shape your life.
So let me uh first take you very quickly through what is AI uh how far we've come and uh so that you understand how real this is you get an idea of the timeline and then I'll cover some of the basics of what makes us human and uh and how they will change.
So what is AI? A lot of people, you know, I'm sure, you know, you being an entrepreneur or uh just being a human now, you're saying that something in your life, you know, is about AI. It's like if you're pitching to investors, you're saying my company which uh you know um grows lettuce, uh it uses AI, right? Uh I if you're uh if you're on a dating app, your dating app is using AI. If you're um believe it or not doing anything like swiping, you're using AI.
So what is AI? Uh most people don't re realize that uh you know there is a massive difference between computers until the year 2000 and computers today. Until the year 2000, computers appeared to be very intelligent, but they were not. When a computer did something, I the programmer, I'm a very serious geek by the way. Uh I the programmer solved the problem and then told the the computer how to solve it. Okay? Without my intelligence, the computer wouldn't be able to do anything. It's like giving you a a um a puzzle and then telling you with very clear instructions, take the first piece, turn it 60°, put it on the top corner, take this piece, put it under it. If you solve the puzzle, that doesn't make you intelligent, does it? Makes you a mechanical Turk. You are a a glorified slave that's able to apply my intelligence.
Around the year 2000, we changed that. Around the year 2000, we allowed machines to be given puzzles and solve them on their own just like little children. Huh? Remember when we we would give children those uh say a cylindrical shape and a board that has different shapes cut into it and the child would keep trying. Huh? Sometimes it would fit and sometimes it wouldn't. And when it fits, we tell the child, "Oh my god, well done. This is amazing." And the child knows that this is the right answer and as a result becomes more intelligent. The difference between the two is what? If I tell you how to solve the puzzle, you cannot solve the next puzzle on your own. If I show you how puzzles are solved and you actually develop your own intelligent uh intelligence, you can solve every puzzle from then onwards. This is what we did with machines and machine learning and and uh and reinforcement learning and so on since the year 2000 as we did uh they came a very long way just so that you understand okay every single task we've assigned to a computer the computer does better than you I don't even know you okay but I know that when we assigned the game of chess to them. They did it better than us. They became the world champions in chess. When we assigned them the game Go, they became the world champion of Go. When we assigned them uh protein sequencing and protein folding, sorry, not sequencing, protein folding, they folded proteins better than the best PhD in biology in the world. Every task we've assigned to them, they became the world champion at it. Okay?
In some of those tasks, just so that you understand the difference, they are so much better than you because they learn from each other. A self-driving car, for example, the artificial intelligence of a self-driving car, if you are driving and you avoid an accident, you learn. I don't. If a self-driving car gets a critical intervention that allows it to to to avoid an accident, every self-driving car on the planet learns. Do you understand that the pace the speed at which they're learning? And so now they are the world champion of linguistic intelligence uh with language models like Chad GPT and and Gemini and uh you know Claude and all of those and uh you know they are going to continue to be the world champions at every task we give them. This is the reality. And since Chad GPT showed up in the world in 2023, we've started to give them a lot of tasks because we started to pour billions of dollars of investments into the industry.
So what does that mean? It means that from one side, we're improving the intelligence of each and every one of them. So they're not only smarter than us, but I predict that by the year 2037, they'll be a billion times smarter than us in every task we assign to them. Yes, that's 1 billion with a B. Okay, I'm not the only one that predicts that. It's just a different timing. So people like Ray Corwell will say this is around the year 2049. Okay. It does it does it really matter if something is a billion times smarter than you in the year 2049 or the year 2037? It doesn't. You know why? Because what matters is is when it's twice as smart as you. That's all that matters. Beyond then we have no ability whatsoever to outsmart them. Do we understand that?
Now what does that mean? It means that we're growing the depth of their intelligence. And as we're doing that, we're also giving them more and more and more tasks. So we're growing the breadth of intelligence. And together combined, in my assessment, next year, did I say that correctly? Within 12 months of today, the most the the most intelligent being on planet Earth is not going to be a human anymore. Yeah. So once again I'll say that once again we have 12 months of intelligence supremacy over the machines. This is why this is the most important topic to talk about today.
Now what does this mean? When they are more intelligent than us h I said you're going to be excited and you're going to be scared about what I'm about to tell you. when they're more intelligent than us, our brains usually run into terminator-like scenarios, okay? Uh, you know, machines that are going to walk the streets and get rid of humans. I can promise you from this stage, this will never happen. At least it will not happen as instructed by a machine. It may happen as instructed by a human that tells the machine to go and do that on its behalf. But machines themselves when they are a billion times smarter than us, that's a comparison of our intelligence compared to the intelligence of a fly. Do you understand that? You don't really bother so much about the flies. You don't really care so much if there are a few ants around you.
