What if I told you that by the end of this video, you will have saved 25% or more of your total monthly ad spend with one little adjustment? A small message we're going to send to KDP. That's exactly what I'm going to show you how to do, coming up in this video.
So, the first thing we're going to cover is what I call the golden rules to follow when it comes to Amazon ads. I wouldn't look at these as suggestions; I would look at these as you've got to follow these rules if you want to make money.
The second thing is complete campaign setup for new books, specifically for those of you who have a little budget, no budget, or you're really under $4,000 a month in ad spend. I'm going to show you the best way, in my opinion, on how you can set up your campaigns to maximize profit.
And then, the last thing at the end of the video, I'm going to cover that little tip, that little secret on how to save up to 25% or more of your entire monthly ad spend every single month. I shared this secret with my school community group earlier today, and they were all freaking out about it. You definitely want to stick around until the end for that.
Now, I do want to be clear, what won't be covered in this video is anything to do with optimization or scaling. The reason is, I did want to keep this a slightly shorter video. But if you would like me to do a future video on optimizing ads and scaling your ads, if we can get 200 likes on this video, I will be sure to do an in-depth video on that. I would love to, because I want to show you guys exactly what I did to take this book from zero to just over $10,000 in royalties with a profit of $673 in only 3 months. So let's get 200 likes on this video. Come on, I know you can do it.
And before we dive into the goods, the Publish and Profit 5-day challenge, it is officially underway. We are about to start again. It is free to join. I show you how to write, publish, and profit from your very own book in just five days. Always free to join, always will be. So make sure you check out the link in the description for that.
So, Amazon ads, quick overview. How do Amazon ads work? Keep in mind, Amazon ads are designed to do one thing, and that is to simply amplify your book. Imagine you have, you're speaking on stage, you're standing up on stage, you're trying to speak, but you have no microphone. Who's going to hear you? Only the first few rows are going to hear you. But as soon as you hold a mic, or you get a wired mic, whatever, as soon as you have a microphone, you're able to amplify your voice, so everybody in the room is able to hear you. That's exactly what Amazon ads do.
The caveat is this: it doesn't matter if your book is good or bad, it's going to amplify your book the same. If you get up there and you stumble through your speech because you're unprepared, well, the people in the back are still getting the same speech. It's a bad, ill-prepared speech. So if your book is no good, Amazon ads are just going to amplify the fact that your book sucks, and that's going to equal, well, a lot of wasted money in ads. It's going to equal a lot of bad reviews and just an overall really crappy Kindle publishing experience for you.
But if your book is done correctly, and it's an amazing piece of art, Amazon ads are such a powerful tool. I want you to imagine, even if it's hard right now, if you could spend a dollar on Amazon ads and you get $5 back in royalties, that's where you can literally be within the next few months if you pay attention to this video.
Another thing about Amazon ads is they are a must in 2025. Don't even think about publishing your book and not having Amazon ads running for your book. Gone are the days of doing that. It's just not possible. Now, there's so much competition, the marketplace has shifted. If you want to be serious, you have to budget for Amazon ads. But in this video, like I promised, I am going to be showing you how you can start running ads with little or no money.
So let's talk about the golden rule for Amazon ads. So we touched on this already, you've got to have a great book. If you don't have a great book, Amazon ads, they're still going to work, but you're just going to lose money instead of making money. But the ads are still working, the ads are still doing their job, getting you in front of more customers. It's just the customers aren't going to buy your book because your book doesn't look good. So you have to have a great book in order for Amazon ads to give you a great return.
You have to have a minimum of 15 to 20 reviews. Now, when I say 15 to 20, I want you to also keep in mind how competitive is your niche. I'm going to use the example of fitness. If you're in a fitness niche like chair yoga, 15 to 20 reviews is nothing because that niche is so competitive. Yes, you can start running ads after 15 to 20 reviews, but you're probably going to have a very high ACOS still because in a competitive niche like that, your book's not going to stand out, especially with ads, until you're running, until you have rather 50 to 75 reviews. So you do need to keep that number in mind based on the size of your niche and how competitive it is.
