Marvel's Spider-Man - The Story So Far (What You Need to Know to Play Marvel's Spider-Man 2!)

With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 right around the corner, I, Suggestive Gaming, thought it would be a good time to take a look through the story so far. While the new installment is only the second mainline entry into this series, the first game got a plethora of DLC, a standalone expansion, two tie-in novels, and of course, a couple of comics as well. I’m also going to go over several of the games’ various side-mission plots as well, since I suspect we’ll see some of them continue in the sequel or its inevitable DLCs. Do note that anything I cover outside of the video games can always be contradicted later, so consider those soft-canon.

One comic I won’t be covering in detail is called “Spider-Geddon,” which is a multiverse story featuring the Spider-Man from the video-games’ universe. Given the nature of this story, as well as the fact that it doesn’t really tie back into the story of the games, I’ll be leaving that one out for simplicity. Now, without further ado, this is What You Need to Know about Marvel’s Spider-Man, the video game.

Our story begins in April of 2018, where we find 23-year-old Peter Parker, who had been bitten by a radioactive spider 8 years prior, giving him superhuman abilities akin to an arachnid. Peter, taking the masked identity of “Spider-Man,” uses his powers to fight crime in New York City when not working his day job at a laboratory or spending time with his girlfriend, journalist Mary Jane Watson.

One night, Spider-Man sees a pet store getting robbed, and puts a stop to it. The perpetrator, a man named Andy, admits that he was set up by his brother, who wanted him out of his hair while he did work for the “Scorpion.” Andy states that Scorpion, real name MacDonald Gargan (a “super-villain” in a mechanical, scorpion-based suit), is using a construction site as a base of operations. Spider-Man leaves Andy behind to investigate the construction site, warning him to stay out of trouble and suggesting that he volunteer at a nearby homeless shelter called F.E.A.S.T.

After fighting through some of Scorpion’s henchmen, Spider-Man is met by a man dressed in all black. The Man in Black surprisingly mimics Spider-Man’s own moves and style, matching his skills in combat. While the Man in Black almost defeats Spider-Man in a fight, he swiftly disappears, leaving the confused superhero to return to Andy to question him about the ambush. When he returns, however, Spider-Man is shocked to find the police in Andy’s last position, investigating his murder.

While Spider-Man tries to figure out the bigger picture of the night’s events, he is held at gunpoint by NYPD Lieutenant Yuri Watanabe and questioned. Spider-Man agrees to cooperate, and the pair meet in the Terminal Security Office to speak in private. There, Yuri shows Spider-Man security footage of Andy speaking with him before he left. Shortly after, however, “Spider-Man” reappears on the footage, pulls out a pistol, and kills Andy. Spider-Man immediately realizes that this must be the Man in Black who mimicked his movements, and he points out some inconsistencies in the imposter’s suit, leading Yuri to agree.

When Spider-Man brings up potential security footage at the construction site, Yuri reveals that it’s owned by none other than Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin of Crime. Earlier in his career as Spider-Man, Peter had thwarted Fisk’s operations, gathering enough evidence on the crime lord to get him sent to prison for life. After his lawyers put a spin on the story, however, blame was placed on Spider-Man, and evidence “disappeared,” allowing Fisk to walk free. Shortly after leaving the courthouse, Fisk fled the country, and the city was free of his criminal activity for several years.

That is, until a year prior, when Fisk returned and started to buy up several real estate properties in impoverished neighborhoods to garner public favor by giving back to the community. Behind the scenes, however, Fisk was simply back to his old ways, dealing in the criminal underworld. Yuri believes that Fisk is likely behind the events of the night, trying to get revenge on Spider-Man for almost putting him away seven years prior. She offers to work with Spider-Man secretly to bring him down for good, and the web-slinger agrees, happy to finally have a “partner” on the inside.

Peter gets back to his apartment and takes off his suit, not noticing that the Man in Black had placed some kind of tracking device on his skin. He tries to call MJ, but he can’t get a hold of her. He decides to visit their mutual friend, Harry Osborn, son of millionaire and New York City Mayor Norman Osborn, before Harry’s upcoming trip to Europe. Harry admits that he knows where MJ is: in Hell’s Kitchen, working on a piece for the Daily Bugle newspaper. Peter visits her, and while MJ’s article seems to be a puff piece for Fisk’s recent “noble” work, she tells him that she’s secretly hoping her investigation will turn up proof of his misdoings. While Peter urges her not to put herself in danger, he eventually agrees to let her follow her dream of becoming an investigative reporter. As they talk, however, the pair are mugged at knifepoint. The would-be-criminal is swiftly taken down, not by Spider-Man, but instead by Mary Jane, showing Peter that she can take care of herself.

Meanwhile, a Deaf woman named Maya Lopez has developed her own “super-power,” the ability to learn and mirror the every move of potential opponents. Maya was adopted by Wilson Fisk as a child, after her father was murdered by someone who she believed was Spider-Man, but in reality was Fisk himself (who has kept this fact a secret from her for all these years). Maya secretly watches Fisk through a surveillance camera, seeing him viewing a recording of Spider-Man fighting the Man in Black at the construction site. Maya bursts into Fisk’s office to ask him about this, and he tells her that the enigmatic figure is a man named Michael Bingham, who Fisk claims that he had trained to distract Spider-Man while they work on bigger things. Fisk agrees to give Maya his documents on Bingham, so long as she leaves him and Spider-Man alone for the time being.

Peter, meanwhile, is having problems balancing his day and night “jobs,” getting scolded by one of his superiors in the lab before being introduced to a new undergrad student named Anika Adhikari. Peter bonds with Anika, showing her around the lab, and grows a bit fond of her right off the bat. Around the same time, MJ goes to the Daily Bugle to meet with editor-in-chief, Robbie Robertson. While waiting, she chats with another Bugle employee named Betty Brant about her relationship with Peter (who used to contribute photos of Spider-Man to the paper). When Robertson speaks with MJ, he offers her a job as a features writer, offering her a foot in the door but stressing that she needs to work up the ranks before she can tackle a hard news story like Wilson Fisk.

Later, Maya sits upon a rooftop to watch Michael Bingham’s apartment in hopes to learn more about Fisk’s plans with him. She watches Bingham climb out of his window dressed as Spider-Man, noting the inconsistencies in his costume as well. As he swings off with his own web-shooters (in the design of Spider-Man’s), Maya gives chase. He eventually stops at a fancy wine bar and attacks an innocent panhandler before swinging off once again, terrifying the bar’s patrons. Maya watches Bingham returning back to his apartment, wondering what the point of his actions were. Hoping to learn more, Maya decides to take the direct approach and knocks on Bingham’s door. He meets her with hostility, pulling her into his apartment and attacking her. After a quick scuffle, Maya reveals her connection with Fisk, stopping his assault. Bingham explains that he's simply a contractor for Fisk, stressing all of his various abilities to her. Strangely, Bingham doesn’t admit to imitating Spider-Man, instead claiming that he is Spider-Man. Bingham then shows her a photo of Spider-Man from the Daily Bugle, claiming it to be him before kicking her out. As Maya leaves, she wonders why Fisk would trust someone so unpredictable, but still intends to learn more about whatever plans he is hiding from her.

Peter meets with MJ, who wants to talk to him about something, but they’re interrupted when he gets a call from Yuri asking him to meet her at once. Unbeknownst to Peter, Bingham follows his movements via the tracker. When Spider-Man meets with Yuri, she tasks him with breaking into Fisk Tower to copy a document a mole of hers left out without leaving a trace. Spider-Man agrees and sets about completing the task, getting a voicemail from Anika as he infiltrates the building and takes photos of the document. As he leaves, Spider-Man overhears Fisk and decides to investigate. Spider-Man then eavesdrops on a conversation between Fisk and Maya, arguing about her wanting to move on attacking him. Spider-Man then returns to Yuri, giving her the copy of the document, as well as informing her about the conversation. Meanwhile, Maya discovers webbing in Fisk Tower, and knows she must do something, and soon.

Later, Peter meets with his Aunt May at F.E.A.S.T., where she works tirelessly to help the less fortunate. There, she introduces Peter to Martin Li, F.E.A.S.T.’s founder and owner, whom May refers to as the Anti-Wilson Fisk, set on actually helping the city that gave him the opportunities to succeed. Peter then meets up with Harry again, and the pair are joined by Harry’s father, Norman. While Norman tries to recruit Peter to work at his company, Oscorp, Peter politely declines. Peter returns to work at the lab and confides in Anika about his current stresses (at least somewhat), and she gives him some advice to focus on what he wants to do with his life. Peter then weighs out whether or not he wants to continue being Spider-Man, deciding that he can’t make that decision until he takes down Fisk.

Meanwhile, Maya confronts Fisk about Spider-Man infiltrating his tower, but he brushes it off. The pair are shockingly met by Mary Jane Watson, there for an interview about his foundation. Maya leaves MJ with Fisk to secretly meet with J. Jonah Jameson, the former editor of the Daily Bugle. Jameson, ousted from the Bugle for his extreme views (especially regarding Spider-Man, who he believes to be a menace), is offered a new outlet by Maya: his own radio broadcast, bankrolled anonymously by Fisk’s company, hoping this will be a thorn in Spider-Man’s side. While MJ’s interview with Fisk is fairly uneventful, Peter still disagrees with her decision to approach the crime lord. This leads to an argument between the two about MJ’s ability to make her own decisions, and Anika eavesdrops on his side of the phone call. After, Anika secretly follows Peter to hopefully learn more about him and his relationship.

Meeting at a sandwich shop, MJ speaks with Peter about something serious, but they’re interrupted when Peter notices some police officers running off, and he goes to join them under his Spider-Man persona. Anika watches on in confusion. Spider-Man follows the officers, meeting one named Jefferson Davis, who tells him about an ongoing hostage situation in an auction house. Spider-Man sneaks inside, only to find it completely empty; no hostages or hostage takers. He calls Yuri, and the pair determine that the hostage call must have been a decoy.

