Simple Noticing Is More Powerful Than You Might Think.... Try It

So, what we're going to do is just notice. Notice whatever there is to notice.

It may just be what's in front of your face, the visual experience. It may be some thoughts in your mind wondering what I'm talking about. It may be some self-talk to yourself about what is the subject, what is this person talking about? Is it spirituality? Is this a meditation? Just notice those thoughts.

Could be images in your mind about something that has happened in the recent past, some memory, a problem you've been thinking about. Just notice. Notice whatever appears. Could be thoughts, could be analysis, could be your own voice in your mind, could just be the sounds, could be some bodily sensations, feeling in the chest, feeling in the gut, some warmth, might feel some coolness, like the air over your skin.

So, we're just going to let the noticing do the work. We're not going to do noticing. We're just going to notice noticing or we're going to let noticing be simply where and how it is.

You may notice that things get a little clearer, a little brighter. Sound is a little sharper. Maybe you notice the movement of thought and consciousness is a little more salient, a little more fluid-like. Or you may notice it's oceanic like the vastness of being or the vastness of knowing, requiring no thought to know but the pure knowingness. The knowingness that makes thought possible. The knowingness that makes knowledge possible.

That expanse of consciousness may become more all-encompassing or engulfing. may feel peaceful, deep, settled. You may also notice the demarcation or border between sounds, sensations, and consciousness or thoughts are blurry. There is no specific boundary between anything. Almost as if the noticing has blended in with what's being noticed. So the noticing and noticed are one.

And in this there are no boundaries, no edges, no beginning or end of experience, no person apart from experience, no objects apart from experience. Just this pure noticing of experience as it is from its own arising from its own appearance. Thus, the word noticing can drop away.

There's just this indescribable aliveness. We'll call it aliveness, although that's a description. This doesn't have a description. It leaves nothing out. It's not excluding anything at all. Like sensation is not excluded. Even pain is not excluded, emotion is not excluded, sound is not excluded, thoughts are not excluded. So there's nowhere you cannot go. There's no missing part. There's no shadow space. Just the openness, the clarity, the boundlessness.
