Huh? Jeez, folks. I was one of the first people in the United States to take delivery of the Tesla Model Y. So, it's already been 1 year and I'm going to cover absolutely everything that I've done to this vehicle, what's happened to it, wear and tear, battery degradation, and are the upgrades worth it over the previous generation Tesla Model Y. We're also going to talk about some regrets I have and where I think Tesla has let us down with this new Model Y. So, let's begin.
I've driven this Model Y across the country, done family road trips, used self-driving, I've run charging tests, and I've tracked all of this in my videos over the past year. I will also have this video outlined through timestamps in the description, so you can skip over to the sections that are important to you.
Let's start with the exterior and front end. The big change being this light bar up front. Now, early on, the haters, there's always haters when you're doing something right. They said that this thing looks like an expensive Hyundai. If you look at that Hyundai light bar compared to this light bar, the Hyundai in the day and the Tesla in the day, this looks like a much more premium light bar. But we can put those parts aside. What's really impressive out of this is the matrix headlights. So, what this has a matrix headlight which bends light around targets coming at targets uh around objects coming at you. So, if there's a car coming your way, you have your high beams on, it will delete pixels, so it's not blinding that person while still giving you the benefit of having your high beams on and bending around quarters. So, overall, what I'm really impressed with over the previous version of the Model Y is the lights on this thing are incredible.
The other thing that really sets the Y apart is the rear light bar. This is also probably my favorite part of the vehicle. Seeing one of these things pass you at night, it looks incredible and it's unlike anything else on the road. The closest thing that comes to it is what the 911 rear light bar looks like is a really good upgrade they've made on the new Model Y.
The other thing to talk about is the cabin noise. Now, the original Model Y got some complaints about loud cabin noise. What they've done in this is added 360 acoustic glass. So, now you can see that there is a layer in here. They're more sound deadening. That's also on the roof. That's on the front windows. It's on the rear windows. It's on the back glass. So, it is incredibly quiet inside of this cabin.
So, the other wear and tear on the exterior of the vehicle. Now, I haven't curbed any of the wheels cuz I pay attention when I'm driving and I don't ever want to do that. However, I did take a rock, it looks like, off of one of the wheels. So, it actually left a chip right there in the front rim.
Now, the other thing I've done on the exterior to avoid breaking the windshield was put windshield protection film on this thing. However, even though I'm someone who takes care of my car, I hand wash it, do all the things, this windshield protection film has a bunch of scratches in it and even got a stain from sap. So, while the windshield protection film has absolutely saved it from chipping or cracking to completely break the windshield, there are scratches in it. So, if you're going to get windshield protection film, it works. And they actually Expel has come out with a new film since I put this on that's even better and more robust. Just make sure you're someone that actually, first of all, parks their car in a garage. You don't get this if your car is sitting out all day. And the second thing, make sure you follow directions of spraying on the ceramic coating they tell you to spray on and keeping your windshield clean. It works, but it's certainly not for everyone cuz it costs four, five, or $600 depending on where you're at, what car you're putting it on. So, it works in terms of protecting you from breaking your windshield, but you have to be anal about cleaning it.
The other thing is I put paint protection film on the entire vehicle. Again, this is something that you don't need. However, if you really care about keeping your car clean, then paint protection film works. I got it done at Dynamic Tint in Tempe, Arizona. I've worked with Tyler for years. He's the man. If you're in Arizona, he has all of his work done in house. He doesn't outsource anything. He's not selling garbage film like other shops do. Some shops will advertise they're selling this film and then put cheap stuff on your car. He does not do that.
Now, the other thing to talk about while we're on the exterior are the wheels. So, this has 303 mi of range because I went with the Helix 2.0 wheels, these 20-in wheels. If you go with the 19s, you get 327 mi of range on an all-wheel drive model. And then if you get the 19s on the rear wheel drive, you get 357 miles of range.
So, one of my regrets in this when I took it on the massive cross-country road trip, and one of my complaints with the Model Y is it really hasn't changed since 2020. It is aerodynamically more efficient, but the battery is the same, the charging curve is the same, and I wish they would have advanced it more since it came out in 2020. So, overall, it has plenty of range for going around town doing these daily tasks. Not a problem at all. It's when you go on those really long road trips, and I'm talking like I'm not talking a three or 400 mile trip. I'm talking like 67,000 cross-country trips. That's when this starts to add up. And you're like, I really wish it had more range. And if I went with a smaller diameter wheel, you pick up that little bit more of efficiency. I think the rearwheel drive Model Y with the 19-in wheels is the best one to get if you're going to be doing all the road trips because it has the maximum amount of range in it. And I think that extra 50 miles is what will keep you happy as a customer. It also charges the quickest because it's the most efficient. So, this charges at the same rate as the Model Y rear wheel drive, but because the rear wheel drive is more efficient, it goes further on the same amount of charge.