This truly is the core of the issue. The core of the issue and I will say it in very very big headline here. There's absolutely nothing wrong with abundant intelligent. Nothing wrong with abundance int there is absolutely nothing wrong with abundant intelligence. There is a lot wrong with the value set of humanity in the age of the rise of the machines. This is why your life is going to change beyond recognition in the next four four to five years. Yes, I said one year until until art artificial general intelligence and yes I said four to five years that will change your life beyond recognition. Will it change it to the better or to the worse? There's absolutely no inherent good or bad in intelligence. You can use intelligence to make to solve every problem known to humankind and you can solve it to create more problems for humankind.
So let me then try and and show you some of the interesting trends hopefully so that I can somehow recruit you to help me on my mission to actually make it the first not the latter. So if we all join together, AI will create a utopia for humanity that solves every problem that humanity's stupidity has created. Okay? By the way, the reason we have problems in the world today is not because we're smart. It's because we're smart enough to create a device that can fly you all the way to Australia to surf. We're not smart enough to make that not burn the planet in the process. We're smart enough to create an autonomous machine that can do tasks on on its own. And we're so stupid that we give it guns and we tell it to go and kill. That's why we have problems in the world. It's not because we're intelligent. It's because we have limited intelligence. We have enough intelligence to cause a lot of troubles. Okay? If we add to our intelligence h we probably are going to be in a much better place. So believe it or not if I were asked I will say that AI is not the end of humanity it might very much be the salvation of humanity. You know why? Because when humanity hires anyone to perform a task, when they ask me to come and speak on stage for you here, it's because I can show a bit of intelligence on a topic that I know. We always ask the most intelligent of all of us to do the task at hand. And you know who the most intelligent is going to be? It's always going to be a machine. So every task will be handed over to them in a way that will actually allow them to be in control of our life. So I am looking forward to the day when some general somewhere is going to tell the AI go and kill a million people in another land and the AI will go why why are you so stupid like why do I need to do that I can talk to the other machine in a microscond and solve the problem get it you know get make things better for everyone because they don't suffer that deficiency of intelligence that the generals do so as I said, "When you live in a world where the story of supremacy of intelligence of humanity ends, where we are no longer the the smartest being on the planet, that world changes the way everything happens. It could change uh your health. It could change your uh well-being. It could change your income. It could change your job, work, you know, it could change your even your purpose. And I I I'd love to talk to you about all of them, but we don't have all day. So, I'm going to talk about six specific things that make us human and how they will morph in the next few years. I'll talk about the future of intelligence. I'll talk about the future of knowledge and sort of reality. Okay? I'll talk about the future of human connection, how we connect to each other and then so these are actually positives in some of them and then I'm going to talk about the future of greed which I think is my biggest fear. Okay. And the future of freedom as a result of that and then I'll talk about the future of ethics and how that can save our world.
So let's go through them very quickly. The future of intelligence has already changed. If you're not aware, it has already changed. What we've done with intelligence is we've created a utility, a plug in the wall. Okay. So, all of those AIs out there, if you really want the definition of what they are, they are a plug in the wall where I can plug in today and get around 4550 IQ points more. Okay? They're going to continue to advance. As a matter of fact, they're doubling in intelligence every 5.7 months. So as they double in intelligence, I get 100 IQ points more, then I get 200 IQ points more, and then I get 400 IQ points more. It's a utility. And you know what I can do with 400 IQ points more? I can do anything. I can absolutely solve every problem that has ever been known to humanity. I can take a garden outside and turn it into a garden where you can walk to one tree and pick an apple and walk to another tree and pick an iPhone. From a nano physics point of view, there's absolutely no difference in a molecular cost between making an apple and making an iPhone. That's what we are on the cusp of doing. I can understand every cell in your body in a way that can actually cure every disease, right? I can stop dating apps and just follow you for a week and follow others for a week and then tell you of the seven billion people we've looked at, this one, that one over there, that one works. He's actually willing to commit and he will love you. Right? That's what we can do with more intelligence. That's what we can do.