Back at the sandwich shop, a costumed supervillain equipped with a shock wave-producing device called the “Shocker” attacks. Suddenly, “Spider-Man” appears, although it is actually Bingham. Anika films the encounter on her phone, as this Spider-Man proclaims that he doesn’t care about the safety of civilians as long as he apprehends the Shocker. Suddenly, this Spider-Man and the Shocker run off, and a bomb in the sandwich shop goes off, killing many of the patrons, including Anika. MJ calls the real Spider-Man to inform him of the event, and to tell him that she’s alright. A confused Spider-Man investigates, as J. Jonah Jameson appears on the screens of Times Square, blaming the masked hero for the events. When he gets to the shop to try to help, he sees Anika’s body being wheeled off. The crowd hurls insults at him, and the police attempt to take him in. Spider-Man escapes and returns to Yuri, where the Lieutenant deduces that Fisk and his fake Spider-Man are behind the event, although their motive is unknown. Unbeknownst to them, Bingham watches their conversation.

Two weeks later, Fisk scolds Bingham for his rash actions, but (much to Maya’s surprise) the Kingpin is left speechless as Bingham talks back to the man and declines to inform him of his next move. Meanwhile, Spider-Man collects data on Fisk for Yuri, while searching for the Shocker as well. Spider-Man eventually finds the supervillain in his plainclothes, who admits that his costume was stolen a month ago by a man dressed in all black, who also apparently hacked his website. Spider-Man traces the IP address of the hacker to an apartment and heads there, finding a man in Shocker’s suit, imitating the villain. Spider-Man apprehends the man, who reveals that he was an actor hired by the man responsible for the restaurant bombing.

Mary Jane interviews Fisk again and learns that he’s hired a private military company called Roxxon Blackridge, and she calls to inform Peter, who decides to investigate them. Maya spots Spider-Man outside Fisk Tower, and decides to don her own alter ego, “Echo,” to confront him. Echo and Spider-Man fight, with the woman mimicking his fighting style as well. While Echo almost bests him in combat, Spider-Man is able to brush her off and continue his investigation.

Peter meets with MJ the next day, and she recognizes a photo he took of Echo as Fisk employee Maya Lopez. MJ offers to help him investigate Fisk, but Peter again stresses that he’s too dangerous for her to go after. A week later, the couple spend an evening with Harry Osborn on his last night before leaving for Europe. Unbeknownst to them, at the same time, Harry’s father Norman Osborn is meeting in secret with Wilson Fisk. Fisk offers Norman a partnership to improve his standing as Mayor in the public eye, and Osborn hands the Kingpin a list of requirements for their deal.

Sometime later, Peter and MJ research a woman who Peter saw the Roxxon operatives tailing, named Laura Remzi. They learn that her brother is an assistant district attorney, determining him to be who Fisk must truly be after. They also learn about Maya’s past, as well as her deafness. Remzi’s brother is then killed by the impostor Spider-Man, framing the hero for his death.

A few weeks later, Spider-Man and Yuri discover that Osborn intends to appoint Fisk as the new commissioner of finance for the city: something they intend to stop. They then learn that Tombstone, a rival crime boss with superhuman strength, plans to attack Fisk at a fundraiser and endanger civilians. This tip turns out to be a set-up, however, as the attackers turn out to be disguised as police officers, and they open fire on Spider-Man, claiming he’s attacking them. This event causes Yuri to distance herself from Spider-Man for the time being, asking him to stay away from Fisk as well, urging the hero to focus on finding the impostor instead. MJ and Peter’s relationship also takes a final hit from his overbearing nature, and she finds it best to break up with him.

While Peter is at his lowest point, he still patrols as Spider-Man, fighting Scorpion and Electro (a supervillain with the ability to absorb and control electricity) once again, sending them off to the super-maximum security prison called the “Raft.” A few weeks after their breakup, MJ stops by Peter’s apartment and gives him a pep talk to get him motivated to continue his fight to take down Fisk. Knowing MJ is his only ally left, he works with her to figure out how to get Maya Lopez on his side. Knowing Maya couldn’t miss an opportunity to settle her unfinished business with him, Spider-Man offers her a chance to meet. Spider-Man lifts his mask to expose his mouth so Maya can read his lips, and attempts to speak with her. While she tries to fight him, he refuses to counterattack, simply stressing that he needs to talk to her. Spider-Man reveals to her that he didn’t kill her father, giving her the real police file of his murder. Maya then realizes that it was Fisk who killed her father. Maya then offers to help Spider-Man take Fisk down and avenge her father’s death.

The pair determine their best course of action would be to steal Fisk’s file of blackmail so he’ll no longer have leverage over Osborn. Maya and Spider-Man go to Fisk Tower and open his safe, but find it completely empty. They turn to find the Kingpin before them, and Bingham arrives in tow, referring to himself as the “Blood Spider.” Spider-Man and Echo then fight Blood Spider and the Kingpin momentarily and are forced to flee. Bingham then reveals to Fisk that it was he who actually stole the contents of the safe, as he was secretly working for Osborn all along. Osborn, who used Bingham as a lab rat to test a medication to cure an unknown disease, instead found that the serum gave the man his uncanny abilities. Fisk reluctantly agrees to work with Bingham, who intends to betray Osborn and answer to no one else.

Spider-Man and Maya, as Echo, then launch their final attack on Fisk and Bingham, hoping to retrieve the blackmail files. Spider-Man interrupts Mayor Osborn’s ceremony to appoint Fisk as the commissioner of finance and goads Bingham out of the shadows, revealing to the public that there was in fact an impostor. Spider-Man fights Blood Spider, as Echo cleverly steals the flash drive of blackmail from him. As she attempts to escape, however, Echo is stopped by Fisk. Knowing that the data would be safer destroyed than in his hands, she crushes the drive under her boot. The police intervene, and Echo is able to escape from the Kingpin. Meanwhile, Spider-Man finally defeats Blood Spider, and Michael Bingham is taken into custody.

After these events, Maya decides to return to Montana, where her father was from, to learn more about him. Spider-Man, on the other hand, continues his plot to take down Fisk, and Maya leaves him a parting gift of a file of information on the Kingpin. Spider-Man hands it over to Yuri, who gets promoted to Captain. Maya’s files then finally lead to a warrant at Fisk Tower.

Now in October of 2018, the police execute the warrant on Fisk Tower, and Spider-Man overhears it and joins in. After taking down some of Fisk’s men in Times Square attempting to stop the police, Spider-Man meets Yuri at Fisk Tower before heading inside. Spider-Man assists Yuri’s officers as he searches for Fisk, but soon learns that some of them are on the Kingpin’s payroll. After fighting through Fisk’s men, Spider-Man finally comes face-to-face with the giant man. The two fight hand-to-hand, and while Spider-Man (and his suit) take a good amount of damage in the process, the hero is able to finally apprehend the Kingpin of Crime, and he’s taken off by the NYPD to the Raft.

Peter then returns to work, where he finds his boss, Dr. Otto Octavius, working on mechanical prosthetic limbs with a neural interface, allowing them to be controlled like the real thing. Otto’s latest prototype fails, just as the committee board funding them arrives to review. While this damages their trust in his abilities, he stresses that progress is being made.

Spider-Man is then tasked by Yuri to fix some advanced police surveillance towers, giving him the ability to know when every crime is being committed in the city. This turns Spider-Man into a damn cop, and it sucks. After fighting some crime, Peter returns to the lab and tries to repair his suit, but is interrupted when Otto arrives unexpectedly. Otto sees the suit and assumes that Peter is the one who makes Spider-Man’s gadgets: a misconception Peter doesn’t correct. Peter crashes at the lab, and when he awakens, he finds that Otto had not only helped finish repairing the suit, but made some improvements as well, giving Peter a new, Advanced Spider-Suit.

Spider-Man learns of (and takes down) more Fisk construction sites before heading to F.E.A.S.T. to help Martin Li prepare for a surprise party to celebrate his Aunt May’s fifth anniversary at the shelter. Meanwhile, Mary Jane Watson continues her own reporting on Fisk’s wrongdoings. Under the guise of reporting on his estate sale in the wake of his arrest, MJ goes to the art gallery holding his collection of ancient Chinese relics. While investigating, MJ sneaks into the office of the auction house’s owner and finds a statue that Fisk reportedly used to hide evidence. MJ figures out how to open a secret compartment in the statue, finding a file on Norman Osborn and something called “Devil’s Breath.” Suddenly, a group of men in Chinese-style demon masks attack the auction house, triggering a silent alarm, which alerts Spider-Man. As they search for the file, MJ hides and Spider-Man arrives on scene. He finds MJ, and the pair talk to each other for the first time in months before she shows him the file. Spider-Man starts to clear out the henchmen, but they find MJ. One of them runs off with the file, leaving Spider-Man to defeat the rest. After the battle, he takes one of their masks to hopefully learn more about the group.

Peter and MJ then agree to meet at Mick's Diner for dinner to catch up. Just as the topic changes to their relationship, Peter hears sirens and rushes off, leaving MJ behind in the diner, where Mick expresses that he’s happy to see the two together again, as they were always his favorites.

Peter follows the sirens to the Shocker, the real one this time, and follows him through the city, determining that the villain is stealing money for someone else. Spider-Man apprehends the Shocker, but he won’t reveal who he’s working for. Peter goes to F.E.A.S.T. to ask Martin Li about the mask he found. Li, an art history graduate, reveals that it’s a replica of an antique Chinese opera mask. On the inside of the mask is a symbol that translates to “Demon.” Li then warns Peter that the mask may be connected to some dangerous people.

Shortly after, Otto’s operation is shut down by the city, and Mayor Norman Osborn arrives to gloat. Osborn, a former colleague of Octavius’, cites safety concerns as the reason for the lab closure, sending Otto’s volunteers and research to his own Oscorp Robotics. Norman tries to force Otto to continue his research at Oscorp, but he refuses. Later, the Shocker turns up again, out of jail and robbing a bank. Spider-Man thwarts his plan once again, and after a long battle, Spider-Man brings him down, sending him to the Raft this time. While he still isn’t able to get the name of who the Shocker is working for, Spider-Man assumes that it’s whoever is behind the Demon Gang, whose numbers are quickly increasing.

The Demons begin to go after Fisk’s properties, and Spider-Man meets Officer Jefferson Davis at a nearby shipyard property. After clearing out Fisk’s men, Spider-Man and Officer Davis investigate the warehouse to find several caches of weapons, although they are all empty. Spider-Man spots a group of Demons stealing the weapons and follows their trucks, stopping one as Officer Davis crashes a squad car into the other. MJ arrives on the scene after and interviews Davis as he’s given medical care, reporting on the Demon Gang. Afterwards, Peter returns to his apartment to find that he’s been evicted, with all of his belongings emptied out and disposed of. He calls the sanitation department, and a friendly worker named Eddie helps him track down the garbage truck to at least recover a drive full of his research into new Spider-Gadgets.