Now, one thing that looking back on purchasing this vehicle that is probably my favorite part is I went online. I put in a $250 deposit that goes toward the value of the vehicle. I picked out the exact spec I want and I hit order. I saw the price. I get scheduled for a pickup and I pay the exact price with no pressure to do anything else. The direct sale process is incredible. And if you want to get extra things done, like I got paint protection film and tint, which a lot of people get tint, you can do that directly through Tesla's website. And you can even select dynamic tint where I got it done because that is an expel approved vendor. And they have certain ways that they cut the tint to where everything is covered by warranty. So if something happens with your vehicle on the inside because it was done through Tesla, it's fully covered by warranty. So the buying process of this is incredible. I don't think I was if I was sent a survey, I don't remember it. I wasn't pressured into giving them a perfect rating. They deliver the vehicle. They ask you if you've have if you have any questions if you've never owned one. They're going to be a little bit more thorough with you. But overall, that process because I understand the vehicle is just excellent because I show up, I pay the price I want, I don't have to negotiate, and I get a great vehicle.
The other thing to note is this is a launch edition Model Y, which is no longer sold. And they also change things like the new ones have this black interior. So, you can no longer get this lighter interior. It's black, which a lot of people were really excited about. And it's been overdue. However, I do wish you could pick either light or black, but they always just go with one to make the manufacturing process as efficient as possible.
Now, we need to talk about technology. Now, like I said, this is a Model Y launch edition. So, with one click of that, the car is now driving itself, and I can even speak to the car and interact with it. So, watch this.
"Hey, Ara, take me to IKEA."
"Sure. Navigating to IKEA at 2110 West IKEA Way in Tempe. It's 6.3 miles away. Open till 8:00 p.m."
"What is my state of charge going to be when I get there?"
"With 116 m of range and 41% battery now and just 6.3 m to IKEA, you'll arrive with plenty left, around 37%."
"Super safe trip. Thank you. Start navigation."
"Navigation to IKEA started 7.9 m."
So there you go. I am able to use that AI interface when I want to and have it interact with the vehicle. Not only will it navigate, tell me the state of a charge and all that stuff, I can even say, "Hey, let's go to a coffee shop before we go there." And it will set that up. So being able to interact with your vehicle like that and have self-driving and look it's not full self-driving to where I can sit in the back seat and answer email. But in terms of being able to take off this monotonous daily driving task and have the car literally drive itself like 95% of the way there it's been great.
Now, downsides of this. For some reason, lately, it's not been listening to the navigation, and it's like right when you get to your destination. They're always It see like if I'm going to a grocery store, it'll take me into the parking lot, but then go to the back of the store to drop me off or sometimes it misses exits near me. This is something I It's like inconsistent. They'll do an update and then that will happen. Removing that, these are small details. The overall point is that this is the a daily driver, right? So having this take you to work while you can sit like this, listen to your podcast, glance over at your phone while the car has nine cameras keeping its eyes on the road. Even the one time I was coming to an intersection, I had full self or no, I just got through an intersection, full self-driving was on. I rounded the corner and there was an ambulance coming with the lights on. So the car can listen for the sirens. It pulled over to the shoulder, stopped and let the ambulance pass and then kept moving. It's getting more and more advanced. You can no longer buy it outright, but you can pay $99 a month. Whether that's a used Tesla or a new Tesla, it's $99 a month to have that feature. And then it's a very easy, like I hate subscriptions. I wish you could just buy it outright, but that's what they're doing. But with a subscription, you can just cancel it at any time. It's very easy. You could subscribe for 30 days and then immediately cancel so it doesn't renew. And it's very straightforward. You're not having to search and confirm. Yes. And play all these games. It's just do you want it or not? You can turn it on or off. So, I really like that. And in terms of AI changing your life and helping you on a daily basis, this to me seems like the most practical thing because it can drive for you in a very safe manner. Now, it's still supervised. It's not you, you know, like I said, you're not sitting in the back smoking cigarettes and drinking like you want to do, but I'm sure it's going to get there. And just the fact that I took a robo taxi and it was a Model Y launch edition, that tells me that these cars have the hardware and and are fully capable of doing it. They're just not there yet. But in terms of this being packed into a car that starts at $39,990, the Model Y standard, which I went and tested at Tesla's facility, is $39,000 and has full self-driving capability. So, it's pretty remarkable.