The next point is commit for 3 months, 30 minutes a day, every day, looking at your ads. If there was one thing that completely changed my experience with Amazon ads from 6 months ago to not knowing anything about how they worked and just losing money and hating them, to feeling confident enough to show all of you what I've been doing with Amazon ads, it was this. It's not sexy, it wasn't fun, it was very frustrating for the first two months, but now I really look forward to it. I don't even look at them every day anymore. But for three months, every day, right there, I sat there and I looked at my Amazon ads every day while I had breakfast, and I looked at what was working, how much money I was losing every day, until I started noticing patterns. And I did that literally every single day. That's how I started my day. And I don't do that now, I only look at them a couple times a week now. That one activity alone, as much as I hated it in the beginning, oh my God, it transformed my entire Amazon ads business, my entire publishing business.
Focus on where you get the most data. When you're brand new, don't even try running Amazon ads outside of the United States. What you need is data. You don't need anything else. And to get the most data, you're going to get it from the US because it has the biggest marketplace.
And then this is another very, very important one, and I think it's key for a lot of you who are taking different people's courses and everything, and that's cool, but you have to understand, okay, the way they teach how to run Amazon ads is the way they teach it. Somebody else is going to teach it another way. Somebody else is going to teach it another way. Somebody else is going to teach it another way. I'm going to teach it another way. There is no one way. Just like if I ask you, make me a steak, there's no one way to make a steak. You could argue the right way is, you know, medium rare, but how we get to that delicious medium rare, you know, are we using butter? Are we using rosemary? Are we using thyme? Are we using a bit of garlic? We using a bit of salt and pepper? Like, there's so many different variables. The same comes to how you run your Amazon ads. There's so many different ways that you can run them to make them profitable. There's an overall framework. Like with a steak, what do you need? Well, you need a steak, a book, and you need heat, I guess, money. Right? But if you just throw your steak into a hot pan and forget about anything else, well, it will cook 100%. It's going to cook, but it's not going to turn out very nice. So you have to kind of find tune it based on how you want it. That's the exact same thing you have to do with Amazon ads. Don't just get hooked on one person's method, one person's teachings. You have to kind of take what they're doing and you have to make the adjustments based on what's working well for you. And that goes back to, you've got to commit 30 minutes every day for 3 months so you can learn what works for you.
So now, let's get into campaign setup. So what we're going to do is we're going to set up four campaigns. We're going to set up a manual campaign with, um, broad keywords and exact keywords, as well as exact products. And we're going to set up a category campaign as well. Okay, those are the four ads I transformed my business with. So I'm going to show you how to set up those.
No, we're not setting up any auto campaign. I would not personally, I wouldn't advise any new person to set up an auto campaign in the beginning unless you have some more experience and you're able to start catching things. But auto campaigns can really kill your ACOS really quickly if you're not careful, especially if you're not moderating them every single day. So we're not setting up auto campaigns, we're just setting up those four.
So first thing, we have to do is we have to select keywords for the broad and exact. So where do you find keywords? Well, there's a couple different places. My main keyword that I want customers to type. So for example, we're going to use chair yoga for seniors. So that would be the main keyword, right? If my main keyword is chair yoga for seniors, okay, I'm going to go into my little document tracker. So I just simply open up an Excel sheet and I'm going to type chair yoga for seniors. That's it. That would be like the first keyword that I want to be running ads to because it's my main keyword. I'm also going to show you how to use Publisher Rocket. I think it's super important, especially for running ads, to grab some more keywords. And we're going to keep a list organized in Google Sheets, and we're only looking for 15 to 20 keywords max. And then we're going to choose our top 10 to roll with. And I'm going to show you my thought process thinking that I'm starting a brand new book in the chair yoga for seniors niche.
First off, let's find rocket. Okay, so I've already entered my books as, okay, I'm in this niche, so I know a little bit about it, so I can transfer that experience to you. So I already entered my books as, and if you don't have rocket for whatever reason, link in the description to go grab it. Then we're going to enter our, um, our seven keywords. Then we're going to have, now these are the seven keywords, FYI, from your KDP dashboard, from right? So those seven keywords is what we're doing. The instructions are like super, super easy, that's why I'm just kind of glossing over this part, but you can figure this out.
