Hey everybody, welcome to today's episode. Today I'm going to help you to grow your YouTube channel and online business with something I'm calling the common sense method. This is a method I've been using for the last 15 years. Some of my clients have been using it to great success. Shout out to Coach Tagan here on YouTube. She started her channel a few months ago and she's already hit over 500,000 views. I think she's doing great.
Right now, the state of social media in general, it's it's gotten kind of um silly. By that I mean people who want to create their their life's work. It's gotten so over complicated that beautiful teachers and leaders like you, you feel overwhelmed and confused. Um you're also kind of doing things that aren't really feeling in alignment with your heart and soul and it's just kind of a lot of us are are doing like a whirling dervish routine with our life's work and not getting much traction in the places that it matters. And that's why I'm making this video because it really actually is simple. I've condensed all of this down into steps for you that are very simple and practical and key points.
The first step, and I'm going to be looking over at my notes today. The first step is clarify and commit. I'm going to show you a image right now of a dot on a screen and you're seeing the dot and everybody's seeing the dot. the dot being the the stats, the views, the subscriber number, the profits, the sales, the metrics, the KPIs, all of that stuff. To be fair, all of that stuff does play a part, but it can't play a part in the creative process. If you would like to succeed on YouTube and grow your channel, we have to step all the way out of looking at the goddamn dot. Everybody in their mom's looking at the dot.
If we want to talk about being on the dot, getting getting to the dot, the proverbial dot, the views, the stats, the subscriber numbers, you can sit on your kitchen floor and cry. You can eat a mukbang. You could post elacious videos about your divorce story. You could air your dirty laundry. I could go on and on. We could do a two-hour video about how to get views. To what end, though, my friend, to what end? We're talking about elevating this experience to doing our life's work.
So, here's how I experience it as a content creator and a person who's been doing online business here on YouTube and selling all kinds of products and services, health and fitness stuff, spirituality stuff, self-development stuff, yoga, all kinds of things, uh, nutrition courses. The way that I experience it is when I'm doing this from a space of actually expressing who and what I am instead of trying to please some amorphous algorithm and looking at the goddamn dot. Who gives a about the dot? What happens then is I'm expanding. I'm I'm growing. And it's not so much about getting to the dot or getting something from this process. It's actually about the journey. And it's actually about what I'm able to ex experience as I do this. So the whole thing, the whole thing is the point. The videos and creating the videos are the point. Sharing your ideas with the world is the point. Coming to the blank slate every day and thinking up beautiful ideas and sharing your frameworks with the world is the point.
So, we have to we have to in this common sense method instead of looking at the goddamn dot and this isn't me talking to you like this. This is me talking to the collective like this. Let's all stop looking at the goddamn dot because that is stressful. It's sucking the joy out of the entire process. Instead of doing that, how about we expand and give and generate um and be generative and generous. So, the commitment is to generosity. That's the shift. And I wonder if you can feel that shift. Doesn't that feel so much different? If instead of trying to make a hit, make videos for view for views, coming to this whole process as quote unquote making YouTube videos, what if we instead what if here's the invitation. What if we commit to doing our life's work? What if we commit to giving generously and making every video that we post something that could stand alone as a in our in our catalog as a beautiful piece of a body of work that we're proud of. So when you're posting your videos, these are things that are just your life's work and making making sure that they're generous. So that's step one is committing to generosity. a commitment to generosity, a commitment and devotion to generosity and doing your life's work are one and the same. So when we're looking at the dot and we're obsessing about the dot and everybody's going to the dot, you my friend will be in the 1% when you become the space that surrounds the dot. When you become the generosity, that is all that really is. That is the truth. That is love. That is the fabric of what makes this whole experience so lovely. When you find a great piece of content, when you find a beautiful video on YouTube that you love, hopefully one like this one, you can feel that there's love in it. And that is the capital T truth. So, commitment to generosity. Let all the way go of the outcomes and don't ever again focus on the goddamn dot.