While Peter contemplates asking MJ to crash on her couch, he gets a message from another ex-girlfriend of his: Felicia Hardy, also known as the notorious cat burglar appropriately named the Black Cat. While Peter thought Felicia had given up her old ways, he finds various RFID devices around the city which he believes she is using to harvest signals to break into various locations. Spider-Man reports these to Yuri, who takes them back to the station. Unwittingly, however, he plays right into Felicia’s plan, as these devices end up disabling security at the station, allowing her to retrieve her confiscated suit and equipment. As a “thanks,” however, she does leave him a new suit of his own, of her creation.

Peter gets a call from Aunt May, who suggests he sleep on the couch in her office at F.E.A.S.T., and he does so. The next morning, she gives him some cash to get by, and Martin Li stops by to let May know that he’ll be leaving town for an unknown amount of time. As Peter leaves, he learns from MJ that Mayor Osborn is going to honor Officer Jefferson Davis with an award at his campaign rally later that day. Davis calls Spider-Man and informs him about the Demons hitting another Fisk construction site, and the hero goes there and starts to clean up the gang members. He takes one of Fisk’s men’s cell phone and answers a call from the incarcerated Kingpin, who offers to give up the name of the Demon Gang’s leader if the web-slinger keeps his men alive. Spider-Man rescues Fisk’s endangered men and stops a helicopter transporting some Demons. Officer Davis’s son, teenager Miles Morales, watches Spider-Man apprehend the Demons before making his way to City Hall to watch his father’s commemoration.

At the event, Jefferson speaks with his wife, Rio Morales, about his nerves, but she and their son calm him. Peter and MJ watch the ceremony commence, agreeing to meet at her place for dinner to discuss the ongoing gang war. Norman introduces Officer Davis, but is then called away for an urgent call. As Officer Davis gives his speech, Norman is threatened by an unknown party over the phone, who only wishes to see the Mayor suffer. Suddenly, several Demon Gang members show up, and the deputy Mayor turns into a photo-negative version of himself (much like the “negative energy” the demons harness) and reveals a vest of explosives. Jefferson Davis then sacrifices himself to push the bomber away from the others on stage. Peter is knocked out during the ensuing chaos, and is carried to safety by MJ, while Rio carries Miles away as well. Miles then climbs through the debris to find his mother, trapped under some scaffolding, and he helps an EMT free her. Miles goes to check on his father, but arrives only to find more Demons pulling up. He sneaks past them to reach the podium, but is stopped by an attacking Demon. Just before the Demon delivers a final blow to Miles, he’s stopped by the gang’s leader, who is shockingly revealed to be none other than Martin Li, who harnesses this negative power himself, under the guise of “Mister Negative.” Miles finds his father, but he is unfortunately too late, as the heroic officer had passed in the blast.

A funeral is held for Jefferson a week later, and Norman attends. Also in attendance is Peter Parker, who introduces himself to the grieving Miles. When Yuri doesn’t believe Spider-Man that Martin Li could be behind the attack, he and MJ are forced to find proof themselves. Spider-Man investigates a recycling center owned by Li and finds the weapons stolen from Fisk’s caches. He also finds a map detailing where the Demons plan to use these weapons to attack, and all of the locations are Osborn campaign offices. Spider-Man follows an address to a company called “Consolidated Shipping,” which he believes is their staging area. There, he finds more of their locations, as well as details about them armoring up a vehicle at a garage called “Pale Horse Ridez,” seemingly preparing for an attack. Spider-Man exits Consolidated Shipping to find a group of heavily armed soldiers taking down the remaining Demons in the area. They corner him, and their commander, Silver Sablinova, head of a private security force called “Sable International,” restrains him. Yuri arrives and has her release him before introducing the two, and Yuri reveals that Sable was hired by Mayor Osborn and given full authority to protect the city from the Demons.

Peter goes to F.E.A.S.T. to investigate Li’s office. While he’s there, he meets with his Aunt May to suggest that she reach out to Miles Morales to see if volunteering at the shelter would help keep his mind off of things. Peter sneaks into Li’s office, and finds a secret room containing the file on “Devil’s Breath” that MJ originally found at the auction house. Peter leaves the office with the file and is surprised to find Martin Li himself, returning to “grab some things from his office.” He tells Peter that he and his Aunt will be safe so long as he stays out of places he shouldn’t be, before disappearing again. Peter tries to follow him, but is attacked by several homeless people that Li corrupted with his negative energy on the way out.

Peter gets a call from Dr. Octavius telling him he has big news at the lab, and when Peter arrives, he sees it. Otto then shows Peter his new plan: to not just create prosthetics to restore people’s abilities, but to make them even stronger. As he tries to show this off, however, he begins to shake, causing his demonstration to fail. After Otto curses Norman Osborn, Peter asks how they know each other. Otto reveals that they were lab partners before starting Oscorp together, until a disagreement caused Otto to leave. Peter repairs the prototype, and agrees to help Otto develop the neural interface, despite the lack of funding.

Meanwhile, MJ goes to the address of Pale Horse Ridez, finding it under operation by Tombstone, who is building some kind of large, armored vehicle. In Tombstone’s office, MJ finds GPS trackers, and returns to her apartment. Later, Peter meets her there for dinner, and she tells him what she found, giving him one of the GPS trackers. Peter then gives MJ the Devil’s Breath file. Suddenly, Peter’s crime tracker goes off, informing him of a break-in at the penthouse of Oscorp CFO, Charles Standish. Peter changes into his suit and rushes off, fighting his way through attacking Demons to reach the penthouse. Spider-Man rescues Standish from the Demons, learning that they were after Oscorp financial records pertaining to Devil’s Breath, which even Standish isn’t privy to knowing about. Through the payroll information, the Demons were able to learn about a Doctor Isaac Delaney who is assigned to the project. The Demons then shoot up the penthouse, and Spider-Man is forced to rescue Standish before Sable forces arrive to take over.

As MJ looks up information about Delaney, Spider-Man gets a call from Yuri informing him about a mysterious box on a roof. This box, along with many others around the city, was planted by a mercenary called the “Taskmaster.” Taskmaster’s boxes contain trials for Spider-Man to complete, and while he watches the web-slinger complete them, he studies his moves and skills. Soon, Taskmaster fights Spider-Man hand-to-hand, and reveals that he was hired by a secret organization in order to judge whether he is worthy of recruitment. Before he can reveal more, the Taskmaster vanishes.

MJ finds out that Delaney is at a costume party, and Spider-Man crashes it to search for the doctor. After dealing with several other party-goers dressed as various Spider-Man nemeses, Spider-Man finds Delaney, but unfortunately the Demons reach him first, and carry the doctor away. Spider-Man follows and watches them bring Dr. Delaney before Martin Li. Li suddenly turns “negative” and demands a name from Delaney. When the doctor doesn’t respond, Li corrupts him with his negative energy. Spider-Man tries to put a stop to these events, but Li holds him off with a blast of negative energy. The corrupted Dr. Delaney gives him the name “Dr. Morgan Michaels” before Li forces him to put a gun to his own head. Spider-Man is unable to stop the doctor from pulling the trigger as Li escapes. Spider-Man follows him back out to the party, where he has begun corrupting all of the attendees. After peacefully subduing them, Sable arrives to clean up. Spider-Man calls Yuri and has her search for Dr. Michaels, and she learns that Sable has him at an undisclosed safehouse.

MJ discovers that Norman Osborn had hired Fisk to construct the secret lab for the Devil’s Breath project, and Spider-Man decides to break into the mayor’s office at Oscorp to hopefully learn more. Inside Norman’s office, Spider-Man learns that Devil’s Breath, officially called “Project GR-27,” deals with AI-controlled genome editing with the goal to potentially cure any genetic disease. While the project yielded consistent results, it unfortunately also attacked test subjects’ immune systems, resulting in a 100% death rate. Furthermore, it also rendered the subject highly contagious, giving it the nickname “Devil’s Breath” due to its catastrophic potential of a massive outbreak. Spider-Man then learns that due to its extremely volatile nature, Dr. Michaels carries the only sample of Devil’s Breath on his person at all times.

MJ decides the best way to find Michaels would be by questioning Charles Standish, who is currently being held within a Sable compound in Central Park. She sneaks into the compound and finds Standish, but he believes that Li sent her and holds her at gunpoint. She shows him her press badge, and he reveals that Sable has Michaels at a safehouse in the Bowery, but they’ll be moving him at noon the following day. He also tells her that the Demons are planning something at Grand Central Station. Spider-Man then arrives, believing MJ to be in danger, but simply startles Standish, who yells out. He then zips a very frustrated MJ to safety as Sable units arrive to investigate.

Peter returns to Octavius’s lab for a test of the neural interface. Otto places a machine on his head, and is able to successfully control two prosthetic arms as if they were his own, only stronger and faster. When the doctor needs assistance taking it off, Peter recognizes something is wrong. Otto then reveals that he has a degenerative neurological disorder, which affects his muscles and will likely soon lead to him losing more of his motor function. Regardless, Peter agrees to stick around and work for him. Peter hears from May that Miles agreed to work at F.E.A.S.T. after urging from his mother, and Peter agrees to meet him there for his first day. On Miles’ way, however, he is mugged by several masked men, and Spider-Man rescues him. Before he leaves, Spider-Man gives the teen a quick lesson in defending himself. Miles sneaks his way through a Sable checkpoint to get to F.E.A.S.T. to start his first day. Peter shows Miles around and helps him before handing him off to May.

