Who is nobody in Greek mythology? During Odysseus's journey back to Ithaca, he and his crew accidentally ended up in the land of the Cyclops, who were big, one-eyed giants. Polyphemus, a Cyclops, trapped them in a cave and ate two of Odysseus's men. Polyphemus planned to eat Odysseus next. To escape, Odysseus gives Polyphemus a strong wine that makes him fall asleep. When Polyphemus asked Odysseus for his name, Odysseus said, "Nobody." While Polyphemus was half asleep, he said, "Mr. Nobody, I like you so much that I'm going to do you a favor; I'll eat you last." Later, Odysseus and his men used a sharp, heated stick to blind Polyphemus. When Polyphemus screamed for help and other Cyclopes asked who hurt him, he said, "Nobody did it." This clever wordplay allows Odysseus and his crew to escape undetected, as the other Cyclopes believed that Polyphemus suffered from no one's attack.