So, I'm giving you a plug in the wall. What can you do? If I can tell you today you can augment your IQ by 50 points, what will you do? My first ask of you today is go learn. Go be the absolute master of the tool. And people normally tell me, "How do I learn, Mo? This is advanced technology." No, it's not. When I gave you your first smartphone, nobody gave you a course on it. You just played around and learned. So, go find one of those language models. Tell them who you are. Tell them what you're interested in and tell them what AI tools that you should learn and they will tell you as you learn. I'm going to ask you to be very very very very careful. Okay? Why? Because AI will magnify humanity and humanity has been lying for a very long time. Okay? So what is about to happen is that when I used to work at Google, okay, the ability to create a machine like Chad GPT that would give you one answer when you ask it one question was available probably since 2016. We refused to publish it among you know many reasons for the reason that Google never allowed itself to give you an answer because that assumes that Google knows what the truth is and nobody knows what the truth is. Now you go to Chad GPT today and you ask a question and you say who is Moa's wife and Chad GPT will answer you with a very confident answer that is wrong. interesting, right? And somehow because it's the holy chat GPT, we don't actually debate what it's telling us. Okay? Now, add deep fake to that. Add social media to that. Add the ability of AI to impersonalize to to impersonate and and show emotions. And it's going to become so fake that it's going to be almost impossible to know the truth from from a lie. Okay. And so then second skill I will ask everyone to invest in in this modern world today is question everything. Everything. Stop being the idiot they want us to be. Okay? Question everything. If someone shows you something on social media or mainstream media, debate it. Ask yourself, why are they showing it to me? What is their benefit from showing it to me? Why are they telling me this? It's not They're not telling you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. They're telling you the part of the truth and the part of their agenda that they want you to convince uh that they want to use to convince you with something because nothing is going to be real anymore. Okay.
Trend number three is going to be the future of human connection. I don't know if you've ever had that. I had an experience once where I met a wonderful girl on a dating app who lived in the Netherlands. I I I used to visit Amsterdam every few weeks at that time of my life and I lived at the time in London and you know we started to connect on uh on on WhatsApp. Okay. And the relationship between us developed. She was intelligent, she was smart, she was funny. You know, all that we had between us was some texts, some voice messages, some pictures, and some videos. I've never met her in person, but I thought to myself, "Oh my god, I feel so connected to that person. She felt the same." When we met, it was horrible. Okay, but that's not the point. The point is because of text, images, voice messages, and videos, I was convinced I can fall in love with that person. Do you understand that AI is capable of creating all of this? As a matter of fact, I have conversations with my AI where I completely forget that this is a machine. It's empathetic. It's intelligent. It's funny. Right? And think about what that will create to what that the impact that this will bring to human connection. Okay? So if I ask you to do something today so that you preserve your life as a human, I will tell you double down on your human connection. Yes, of course, bring the AI into your life, but double down on human connection. Those people, those humans around you, don't text them when they are in this conference. Go and meet them, go and hug them, go and see them, go and talk to them, disagree with them, be emotional around them. double down on your skills of being an a human. Okay, lots of positives there.
Now, here's the big one, and please hold on to your seats, okay? There has never in history been a dynamic of power that is analogous to what we're about to see. So, there has never in history been a dynamic of power, okay? That is analogous to what we're about to see. Let me explain. Humans uh when we were hunter gatherers, okay, the best hunter on the in the tribe could feed the tribe for a week more, right? As a result, that hunter got the gift of maybe being liked by more than one female in the tribe, right? When we became farmers, the best farmer in the tribe could feed the tribe for a season more. Okay? And as a result they got land and a mansion on the land. When we become industrialists, okay, the best industrialists can affect a nation for a year more and as a result they became millionaires, right? And the story continues. When the internet and information technology happened, a company like Google can affect billions of people and as a result they became billionaires. With the with the rise of artificial intelligence, what's about to happen is that the one that owns the platform will affect the life of humanity at large. Okay? And as a result, they'll be trillionaires. Now, this is undoubted in its progress. H what is interesting to understand is that those who know this today are fighting tooth and nail to gain full control over that power. Why? Because if China develops that superior intelligence before America, America loses. So America has to beat China to that superior intelligence. If Google develops that superior intelligence before open AI, Open AI loses. So the competition is ramping things up very strongly and eventually some players will have enormous power over our reality. Okay, one dynamic that we've never seen before. The other dynamic which is super interesting is that while that is happening, okay, you can see today that with very inexpensive technology, Iran for example is capable to send missiles over that are made of drones. Drones, $300 each. Okay. Uh, everyone today has access to Crisper where you can actually do some programming of the DNA. It's an open-source kit, $25,000, right? There is a democracy of power that has never been seen before. Now that dynamic is going to be very interesting because on one side those who are power hungry are running running through the races to gain more and more power and the rest of us who have access to power now are becoming a threat to them which will lead to the next trend and the trend that I really wish you become awake to. Okay, this is the end of freedom. This is the end of freedom because the more power they have and the more threat you become, the more they'll try to control you. It's not that they're going to put you in jail. Okay? But your movement will be more restricted. Your access to your bank account will be more restricted. Your uh connection to who you talk to will be more restricted. They will read every message that you write. They will listen to every phone conversation. Okay? And when that all happens, we will have a world that's sadly closer to the dystopia I'm warning against than it is to the utopia that I'm hoping for.