Peter suits back up and heads to the Bowery to ensure that Michaels gets to his new safehouse without any issues from the Demons. As Michaels gets into his Sable transport with the Devil’s Breath sample, however, the large armored vehicle that Tombstone had built for the Demons comes barreling towards him. The Demons proceed to take out the Sable security forces and throw Michaels in the armored vehicle, which Li is also inside. Spider-Man pursues the vehicle and fights through an army of Demons while avoiding Sable’s fire as well. While Spider-Man is eventually able to reach Li inside the vehicle, the man grabs him and corrupts him with his negative energy. This sends Spider-Man into a vision of the attack on City Hall. Mister Negative taunts Spider-Man for not being there to prevent the attack, while proclaiming that Norman Osborn will be wiped from the city. Mister Negative tries to get Spider-Man to put on one of the Demon masks to join them, but he throws it back at him, fighting specters of Demons in order to break out of the vision. Back in reality, Spider-Man is able to bring the armored vehicle to a stop, finding Dr. Michaels in the wreckage. Unfortunately, the Devil’s Breath is no longer with him, and there’s no trace of it, or Martin Li in sight. Silver Sable arrives and blames Spider-Man for losing the serum, but Michaels urges her to focus and brief Osborn on what’s happened. Michaels leaves with Sable, and Spider-Man leaves to search for Li.

Meanwhile, MJ investigates Grand Central Station to try to figure out what the Demons are searching for. There, she finds an exhibit of Oscorp’s research and development projects. Among them is a device that can disperse chemicals into the atmosphere. As she inspects it, she turns to shockingly see Martin Li behind her. His Demons arrive in tow and take out security before grabbing the device and guarding all exits. With several civilians now hostage, Li calls Norman Osborn’s office and demands he show up alone in thirty minutes or else their blood will be on his hands. Li then places the sample of Devil’s Breath in the dispersal device and waits for Norman’s arrival. MJ texts Peter and he arrives suited up shortly after. The two then work together to silently pick off the Demons to allow MJ to get to the device to deactivate it. After she does so, Spider-Man takes down the remaining Demons, allowing the hostages to escape. Afterwards, Spider-Man finds Li escaping via train, and the pair battle as it moves through the subway. Spider-Man is able to push Mister Negative into the train’s control panel, electrocuting and incapacitating him. He is then able to bring the train safely to a stop in a construction zone.

In the wake of the train battle, Mister Negative is apprehended by Sable and taken off to the Raft. Sable also recovers the sample of Devil’s Breath and returns it to Oscorp. Celebrations are in order, but not just for Peter. When he returns to Octavius’s Lab, he finds that Otto has made a major breakthrough. Attached to the doctor are two, robotic, octopus-like arms, completely controlled by an intracranial neural interface. Peter inspects the interface and finds some issues that may affect other parts of Otto’s brain. Octavius refuses to acknowledge this, however, and returns with two more robotic arms attached to him. Peter tries to reason with the doctor for more testing, and while he carries lust for the abilities his invention allows him, he eventually agrees. After Peter leaves, however, Otto puts the neural interface back on, and smashes a TV reporting Norman Osborn’s connection to the Devil’s Breath incident. Otto then promises revenge on his former partner.

Peter returns to F.E.A.S.T. to check on May, but as they talk they hear a news report. On it, it’s revealed that the Sable truck carrying the Devil’s Breath was attacked, and its content was stolen. May turns back around to find Peter already gone. Suited up, Spider-Man investigates the site of the attack, but is soon met by Yuri in a helicopter, who tells him that they currently have bigger concerns. Spider-Man climbs to the chopper, and they go to Ryker’s Island, which is currently experiencing a massive prison break. Spider-Man works to subdue the escaping inmates. After things are somewhat secure on Ryker’s, Spider-Man and Yuri notice that the Raft is having a security breach as well. They head there, and immediately as they approach, Electro shoots a bolt of electricity at them, bringing the helicopter down.

Spider-Man protects Yuri, who heads for the main control center as the hero takes on the freed inmates. As Spider-Man traverses through the Raft, he comes across various supervillains he had previously put there. Rhino (a massive mobster with an armored suit grafted to his skin), Electro, Scorpion, Vulture (an old man with a high-tech winged suit giving him the ability of flight), and Mister Negative all attack Spider-Man at once on the Raft’s highest point. When the group subdues Spider-Man, a final member arrives to round out this Sinister Six: none other than Dr. Otto Octavius. Otto gives Spider-Man a final warning to stay out of their way before tossing the web-slinger off the raft into the surrounding river. He reminds the other villains that they all have jobs to do, before they take off separately to get them done.

Later, Spider-Man is recovered by Yuri on a police boat. That night, Otto takes the sample of Devil’s Breath to Times Square. Hoping to show the city the true evil Norman Osborn is hiding behind his public facade, Octavius breaks open the sample and unleashes it onto the city. As the red cloud begins to shower, Otto puts on a protective air filtration mask before leaving. Over the next 24 hours, the Devil’s Breath infection massively spreads across the city. F.E.A.S.T. repurposes as an emergency medical center, and May works tirelessly to assist, despite getting infected herself. Sable locks down the city, preventing any travel in or out. Furthermore, Mayor Osborn publicly blames Spider-Man for the prison break and Devil’s Breath outbreak. Despite this, Mary Jane reports through the Daily Bugle that the disease truly originated in an unregulated Oscorp lab, shifting the blame to the Mayor himself instead. Now with Sable, escaped inmates from Ryker’s and the Raft, the Demons, and broken bones working against him, Spider-Man and his few remaining allies work to stop the ongoing Devil’s Breath situation and somehow bring peace back to the city. The members of the Sinister Six also continue to attack police precincts.

Suddenly, the Veteran’s Center (where Miles, May, and MJ are currently) is set aflame by escaped inmates. Spider-Man rushes there, rescuing May and Miles with MJ’s help. Working together, all four are able to safely escape, showing Peter that not only is he not invincible, but sometimes he can lean on others for help. Peter and MJ make up, and Miles interrupts. The three then establish a game-plan. MJ goes to track leads on the antiserum Oscorp is working on, while Miles plans to be Spider-Man’s eyes and ears at F.E.A.S.T.; Spider-Man, meanwhile, vows to take down the various forces currently attacking the city.

Spider-Man follows traces of the Devil’s Breath from where Otto released it upon Times Square and finds the doctor’s hidden lair. There, he finds various upgrades Otto had crafted for the members of the Sinister Six’s equipment in exchange for their help. Spider-Man finds Otto’s plans, which include having the villains destroy Oscorp holdings throughout the city. The bigger part of his plan, however, is for Martin Li to go after the Devil’s Breath antiserum at Oscorp using something called “Icarus.” Spider-Man finds a box labeled “Icarus,” but when he opens it, he finds a screen with Octavius on the other end. Otto reveals that there is no “Icarus,” and it was only a ruse to get Spider-Man in position. The box then opens to reveal explosives, and Spider-Man escapes just before they explode, destroying the hidden lab and all of the evidence within.

Vulture quickly swoops in and captures Spider-Man, dragging him through the city as he calls MJ to implore her to find the Devil’s Breath antiserum before Li does. Vulture flies Spider-Man to Electro at an Oscorp power plant, and the web-slinger is forced to fight two of his greatest foes at once. Spider-Man is able to incapacitate both to allow the police to apprehend the villains. Spider-Man then takes Electro’s earpiece and speaks to Otto, who continues to swear his revenge on Osborn.

Spider-Man then goes after Scorpion, who is currently working on poisoning the city’s water supply. Scorpion gets the drop on Spider-Man, and injects him with some kind of psychoactive poison which throws Peter into a nightmarish vision of the city. He fights through his hallucinations which prod at his guilt for failing in his various relationships with other people before he’s able to successfully mix an antidote to awaken from his dream.

Peter stops at F.E.A.S.T. to check on May, who breaks into a coughing fit. She rests and tells Peter that Miles is off picking up medical supplies from a nearby relief center, but when Peter tries to call him, Miles doesn’t answer. As it turns out, Miles is a bit preoccupied sneaking past various escaped convicts who have overrun the center so he can retrieve the supplies. Miles is able to find them, but Rhino and Scorpion arrive shortly after. Miles is then forced to sneak out of the area, avoiding Rhino. Miles is stopped by some escaped convicts, but is able to use his lesson from Spider-Man to fight them off and return to F.E.A.S.T.

Spider-Man goes to the harbor to fight Rhino and Scorpion. While he is outmatched physically, he is able to outsmart the villains and trap them in a shipping container to be taken away.

Not finding any record of the Devil’s Breath antiserum lab, MJ decides that she’ll have to search Norman Osborn’s penthouse for any personal records. Using her journalistic cunning, she is able to sneak past Sable and Osborn to get into the elevator up to Osborn’s penthouse. There, MJ makes two shocking discoveries: one, that Norman has a hidden lair behind a wall, and two, Harry never went to Europe, but rather went for treatment for a mysterious hereditary disease called “Oshtoran Syndrome” that he inherited from his mother (who died from it). Sable and Osborn return to the penthouse, and Norman announces that the antiserum has completed, and he’s going to the lab alone to supervise it.

MJ sneaks past Sable to get into the hidden lair, where she discovers Osborn’s research. Devil’s Breath was Osborn’s attempt to cure Harry’s disease after he failed his wife. Among the research are various spiders, much like the one that bit Peter and gave him his abilities, as well as a large container that is sealed and covered. MJ finds the location of the secret antiserum lab, which is labeled as the location of the “Martin Li Incident.” MJ then watches a recording of said incident from September of 1986, in which the boy was used as an experiment for GR-27. The experiment, conducted by Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius, went awry, and unlocked the boy’s Negative Powers, killing his nearby parents in the process. This experiment led to both Li and Octavius’ lust for revenge against Norman.

A startled MJ knocks over one of the spider cages, alerting Sable. She is able to escape and jump off the balcony of the penthouse, and Spider-Man arrives to catch her just in time. On the swing, MJ fills Peter in on what she found, and after he drops her off, a spider from Norman’s lab crawls up her jacket. Spider-Man rushes to the antiserum lab to find that Martin Li had beaten him there and currently has Osborn captive. Spider-Man tries to follow them into the lab, but is stopped by Silver Sable. The pair come to a shaky understanding when Spider-Man offers to help her secure Norman, and she stays outside the lab to fight off Demon reinforcements as the hero heads in to find Li. Li finds Spider-Man and grabs him, corrupting him once again and taking him through the memories of the experiment that killed Li’s parents as well as the pain and anger he felt afterward. Spider-Man escapes the vision and finds Martin Li, who had retrieved the sole sample of the antiserum from Dr. Michaels. Spider-Man stops Li from torturing Osborn, and the pair commence one final battle. Fighting through all of the negative energy Martin can throw at him, Spider-Man defeats Li and brings him back to his normal state. Spider-Man retrieves the antiserum, but is unable to celebrate, as Otto bursts through the ceiling and

knocks him out, taking the sample. Norman recognizes Otto, and Octavius grabs his former partner before climbing back away. Sable arrives and retrieves Spider-Man, taking him to F.E.A.S.T. where Dr. Michaels treats the wounds he sustained from Otto.

