All right, everybody. I am back with a brand new Friday DC update. And boy, things are getting wild out there with the DCU and with James Gunn.
I am appalled at the marketing that they're doing for Peacemaker right now. I find it to be disgusting and they are putting no safeguards in place. They are pushing out the Peacemaker season 2 trailer and it is a redband trailer that is visible for anybody on social media. If you got a Facebook account, uh Twitter account, YouTube, there's no age verification going on. You could just go in and you can watch this trailer. And it's not pretty. It is disgusting. It is very clear that James Gunn has a problem with sexual jokes, with sex in general. I have no desire to watch this show after seeing this trailer. None whatsoever. I don't need to see guys rubbing on guys, orgies, you know, sleepover parties where everybody's naked. Like, this is what this trailer focused on. That and the f-word. It's like it's all it's what James Gunn knows. It's what he spews. I don't like his style and don't expect my channel to change and accept what they're doing. And what's disgusting also is that it has a 100% Rotten Tomato score as we speak. Now granted, only about 43 uh critics have watched it, but critics really don't matter. They never have. And it's pretty sad that Warner Brothers is making stuff for critics because it's clear that that's what they're doing at this stage. I find it appalling. It is not becoming of the DC name. It shouldn't have the DC label on it. It's disgusting. And I still say it is for the lowest common denominator. And I have seen some of the most disgusting comments from gun the gun shills this week. Like I've had to block an enormous amount of people. I'm not rude to people. I don't come out and attack people. I don't expect people to do it to me. And obviously they didn't take the message away from Superman. They can't comprehend the message of Superman because they're just the exact opposite of what that message was.
And so what we find out now is that James Gunn is moving full steam ahead with his Superman saga. And we're going to look at some stuff here today and I will give you my final thoughts at the end of the video. But let's take a look at what I have grabbed. All right, guys. First up, we have from DCPH. Superman's digital debut came as a surprise coming this Friday. And it says the shortest theatrical to digital release window for a DC film. Super Pets was 25 days. Joker 2 was 25 days. Shazam 2 was 32 days. The Flash was also 32 days and Black Adam was also 32 days. Superman is 35 days after its release. So this is pretty normal. And what's interesting about this is a lot of people were on the boards complaining about the price to buy it digitally or rent it digitally. And the price does come in at $29.99 to buy it digitally and $24.99 to rent it. And I could tell you that this is not unique to Superman. I am a movie guy. I buy a lot of physical media, movies, TV shows, stuff that's digital. I try to stay away from as much as possible unless that's the only way that I can get it, but you don't really own it. And I can tell you that this is a typical practice. It will remain at that price for approximately four to 6 weeks and then it will go to rent for between five and $8. Uh so this is pretty typical. It's not unique to Superman. I will tell you that this is Hollywood ruining its own business by doing this. It's a quick cash grab by the studio to try and take as much money as they can before interest wanes a little bit. But I could tell you that back the old model worked even better when it would not go to digital at all and you'd have to wait four to 6 months to get a DVD or Blu-ray release and you get the best of both worlds. But no, they want to try and cash in as quick as they can because this movie did not do well at all.
Now, this was pretty crazy. I announced this in my last video that James Gunn has officially announced the Superman saga. And first of all, I he's taking this off of the Batman saga. Again, James Gunn does not have an original bone in his body because Matt Reeves is calling his his universe the Batman saga. James Gunn has to come out and call his Superman the Superman saga. And it says the next project will hopefully go into production soon. Gunn has revealed that there is a 60-page treatment already for the film all planned out and that he has already begun writing the script and they know exactly what they're going to do with it. And here's what I'll tell you about this uh and why this is happening. One reason is James Gunn's contract is up in 2026. He is going to try to jam as many of his projects as he can into production as quickly as possible in an attempt to save his job. Although I think his job is pretty safe because you fail upwards at Warner Brothers. They tend to hire the failures. It's what they do. They like to run with it. And I don't understand it. It's not a good business model, but it's what they do. And the other reason is I am betting that he has stolen some of these ideas off of Now this is all conjecture on my point. I don't know this to be fact, but I'm guessing he stole some of these ideas from Superman and Lois, the final season that or the next season that never aired. There were reports that Brainiac was going to be in that and some other things. And I'm betting that he stole some of those ideas to come up with it so quickly. It's James Gunn's MO. He's been taken to court over stuff like this before. But since DC owns it and James Gunn is the head of the studio supposedly, and we're going to talk about that here in a little bit, he could do whatever he wants.
Also, Entertainment Weekly was talking to James Gunn about Margot Robbiey's potential return as Harley Quinn. James Gunn just revealed said well his quote was that will be revealed down the line. I am betting that she will be back. I know that Margot Robbie wanted to take a break and that's exactly what's happening right now, but I do fully expect that she will be back down the line.
Now, I thought this was interesting. It says it will no longer be canon. The final scene, the final scene of the first piece, if I can talk here, the final scene of the first season of Peacemaker reportedly will be fully edited and removed from the Justice League. Instead, we will see the Justice gang in Superman silhouette. And so, they ask, "What do you think?" Well, first of all, I don't think they should change it. It should be in there. But James Gunn is promising you're going to find out exactly what happened to the DC EU when you watch Peacemaker season 2, which I'm not going to watch. I have no interest in it. I think it's disgusting. And so it's it's pretty sad that he's putting all of this stuff into the show to try and get people to watch. It's a desperate attempt to get people to watch when these things should have been done during Superman or a project that is more mainstream because Peacemaker is not the hit they think it is.