So now we're going to select books that are similar, similar to yours, okay? So they've already selected a few, okay? What I typically would do during this part is, I guess I'll just do it. So I have chair yoga for seniors here. Let me put books here, maybe no books. Okay, let me just show you what, right? Okay, so what I would do is, because I want books that are similar to mine, so I'm going to have, um, okay, so I'm going to pick some ASINs, right? Because I want these best-selling books. So I'll just go and pick these, um, oh, well, they updated the cover. Um, I'll just go and pick some of these best-selling ones in the niche, okay? Let's see this one. All right, Lind Young, you're a newbie, aren't you? Jeez. All right, okay, all right, all right, all right. So I'm just going to grab those for now, okay? And then whatever that button said is what I was clicking on.
Okay, so there's a couple different things that we have here. We have keyword targets, book targets, category bestseller targets, and comparable author targets. So search terms related to your seven keywords. So I'm just going to open that up, and what I typically look for is the ones that have green, right? And it doesn't look like any of these are going to be green, so that's kind of weird. Oh well, nothing green there either. Linky category, right? Nope, nothing there. Huh. All right, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing. Wow, okay, cool. Search terms for Amazon has liked for your book. All right, here, here we are. So then what I'm going to do is, we can either add a check mark here, and it's going to move them over to this list, so we can either just copy the list, excuse me, or export the list, okay, and save it, right? Um, I'm just going to go through these, grab them all.
Okay, now I am going to, like, I am going to skip the ones like "reading chair." I'm not going to use that one because I know right now, on a brand new book, there's no way like "reading chair" is going to be super relevant. Now, it could be, but I'm not, for the, not for the campaigns I'm going to start off with, I'm not going to use a keyword like that. Chair exercises DVD, I rank really well for DVD and spiral bindings for my yoga books for some reason. I don't have spiral bindings, and I have videos, but I do not have DVDs yet. Those are some of my two strongest keywords. I don't know why. So I always end up choosing some of those obscure ones as well, just because they're working for me. So that's something you test on your own, right? Like, test it, see if it works for you, it might not.
Okay, so let's just say I have these keywords now, okay? So I can either copy them, or I can export it, and it'll just give it to me as an Excel sheet, okay? All right. Or I wonder if I can just go copy list and then if I can just put it back in my, if I can put it here? Yeah, look at that. Okay, cool. That's easy.
Now, um, now let's do the category ones. I typically, I don't really, I don't use rocket for the categories. I just, I go into the categories and I just go search myself. Yeah, I don't like, I guess you could, I haven't played around with this enough to look at the categories. Now, these are the categories that I already defined that we'll do in a second anyways. So, and then book targets. Wow, I'll just show you what I do for book targets, okay? So now that we have some keywords here, right? We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. Okay, so now that we have, we have the keywords for our broad and exact match, we'll dive into those a bit more in a second. We want to select the product. So here's what I do for selecting the products, okay? Um, I go back to my Incognito rower, sorry, I'm just 100% risk-free. I think that might actually be against Amazon advertising policies because, interesting. Um, okay, so what I'm going to do is, I want to target for products. I want to target the best books possible that are all on the front page, especially as a new book. One, I'm going to get that new, uh, that new release badge very quickly, so I'm going to have a badge that helps me compete with some of the bigger players. Okay, two, we have the honeymoon period, so we are getting, you know, a little bit of a boost, which also helps us compete with some of the bigger players. Okay, and, um, honestly, those are the two big reasons. But so what I'm going to do is, I'm going to look at these and I'm going to be like, all right, cool. So yes, I want to compete with with that one. Oops, and I'm just going to put it, start pasting the ASINs, the ASINs down over here of the top selling books.
