The future of medicine is frequency medicine. What does Einstein mean? As a physician, as a radiologist, I can tell you that this makes perfect sense. We don't use scalpels. We don't use prescriptions. We use a fundamental understanding of energy and physics to non-invasively dissect the human body like a loaf of bread, using an MRI or a CT scan.

Now, however, the deeper meaning of this vision, I only began to appreciate in my first year of medical practice. I was diagnosed with a heart condition and required open-heart surgery. It turned out that my heart was enlarged and when I returned to work soon after, I was appointed chief of our department. And I quickly realized that our entire system was outdated. And in fact, the way we studied and how we defined health and wellness was extremely narrow. I realized that something was fundamentally missing.

This sent me on a journey of exploration and deep research, looking at how other cultures approached health and wellness. I found myself traveling to India and I quickly realized that there was an entire discipline of science that we are not exposed to in the West in medical education model or otherwise. The science of the mind, the science of connection, how to feel a deep sense of connection to yourself, to others, perhaps something greater than ourselves. The science of consciousness. And because of my background in radiology, I quickly realized that the philosophies and the model that I was experiencing and learning were deeply rooted in science, and specifically physics.

And I recall this lightbulb moment, when I thought of Einstein, when he said, everything is energy. Now, we can all appreciate that. I mean, when you go to the doctor, as you know, we use a blood pressure cuff to measure blood pressure. An ECG measures the electrical current that runs through your heart. An EEG measures brain waves. We are energetic beings. Imagine you have close to 50 trillion cells. Every cell is made up of molecules, and molecules are made up of atoms. And atoms, my friends, are over 99.99999% empty space. Atoms are high-frequency vibrations of energy. And in fact, Nikola Tesla said, if you want to understand the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration. Even your thoughts are forms of energy. Our emotions, in fact, are also forms of energy. Now we can talk about love, but when you experience it, you know it. That lightness, that expansion that we might feel, that inclusiveness. However, when we feel stressed, and when we feel anxious, we feel trapped and constricted. We are hyper-focused on the issues at hand. These emotions, these energies are actually encoded in our heart rhythms. And we can identify these rhythms through what we call heart rate variability. Heart rate variability is a description of the full pulse intervals between each heartbeat. And it's constantly changing. But when you feel contentment, when you feel love and compassion, one of these energy-renewing emotions, your heart rhythms become very rhythmic and sinusoidal where the heart begins to accelerate and then eventually begins to decelerate. And then it will accelerate and decelerate. And what we're actually witnessing is the balance between the two arms of the autonomic nervous system, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic. These rhythms are transmitted from the heart to the brain. And they have a very deep and significant role because they impact how the brain functions. Think about times when you are extremely stressed. Perhaps you're preparing for a TED talk, perhaps you're about to take an exam. And that anxiety, that pressure on your mind goes blank. You don't even know what you know anymore. But imagine times when you are on fire. You're in the flow of life. That moment, that is coherence. And when that happens, your heart rhythms actually synchronize with your brain waves. And now you have what we call in physics, it's entrainment. Your heart rate and your heart rhythm and your brain waves begin to synchronize and they are phase-locked. And then they begin to feed each other. They grow in amplitude and power. This is very significant because it impacts the areas of the brain that are involved in the way we think, the way we behave, the way we perceive information, the ways we interact or respond to our environment or to others. And in fact, this coherence has been shown to be very powerful when it comes to improving mental health, particularly those who are most at risk, and in fact, implementing coherence programs in high schools. They also show dramatic improvement in test scores, particularly college readiness scores. Looking at math, there's a 73% increase in test scores. When children learn how to tap into their true nature, they have this energy.

Now, it's not just the brain that's impacted by the heart, but the entire body. Imagine going to the symphony tonight. We show up early. The musicians are warming up on stage. They're all playing their little piece. The conductor hasn't shown up yet. We'll sit in the audience, and we'll hear the most incoherent noise. We won't hear any music. But the moment the conductor shows up, wow! All the musicians are now synchronized and you hear this beautiful, coherent piece of music. The body is no different. In fact, the heart is the conductor, and every biological organ system we have are musicians in this beautiful symphony called you. And when that happens, just like the way the heart pulled the brain waves into synchronization and this entrainment, when you have the heart and the brain, it works to synchronize all the other organs. And then they all begin to feed each other and grow in power and amplitude. So imagine what we're saying now when you begin to vibrate with this optimal energy state, this energy frequency. So imagine now that your heart rhythms, your brain waves, your blood pressure, your breathing rhythms, and even the electrical potentials that run across your skin are all vibrating and synchronizing with each other. You might imagine that this would put you in the best state to heal and to thrive. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, perhaps many of you have heard of him, the godfather of mindfulness-based stress reduction. His research has shown that when patients with psoriasis and inflammatory skin conditions learn how to use their minds like muscles, they heal four times faster. Four times. And in fact, a research paper showed that over 5,700 people, those with the highest self-regulation skills were 50 times more likely to survive over 15 years without chronic disease. This is a game-changer when it comes to medicine. And as a physician, this is extremely, extremely exciting. Dr. Sara Lazar from Harvard has identified that the mind works like a muscle. The more you practice techniques that build coherence, the easier it becomes. The more the effects, the greater the resulting relaxation effect and the easier it becomes to practice. And in fact, just like your muscles will change in structure and appearance, you know, for a month or two when you go to the gym, your brain changes structurally. And this research now shows us that we have this capacity for self-regulation. And when you practice enough, your body will change physically. Parts of the brain like the amygdala and less developed parts of the brain shrink. However, we know that the prefrontal cortex, it actually expands, it becomes thicker. Identifying this capacity that we have is like technology that we can all access at any moment.