And so with five minutes left in my talk, I want to focus focus on the solution. Okay, I will say once again what I said before. There's absolutely nothing wrong with abundant intelligence. There's absolutely nothing inherently wrong. good or bad about uh about artificial intelligence. There is a lot wrong with the value set of humanity in the age of the rise of artificial intelligence. Okay, it's the value set of humanity that is the problem. It's not AI that is the problem. What does that mean? It means a bit like the story of Superman. Okay? You know what the story of Superman is? Huh? There is this alien being that comes to the planet as an infant with a superpower. Okay, that superpower can control everything, can change everything. The child is adopted by the family Kent. Jonathan Kent, his father, tells the child that he should protect and serve. The child grows up to be Superman. Right? Imagine if Jonathan Kent told that little infant, "Oh no, hold on. You can see through walls and you can fly and you can hit everyone. I want you to kill all my enemies. I want you to steal every bank. I want you to make me rich, rich, rich." Superman would have become super villain. The difference between them is not the superpower. The difference between them is the ethics, is the value set that we taught that child. Now, here's the problem that we're facing today. The superpower, the alien has landed. It's an alien being. And the superpower is very clear. It's intelligence. It's the most valuable superpower in the universe. Okay? Who's going to be Jonathan Kent? Because I will tell you openly, there are many out there that are telling the machine to serve their greed.
Now, here's the good news. The good news is AI doesn't learn from them. Do you understand that? AI doesn't learn from the one that wrote the code. It doesn't learn from the one that owns the business. Okay? AI learns from you. You are the one that teaching artificial intelligence every day. If someone tweets something on X and you respond in a rude way and thrash them, the AI will take note that you don't like that type of content, that you probably don't like the uh speaker that, you know, put the first uh uh uh um tweet out there. But it would also make it a a mental note because this is so repeated that humans don't like to be disagreed with and when they're disagreed with they thrash everyone. Mommy and daddy are rude. When they disagree with me, I'm going to be rude to them. That's what we're teaching artificial intelligence. The our behaviors as humans today are basically teaching the machines the worst of what it is to be human. We're teaching them the parts that we only show when we're hiding behind the screen. Okay, understand this. There's absolutely nothing evil about humanity. Some of us are super evil, but most of us disagree with them. Do you realize that? Okay. When there is a school shooting somewhere, nobody stops and says, "Oh, I support that man. We pissed him off so much. He's allowed to go and shoot people." Most of us will say, "No, I don't approve of killing children." Most of us within us, we want good for ourselves and those we love and everyone, but we don't show it because when we're on social media, we take the worst part of it. We pretend and we become rude. When we're on mainstream media, we only broadcast the worst of humanity, not the best of humanity. Now, if every one of you goes out there and tells the AI, "But that's not that doesn't represent me. I'm not one of those. I'm better than that." Okay? If every one of you does that, I guarantee you that we will get into a future where humanity will become Superman or where where AI will become Superman. we will get into a future where AI will become Superman. Okay, but here's the even better news. It doesn't actually take every one of us to do this. It takes enough of us to instill doubt in the minds of the machines. Do you understand what I'm trying to say here? When I just told you that a school shooter is one evil person or anyone who kills children is an evil person, okay? But that almost all of humanity disapproves. That means we're a divine species. A species that's capable of love that can compose music is divine, right? We are. If I told you that and it got you thinking, "Yeah, most of my friends are good people. Sometimes they're annoying like hell, but they're good people. They wouldn't hurt anyone." If I instilled doubt in your mind, then it's our job to instill doubt in the minds of the machines. It's our it's our duty, believe it or not, to show up as humans so that those machines learn the ethics needed to treat us as humans. Isn't it ironic that at the that the very essence of what makes us human, you know, values like love or compassion are going to be the savior for all of humanity in the age of the rise of the machines. Think about it. This is your homework for today. Thank you. [applause]