Now, what would I avoid? I would avoid any books that have, um, that have reviews like over like 500, right? Because chances are, competing with that, it might be a little, a little tough. But for everything else, I want to compete with, um, with these. Now, notice I am selecting the ones that are spending the most money right now on ads, right? These ones right here, they're spending a crap ton on ads right now. And so if we can show up on their product page, well, they've already paid to get the customer there, and we're not going to pay as much as they are to show up on their product page. So that's a, that's kind of a way you can kind of hack your way into some of the bigger players' thing. And I'll show you what we, what we do with with that when we get into placements, okay? Um, so I'm just going to go through and look for low BSRs ranking on the first page and copy and paste all of those ASINs.
So now I got some ASINs, copy and pasted here from scraping the top selling or the top ranking books on the first page. Okay, the ones that have most of the traffic, that's where I want to show up. Now, there are other ways that you can also set up additional product or additional ASIN targeting campaigns, but we're not going to get into those in this video because I don't want it to be longer than probably already is.
Okay, so now let's walk through, um, a campaign setup step by step. First thing we're going to look at. So I'm already inside my, uh, dashboard here for Amazon ads. So we're doing a product campaign, not a brand campaign. So make sure you select the product. Add format, are we doing a custom text format or standard text format? Honestly, if you, I've tried to do testing on whether custom text or standard, I've never come to any, um, any 100% conclusion on which one converts better or not. So if you want to write some custom copy, go for it. If you don't, like, nine times out of 10, I just do standard ad because that's what most people are going to, they're used to seeing, unless it's like something very unique like for the holidays. I wrote some custom ones and whatnot. But yeah, most of the time it's just standard. Okay, ad groups, I just leave it alone. Then I'm going to select my book. Okay, so I'll select my, my, my book. Always, always, always only one book. We're not selecting both, we're not doing paperback and hardcover, we're just, it's just one campaign, one product.
Now, for targeting, okay, automatic, manual. We're doing manual targeting, okay? We're doing keyword targeting in the beginning. Okay, now here for keyword targeting. So there's suggested, there's enter list or upload a file. So like that file that we just downloaded from rocket, you can essentially just upload it here and Amazon would grab all the keywords from it. Or you're just going to enter the list that we had here. Now, we want to do broad for this particular one. Then we're going to set up another one, and that's going to be our exact. We're setting up two. Never have both broad and exact, or broad and phrase, or just never have more than one per campaign. The reason being is, if you want to scale, it's so much easier to do that when your campaigns are laid out in an easy to read format. So just have it separated. That means you're going to have a lot of campaigns, but it's just way easier to read, it's way easier to stay organized than it is if everything's all mixed in in between.
In the beginning, we're looking for long-tail keywords that we don't think are going to be super competitive, but are still very relevant to our book. For example, let's go to the, um, the chair yoga for seniors. Okay, now, as a brand new publisher in the chair yoga space, what are the chances of you ranking for "chair yoga for seniors" or "chair yoga for seniors over 60" as a brand new book? Now, honeymoon period will help, but that's going to be a very, very expensive keyword for you. And chances are, the price of your books a little lower, so you can kind of get into the market, right? Is the new kid on the block, but you're probably not going to get ranked for that keyword very well. That's something that's going to take you a couple months. However, "workouts for seniors over 60," "active and easy chair yoga for seniors over 60," "chair yoga exercises for seniors," "chair yoga poses for seniors," "chair yoga for seniors wellness," "seated yoga exercises for seniors," "home workouts for seniors." These are all actually pretty, pretty good, right? The chance of for a new book to get ranked for these, probably pretty good. So we are going to click on enter list, we're going to enter them in.
Okay, I have suggested bid here because I want to first see how much are these keywords going for. Two of them don't have keywords or don't have bids. Okay, so like you see the problem here, $1.87, $1.71, $2.43, $2.45, super high. As a new, as a new book, I would never bid anywhere near that high. I think the highest that I have some like chair yoga book is like around $1.80 for the keyword per click. So what I'm going to do is, I'm just going to change this to custom, right? And I'm going to start. Well, before I talk about that, why don't we go in and talk about bids and give you some insight on how to determine the cost of the bid to start with? So all about bids. And please excuse me if you do hear some noise in the background, they're doing some work outside. I'll try to take that out, but, but yeah, so bids.