While Spider-Man is instructed to rest, he gets out of his bed to check on May, who’s Devil’s Breath has left her bedridden as well. Peter realizes he has to get the antiserum back from Otto, and MJ helps him realize that while his body is weakened, his mind can still find a weakness to Otto’s arms.

As Spider-Man walks away, the spider from Norman’s lab crawls off of MJ and drops down, where it lands on an unsuspecting Miles Morales before biting him. Peter returns to Otto’s lab, and using the research he conducted with his former friend, he develops a new, armored suit. Peter dons this new suit and races to the top of Oscorp Tower, where Otto is currently dangling his former partner above the city.

When Osborn refuses to acknowledge Otto’s hand in his success, and instead chastises Octavius, Otto drops him to fall to his death. Spider-Man swings in just in time to save Norman, who scurries away, before he meets Otto on top of the building. Spider-Man pleads with Otto to give him the antiserum, but the doctor refuses, instead attacking.

Giving all of the energy he has left, Spider-Man fights the robotic armed Octavius, eventually succeeding in removing the neural interface’s protection. Otto knocks Spider-Man down, breaking his mask and exposing his face. While Peter attempts to hide his identity, Otto reveals that he had known all along, and had tried to warn his friend so it wouldn’t come to this.

Angered at Otto knowing he was fighting his former pupil and friend, Peter takes the battle to the side of the building. Peter expresses his anger and sorrow that Otto is no longer the man he once admired as he finishes the fight, forcefully removing the neural interface and disabling Otto’s robotic arms.

As Otto falls, Peter follows him as he lands, finally grabbing the antiserum. Otto, claiming that the neural interface was clouding his thoughts, tries to plead with Peter to help him fix the neural interface so he won’t be trapped in his imobile body. Peter considers helping his friend, but when Otto shows his true colors by threatening to reveal Peter’s secret, the young man walks away from his former mentor, leaving him to be apprehended.

Spider-Man returns to F.E.A.S.T. where he gives the antiserum to Dr. Michaels. Michaels tells him that it’ll take at least a few hours to synthesize a cure from the sample. Spider-Man, knowing May doesn’t have enough time, asks the doctor if he can use the sample to cure her, but he simply states that if he does, there won’t be enough to cure the others.

Michaels leaves him alone with May, and he goes to speak with her. May awakens, and tells Spider-Man to take off his mask so she can see her nephew, revealing that she had known his secret as well. May expresses how proud of him she is, before urging him to do the right thing. Peter contemplates using the antiserum to cure his aunt, but knowing she’d want him to focus on the greater good, he puts it down. He then kneels by the side of her bed as he spends his last moments with her. A few moments later, May passes on with her nephew beside her.

Later, the cure is synthesized, and Michaels helps to administer it to the public along with Miles and Rio Morales. A funeral is then held for May Parker, which Peter, MJ, Miles, and Rio all attend. Meanwhile, Otto Octavius is thrown in a cell inside the Raft.

Three months later. MJ and Peter meet at Mick’s Diner, where MJ announces that she got the Associate Editor position at the Daily Bugle. Peter is waiting for his new apartment to be ready, so MJ offers her place for him to stay, to which he excitedly agrees. The two then share a kiss, finally rekindling their relationship.

A week or so later, Miles helps Peter move into his apartment, and Miles tells him that he has a secret he needs to tell him. Miles then jumps and sticks to the ceiling, revealing that the Oscorp spider that bit him gave him spider-like powers. Peter then jumps to meet him, revealing that he’s Spider-Man to his young friend.

In Norman’s penthouse, the mayor accesses his hidden lair and walks up to the large, sealed container. Inside is Harry Osborn, suspended in a liquid and covered in a black substance. Norman promises his son that he’ll find a cure before telling him that he loves him and placing his hand on the glass of the container. The black substance then forms a tentacle that reaches out and touches the glass on the other side.

Shortly after these events, MJ and veteran reporter Ben Ulrich start to investigate attacks perpetrated by an invisible assailant that MJ assumes to be a ghost. This leads them to information about another test done by Oscorp around the time they created Mister Negative. MJ takes Peter to a magic shop called “The Black Bunny”, run by a man named Quentin Beck. MJ asks him to “communicate” with the apparent ghost, who tells MJ to stop her ongoing story.

Later, Ben discovers that an old colleague of his was murdered while investigating a man named James Harvey, who was used as a test subject by Oscorp in which he was seemingly vaporized. MJ and Peter quickly learn that this experiment was conducted by Oscorp to speed up human metabolism, but they wound up overshooting. This caused the “ghost” to move so quickly he became invisible to the human eye. They trap them in a storage room, and once they run low on energy, the speedster slows down enough to show up on camera. The pair then realize it’s not James Harvey, but instead an unknown teenage girl.

Spider-Man attempts to apprehend the girl, but she punches him through a wall and escapes into the city, where she refuels on food. The pair fight, but Spider-Man quickly realizes he’s outmatched and escapes. Peter returns to Octavius Labs and works on a supersonic Spider-Suit so he can match the girl’s speed. Meanwhile, MJ and Ben learn that James Harvey had a daughter, named Haley, before he died.

Spider-Man uses his new suit to chase Haley, as MJ tracks down her mother, Carla. This only frustrates Haley more, who rushes back to their home, moving so quickly she lights on fire. Spider-Man is able to swing her out of the apartment and into the surrounding waters to extinguish her, as Carla admits to MJ that she had been filling her daughter’s head with hate for years. Spider-Man speaks with Haley and tries to convince her that her abilities are a gift, not a curse, but the advanced speed soon overpowers his new suit, which explodes.

Later, Spider-Man helps Haley learn to keep her powers in check, and MJ writes an exposé about Oscorp’s involvement in the James Harvey experiment. Spider-Man then delivers Haley her own suit, passing on his Uncle Ben’s lesson that “with great power there must also come great responsibility.”

Sometime later, MJ begins work on a new story, involving the “Maggia” syndicate of mafia crime families. While the syndicate’s power had declined in the previous years, the vacuum left in the wake of Spider-Man taking down Fisk and the Demons has allowed them to resurge. Evidently, during a federal raid of the Maggia, one of the Dons’ paintings called the “Maria” was seized. MJ learns that one of the families is planning to steal the painting from the museum it is being displayed at, and Spider-Man goes to investigate.

Spider-Man arrives at the museum and finds a group of gangsters led by crime boss Joseph “Hammerhead” Martello attempting to break in. While Spider-Man is able to stop Hammerhead’s men from entering the front of the museum, he soon finds that someone has already broken in via the roof. Spider-Man enters the museum to investigate the painting, but Hammerhead’s reinforcements crash through the entrance, triggering security measures and locking the painting behind bulletproof glass. Spider-Man takes them out and returns to the painting, where on the other side of the bulletproof glass, he sees his old flame, Black Cat, who tells him to turn around.

More of Hammerhead’s men arrive, now with rockets, and Spider-Man is forced to take them out before he’s forced to watch Black Cat take the painting. While he’s confused about her going back to stealing art, she simply breaks the painting in half to reveal her true target: a flash storage drive hidden inside of it. As Spider-Man gets distracted by a piece of the museum about to crush a couple of Hammerhead’s men, Black Cat sneaks away.

Spider-Man then gets a call from a Detective Mackey who asks to meet him atop the roof of an NYPD building. There, the detective tells Spider-Man about the “original” Black Cat burglary case 20 years prior, which Mackey worked on. That Black Cat was arrested and died in prison, but his stolen paintings were never recovered. Spider-Man finds one, and Mackey reveals that the original Black Cat’s name was “Walter Hardy”, and Peter realizes that he must have been related to the current one, Felicia Hardy.

When Spider-Man retrieves all of the paintings and returns to the precinct, however, he realizes that “Detective Mackey” was actually Walter Hardy himself, tricking the web-slinger into recovering his stolen goods. Walter then calls Spider-Man, telling him to take care of his “little girl”, before he hangs up.

MJ learns that Hammerhead has obtained the drive the Black Cat stole, and the Maggia families have grown angry. Spider-Man disrupts a turf war between the Maggia and Hammerhead’s men, but after he questions one of the combatants, he learns that it was a distraction set up by Black Cat. Spider-Man follows her and finds her just after she steals another Maggia flash drive. Spider-Man asks why she’s stealing the drives, but she reveals that she doesn’t even know what’s on them. Black Cat states that if she doesn’t steal the drives, “they” will kill her son. She then vanishes, leaving a very surprised Peter not only wondering when Felicia had a child, but if he could possibly be the father.

As MJ works on figuring out what Hammerhead’s after with the drives, Spider-Man gets a call from live-streamer “Screwball”, who forces him to do challenges that she can stream to her viewers. MJ discovers Black Cat’s next target, and Spider-Man heads there and again finds that he’s too late, as Black Cat has gotten away with another flash drive. MJ later discovers that the flash drives contain data on a joint accounting database between the Maggia families, and if Black Cat gets to the last one before Spider-Man can, Hammerhead will effectively own the entire crime syndicate.

Spider-Man tracks Black Cat’s trail, but when he finds her, she hits him with an EMP. He follows her on foot to the subway, and follows a train she hitches a ride on, asking her if he’s the father of her son; a question she avoids answering. Emerging back into the city, Spider-Man is finally able to stop Black Cat and talk to her calmly. In order to save her son, Spider-Man offers to help find him if Black Cat buys some time with Hammerhead. Black Cat agrees to not give Hammerhead the last drive, promising to discuss who her son’s father is after they rescue him.

Meanwhile, MJ follows a lead to one of Hammerhead’s hideouts, finding several pallets of counterfeit money. She then finds a shipping manifest and downloads the data before sneaking away. Spider-Man then gets a call from Black Cat to meet her near one of Hammerhead’s offices, where she got a tip that he’s keeping something “extremely valuable”. Spider-Man draws out Hammerhead’s men while Black Cat sneaks inside to look for her son. While she doesn’t find him, she does learn that Hammerhead recently bought a room-sized vault to store his highest value items, one which likely is currently containing her kidnapped child. Black Cat then helps Spider-Man take down the remaining gangsters at the location before leaving to go searching for the vault’s location alone.