Here is a graph of a police officer in training hooked up to a heart monitor. And essentially you can see that at 11:40, the police officer encounters an angry individual. The fight or flight situation kicks in. His heart rate jumps to 180 beats per minute. He's tachycardic. After the scenario, you notice how his heart rate drops, but it remains elevated at about 100 beats per minute. This is still an elevated heart rate. This is still causing tachycardia. The trauma is not just in one moment, the trauma is residual within the body. And if you notice how at about 11:54, the officer is asked to flex his mental muscles and build this coherence and look at what happens. His heart rate immediately drops to baseline. And what's really interesting is that all these effects of the heart, not only improving brain function or mental health, they don't just improve our state for thriving and healing, but it turns out that your energy extends beyond the physical boundaries of your body. Your heart is the largest bio-energetic source. An electrocardiogram is literally you're looking at how electricity, you know, the currents that run through your heart. Well, physics 101 says anything that electricity passes through it also creates a magnetic field. Each one of us has an energy field around us that's about 3 to 4 feet in diameter. Just like your heart can pull your brain waves into this beautiful state of entrainment and it can pull all of your organ systems into entrainment to synchronize and grow in amplitude, you can draw others into coherence. Imagine what I'm saying now. This is not just about you. Your thoughts, your intentions, your state impacts everyone around you. And in fact, in this graph, you can see that this was actually captured with two people sitting four feet apart, both wearing heart monitors. And you can clearly see that both of them were asked to cultivate a sense of compassion and kindness not only for themselves, but for this other person, look at what happens. They cultivate a coherent state and their heart rhythms synchronize with each other. Now, this is huge in medicine, okay? Scientists at Haifa University identified that when you create this physiological coupling, your pain perception can drop by over 50%. Okay. In fact, the Journal of the American Medical Association identified in a randomized controlled trial that patients who receive just one pre-operative visit to create a state of compassionate connection leads to a 50% reduction in post-operative opioid use and a statistically significant reduction in lengths of stay in post-operative complications. Even CEOs of organizations and companies, they're starting to catch on. When you equip people with the tools so that they can self-regulate and access their peak potential and now you bring them together as a team, you create a very engaging, productive, and coherent environment. In fact, research shows that productivity increases, creative problem-solving increases, and healthcare costs decrease. Everything you can imagine when every individual on your team is now operating in this optimal mental and physiological state. Why is our biology and our energies designed in such a way that they are so interconnected that we impact each other on this subconscious level? Now to answer that, think about what Da Vinci once said, "Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else." Now, when working with physicians and organizations, I offer them a lens to see the world through. And this lens is actually geometry. Can you notice that Einstein is staring at the axis - the axis called vector balance? This is the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Buckminsterfullerene, and it represents the most balanced energy system in terms of energy that we know of. And in this graph, it represents all of Western science and technology. On the other hand, the Dalai Lama is staring at the background of a lotus flower. This is an ancient symbol that has always represented the science of connection, the science of consciousness. Can you notice how these two diagrams flow into each other? They occupy the same space. There is a fundamental mathematical ratio that they both share. And now, you will begin to realize that every flower, every fruit, every leaf, everything from Mother Nature dances to the same rhythm. It flows to the exact same rhythm. We call this the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio and sacred geometry. To be honest with you, I don't care what you call it. I'm a radiologist, and I'm more concerned that you learn how to recognize it. Because once you begin to recognize it in Mother Nature, you also begin to recognize it within yourself. As a radiologist, I teach medical students, and I can tell you that every aspect of our physical being dances to this rhythm. Every part. And it's important to realize that, because starting from the spiraling arms of the galaxy all the way down to our DNA, this frequency, this energy, this rhythm permeates and spreads everywhere. It connects us all. And when you integrate this awareness with the fact that we are all genetically 99.9% identical, that creates a new framework for how we understand ourselves and our relationships with each other. And it's the key. It's fundamental not only to our health and mental well-being, but it's the key to processing what Einstein said was the greatest illusion – separation. We are unfortunately in a state of great confusion. We don't recognize ourselves. You realize, well, certainly, that life can be a cell culture in a petri dish, or it can be a superhero being called a human, or perhaps another superhero being called Earth. When we begin to understand these perspectives, this sense of connection becomes palpable. And in fact, it helps us reframe. It's not about you versus me. It's about when we help each other and each other, we help ourselves. Because we now have technology that is accessible and free and easy to use, that can literally track and measure your coherence in real-time through your phone, for free! Imagine that you can measure your coherence, you can track your progress over time, and we can now measure our collective coherence. When we come together to practice techniques, we are now training not only for our own self-care, but we are now training with the love of common humanity in mind because we are so interconnected. So I encourage all of you to get online, find a friend, join a group, join a challenge, and start practicing. Even if it's for five minutes a day, I guarantee you you don't have to listen to me or listen to critics. I guarantee you, if you take five minutes and you begin to listen to your true nature, you will feel something. And if you commit to it with intention, I guarantee you it is undoubtedly changing, you are changing your biochemistry, your neurophysiology, the way we think, we process information, your resilience. It's incredible. Thank you so much. (Applause)