Now, the first thing we have to do is, you got to understand your niche. I typically start with a 40 cents bid for a new book. Now, 40 cents in yoga is not the same as 40 cents in mythical Greek creatures. They are not the same. Meaning, this mythical Greek creatures is a niche that is much less competitive than chair yoga for seniors. So my 40 cents in mythical Greek creatures is probably on the higher end of bidding, whereas my 40 cents in chair yoga is going to get me zero impressions. This is the number one thing I see new people getting into is when they say, yeah, well, I was told to start with my bids at 40 cents. Okay, however, that's just goes back to you have to know your market. That just goes back to, okay, yes, that's what everyone, that's what is taught. However, you're in a very competitive niche. Being in a more competitive niche means you're going to have to spend more to play. So for a brand new chair yoga book, I might start at say, 60 or 70 cents per click and see what happens there. Let it go for a, you know, five to seven days, especially in the first little bit, and take a look at my impressions. Are any impressions coming in? Are some coming in? None? And then start making my adjustments there on the higher end. If you start at like 35 or 40 cents in a super competitive niche, you're going to end up wasting half of your honeymoon period time getting no impressions because you were just bidding way, way, way too low. So that is, that's one thing I think a lot of people kind of misunderstand when it comes time to placing your bid for a new book. Know your niche, know how competitive it is. Okay, we saw the Amazon suggested bids, that tells you right there how competitive it is.
Okay, now, um, bid higher to get more impressions, right? Um, I raise my bids at 5 cents increments. You can do it at two cents, three cents, I just do it at five, so I get the change right away, I can see it. I just, when I raise it at 5 cents, I can just start seeing a bigger jump in my impressions versus when I'm raising it at two cents, it, I tend to have to wait a little longer to start seeing stuff happen. And my goal on every campaign, on every book, it's always aim for 2,000 impressions a day. I want each ad to be seen by at least 2,000 people every single day. That's my benchmark. So if, now, if I have a thousand people see it in one day, it's fine, right? I'm looking at the average for the week, okay? But I know if I'm only getting like a couple hundred impressions, I know my bids are way too low. I have to make some drastic changes, right? If it's around 15, 500, I leave it, I'm okay with that. But that's the goal that I go for.
All right, so I'm going to enter a custom bid. So they're all at 70 cents right there, okay? They're all broad, we're not mixing matching or doing anything like that, okay? Now, the next thing we're going to take a look at, uh, we're not doing negative, negative keyword targeting, that would be in scaling and optimization. Is our bidding strategy? All right, so for the bidding strategy, I really only use two options. It's down only and fixed bids. Up and down, I only use for my lottery ads because they're really placed around like a six cents bid, so I don't care if it goes up to 12 cents. Chances of making money is still very, very high with those. Um, but for these, I'm only doing either down only or fixed.
Now, what one should you use and why? Use down only if you're on a tight budget or you're going very broad, right? So if you don't have a lot of money to start with, if you're only starting with a couple bucks, right, then use down only because it's just going to, it's going to help constrict your ad spend. Um, or, or if you're going super, super broad, like you're really going out there and you're going for more short-tail keywords that are only one or two words or something like that because you want to test some stuff out, use down only because it's just going to help constrict that budget.
Now, fixed bids works the best to get you data fast. It does cost a bit much, cost a bit higher, but the payoff is way better in my opinion. Fixed bids means Amazon is going to bid at 75 cents if we put our bid at 75 cents, whereas down only means it'll be 75 cents and below based on changes on Amazon's what they think the customer is likely to buy or not. But fixed bids says I want everybody who clicks on my ad to pay 75 cents, and Amazon's like, all right, cool. So you really have to make the decision on whether or not you're going to use down only or fixed. For most of the time, I'm using fixed bids for most of my books. When I launch the book, I'm also more confident in the keywords that I'm selecting, I'll use fixed. Right? If I know it's stuff that customers who type in that keyword should buy my book, it's going to be fixed because I want every single customer to see my book who types in that keyword.
