How I Automated My Finances with Claude Cowork (In 10 Minutes)

KJ Rainey26:42

Transcription

This is my personal finance dashboard inside of Claude. It tracks my spending. It structures my savings and even helps me cancel unwanted subscriptions, which has saved me like $600 in the past few months. And today, I want to give you this finance dashboard. I'm going to show you how to set it up in your Claude, how to customize it with whatever features you want, and how to keep it updated so you stay in complete control of your finances. I've been working on this one for weeks. I feel like it's really going to help you guys. I'm excited. So, let's jump in.

So, this is how the system actually works. It's run through one plugin inside of Cloud, which I'll show you guys how to set up super easily. And inside of that plugin, there are three different skills. The first skill is just a basic setup skill. It's going to walk you start to finish through setting this thing up for the first time. The next skill is a customization skill, which will allow you to change whatever you want at any point in this process, whether it be now or months later. And the last skill is a monthly update. So, every single month you have new finances to add. This allows you to add it super easily and keep your dashboard up to date. So, let's go over how to set these things up.

All right, guys. Let's install this plugin in your cloud. So, what you will need is the Claude desktop app. Um, you're going to need the $20 a month or higher subscription. So, I'm on the max plan, but all you need is the $20 one because we're going to be using what's called Live Artifacts. This is going to allow you to have your dashboard inside of Claude and keep it updated. Um, and it's always going to be personal and right there for you to view inside the app, which is awesome.

So, to download the plugin, it's very simple. You just go to the link in the description. It'll take you to this page called YouTube Resources. Completely free, of course. All you got to do is click on the KJ's finance dashboard plugin. Inside of YouTube resources tab inside of the classroom, like I said, the link should take you there, but if it doesn't, that's where it is. You're going to click on that. You're going to click download. It's going to say there's no preview available because there's no pictures or anything. All you got to do is click download. It'll pull it up over here. And you want to drag that to your desktop or any kind of folder. And now let's install this in cloud.

All we're going to do is go to co-work. Make sure you're checked into co-work. Click on new task. It doesn't matter whether you're in a project or anything like that. And you're going to drag the plugin into the chat. And you're going to say, "Install this Claude plugin, please." And now Claude should recognize that this is a plugin to install in coowwork and uh he will use a tool to help you install it. Now I already have this installed so we'll actually just see what happens. Um, but this is how you should do it. Make sure that you include Claude plugin cuz sometimes if you don't say that he won't know what to do with the file.

All right. And just like that, Claude has pulled up the plugin and I'm going to click allow to preview this file on the right. Now, if you're ever wor worried about the safety concerns of any plugin, this is where you want to check. You can have Claude to like check it for you, but I recommend just going through and like looking at each skill to see what they do to make sure there's nothing nefarious in here. Now, I always, you know, this is going to be a clean plugin for you guys. But in case you're ever scared about that, go through and read this and it'll tell you everything that's in the plugin before you would save it. So, uh, I made this, so obviously I think it's safe. So, I'm going to do save plugin. And just like that, it should save this plugin into cloud.

Now, if you want to see this plugin in your cloud, you can go to manage whenever you save it or you can go to customize. So, if I click on customize, I will see these plugins on the left, my personal plugins. If you want to see Claude's plugins, you can just do browse plugins. Um, but I have a personal tab here since I already have some downloaded. And now I can see this finance dashboard plugin on the left. So, if I click on that, I can see the different skills that are inside of this plugin that we talked about earlier. So, we've got the setup skill, the customized dashboard skill, and the new month dashboard skill.

Now, let's actually use this thing. So, all you're going to need to do is create a new folder where you're going to do your finances in every month. So, I've already created a new folder called finance dashboard video test here. And then all you want to do is you want to grab the transactions you have from every month this year previously. And then um we're going to use those to load our dashboard with data. If you don't know how to get your transactions from your bank account or whatever you use, um just ask Claude and say, "Hey, I bank with Chase Business. How can I get the transaction list?" And he will walk you through getting your CSVs. Now, I just have some example data here. It's not my real finances. I've got example data from January through November to show you guys how to set it up. And then I have the example data from December to show you how to add a new month. So, let's go ahead and get started with this plugin.

