The 5 Countries I'd Escape to Before the World Falls Apart

The five countries wealthy people are going to if everything falls apart. All over the world, we're seeing more conflict, less safety on a day-to-day basis, and also more control. Capital controls, less freedom on moving your wealth, digital currencies, digital ID. And these countries, I put my money where my mouth is. I'm Rafael from Wealthy Expats. I help you protect yourself, your family, and your wealth by choosing the best countries for wealthy people specifically. I invest in these countries. I have residency in these countries. And also the wealthiest people in the world are investing in these countries and sometimes not even telling anybody about it.

The first one, I would say the ultimate plan B, the plan B of plan B's, specifically for high net worth individuals, is Mauritius. [music] I've been to Mauritius. I've made multiple videos on Mauritius. It is a territorial tax [music] country. Essentially, if you don't send your earnings to Mauritius or to a Mauritian bank, they will not be taxed as long as they are foreign sourced. So, you basically have a tax-neutral jurisdiction, while also having a beautiful place, a peaceful place, and easy to get residency. You buy property. $375,000 is the limit, but I would say 500,000 all the way to over a million. And actually, I'm working with property experts in Mauritius. We have a strong team of lawyers and real estate developers in Mauritius. And many wealthy people, not only from Africa, because Mauritius technically it's in Africa, but it's extremely well developed. The healthcare is amazing. The quality of life is very high. But you're also seeing wealth from Europe, from the United States, and a lot of wealth from Dubai. A lot of UAE investors that have UAE residency permits, that buy real estate in the UAE, they are diversifying and buying villas, properties in Mauritius to have it as a perfect plan B. No war is going to happen, it's far away from everything, it's very peaceful. The government has an attitude of peace and no government control over your finances. No tax on your foreign earnings, you can invest as much as you like, they don't try to control all your money. It truly is a free place for wealth and also it's safe on a day-to-day basis. Yeah, you have some petty theft, some small crime here and there, but nothing like what's happening in the US, in Europe [music] and in other parts of the world. If you get the permanent residency by buying real estate, you also have the possibility for citizenship after a couple of years. It's not that easy, but if you contribute to the country in other ways or you buy a significant piece of real estate, then it's definitely possible and the passport is very strong from a visa-free travel perspective.

The second one, we move to South America and that is Paraguay, Paraguay. Very straightforward process to get easy temporary residency and permanent residency, permanent residency through real estate investment. You buy a property, $200,000 or more gets you the investor pass, far away from everything, territorial tax country, relatively safe, we're still talking about Latin America. I'm Latino, in general in Latin America, I'm careful. I look over my shoulder, you never know what might happen, but Paraguay and Asuncion in general are quite safe. It's developing pretty well, although the living standard is going to be less than Mauritius, but it's going in the right direction. The only thing that worries investors about Paraguay is government reporting and government control because for example, they recently announced that they want to know all your crypto holdings. They want you to report your cryptocurrency holdings to the Paraguayan government, even though you don't pay tax on it. It scares off a lot of crypto investors, a lot of large investors. In a country in Latin America, you usually don't tell the government everything you have, all your crypto, because it's a huge security risk. And that puts off a lot of people. But still, it's attracting investors from Europe, from the United States, from other parts of Latin America, even from Dubai, that want to have an easy time extra residency, easy permanent residency, a path to citizenship, much harder than some people advertise it. It's not that easy to get citizenship in Paraguay. But when it comes to residency, when it comes to a plan B, when it comes to buying a small piece of real estate and having it as part of our portfolio, it works very well.

If you want to invest in any of these countries, as well as many other options around the world, and you want proper guidance, click the [music] links in the description. I do this for myself. I do it for clients on a daily basis. Book a call with us. Send us a message. We're very happy to help you.

For wealthy people that want to invest in Europe, but don't want to invest inside the European Union because of the digital euro, because of capital controls, because of potential war, all of that, they can invest geographically in Europe, but still outside of the European Union in Serbia. Now, I'm a Serbian citizen. I invest in Serbia. I have a team in Serbia, a big company in Serbia, and we also help our clients obtain Serbian residency and Serbian citizenship. Serbia maintains a balance between East and West. They have good relationships with China and Russia, and also with Europe and the United States. Even though they do have some territorial conflicts, it's still a relatively peaceful place. It's a very safe place compared, for example, Belgrade, comparing it to other capitals in Europe, it is much safer. There's a lot of opportunities for investing into real estate and buying land and then building your own house and having it as a plan B, for example, for a German that wants to have a plan B very close by that they can take a quick flight, land somewhere, it's outside of the EU, it works out pretty well, and also there's the possibility of citizenship if you're a high net worth individual. The same goes for Montenegro. Now, Montenegro will join the European Union in the next couple of years. They're already heavily aligning with the EU, for example, canceling visa-free travel for Russians and Chinese travelers because they need visas to the Schengen area. Now, they will need visas to Montenegro. So, they're definitely aligning with the EU. It's not part of the EU yet. There is still a culture of freedom, of a low taxes, of doing whatever you want as long as it's legal. So, the culture really matters in these countries. The same thing in Poland or Croatia or Slovakia, countries that are part of the European Union, but they don't try to control everything in your life. They don't try to take all your money. They don't try to tax you at 50% like other countries in the EU.

Back to South America, we forgot to mention Uruguay, Uruguay, the safest country in Latin America. A lot of investors look at Uruguay as a place to get permanent residency, which is actually way more straightforward than many other countries. And it's a country where you can buy real estate and not have to live there in order to comply with the permanent residency requirements. So, if you're specifically an investor and you want to have properties all over the world, that's why I'm mentioning these countries, having property in Mauritius, having property in Paraguay, having property in Uruguay, maintaining that permanent residency, having property in Serbia and Montenegro. And the last country I'll talk about, you can keep those properties for your perfect plan B. So, you also have a home somewhere. More properties can cost more hassle and having to take care of all these different apartments and houses you have all over the world, but it's great to have somewhere that you can actually go and live. I love to know that I have a couple properties that I can always move there and I have the residency already and I have a home to go to. I feel comfortable there. I don't have to find an Airbnb or a hotel. So, Uruguay for example, high quality of life, relatively safe, access to water as well, which is a criticism that people have about Paraguay that is a landlocked and easily controlled by Brazil and Argentina for example. Uruguay on the other hand has the sea that makes some investors way more comfortable, stable institutions, a lot less organized crime than other places in Latin America.

And the last country here specifically for having a second passport, a second citizenship. I've always said having a second citizenship is having insurance on your freedom and having possibilities apart from your main passport. If your country decides to control your capital, control your travel, cancel your passport, restrict you in any other way, having a second passport provides you that freedom and that is why Vanuatu is still extremely popular and countries in the Caribbean, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica. I have St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship. I obtained it over 5 years ago. These countries, they're small islands. They don't have that much power on a global stage, but they give out citizenship in exchange for a donation and wealthy people around the world are not only looking for residency, permanent residency, having property somewhere, but also looking for a second passport. Recently, I helped an American client of mine buy property in Mauritius. He has permanent residency in Mauritius. He has a villa for him and his family and also he's getting Vanuatu citizenship. To have a second passport, he's not going to renounce his US citizenship. Maybe in the future he applies for Mauritius citizenship as well, but he's diversified, two passports, comfortable, permanent residency in a stable country. For now, it's good and he's going to start looking at other opportunities around the world. Another extremely popular country, or actually territory, for wealthy people is the Cayman Islands. Tax-free, completely, neutral, peaceful, and very private. You can check out the video that I made here explaining why ultra-high-net-worth individuals, and specifically billionaires, are choosing Cayman Islands for their perfect Plan B.