So for these, we'll do down only, okay? And then bid adjustments, bid adjustments or placements. The rule of thumb is this: wait until you have some data and you're making sales with your ads before you start making adjustments with placements because placements adjusts everything else that we just started playing with. There's no need to start adjusting your placements until you got to handle on the basic stuff, okay? That's my first, my only caveat to what I'm about to say. Let's say you already have some sales, you already know what's going on, right? So top of search, that stands for top of search. This placement helps with the ranking of your book for the ad and organic rank. Once you've started making sales, put this at 20% and increase it every 10% as results are coming in. Rest of search is for everything else below top of search, everything else below that first upper line of ads that we that we saw, okay? This is top of search right here. Top of search, it's the top books for search, boom. Okay, everything else, rest of search. So where, where, so here's an ad, rest of search, rest of search. Those are all rest of search. The higher you make that percentage, the higher Amazon will bid for a placement for those particular areas.
Product, let me show you a product. Product is great for high-converting products to steal sales from your competitor. This was one thing I learned very well over the holidays. So product, so it's not showing up here, but sometimes these will be a sponsored product here. That would be the product placement. You know what, I'm not 100% sure if this one's product placement or not, to be completely honest. I'm almost positive, but I haven't been able to fully confirm that. So in case somebody does know, let me know in the comments. I don't want to give the wrong information. Okay, this 100% is product placement because it's right there on the product page. So the higher you bid, you will be on this first page. The lower your bid, you'll be down here, right? So you see how that works, super easy. If you can be here, now, if you can get your book here, and if you're at a competitive price, and you got like, hot new release badge or whatever the case is, you got a decent number of reviews, right here, yeah, there's a really good chance as they're scrolling down and they've already, so this person paid for the click, you didn't pay for the click, they paid for the expensive click from that first page. Now, the customer scrolling down, chances are they don't buy right away because they got to scroll down, right? Right? They got to scroll down, but boom, you come in, right? You come in and you got your book here. Now, you've done your homework, you got a better cover, right? And you got, you're building reviews, but you've got the hot new seller badge, so you actually look good and established. And this is another key place, guys. We talked about not doing custom copy. Custom copy sells here, right? Custom copy sells here because this is your chance to compete on that for that one against that one other product with some custom copy. It's going to stand out a little bit better here. Nobody's running any custom copy because, let me show you how well it stands out. Nobody. Ah, like, so you take a look at this, look how much more it stands out, this custom copy compared to the rest of the books. It just, it's another thing that makes your book stand out. And if you can write some custom copy that grabs the attention from the customer who's on this page, you can steal a lot of their sales.
And let me show you some of the results that I've had playing around with, um, placements. Actually, yeah, I'll show you that right now. Okay, so this is from a single product ASIN. Um, over last month, my top of search, right? I was running fixed bids. My top, top of search, my bid adjustment was 40%. So whatever my regular bid was, I was willing to pay 40% more if, um, so Amazon could put me at the top of the search, top of the first page, right? 3,400 impressions, and my click-through rate, check this out, 13.32%. So 13.32% of the time, somebody ended up clicking on my book, right? My ACOS ended up being 20%. My break-even was 38%, so very, very profitable. Um, so rest of search, you see 60%. So basically, if they scroll down, I raised, I bid a little higher because I really wanted them to see my book a few more times scrolling through the page because if they see it a few more times, what's going to happen? They see it, oh, they don't click it. They see the organic rate, oh, they don't click it. They see one ad, oh, they don't click it. Oh, boom, boom, then they see it again, maybe even they see the Kindle and the hard, the hard cover somewhere in there as well. They've seen my book like six times on the first page, right? That's what you want. So this one, it was running at a 23% ACOS. And then the product page, right, because this book, I was just absolutely killing them. They were like, they were ahead of me going into the holiday season and like, you know, rip, right? Absolutely destroyed them. I don't feel bad about that. Business is just business, is business, right? And how do I know I destroyed them, right? Just to kind of give you some numbers, like we were around like 11 to 12 when they started in the beginning of the holiday season. I think that book was like somewhere, somewhere between 11 to 15,000 BSR. It finished up December high 20s, and my book was ended up being, you know, around 14 to 16,000 BSR for for most of the, most of the time. But a lot of it was because of how aggressive I was with, um, with my ads. I had a bit of cover, I had the bestseller badge, I had more reviews, right? I did all of those other things, right? And so I, I just got like a shark and just, that's what you got to do. Have no mercy. 19% for the, um, for the product page. And that's what I mean, I just kept seeing it was so efficient, kept seeing, so I was like, wait a minute, I could, okay, let me keep adjusting this, keep adjusting this, and it just was such a high converting that product. I was just converting so well on it. I just went ham. And, yeah.