So, we're going to select the folder that we created. So, I'm going to select this finance dashboard video folder. Just like that, I've selected it. This tells Claude that we're going to be working in this folder that we just made. I'm going to change this um for act without asking just for the sake of the video, but you should probably leave this on ask before acting um if you're new to Claude. Now, if you I'm actually going to continue. I'm going to turn off any connectors I have because we don't need any connectors for this. It's going to save some tokens. Um, and you can see the plugins that we have enabled right here in the plugins. And so, you can manage that or just see the different skills.

Now, I am on the $100 plan, so I'm going to use Opus. But if you're on the $20 plan, I highly recommend using Sonnet. I built this to work on Sonnet 4.6 or 4.8, whatever you're seeing when this video comes out. Um, and so if you want to save tokens, use Sonnet. If you want to, if you have a lot of tokens to burn, just use Opus. I built it to work on either.

Now, all we're going to do to use the plugin is type slash finance dashboard setup. This is going to call the plugin and use that skill. Now, I'm going to run that and we're going to see what it says. And I've built this where it should walk you through every single step um without missing anything. I've done a lot of testing on this. It should work for you. But if it doesn't um just literally ask Claude to try again or send in a screenshot, whatever. But let's walk through it. First question is where do you want these finance files saved? I'm going to say use current location because I've already selected this folder. If you haven't made a folder yet, now is when you want to create that folder and select it. I'm going to say use current location. And it might already read the CSVs from this folder since they're already in there. But we'll see what it does.

All right, it says got the folder. It found two CSVs already there. It's already taking a peek at them. I'm going to tell it to not use the December one so I can show you guys how to update the plugin when that when the time comes. But uh, yeah, let's see what it does. All right. Now, Claude is running through the checklist that I've programmed him to do. And if you don't see this right-hand side, you can click on this open sidebar and you will see the steps that he's going to walk us through as we um build out this dashboard. So, super sick. All right. So, Claude found the CSVs on his own, but normally he will ask you to give those to him or put them in the folder. So, I'm going to say it says, "Are these personal or business experience?" These are going to be personal and also I only want you to use the CSV of January through November. We'll do the the the December one later. Cool. So, I've programmed this to you can either do personal or business. And you can you can combine them if you want, but honestly, that kind of defeats the purpose. So, um you can do these for both your business and personal. I've used the same plugin on both of mine. So, it's really cool.

All right. So, Claude is now going to skip the December one, so we can use that later. Um, so now what Claude's going to do is it's it's going to go through the transactions and make a list of categories. This is going to be important. you can see where your money is going and track where it's going month over month to each category. So, the first thing we want to do is help Claude make sure he gets this right. So, Claude's going to do a lot of work. He's going to guess about the categories, but I wanted to give you the ability to change them. So, right now, Claude is giving us some categories. We're going to go through and see if we can um fix these up a bit. So, housing, utilities, groceries, transportation, travel. Um, okay. Shopping health. Cool. So, let's add some changes. I'm going to click on the um kind of other section in this Claude question tab. Okay, Claude. I want to combine housing and utilities into one category. Also, let's combine health and fitness. And that looks good. Okay. So, this example data that I have here doesn't have a lot of crazy transactions. So, these are pretty clean, but you have full customization. Like, you can change these right now when you're building it. You can change it later. And so, uh, yeah, we gave Claude the categories.

Now, we're going to get into building out this dashboard. The first thing Claude is going to do after that is he's going to ask you about taxes, um, savings, and tithes or giving. So, I'm going to say like this guy is already he's he's employed. He's not self-employed, so his taxes are already taken out. So, I'm just going to say zero for taxes. Um, next is going to be tither or giving. I'm going to say he's going to tithe 10%. And the last bit is savings. Um, so how much do you want to do for savings? I'm going to say 20%. All right, cool. Now, with that information, Claude is going to start building the dashboard. Now, this is what's going to take the most amount of tokens. But if you're on Sonnet, I've programmed this where it should be just fine. But if you want to be super careful, wait to build this dashboard on the weekend sometime when you're not using all of your tokens. Um, but yeah, once you build it, it's going to be built and it won't require so many tokens. So, and as Claude is building this, I want to kind of go over some of the magic of this plugin. So, the way that I designed it is it's going to save all your preferences into your own personal preferences file. And so, anytime you make a change now or in the future, it's going to save it to that file so that it always has memory of how you do your finances and how you want your dashboard to look, which is really sick.