MJ uses the shipping data to find a record of the vault being delivered to a shipyard. Spider-Man and Black Cat go to the shipyard to find it heavily guarded. The pair work together to silently take out Hammerhead’s guards, then begin to search for Felicia’s son. Spider-Man checks the shipping containers, while Black Cat heads into a nearby building. While Spider-Man doesn’t find a child, he does find something: Sable International weapons. Suddenly, heavily armed Hammerhead goons arrive with said weapons, and Spider-Man is forced to fight them off. Afterwards, Spider-Man heads into the building to look for Felicia, finding the vault, which is still open.

Spider-Man investigates the vault, finding it empty, with the final flash drive’s container still within. Suddenly, the vault door closes behind him, and Felicia speaks to him on the other side. As it turns out, she had just been stringing him along to unwittingly help her acquire the entire wealth of the Maggia. Furthermore, Felicia never even had a son. Black Cat runs off, leaving Spider-Man behind to deal with Hammerhead’s reinforcements. When they arrive, he hears Hammerhead over a radio reveal that the flash drive had a tracking device on it, and the crime boss had also rigged Felicia’s penthouse with explosives.

Spider-Man follows Black Cat to her penthouse, but arrives just in time to see her open the door. Unable to stop her, the explosives detonate, leaving Spider-Man powerless to watch the penthouse go up in flames. On a nearby rooftop, Hammerhead watches as well.

Sometime later, Peter and MJ meet at Mick’s Diner to discuss, and Peter reveals that they never found a body in the wake of the explosion. While he’s relieved to not be a father, he and MJ admit that one day he’ll make an amazing father. With the Maggia money now out of his reach, Hammerhead decides to take on the Maggia families by force. Using the stolen Sable weapons, Hammerhead’s men begin to storm the Maggia Dons, igniting an all-out gang war in New York City.

The Maggia pin Hammerhead in an old sanitarium, and Spider-Man works with Yuri to distract the warring gang members so the police can sneak inside to capture Hammerhead. Spider-Man takes out all of the gangsters outside, but when he enters the sanitarium, he finds no sign of the police, or Yuri. Spider-Man finds the security system and views surveillance footage of Hammerhead holding Yuri and two other officers at gunpoint. Hammerhead headbutts one to death, but before he can kill the other, Yuri breaks free and steals one of his mens’ guns. Hammerhead holds the other office hostage, but Spider-Man arrives just in time to pull him away, taking out the lights. A gunfight then erupts in the darkness, and unfortunately once it’s over, Spider-Man and Yuri find the officer dead from a wound caused by one of the wild gunshots.

Spider-Man learns that all of the Maggia Dons are holed up in one location, and that Hammerhead insteads on striking all of them at once to take control over the city’s crime syndicate. While Spider-Man learns this location, before he heads to it he decides to protect a police convoy transporting a witness willing to testify against Hammerhead first. As expected, Hammerhead’s men attempt to stop the convoy, forcing Spider-Man to intervene. After protecting the witness, Spider-Man heads to the location of the Don’s: the Auerbach Theater. Just as he arrives, Hammerhead’s men arrive with the stolen Sable tech, and Spider-Man fights them off to prevent them entering the theater. Afterward, Spider-Man enters the theater to check on the Dons, but finds that Hammerhead’s men had simply tunneled underneath the theater with the Sable machines to capture them.

Yuri decides to spread the remaining Sable gear throughout the city so Hammerhead can’t steal them all from one location, and Spider-Man protects their transport convoys. After completing this mission for Yuri, Spider-Man gets a frantic call from her instructing him to get back to the precinct. There, Spider-Man learns that Hammerhead had hit the precinct with explosives, killing several police officers before making off with cases marked “Project Olympus”, an unknown Sable project.

A guilt-ridden Yuri gets fed up with being unable to stop her officers from getting killed and grabs a Sable firearm before deciding to take matters into her own hands. Spider-Man tries to reason with her, but she threatens to arrest him before speeding off in a cruiser. Knowing that it’s the only way to protect Yuri, Spider-Man goes off to find Hammerhead before she can.

While Yuri starts to hit various Hammerhead strongholds on her vengeful warpath, Spider-Man learns that the crime lord intends to finally take out the Dons at a construction site. There, Spider-Man finds that Hammerhead is live-streaming the four Dons inside a hole, which his men begin to fill with concrete. Spider-Man then fights against the clock, taking out Hammerhead’s men before they can bury the Maggia Dons in concrete. After protecting them, Spider-Man focuses his efforts on finding Hammerhead himself. The pair finally meet in an under-construction building, and Spider-Man finally sees what “Project Olympus” is: an experimental battlesuit that Hammerhead is now donning. Despite Hammerhead’s mechanical upgrades, Spider-Man is able to battle him and his men and eventually emerge victorious.

After the battle, Yuri arrives and shoots Hammerhead in his impenetrable skull before subduing Spider-Man. Yuri then holds Hammerhead at gunpoint over the edge of the building and fires a bullet into his skull once again, just as Spider-Man breaks free and rips the gun away from her, moments too late. Hammerhead is then taken away by EMTs, and an officer secretly working for the crime boss takes out a taser and shocks him inside the ambulance, resuscitating the hard headed mafioso.

The next day, Yuri is placed on administrative leave, but she vows that her suspension won’t stop her. Hammerhead, meanwhile, evades capture and continues to go after Sable gear, including the rest of Project Olympus. Spider-Man continues to thwart Hammerhead’s men’s attempts to steal Project Olympus equipment, until a surprising figure re-emerges: Silver Sable herself. When she starts to take down Hammerhead’s men as well, Spider-Man speaks to her, and she responds by attacking him. Spider-Man tries to convince Sable to work together to take down Hammerhead, and after a quick fight she simply flies off in her aircraft.

After stopping more Hammerhead attempts at stealing Sable tech, MJ and Peter focus on learning where the crime boss is storing the equipment he’s stolen thus far. MJ also finds out that there’s a civil war ongoing in Symkaria, Silver Sable’s homeland, and she’s so angry due to the fact that the arms Hammerhead has stolen could be put to use in aiding her people.

During the time afterwards, Spider-Man (with some assistance from Miles Morales) finds Screwball and takes her down, finally getting her sent away to jail. After stopping more Hammerhead theft of Sable equipment, Spider-Man is forced to get between the mob and Silver Sable herself once again, who is still trying to take down Hammerhead to retrieve what was stolen from her. After mitigating as much damage to the city as he can, Spider-Man stops Silver Sable from killing one of Hammerhead’s men, offering his help as her partner. Sable accepts this partnership, secretly planting a tracker on Spider-Man before flying off once again.

Also within this period, Spider-Man discovers that Yuri has devolved deeper and deeper into her lust for revenge. Yuri’s therapist was targeted by the Maggia and subsequently murdered. This throws Yuri even further into her renegade revenge plot, as she crosses the one line she can’t go back from and kills the enforcer who murdered her therapist. Yuri then disappears, leaving a very disappointed Spider-Man behind.

Eventually, Sable and Spider-Man find Hammerhead, now practically a cyborg with his entire body replaced by Project Olympus technology. After he attacks, Black Cat arrives just in time to assist Spider-Man, revealing that she was not only alive, but that she hacked into Sable’s tracker to find him. Black Cat gives Spider-Man a flash drive with the data on Hammerhead, allowing him to take the crime boss down for good, before she leaves him once again.

As MJ prepares to go to Symkaria to report on the Civil War, Spider-Man uses Black Cat’s data to find Hammerhead and Silver Sable. After rescuing Sable from Hammerhead’s men, the pair come to an agreement about taking down the crime boss so she can help her home country. After fighting off Hammerhead’s goons together, the pair finally find the cyborg crime boss himself on a Sable nautical base. Spider-Man and Sable combine forces to take down the cybernetic Hammerhead and his various reinforcements, finally bringing him down through the power of teamwork.

In the wake of the battle, the two come to a deeper understanding, and Spider-Man lets Silver Sable leave to go fight in her war. Afterwards, Peter gives Miles a Spider-Man mask of his own, and begins working with the teen to train to be his own web-slinging hero.

At some later point in the year, Spider-Man stops a robbery being committed by a masked supervillain calling himself the “Tarantula”. During their fight, Spider-Man gets help from an unexpected third party: another Spider-Man from an alternate universe. The Superior Spider-Man of Earth-616 (who is actually Otto Octavius in that Peter’s body) tells this universe’s Spider-Man that he’s needed in a battle to help all of the other Spider-Men in existence defeat the “Inheritors”, who threaten all of their lives. Spider-Man agrees so long as the Superior Spider-Man helps him take down the Tarantula. The pair work together to apprehend the criminal, and this universe’s Spider-Man has Miles watch over the city before saying his goodbyes to MJ. He then traverses several dimensions to enter the Spider-Verse with the others. When his work is done in the other universe, Spider-Man says his goodbyes to Superior Spider-Man and returns to his own.

Sometime later that year, Miles is still learning to balance his life as a normal teen and as Spider-Man, helping his family move into a new apartment in Harlem with assistance from his friend and school roommate Ganke Lee. That night, Miles spots a robbery taking place and tries to change into his Spider-Man gear, but when he opens his bag, he realizes he accidentally mixed up his school bag with Ganke’s. While Miles tries to stop the thief, he gets away, and Miles himself is then mistaken for the culprit. When the police arrive, without his “uniform”, Miles is apprehended. Luckily, Spider-Man arrives and delivers the actual thief, allowing Miles to go free.

Miles and Peter then walk away and discuss what happened, with the elder Spider-Man disappointed that the younger one misplaced his gear. Miles, frustrated over being profiled by the officer, then runs off to find Ganke and switch their bags back out. Miles reaches their dorm room and sneaks inside and successfully retrieves his bag, but wakes up Ganke, who realizes that Miles couldn’t have entered the dorm without his keys. Miles tries to lie his way out of it, but Ganke remains skeptical. Ganke texts Miles later to apologize, forwarding him a video he found online of a half-bird/half-human type creature in an alley.