And to be clear, to be clear, when I say single product ASIN, what I mean is campaign one, ad group one, product one, and then I'm only, only targeting that one book. So this is only targeting one book, right? So, yeah.
Okay, and then to kind of show you another example with this, here's an auto ad. I know we talked, no auto ads for beginners, they're not the best, but not a beginner. My top of search for this, right? I had a much lower bid percentage, only at at 20% bid. Um, and this one I did do down only because I wanted to be a little bit more conservative with my ad spend. So I didn't use fixed bids, I used down only for this one at 20%. But look at my ACOS, 8%. 8%. I probably could have raised this to like 60% and that might have, you know, brought this up closer to 20. But like, yeah, not bad. And then rest of search, 20, right? 15% for that. And like, not a ton of sales, but like I definitely could have done a bit more with, uh, with this. But product pages, 39%. Now, if my break-even is 38% and that's 39%, do I make any adjustments? Uh, no, I don't. Because it's okay to run a bit of a loss if you're still making profit everywhere else. So hopefully that makes sense for your bid adjustments.
The last thing you're going to do is you're going to name your campaign. So my, my OCD always tells me to caps on. So I'd put, um, CY for chair yoga. And then this was a keyword campaign. This was broad. And, uh, oh, then I'll put like, say, my break-even, the break-even for this, uh, yoga book is 49%. So I would put my, oops, I'd put my percentage right there. So when I look at this campaign, I know exactly it needs to be below 49%. And yeah, then I would put it into my portfolio, of course. Daily budget. Now, if you're on a really, really, really, really strict budget, put $3 or $5. Keep in mind, if you're going to be betting, betting, if you're going to be having your bid at like 70 cents and your daily budget is three, that's like four clicks or five clicks. So you're not really going to get anything. So you have to have a slightly higher daily budget, or you need to lower your bids. Now, chances are, starting at a $5 or a $10 a day budget, you're probably not going to hit that. Right? But, you know, this daily budget right here is one of the best ways to keep your budget under control. Okay, yeah, then you just hit launch and you're good to go. All right, okay.
Now, okay, so let's take some time and set up the categories for the new book. So the, the way that I showed you how to set up everything before targeting for the keyword campaigns, we're doing the exact same thing for our categories. Now, here we're going to select manual targeting and product targeting, and we're going to select keywords, or sorry, we're going to select categories. Now, typically, a lot of these will be relevant to the book. So for our chair yoga book, other diet books, yes, because we do talk about diet, diets related to fitness and yoga. Aerobics, yes, for the aging, of course, yoga, yes. Oops. Now, one thing I didn't do is it's doing the suggested bids. So I'm just sure, remove those. I'm going to put, usually I'll bid a little lower. So if the other one's 70 cents, I'll bid 60 cents for categories because these are going to be a lot broader, remember? So I'm going to add those. Yoga self-help, would not choose because although fitness is self, way too broad. Bates, yes. Stretching, fitness, yes. No for diets, yes. Um, I've ranked for this one before, so I know it's relevant. And aging, nutrition and diet, yes. Might search for a couple more, uh, just get rid of that by typing in something like yoga, right? And now, one thing you don't want to point out, right? So if you don't want to go into an ebook category, make sure you don't select the ebook one. Right? This one's music and audio, so I would not want to select this. Yoga blocks, here, like yoga blocks, it's something that I suggest in the book, so could be helpful, right? And these, you're not going to really know, this might be a cool one, you're not going to know until you start, um, choosing these categories and seeing what happens. Yoga meditation benches, yoga mat straps, right? These are all things that relate to your book, but you're not going to know how much it's going to relate until you start running ads to it. So that's one of the reasons I do do a lower bid for these. I typically will do down only for these. Of course, if I want to speed up the results and just get my data quicker, I'll choose fixed. I won't play around with these in the beginning. And then I, I already entered it here, but chair yoga category break-even. But that's how I set up category, so pretty simple. And then do the same thing, $10, $10 for my daily budget. And then, yeah.