If you guys want to know how I build these custom plugins, it takes a long time and a lot of work. I'm probably going to make a course on this in the school. So, if you're interested, join that and you'll see it come out hopefully in the next couple weeks. But these plugins are insanely powerful, especially for business, but really in any aspect of your life. But you have to know how to build them robust and build them right. And um any you content creators out there, this is how you make some good content and actually like you can even sell these plugins. Um, so yeah, let's get back to building the dashboard.

All right, let's see what this man has cooked up. He is building it now. Um, we can see also I've given you guys the ability to have an HTML. And so if you don't want to use the live artifact, if you just want to open this dashboard up inside of any web browser, you want to send it to another computer or something, if you check inside of the folder, it will also generate an HTML file. So you can see that there and I can click on it to view it. Um, so let's see what Claude has done. And just like that, we have a finance dashboard. So, he's still building this right now. And you're you're able to actually view the dashboard on the side. But what we're actually going to do is we're going to take a look inside of Live Artifacts to see the entire dashboard. But I will show you what happens if you um click on the HTML. It will just open this dashboard in your browser, which is awesome. It's so sick.

Now, if we go back to Claude, what he's doing now is he's just saving all these preferences to your user um file that I've basically programmed him to create to save these things. So, as soon as he's done with that, we will take a look at the dashboard inside of Live Artifacts. So, here we go. Um, he's doing some checks to make sure everything looks good. The dashboard is ready. And so, the first thing he'll do is he'll give you the HTML, but um the artifact has been created. So to do that you can come over here to live artifacts and now um we will see the KJ's finance dashboard.

All right guys and here is our full dashboard. So as you can see at the top we have the overview. Um, this is where you can see every single month kind of click through them side by side. You can see how much you made, how much you spend and then the net of income minus spend. If we come down to the categories, you can actually see where your spending is on this little like kind of pie chart thing, then we can see the transfers that you need to make. And so, as we can see, this guy doesn't have any tax set aside. So, this is something we can talk to Claude about to just remove this because we don't need it. This is the be beautiful part about this. You can fully customize this to whatever you want. any kind of feature you want to add, anything you want to remove, like it's fully customizable and it's free if you already have Claude. So, it is just awesome. Um, so here you can check off when you've actually done your tithe or done your savings and it autocalculates what you should do based on the percentages that you gave it, which is just so so nice. It's so sick. Um, here we have the savings tracker and we'll explain how to use this in a second. And then we have monthly insights and then a just encouraging Bible verse on each tab which is super cool.

Next we have transactions tab. And so if you go over here we can see all of our transactions. Um, it's actually a little bit glitched. So that's something we need to talk to Claude about there. Let's actually go ahead and let's actually do that right now. Let's go ahead and show Claude. So this is a little bit messed up. I'm going to screenshot it and just say, "Hey Claude, this is messed up." And so if we go back to our chat by clicking on edit, I'm going to tell Claude, hey Claude, on the transactions tab, the kind of date and description and category, amount and status is glitched. It is showing halfway through the transactions um during the first three instead of being at the top of the transactions. I've attached a screenshot. So to fix this, it's very simple. Um, you just screenshot it, send it to him, and he will take care of the rest. And just like that, Claude has spotted the bug, which is still so freaky, but I don't know if it'll ever get old to me how crazy AI is, especially when it comes to to coding. It's only getting better. Um, so now what he's doing is he's actually editing the um dashboard builder. He's going to run it again, and it's going to have a brand new artifact. And so, let's close that, and let's see what Claude gives us now.

All right. And now Claude is updating the artifact. Just like that, it is fixed. How about that? Super super cool. And so let's go ahead and go back to our dashboard in full screen. We're going to go to um live artifacts. I'm going to click on dashboard v2. And now our transactions are fixed. How cool is that? And so in this transactions, you can see all the months together or you can click through each month. And so we're pretending that November just finished.

