Take a moment, and let's compare two photos. Which one do you like more? I think one looks better because the face looks lighter, more tightened, with a clear jawline. And the other looks heavier, without a clear jawline. I think just completely without it, and with saggy skin. But why is there such a difference? And most people assume that the main difference is all about age, fat, or skin condition. But the real cause often lies in tension in the muscles, which control the lower jaw. And this area is much more important than it seems. The tension of this muscle and the condition of the temporomandibular joint influence a huge amount of things: on a facial contour, on asymmetry, on your posture, even neck condition, appearance of a double chin. Just imagine, if this zone becomes overworked or shifted, the lower jaw can be pulled backward, and the face looks heavier, lymph flow slows, and swelling appears. That's why the understanding of these reasons, the reasons of this tension, is the key for a lighter and more lifted face.

But before we start, let's do a little check. But, wait a minute, before we start, please, be extra careful with yourself. If you will feel pain, clicking, discomfort - just STOP! You don't have to do it like I do. Okay, so what we need to do - just open your mouth and see how many fingers you can comfortably place into your mouth. I repeat - comfortably. Without pain, without discomfort. Okay, for me, it's like four fingers, and I feel quite okay. But with the fifth finger, I feel like discomfort and tension here, and that tells me that my muscles are not in a perfect condition. And if you as well feel tightness, discomfort, or even clicking, that means that the muscles around the jaw are likely strained.

So let's break down what's happening. The whole lower jaw moves thanks to eight muscles. And the main ones are the masseter muscle. It's a big and thick mouth muscle at the corner of your face. Temporalis - it's a huge muscle, like here. And medial and lateral pterygoids. That's like internal deep muscles under the jaw, responsible for backward, side-to-side, and forward moves of the lower jaw. When these muscles tense unevenly, the jaw can be shifted left or right, leading to visible asymmetry. And when the deep pterygoid muscles tighten, your jaw can be pulled backward. And that's why the chin looks shorter and the neck folds begin to appear. This also restricts lymph drainage. All the fluid stays in the lower part, and swelling appears along the lower jaw. And, I think, that now it's clear to everybody that it's very important to relieve this tension.

So let's do a couple of exercises, which will help you release this tension. After each exercise, I will ask you to try to feel your face, feel if there is any difference in your condition. Stay, please, present, in your body and be mindful. First of all, to release this muscle, we need to find it. Where is it in our face, how to feel it? So, the masseter muscle is very big. It starts here, from this bone. You can just try to touch with your finger your cheek and this cheekbone. And here, if you feel like a tight muscle, nothing else - that's it. But if you go a little bit further, you can feel teeth and gums, and that means you are not on the muscle.

Okay, and now we need to release it. So, we're gonna make this position of the fingers. And put them here, just near the ear, under the bone, which you can feel. And just put these fingers here, on the muscle. Not here, because here is just just skin. Okay, and now we place fingers here. Try to press a little bit, not very much, but a little bit, like to to go into this muscle. Just try to feel it. Open your mouth, it should stay relaxed, just like this. Don't open it high, don't open it very much, like this, no, it just falls down and stays here. Place, and now we begin to go down to the angle and lower jaw. Mouth can be opened by your fingers while moving a little bit more, that's okay. But don't hold, don't hold your jaw. Just free it. And repeat once again. Just sit up straight, shoulders down, don't move your head forward, just sit upright. And repeat. We can do this exercise up to two minutes. It could be painful a little bit, that's okay. That means only that your muscle is very tensed and that you are doing just the right thing. Just try to breathe - inhale, exhale. Try to breathe through these muscles, just to relax them more and more. Okay, and one more time. Don't be afraid of pulling your skin. That's okay, you are going through the through the muscle, not just skin. You can't do, you can't do anything to it.

Okay, so that was the first exercise. Please write me in the comments how you feel after the first one. Um, I feel like my jaw... uh, I don't want to clench it anymore. Very relaxed, yeah. I would love to to read your comments and how you feel after that.

Now we are going to work with the mobility of a joint. And it as well releases tension of the masseter muscle. So what we need to do is just open your mouth. Close and open your mouth. At eighty percent of your maximum, not at one hundred percent. Just eighty is our maximum. And if you will hear any clicking or discomfort or anything else, just stop at this position, so you don't need to hear this or feel this, this uncomfortable feelings. Okay, just stop before it happens. Even if you open your mouth very very very little, okay? So sit up straight, as always, and try to open slowly and close slowly your mouth. Continue, and I will tell you a little tip. Try to avoid any jerky movements. If your jaw is wobbling, just, you can put your fingers on your chin and try to a little bit control the movement. But not very strict, just try to help it. Yes, not control, but to help it move more steady. And one more tip. Here we are working with our lower jaw. Because sometimes people doing like this. With the upper jaw. No, that's another exercise. So, let's do with the lower jaw. That's why it is better to do everything in front of the mirror. So, we can you can do it from ten to twenty times.

So, and the final one. Just here be extra careful as well. Be very very light, very gentle with yourself. Movement should be very very light and pressure should be, but it should be very very light. Just put your fingers on your lower jaw, on the masseter muscles. And now we need to push a little. Make pushing movements. On one side. On the left side, then on the right side. And you can see that your jaw a little bit moves from side to side. Okay, it should be very very light. Okay, let's do it. Right. Open your mouth. Left, right, left, right. Completely relax your jaw. Most of the pressure should be higher. Here, from the tips of your, of your fingers, under the bone. Breathe, don't forget to breathe. Okay, so.

How do you feel right now? I think that some people, if now look in the mirror, they could see more definition along the jawline, or less heaviness near the jawline. And you can repeat these exercises every day. Especially if you tend to clench your teeth. And, of course, it's not only about the one muscle, that's how our face works. And I hope on that example you understood that everything is possible. And everything can be lifted and released. So, if you have any changes in your face that you don't like at all, for example, jowls, double chin, or, I don't know, even eye bags, nasolabial folds, everything.