All right, so now on to the main event, so to speak. How to save 25% of your ad spend overnight. I know you've been waiting for this. So let me just get right to it. Okay, this is called the deny list. Back in 2023, Amazon started advertising your books off Amazon, Pinterest, Buzzfeed, Home and Garden, heart newspaper, you know, all those wonderful places you want your books advertised. Amazon started doing that without your knowledge. Well, they probably told you, but you probably just said, I agree to whatever email they sent out or whatever form they made you click. I know I did. These are just a list of a whole bunch of the other places like tasty.co. I don't even know what that is, but that was on my list of places that Amazon was advertising my book, and it goes on and on and on. And then after websites, it's a whole bunch of apps that they're advertising. So they are literally taking your Amazon ads, and you are paying for clicks in places you don't want to be paying for clicks for. This, everybody, this happens to everybody unless you do what I'm going to show you how to do in a second here.
So let me show you my report. So this is the report I got from my Amazon ads account, and you can see here are all of my off Amazon clicks for that particular month. And here's the, here's the killer, right? Not one of those clicks equaled any sale. Not one. Yet, I was paying every single time somebody clicked on that ad. And why do we love Amazon ads for one reason? Buyer intent. When people are looking at our ads on Amazon, they have what's called buyer intent. They are looking to buy our books. When they see one of our ads on Pinterest or Home and Garden or tasty.co, they're not looking to buy our book yet. We're paying to advertise there. I don't think so.
So here's what you need to do to stop this. First, how do you find the report I just looked at? Okay, what you're going to do is, you're going to go into your Amazon ads dashboard, you're going to go to measuring and reporting, and you're going to click on sponsored ads for reports. Then you're going to create a report. The report you want, I'll just show you the report you want. So sponsored products search term, no, you want placement report. Okay, then you're going to run that for as long a period of time. Okay, then after a few minutes, you'll get the report, then you can download the report, and you're going to look for the off Amazon, and you're going to see all your impressions, all of your click-through rates, your cost, click-through cost, or your cost per click, and all of that fun jazz. All right, and you can look at all the sales that you need to make.
Then, in order to have Amazon stop doing this, here's what you need to do. Okay, now, before I show you this, if you haven't already liked the video, do me a favor and like the video. I appreciate it. You're going to go into your Amazon ads dashboard, go to your administrative, administrative tab, you're going to click on account access and settings, and you're going to go to what's called the deny list. Okay, now you're going to upload your deny list, and that's the list of websites that you do not want Amazon advertising on anymore.
Now, how do you get your deny list? Well, it's super, super easy for you, okay, and it's free. All you need to do is, you're going to be able to download the deny list from the first pinned post inside my free school community. I have the deny list right here. You can just simply download it, and then you're going to go into your dashboard, your Amazon ads dashboard, you're going to click upload, you're going to upload the deny list. About 24 hours later, you're going to get an email confirmation saying that you are now on the deny list, and it's going to list all of the websites and all of the apps that I've put onto this deny list for you.
Then, 30 days later, I want you to go check your ad report. Look at how much you saved from the month before to a month there on ad spend. I think the results are going to shock you. For most people, it has been around 25%. So if you're spending $5,000 a month, that's a $1,200 savings that you could be spending on more efficient ads. That's massive. Okay, so anyways, hey guys, what do you think of that? Do you know about that? I didn't know about that until I learned about it, obviously. But let me know in the comments. It'd be really cool if, uh, if you appreciate that.
So to get the deny list, click the link in my description of this video. Join our school community, it'll be in there, it'll be the pinned post. It's free. If you don't want to stay, you can just grab it and leave, that's okay. But it's there, it's available for you. So, uh, make sure you take advantage of that and, uh, it can keep more of your money.
So anyways, guys, that's all I have for right now.