The second part of this is clarity. So we can't be generous. This is I guess this is step one part part two 1.2. We can't be generous if we're not really clear about the transformation that we're offering. We can't be generous if we're not really sure what we're giving. We can't be generous if we're not really sure about what somebody's going to get when they watch one of our videos or when they come to our when they come into our world. So, what is somebody going to get when they come into your world? Try to get clarity on that. This might sound like I'm telling you to pick a niche. And I actually hate niches. Instead, I recommend that you pick a north star. Here's the northstar framework. Okay? Instead of picking a niche, I recommend a north star. And I heard a beautiful YouTuber called Evan Carmichael say this and it really hit the nail on the head for me because that's exactly what I've been doing for 15 years and what I really recommend everybody do. A north star is what is the key transformation you want to give your people. So what is it? What's the key transformation you want to give your people? I'm going to give you my northstar. So I'm here to help you to get rich inside and out. That's my north star. And any video you see from me, it's going to help you to feel rich inside. Not not necessarily even just about money, but about confidence, about clarity, about there's a richness to what I want you to feel when you come into my world, an authenticity, a rawness. And I want you to I I invite you to and I want you to take the brave commitment to get clear about what exactly you're going to be offering in terms of a transformation. So, a lot of teachers and leaders in this world, we hesitate to do that because it's scary. We feel like we're going to box ourselves in. We're multi-passionate. If you're watching me, I know that you have at least five or six different passions, but there's a really good chance that you're only honestly an expert at just a couple. So, I want you to feel free to take a leap into picking a key transformation and then committing to just a few topics for your YouTube channel that you're going to talk about.
Step number two is major. This is a highlevel concept and I'm going to do my best to explain this to you. So the the thumbnail of this video. I've never I never make YouTube videos and I suggest you don't either. And I know that that sounds a bit like a co-an. And I'm not trying to confuse you. Don't make YouTube videos. Make your life's work. I hope you see the difference in that one statement that I just gave you. When we're going to make a YouTube video, there's a certain vibe to that. Okay, I've never made a YouTube video. Of course, I'm posting to YouTube. Of course, I'm making videos that I'm going to be posting onto this platform, but that is not what's in my mind when I'm creating the videos. Do you see? So, a lot of people when they're creating for this platform, when they're creating videos, they're thinking about the concept of YouTube and they're thinking about the concept of the audience and the fact that billions of people come on this platform and they're thinking about, I wonder if there's going to be views because YouTube has that little view counter thing and I wonder if I'm going to get subscribers because YouTube has that little subscriber thing. So, if you've been thinking about this whole thing as making YouTube videos, I hope you understand what I mean by that. like the energetic frequency and the place that puts our body in. If I was making YouTube videos every time I posted, I can see how that would suck the joy right out of it and I would be hesitating. It's just too big. It's a concept. It gets conceptual.
So instead of doing YouTube videos, we're just going to create our life's work. What that means is we're creating things that we're really excited to share about. So I wrote down this is a nondoing. This is a non-doing. I'm not trying to sound like a Zen master here. I was honestly trying to convey to you how effortless this is. Instead of coming to this whole thing feeling so much stress and pressure to perform a certain way or to do it a certain way or to get it right, to get views, to get subscribers, to do all this stuff to create a video that that lands, that hits, that gets us sales, that grows our business. Let's let go of all of that and do our life's work. Meaning, when we're truly doing our life's work, please listen to what I'm about to say as though it's about to change your life, cuz it is if you really let it sink in. When you're doing your life's work, you're not doing anything. It's a nondoing. Just like flowers aren't trying to be flowers, just like the oak tree is not trying to be an oak tree. Just like a bird's not trying to be a bird. when we're doing our life's work, meaning when we just show up and do what we're called to do, it's a non-doing. But when we're making YouTube videos, there's no getting around it. You're going to be It's a doing thing. It's a efforting. It's a even just me saying, "Create a YouTube video, you know, making YouTube videos. I'm going to make a YouTube video." It just sematically empties the whole thing and then and then the the creative process is gone. Gone. But when you're creating your life's work and you're showing up and you're actually just letting it flow, that is exactly how it is. Then you're dancing with your muse. You're dancing with the creative process and you're just being you. So you turn the camera on after you put together your your scripts using my unscripting template. And the morning practice, you know, you're writing a page. You're writing a page. You write a page every other day or every day if you can. and then you put something beautiful together and you just sit in front of the camera and just let it flow. That's a non-doing. Okay? So, you're just doing your life's work. A teacher of mine named Dr. Richard Miller said he gets us marching orders every day and that's how he kind of guides stay. So, when we're doing our life's work and when we're creating like this, the reason you feel called to watch a video like this is because you're being called to do your life's work and to put it out into the world. And I want you to know this isn't by accident that you're watching this video. And this is my hopefully helping you to give yourself permission to really do it exactly the way that you want to do it. Say it how you want to say it. Deliver it how you want to deliver it. Talk about whatever you want to talk about. There are so many people who come to me and say, "I had this idea I was thinking about." And then they follow it up with this amazing idea. I'm sure that you have an amazing idea. Pop your ideas down below if you want. And I say, "That's a great idea." But they're like looking like, "Is that an is that an okay idea?" And I'm telling you, if you get an idea and it feels good in your body, that's your life's work. Let it rip.