Returning home, Miles talks with his mother, learning that Rio intends to get into politics, planning to apply for city council the next day. The next day, the large, bird-like person is spotted climbing the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (or S.H.I.E.L.D.) building in Brooklyn. Miles suits up and follows the man, quickly learning that it’s a man in a metallic bird suit, much like the Vulture’s, only red instead of green. After a quick battle on the side of the building, Miles calls Peter, who reveals that he’s run into Vulture. The bird-person then reveals that she is Vulture’s granddaughter, calling herself “Starling”. Starling gets away with whatever she stole from the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, leaving Miles to regret his failure to stop her.

Later, even more people in bird-like armor attack, this time at the headquarters of cancer research business “Terraheal”. These “Crows” as Starling calls them, lay waste to the building, and Miles arrives on the scene in his Spider-Man suit to stop them. Miles takes a stealthy approach, activating the building’s sprinkler system to draw them out and cause them to retreat. Starling reaches out to Miles for a one-on-one discussion, and the pair meet atop a building at night. Starling tries to appeal to Miles’ lack of belonging, offering him a spot in the Crows before flying off into the night.

The next day, the two Spider-Men receive intel from an officer named Viv Smallwood that Vulture, before he broke out of Ryker’s, was used as a test subject for Terraheal’s cancer treatment. The treatment restored him to full strength before the Crows arrived and busted him out of prison. Viv states that Terraheal’s nanobot treatment still courses through Vulture’s veins, so they have to apprehend him before the Crows are able to extract them and reprogram them for evil.

Later, Miles and Peter go out for pizza in Times Square when Vulture attacks, releasing genetically mutated bird-people into the city. When Miles spots Ganke under attack, he rushes out (sans-mask) and helps him, and his friend finally realizes that Miles is Spider-Man. The bird-people begin to bite other non-mutated civilians, causing them to mutate as well. As this bird-virus spreads through the city, Miles and Peter rush to find some kind of antidote for the nanobots now inside the infected. Starling then appears and tells the crowd that Terraheal is responsible for what’s happening, as Miles tries to protect his mother, Rio, who he spots. Miles is unsuccessful, however, as Rio gets infected and begins to mutate before joining the mass of bird-people.

Miles then fights with Starling and the Crows while Peter takes on the Vulture. When Vulture reveals that those infected will soon die, leaving nobody left for the Spider-Men to defend, Starling starts to second-guess their actions and flies off. Miles follows, and Ganke calls to tell Miles that one of the bird-people he webbed up, who also happened to come in contact with his blood, began to turn back into their human form. Miles follows Starling to the Crows’ hideout before returning to Harlem to meet with Ganke to figure out how to amplify the effects of his blood. When the pair reunite, Ganke reveals that the antiseptic properties in the spider that bit Miles transferred to him, and if Miles can find the source of the signal transmitting to the nanobots, he should be able to disable it using his DNA: effectively ending the ongoing birdemic.

Miles returns to Starling’s hideout and fights the Crows single handedly. After taking them down, Starling empathizes with Miles’ plight to stop Vulture’s plot. Miles and Starling then work together to reprogram the remaining nanobots with his own DNA so they can release them into the air to effectively re-infect the city and cancel out the mutations. Starling flies over to Times Square, where Miles meets with Peter. Vulture tries to stop them, but the Spider-Men work together to combine Miles’ DNA with the nanobots and release them in a cloud over the city, which almost immediately begins to cure the inhabitants of New York City. While Vulture gets away, Miles’ performance during the entire event makes Peter trust him enough to leave him to take care of the city if the elder Spider-Man ever has to take a vacation.

Now in December of 2019, the two Spider-Men meet to guard a convoy transporting captured Raft escapees back to the prison. As a helicopter transporting one of the VIPs crashes, the prisoner it’s containing, Rhino, breaks free. Miles and Peter follow Rhino through the city, eventually leading into a shopping mall. After crashing through the studio of J. Jonah Jameson’s “Just the Facts”, the pair follow Rhino to a facility owned by energy corporation Roxxon. When Peter gets knocked out by Rhino, Miles is forced to face Rhino one-on-one. Shockingly, this awakens a new power within Miles, as his punch becomes strengthened by a bio-electric current. Using this new power, called “Venom”, the young Spider-Man is able to defeat the beast of a man.

In the wake of the battle, Roxxon’s own security forces arrive, led by the company’s head of research and development: Simon Krieger. Krieger offers to hold Rhino until the police arrive, and the Spider-Men take their leave. Afterwards, the pair discuss Miles’ new power, and Peter breaks the news that he’ll be gone for the next few weeks to act as MJ’s photographer overseas. Peter then gives Miles a Christmas present before leaving him as New York’s ONLY Spider-Man for the next few weeks.

Miles meets with Ganke to open his present from Peter: his very own Spider Suit. After donning it and doing some training left behind by Peter, Miles learns of a breakin at Roxxon’s headquarters. Miles investigates and finds the company’s massive Nuform reactor, which could potentially generate enough energy to supply the entirety of Harlem. Just as Miles learns that whoever broke into the building is searching for Nuform, the experimental energy source of Roxxon’s creation, he’s suddenly attacked by the culprits, who happen to be wielding some very advanced weaponry. After taking them out, Miles learns that the attackers were tracking Nuform shipments. Roxxon security arrives, and Miles returns to his mother’s apartment for Christmas dinner.

While helping prepare for dinner, Miles finds some of his father’s old police files, including one about a masked villain called the “Prowler”. A special guest then arrives, and Miles answers the door to find his old friend and former schoolmate, Phin Mason, who he hasn’t seen in months. The power then goes out, forcing Miles to sneak in some of Spider abilities so he can climb up the building to shock the transformer with his Venom powers. The group then enjoy the Morales family’s first Harlem Christmas celebration.

Ganke then develops an app so citizens can directly request help from Spider-Man, and the first one comes in, coincidentally, from Miles’ uncle Aaron. Miles, as Spider-Man, helps Aaron repair the train, and Aaron tells him that the group who broke into Roxxon the night before are a gang who go by the “Underground”. Miles takes down the Underground goons messing with the train relays, learning that their leader is someone called the “Tinkerer”. After he gets the trains running again, Spider-Man returns to Aaron, who gives him an unlimited subway pass as thanks. Spider-Man looks at the pass, and is surprised to see the name “Miles Morales” on it. Aaron reveals that he knew the new Spider-Man was his nephew as soon as he saw him on the news the night before. Aaron promises to keep Miles’ secret, offering to help however he can.

Miles then helps a bodega owner find his cat, also named Spider-Man. After rescuing Spider-Man the Cat, Miles returns him home to the bodega and heads out to meet with Phin. The pair meet on a hotel rooftop, where they retrieve and open up a time capsule they left behind with Phin’s brother, Rick, years ago (before Rick took a job with Roxxon leading their clean power initiative). Inside the time capsule is an award the pair won at a science fair for an energy converter they built together in middle school. When Miles finds a photograph of the pair of them with Rick inside as well, he asks Phin about him, but she dodges the question and leaves hurriedly.

Miles returns home and meets with Ganke to head to a street fair where Rio is holding a rally for her city council run. There, he meets a Deaf street artist named Hailey Cooper, communicating with her using ASL. At Rio’s speech, which is guarded by Roxxon security, she opposes the energy company, disagreeing with them tearing down stables of the neighborhood to build their facilities and work on experimental fuel. Suddenly, on a screen nearby, the Underground’s leader, the Tinkerer, hijacks the video feed and delivers a message. The Tinkerer directly addresses Roxxon, accusing Simon Krieger of being a murderer. The Underground then attack, forcing Miles to suit up as Ganke ushers Rio to safety. Spider-Man fights off the Underground before an explosion rocks a nearby bridge. He heads there, finding the Underground squaring off with Roxxon. When Spider-Man attempts to intervene, the Tinkerer arrives and knocks him away. The Tinkerer then breaks into a Roxxon transport vehicle and steals a container of Nuform. Spider-Man attempts to wrestle it away, and his Venom powers disable the Tinkerer’s mask, revealing their identity to be none other than Phin Mason. The Tinkerer smacks Spider-Man away, who crashes into the stockpile of Nuform. His bioelectricity destabilizes the fuel source, causing it to explode. The Tinkerer then escapes with the Nuform canister she stole, leaving Spider-Man behind to deal with her goons. The blast from the Nuform explosion causes the bridge to collapse, and Spider-Man shifts his focus to rescuing the remaining civilians. Although he is able to use his webbing to hold the bridge together long enough to allow those in danger to get to safety, Spider-Man is quickly cornered by a squad of Roxxon security forces. Held at gunpoint, Spider-Man suddenly vanishes into thin air, awakening another power the younger Spider-Man has over his counterpart: the ability to turn invisible.

The next day, Miles and Ganke work together to design a new Spider Suit, one that’s unique to Miles’ style and abilities. Now equipped with his own unique suit, Spider-Man sneaks into the Masons’ old repair shop to search for any evidence of Phin’s activities. There he finds her secret room, where he watches a video recording from six months prior. In the video, Phin is with Rick, who is visibly sick. Rick states that his entire team has fallen ill, but Krieger won’t admit that it was caused by the Nuform they’ve been exposed to. The pair then planned to sabotage Roxxon’s Nuform supply, but as Spider-Man sees in another recording, something went wrong and Phin lost her phone (including all the recordings made during their attempt).

Spider-Man tracks her phone’s last known location to a Roxxon lab, and as he heads off, an unknown masked figure watches him from nearby. Spider-Man sneaks into the lab, but he’s followed by the masked figure, who he quickly recognizes as the masked thief known as the “Prowler” that his father had a case file on. The Prowler removes his mask, revealing himself to be Miles’ uncle Aaron. While Aaron, a former Roxxon employee, tries to convince Miles to leave before getting on the company’s bad side, the boy refuses, instead sticking to finding Phin’s phone. Prowler and Spider-Man then work together to take out the Roxxon security to get to the facility’s Nuform reactor. Spider-Man finds Phin’s phone and watches the recordings from the day six months ago. In the recording, Phin and Rick try to override the core and destroy the Nuform, but Simon Krieger notices them and triggers a shield around the reactor. Rick tries to manually destroy the core with his bare hands, but it overloads, and Rick is killed in the blast. With the knowledge that the reactor killed his friend, Miles decides to shut it down for good, instructing Aaron to open the protective shield before using his Venon to overcharge and destroy it. Unfortunately, this also ends up frying the phone, erasing the evidence of Kreiger’s actions. Spider-Man and the Prowler then fight their way out of the lab, escaping into the subway. Aaron suggests that Miles tell Phin that he wants to join the Underground, keeping his identity as Spider-Man a secret to go undercover and learn more about her plans.