Now, what you're going to do, this is this is where you're actually going to save money because all this is cool, but I want you guys to have hundreds if not thousands of more dollars in your pocket to spend on good lifebringing things and not just subscriptions that you really shouldn't be paying for or stuff that you even forgot you were paying for. Here's where the magic happens. I want you to come through and you're going to review your transactions of the last month. You're going to make sure that it's in the right category, which is super clean. And then you're going to mark could cancel or cancelled. So, way that I like to do this is if there's anything I I can cancel right now, like let's say like I know I'm not using HBMO, I'm going to say cancelled. I'm going to go into HBO and I'm going to cancel it right then, right then and there. But let's say that there's something that I need to check with my wife or maybe I just don't know if I need it or not. I'm going to label it could cancel. So, I'm going go through and do that with a couple of these. I'm going to say, uh, you know, I could cancel that. I definitely could cancel this. I'm cancel that. And so, like I said, you're supposed to go and cancel these right now. Do not let them suck any more money out of your bank account. Cancel it. Um, so I'm just going to do that on some random charges here. And, uh, yeah.

And now what I'm going to do is right now this is not in the overview of section of November. See, oh, it already is. What? I don't know. Somehow cloud just knows automatically, which is sick. But normally what I would have to do is click refresh and export. And this is going to make sure that it saves all those changes that you just made. So if I click on this overrides, I want to save this in the finance folder. So every time you do your finances in this folder, save this refresh there. you'll be good to go. Now, all we have to do is reload it. And just like that, we can see how much we could cancel and cancelled. You can see how much you're saving every single month, which is awesome.

Now, moving on to month versus month. This is probably the coolest section. Now, this will all look pretty like kind of boring if you get paid the same income every month like this guy does from a 9 to5. No shame on that, but it will look kind of boring. Um, but you can see your income versus spend and you can see your net every single month. So, like I said, this guy, our sample data here doesn't vary much, but the coolest part is being able to see the spend over every month versus each category. So, you can see when something spikes, which is super super cool. And let's say that you want to add a feature where you could add a note to whenever there was a spike. You can like say like, okay, this is why it was so high, you know, don't do this again. We can tell Cloud to add that and he can add the feature. It's amazing. So, we can see this guy starts slowly eating out more and more every single month. Um, entertainment is kind of up and down. His travel happened in these months. His shopping is down, which is great. In November, health and fitness is kind of the same. So, yeah, you can see your categories. Super super cool.

The next tab is the budget. So, if you want to set a budget for your categories, you can do that here. So, let's say I set the budget on subscriptions to be 30 bucks. It's going to tell me every single month um what I'm spending on subscriptions. It's going to tell me the average. It's going to tell me whether I'm overbudget or on track. So, let's say we were going to do groceries for $215. It'll show you which month you were under budget and which months you were over. And it'll give you the average and it'll tell you whether you're overbudget or on track. And if you get close, it should kind of do like a yellow thing. Yeah. So, whenever you're getting close to being way over budget, it'll say like, you know, watch it. It'll total those up up here. And as always, some more awesome verses at the bottom to encourage us and teach us the word of God.

And our last tab here is labeled insights. Now, in this insights tab, you're going to get basically just some notes that you can take a look at um whether you're doing well, just what happened in your finances that Claude is seeing, kind of some trends to look at, wins and losses, and yeah, just some cool things to kind of get a more better understanding of your finances.

So, let's actually do something crazy. Let's customize this thing. Cuz like really the the wildest part is that you can make this whatever you want. This has never before been possible unless you had a team of engineers. So, let's try something crazy. Let's try something nuts. Um, I'm going to go to here. I'm going to say, "All right, Claude, I want to add a brand new tab to this dashboard called super savings." And what I want you to do is to take a look at every transaction um just from the previous month. And I want you to tell me what is every single thing I could possibly cut out of my life that isn't necessary. So the only things super necessary are going to be kind of groceries, transportation to work. Um, but besides that, I want you to basically tell me in every category how much I could save if I cut back everything. Um, just for fun. So I want you to build that tab. Okay.

So now I'm going to fire that off to Claude. If you don't have the voice to speech thing, I've got a a free thing in my school which will show you how to set it up for free. Um, I use Super Whisper. I think it's like $8 a month, but I use the free one for a long time and it works honestly just as well as long as you're clear with your speech. So, now Claude's going to think through that. He's going to build us a new tab. So, let's watch it happen live. And just like that, Claude is off to work checking out November transactions and building this new tab. Like I said, I want to get it in your guys' head because this has never before been possible. So, we don't normally think like this, but you can create almost anything you want. It's never been a better time to be like alive besides when like Jesus walked the earth in Jerusalem. Besides that, like we are so blessed to literally be limited by nothing but our creativity. And I know a lot of you guys are still kind of like just playing in the dirt. Um, guys, we have the craziest tools ever. Like, let your imagination run wild. Test this stuff. Um, even pay for the max plan just to just to mess around. It's so much fun. And you'd be surprised how many amazing problems you can solve in your life just by having some imagination, being a kid again, having some creativity. And so, let's give Claude a second and let's see how well he does with my creativity here.