Let's move to step three. And step three is your videos are for them. Your videos are for them. Now, this sounds like a paradox. I I understand this sounds like a paradox. I'm not telling you to create videos to please the algorithm. I'm saying that every video that we make and the process of creating those things, it's for them. It's also simultaneously for you. You're creating your life's work, meaning you're expressing your soul. Just so happens that a lot of the times when we're doing that, it's going to be really helpful for other people. You're not making it for views. You're not making it for self- validation. You're not making it for um any other reason in the process of making it except for to be expressing your soul and helping them. This is again, this is a feeling tone thing. A really common thing that happens with YouTube and creating and getting on camera is people get worried about how they're going to sound, how they're going to look, um if people are going to like me, are people going to like me? It's way back there for a lot of us. It's hidden way in the back. Are people going to like me? You You got this fear of being seen. You You're going like this. Your consciousness is like this about the whole thing. And I'm telling you to move the light of your consciousness onto them. Move the light of your consciousness onto your people and really shine the light on your people.
15 years ago when I started here on YouTube, I had this obsession with every video that I made. I wanted to make sure that women were gonna be be healthier after watching those videos. I was hellbent on the fact that every single video I posted, I wanted it to help people to get healthier. And whether or not somebody bought my programs, they were going to leave my channel transformed. They were going to leave my video with epic meal meal preps and workouts. And I was actually posting the same things that my clients in real life were paying me a decent amount of money for. I mean, I was a broke personal trainer. They weren't paying me all that much, but they were paying me and I was then taking that same stuff and I was posting it on YouTube for free. And what that did was it helped people to understand that I could help them. And then they were referring their friends to my channel. And then my channel really grew and took off because the quality of the content was so helpful for them. So, when you're sitting down to to create your videos, I wonder if right now you can imagine what it is that that you've decided to transform and help people with. What is it that you normally charge a lot of money to to do for people that you could now put on the internet for free? That's my dare to you. See, this is a shift. A lot of business owners and online content creators that have a business online, they think, "Okay, I'm going to post just a little tiny something. It's kind of watered down." And then I'll say, "Hey, go to my course or program to get the good stuff." And I'm telling you, flip it. I'm not telling you to put watered down stuff in your course. I'm telling you, flip your mindset about the whole thing and start getting super generous with your videos and start posting content that people could actually pay for. and then post even more good stuff in your in your courses, in your programs, in your live events, and your workshops. I'm talking about generosity here as the common sense approach to building your profits, building your YouTube channel, and building your online business.
One of the most massive steps in the common sense method is pushing the upload button. I want you to consider a finished project, the victory. And I want you to consider the fact, just play with this for a second, that the work is the reward. That's major. I hope you can just really take a moment to soak that in because that is kind of the lynch pin to the whole thing. The work is the reward. If you don't enjoy doing these things, um there's not there's there's no reason that you should force yourself to do any of this stuff. But if you want to do this stuff, if you want to create your life's work, if you want to share your messages, you want to share your gifts and talents, you want to get your yourself out there, you want to leave your mark, then the work is the reward. You showed up, you finished a project. That is the whole point. Let go of looking at the goddamn dot and be the space around the dot. Hopefully that idea and concept is like a catalyst for transformation for you in this moment.
If you want to go deeper with these frameworks, I am hosting a live event that's free on Monday, September 8th, and I have two sessions. I have a 1 p.m. session and a 5:00 p.m. session.