So, here you go. During the Peacemaker season 2 premiere, James Gunn reveals he has he has finished writing the story treatment for the next chapter in the Superman saga. Gunn hopes to go into production very soon. Again, I already gave you reasons as to why this is happening and he's going full force and he's going to try to jump as jam as much stuff in there as he can before his contract is up.
Now, here is why James Gunn is talking about Superman releasing early. And I'm gonna I'm gonna talk about why I don't believe this. I think it's a flat-out lie. James Gunn says Superman is releasing on digital early so everyone can see the film before Peacemaker season 2. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control. So that Peacemaker is coming out now. And at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn't get to the theater before Peacemaker. Okay, here's why I don't believe this. Back in April, James Gunn himself did a post talking about how Peacemaker was going to come out in August. So, this isn't new. This isn't something that just came up. And when he says things are beyond his control, James Gunn has publicly made statements in the past that he is the head of the studio. He is the studio. He is in control. So, did he lie again? It's like everything that this says, this guy says, something else ends up happening. It's the weirdest thing. The best thing that the studio can do is put him behind the scenes. He is not the star that the studio thinks he is. He is not the face of everything. People are tired of James Gunn. They just are. Put him behind the scenes and nobody will bat an eye. He is not the hero that Warner Brothers is making him out to be. He is not the hero that the media is making him out to be.
Superman hasn't even made a profit yet. So yesterday Variety posted Superman is now nearing 600 million and is a smash hit for Warner Brothers. I would not call that a smash hit. They needed a blockbuster. If this movie made 800 million or more, then I'd say yes, they have a hit on their hands. But they don't. It's still almost a hundred million from profiting. So now you have the Suicide Squad and you have this movie. Both $100 million losers plus some probably close to 300 million between the two films. They're a loss for the studio, but yet they're still running with James Gunn because the critics like it.
Now this comes from Cosmic Book News. Estimates for James Gunn's Superman box office are being revised lower. Some are now saying the film will finish with a worldwide box office between 600 million and 620 million. That's well short of Batman 772.2 and Man of Steel 670 and Batman vs. Superman 874.3. And I told everybody at the beginning of this, and you can go back and watch my videos, I said it is not going to sell nearly as many tickets as Batman does. Batman is the number one person for DC. Everyone told me I was full of crap. Superman is the most popular character in the world. He's going to make a billion, two billion. I actually had people coming in telling me he was going to make a billion to two billion. And I told them they were nuts. There's no freaking way. I figured between 450 and 550 million. So it's making a little bit more than what I predicted. But that is a loss for the studio. And I always predicted it was going to be a loss for the studio. It just does not have the draw of Batman. And you replaced a very popular guy playing Superman for someone new when nobody asked for it.
So they posted this uh DC film news posted this today. the official clipboard for Supergirl flying into theaters June 26th of 2026 and it shows you know scene one take one and Craig Gillespie is the director and Craig Gillespie actually came out and said some interesting comments about the DCU here in a few minutes but keep in mind the only things we've seen so far are things from James Gunn like Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker season 2. We have yet to see a project from somebody else. Craig Gillespie is in the special feature for Superman and he says is James Gunn explained that each movie is in its own graphic novel. The Peacemaker gets to bring their own sensibility to it. But keep in mind so far we haven't seen anything from everybody anybody else. Uh I don't know if this is going to come out before the Lanterns show or not or Clayface, but if it is, this will be the first project that was done outside of James Gunn, which is pretty crazy. Like they have banked everything on James Gunn. And now we will see if this is going to be a hit or not.
So here was a post I did yesterday. I said, "All I know is Supergirl better break a billion next year. All the gunshot the interest back." So Peacemaker season 2 better be the most watched show ever. And Supergirl better break a billion. We are back. And I did a bunch of laughing faces because all we heard from the Gunn shills the whole time was that, you know, first of all, the movie was going to make a break a billion and then they came out and said it doesn't even need to make money. That all it needs to do is bring the interest back to DC. And now it didn't make the money and they are saying it brought the interest back, which blows my mind because you have half the audience. They're they're forging ahead with this. So if they are right, Supergirl better make more money than Superman. If if the interest is back, that movie better make bank because I will tell you when the DCU started after Man of Steel, every film after that made more money than than Man of Steel did because the interest was back. The interest was there. So this better follow suit. But again, you know, Warner Brothers likes failure. So, I wouldn't be surprised if it makes less than Superman and they still call it a success. Just watch. Get ready for it next summer.
All right, guys. So, there you have it. What do you think about James Gunn forging ahead with the Superman saga? What do you think about predictions that they're making about Supergirl beating Spider-Man next summer? I just find that ridiculous. The interest is not where they said it is. It is all a fabrication. It is all smoke and mirrors. And I'm going to continue guys. I'm going to continue to bring you guys the truth and talk about reality versus what they're claiming it is. They could do the best job they want at at throwing all this out there trying to make it a success when it's simply not. It's not.
All right, guys. There's my update for the day. I do appreciate the support. We will see you guys on the next.