All right. All right. And just like that, we have the super savings tab over here on the right. But what I will say is this is the most usage inensive part is actually building and designing the dashboard. So if you're not um on the max plan, then make sure you're on sonnet with the model, but also try to use your, you know, usage wisely with this. Don't create new tabs all day. Wait till you have new usage to kind of customize it even more so you keep your usage good. Um, so if you look over here, we see the super savings. I'm actually gonna open this in the live artifact. So, I'm g come over here to that. And now, boom, we can see the super savings tab that Claude made. Apparently, we can save like 12 grand a year if we did all this savings. And it did this on its own. It actually tells us what we can do to save um instead of the transactions we made, which is awesome. This is so freaking sick. I mean, this is like a lot of uh we can save a lot of money here, which is wild. I'm I'm actually going to go put this into my actual dashboard like right now because this is freaking sick.

But now, what we want to do is how do we update this? So, I've actually already kind of done this, but I'm going to show you guys how to update this dashboard using just the update skill. So, what I did is um I went to new task. I chose the same folder we're working in and I did slash finance new month dashboard. That's all I did. And I gave it the CSV for December. And so I just took the CSV for December. I just tossed it in. It'll ask you for it if you don't. And I say, you know, update my finance dashboard. Cool. And I ran that off. And this is the chat that I just did that in a second ago. So I'll walk you through what happened. Um, it checked out it used all these tools. It looked at our preferences. It grabbed the December CSV and then it simply updated the dashboard. That's it. It's that simple. I've kind of done already done all the work for you guys. And if we come back to the dashboard, we can see we now have December. And so, all you want to do now every new month is to go back in your transactions, go to the new month, go through them one at a time, and see if you could cancel them or cancel them, and then hit refresh. and it will then update to your um December overview and you can see how much you cancelled, how much you could cancel.

All right, so now I'll show you guys how to customize this dashboard at any point now or later in the future. All you got to do is do slash finance customization dashboard. Now, you're just going to run this and it will basically walk you through changing whatever you want on your dashboard in a brand new fresh tab so uses as least usage as possible and it does it cleanly because it's a new chat. And so, make sure you're selected in the right folder that you already have your finances in. Make sure you selected Sonnet if you're on a lower tier plan. And then we're going to um fire this off. Now, I've already done this and I'll show you I'll kind of walk you through the update, but here's what I did. I told Claude that I want to make coffee its own category for only December and months going forward. So I gave it a bit of a challenge. And so Claude went and used the skill to update the dashboard. But he screwed up a little bit. Um, when I opened the dashboard, I couldn't see this new coffee category. And so what I did was I sent a screenshot and I told Claude, "Hey, this is the problem. You can see it in the screenshot." I gave it a hypothesis for what I thought the problem could be. But it turns out he just wasn't updating the um artifact. He was updating the HTML but not the artifact in Claude. And so once he did that, here is what we got. So super sick. Here we can see in December we have a category called coffee. And so other months don't have this, but in December we do. And if we look at our transactions, we can see the coffee right here for all of the coffee transactions, which is absolutely sick. So yeah, use the skill in a fresh chat anytime you want to change anything from your dashboard after you've already built it. And yeah, you are all set to take this plugin and absolutely freaking run with it.

And on a real kind of personal note, I've always struggled with personal finance and I felt like this year God has just been convicting me to be a better steward of the money that he's entrusted to me. And this was uh a huge part of me growing in this in this way uh spiritually and financially. And so I hope you take this serious and kind of use this to just enrich your life because I can't explain to you guys the amount of blessing that comes through just being at peace with your finances. Also, if you guys struggle around money, if you have a lot of greed or a lot of fear around money, I'm going to put in a playlist of some incredible videos that really grew me a lot as a person. And if you're struggling with money in any way, I highly recommend you check those out. So, I'll leave a link to that in the description. But as always, thank you guys for watching. I hope you were blessed this video. If you want to come join us inside of the free AI school, I'd love to have you over there and to meet you. So yeah, I'll see you guys in the next video. Enjoy your dashboard.