Miles then meets with Phin at a coffee shop and lies to her, telling him he got to her shop after a fight broke out and learned about Rick. Miles offers his help, and Phin takes him to the abandoned Fisk Tower, where the Underground has set up shop in the Kingpin’s absence. After proving himself by showing he’s fearless, Miles is allowed into the group and taken into their hideout. Miles begins to covertly search for the stolen canister of Nuform, eventually making an excuse to leave so he can suit up and follow Phin into the building’s basement. There, Spider-Man learns that the Underground have moved the Nuform to a lab uptown. He also overhears that exposure to the Nuform is not only making the Underground sick, but that his bioelectric abilities messed with the structure of the fuel, making it unstable. Spider-Man takes a photo of the Underground’s map of facilities, and Phin mentions a theater, which gives Spider-Man his next destination.

At the theater, Spider-Man takes out the Underground guarding the outside and breaks his way into the main auditorium. There, he finds a device Phin is using to transfer energy into the Nuform in order to decrease its stability so it will act as an explosive device she can use to target Roxxon’s new plaza in Harlem. Spider-Man decides to take the Nuform to stop this plan, but Underground reinforcements arrive and stop him. When he takes them out, he tries to grab the Nuform once again, but is stopped by the Tinkerer herself, who snatches the canister and runs off. Spider-Man follows her, and the pair engage in a destructive chase across Manhattan. Spider-Man is eventually outsmarted by the Tinkerer, who brings him down and corners him with her sword, threatening to kill him. As a final ditch effort to appeal to her reason, Miles takes off his mask, causing Phin to take off hers as well. He tries to talk to her, but his shocked friend simply vanishes as the police arrive. Miles is left injured both physically and emotionally by this encounter, and he calls his Uncle Aaron for advice. The pair meet on a rooftop, and Miles fills his uncle in on what’s going on. In order to help Miles clear his head, Aaron gives him a flash drive of old beats he was working on with his dad, tasking him with sampling noises all throughout the city to finish them. Miles tells Aaron that he plans on meeting Phin at Trinity Church the following day before swinging off. Aaron then calls an unknown third party to tell them about the meeting, telling them that they can have the Tinkerer, but to leave Spider-Man alone.

The next day, Spider-Man works with Hailey (the street artist) to find the identity of a crime boss operating out of the Raft who has been systematically attempting to shut down various businesses. As Ganke predicts, this crime boss turns out to be Wilson Fisk, and the pair are able to thwart his efforts to overrun Harlem. As thanks for caring about their neighborhood, Hailey gives Spider-Man her scarf to stay warm. Miles calls Phin and arranges the meeting at Trinity Church to make things right. There, Miles agrees with Phin that Roxxon and Krieger need to pay for what they did to Rick, but they have to find a better way. As the pair discuss, they’re suddenly attacked, surprisingly by Rhino, now decked out in an upgraded Roxxon powered suit that’s impervious to Miles’ Venom powers. Rhino then knocks out both of them, and they’re taken captive by Roxxon.

When Spider-Man awakens, he finds himself with Phin, both of them strapped to chairs before Simon Krieger. Krieger tries to take off his mask, but his involuntary defenses shock the businessman. Krieger threatens to study Spider-Man’s body to learn how he can monetize his abilities before leaving the room with Rhino, bringing in guards to beat the location of the Nuform out of them. As the guards begin to beat on Spider-Man, his Venom powers erupt into a mighty blast, knocking them out and freeing him and Phin from their restraints. The pair then work together to escape the Roxxon facility, on the way learning that Krieger had hired Prowler to keep tabs on both of them. The pair reach Kreiger’s lab, where they find all of the data on Nuform, including Krieger knowing about all of its potential risks. Before they can make off with it, however, Rhino bursts in and attacks. Tinkerer and Spider-Man then take on Rhino and various Roxxon guards, leveraging their individual talents in battle together to defeat them. Spider-Man leaves Tinkerer with Rhino as he goes off to download Krieger’s data, but while he does so, Rhino begins to taunt the girl about her brother’s death. As the villain laughs at Tinkerer for causing her brother’s death, she pulls out her sword and plunges it into him. Spider-Man lunges at Tinkerer to stop her from killing Rhino, and the angered girl takes out her frustration on him instead, beating him nearly unconscious. Phin leaves Miles with a warning that if he comes after her again she’ll kill him, before running off as he passes out.

Ganke recovers Miles and takes him home to recover, where Rio rushes over to her injured son. She quickly notices the costume he’s wearing, and Miles is forced to reveal his secret to his mother. As he recovers, Miles fills Rio in on Phin’s plans to blow up the plaza, and she initiates an evacuation of Harlem to prevent anyone from being injured by the potential blast. Ganke tracks down Phin’s next steps to the Oscorp Science Center, where she and Miles won the award for their energy converter years ago. Miles realizes she must be trying to use the converter as part of her plan and he rushes there to stop her. As he approaches, however, he’s subdued by Prowler and taken underground. Prowler tries to plead with Spider-Man to stay out of the battle between the Underground and Roxxon to protect himself. Not wanting to lose his nephew the same way he lost his brother, Prowler keeps Spider-Man trapped in an electric cage, but he is able to break free using a Venom blast. The two then fight hand-to-hand, and the nephew is able to defeat the uncle. Miles then leaves his uncle behind to honor his vow to protect the city.

Spider-Man finally reaches the science center and breaks in, retracing their steps from the day they saw their project displayed with Rick. He finds the canister of Nuform attached to the project, but as he tries to take it, Tinkerer arrives and stops him, before taking it herself and running off. Ganke calls frantically to tell Miles about an ongoing war in Harlem between the Underground and Roxxon, forcing him to head there before following Tinkerer to the plaza. Spider-Man breaks up the battle, preventing any civilian casualties. As Spider-Man notices Tinkerer beginning to overload the reactor, Prowler suddenly arrives to clean up the remaining Roxxon security forces to protect Rio and Ganke. Spider-Man leaves them in Prowler’s hands to finish the evacuations as he rushes to stop Tinkerer.

Spider-Man reaches the reactor just in time to see the Tinkerer inserting the unstable Nuform. Spider-Man tries to convince her to stop what she’s doing, as it’ll end up destroying all of Harlem (not just the plaza), but she doesn’t trust him. This leads to a battle between the two, in which the former friends throw everything they have at one another, trying to convince one another that they’re right. Spider-Man subdues Tinkerer in a web, then looks over to the reactor to stop it. Unfortunately, however, the battle wasted too much time, and he’s forced to watch as the reactor lets out a blast that begins to destroy the plaza. With the clock ticking to stop the reactor from completely overloading, Tinkerer breaks free and attacks once again. As their fight goes on, the reactor overload continues, sending a shockwave through the city. Realizing Spider-Man was right, Tinkerer takes off her mask and relents, but the building crumbles and she falls. Miles is forced to take off his own malfunctioning mask to save her, and he then uses every ounce of energy and willpower left in him to crawl to the reactor, using his Venom powers to destroy it, sending a massive blast of energy through his body. Phin grabs Miles and runs up the side of the plaza, jumping high above the city. While the pair are in air, the energy coursing through Miles erupts, creating a massive explosion which vaporizes Phin. Miles then crashes back down to the street, where Rio and the citizens of Harlem find him. While Miles panics about his face being uncovered, Hailey gives his mask to Ganke, and he puts it back on. As reporters arrive, the Harlem citizens make a vow to keep his identity secret as their Spider-Man swings away.

Four weeks later, Simon Krieger is arrested for his crimes after Aaron Davis turns himself in as the Prowler and agrees to testify against him. Miles then returns to his neighborhood, where Hailey has created a mural for him and the other Spider-Man. When Peter returns, he compliments Miles’ suit, and the pair begin to patrol the streets of New York City together once again.

Inside Norman Osborn’s secret penthouse lab, Dr. Curt Connors gives the mayor a status update on his son’s treatment. Norman then instructs the doctor to let Harry out of his treatment pod, and the doctor reluctantly complies.

Sometime later, MJ’s book on the wartorn country of Symkaria is published, and she’s interviewed by J. Jonah Jameson. During it, however, the two Spider-Men crash through his window, fighting Tarantula once again. Later, the Spider-Men discover a group of hooded men breaking into an electronics store. The men claim to work for someone called the “Hood”, who has the forces of darkness at his command. These men then somehow turn invisible, and while the Spider-Men stun them, the gang are somehow able to sneak past the police. The pair then find the group robbing a jewelry store, and Miles is able to subdue them and disable their cloaking tech. Miles realizes that the tech was created by the Tinkerer, and must have been recovered after her death. Suddenly, the lights cut out, and the Hood attacks, cloaked in the Tinkerer’s tech. While the Spider-Men knock him down, his men break free of their restraints and attack, allowing the Hood to escape with the most expensive pieces in the store.

Shortly after, the two Spider-Men find the Hood at a pier, where they determine he had just bought something smuggled on a freighter. They follow him to find that he’s a young man named Parker Robbins, who bought some kind of ancient “Lifeline Tablet” to hopefully cure his ailing mother. Parker tries to read from the tablet to cure her, but it seemingly fails. The Spider-Men try to talk to him afterwards, but he attacks. Parker’s mother pleads with him to stop fighting and instead spend her last moments together. The police arrive, but Spider-Man stalls them so Parker and his mother can be together as she finally passes. The young man then voluntarily turns himself in, having nothing left to fight for.

The next day, Miles decides to join the Music Technology program at Empire State University, and Peter agrees to write him a recommendation. Unbeknownst to MJ, J. Jonah Jameson is currently meeting with the owners of the Daily Bugle, and the formerly ousted head editor buys back the publication and prepares to take over its operations once again.

And with that, we reach the beginning of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, picking up ten months after Peter’s return from overseas. With several adventures and foes behind them, the Spider-Men will be forced to fight some of their most challenging battles to date as they continue their vow to protect New York City.