Now, the other thing to note about the trims of the Model Y, the Model Y standard is the one that actually has, I think, my favorite interior, because this whole center console area, like you can see on your screen, is completely different. Like here, it's all closed off, right? But on the Model Y standard, it's open. It's really nice. Again, for women putting their purse in there or men, okay, you can do that. So, I think that's great.
Now, we need to talk about the performance and driving dynamics of this vehicle. One of the complaints with the old one was the suspension being too stiff, and I agree. And and you I used to say, "Hey, just get the 19-in wheels. They're more comfortable." Now, with this new Model Y, if you like the 20-in wheels better looking than the 19-in wheels or whatever, get whatever because the suspension in this thing is excellent. Also, ergonomically, this steering wheel feels incredible in your hands, and you're able to change the steering weight. So, if we go to dynamics, we can go to steering weight and make it whatever you want it to be. Light, heavy, whatever you want it to be, you can make it that. And then you can also adjust the the deceleration and the acceleration. So, this has sport mode because it has the acceleration boost. That is an upgrade that you can buy for $2,000. If you don't buy it, it's still 4.6 seconds to 60. It's It's plenty fast. You don't need the boost. But if you do get the boost, the thing rips and has 400 I think it's 444 wheel horsepower. We did a dyno test on this to see exactly what it was. It's pretty remarkable that it adds about 100 horsepower just by the flick of a software update.
So, overall the comfort and driving dynamics of this I I will say of I have a Rivian R1S. I have a Model 3 Performance. The way this can carve through traffic and put the power down immediately in this class, there is nothing that comes even remotely close to it. You would have to spend about double what this vehicle costs to get this level of precision and performance. It just feels good on a daily basis. And this is the other thing is like there's I I don't like just electric cars. Like I would drive a 911. I used to own a BMW M2. I've owned a Civic SI Focus ST. My first three cars were manual transmissions cuz I just love driving. This is a different type of driving that I also love. The fact that the car has the tech to actually drive itself, but then just be precise and comfortable. I can bob and weave and in traffic, but then I can also go, "All right, I'm all done now. I'm sitting in traffic or yeah, I'm just gonna let it drive me home from here. It's and and as far as an ADAS system, the fact that you can type your destination in and hit go and just sit there and then on top of that, you can go right here and we can you want to drive Mad Max mode, you can go Mad Max mode. If you want to relax and slow down, watch the cars go right down to the speed limit. So, oh, and then when you get there, do you want to go curbside or do you want to be in a parking lot? So, you have your own chauffeur here. Do you want to Is it going to a charger? Yeah. take me over to the charger that's in this parking lot. Like it'll just back you into the charging space. So, in terms of comfort and in terms of luxuries, this vehicle that starts at $39,000. Now, the $39,000 version is different. It doesn't have 360 acoustic glass. It doesn't have cooled seats. It doesn't have the seats that the screen in the back. All this stuff that we'll talk about, but it can drive itself just like this one can. And that to me is remarkable for someone who loves to drive. I enjoy traditional enthusiast cars. I can also appreciate this being I think the best daily driver that you can get as far as a new car for the money. It's very fast. It's precise. It's efficient. Has space. I don't know what else you could possibly want.
Another thing I want to talk about is the suspension knocking. So, I've got actually gotten a couple emails about this um about the suspension making a sound. Now, I had this issue years ago. I got a suspension from Unplugged Performance. And my only complaint with the suspension, while it did help the vehicle, it it had this like knocking sound. And people are complaining that there's this they're having that issue with the new Model Y. I personally can't speak to that cuz it's not affecting my car. I I don't feel it. I felt it one time when I hit a really big pothole. It made the knocking sound, but it's not It's rarely happening to me. And the roads around me have been rough. They're actually repaving all of them. So, I would have felt it. So, I'm not having that issue. If it happens, I'll talk about it in the future. But overall, the suspension on mine and the NVH they the NVH that they've reduced in the vehicle has been really good.
The other thing I need to say about driving this, look at this acceleration here. I'm easily Okay, there I'm up to the speed limit. Everyone's still back at the stops light and the Hyundai Accent and the Mercedes C350 and I'm just cruising along here right by the police. But the ease at which you can gain speed in this is so relaxing. If you drive a Rav 4, for example, you have to hear that that garb that terrible engine and then it's just you're not even you're not even going that fast. Or when you need to overtake someone, you flip this. I mean, it's it's crazy how fast the ease at which you can gain speed is unlike anything else. All electric vehicles are like this, by the way. Um this isn't unique to Tesla. It's just electric vehicles in general. the drivetrains. Uh once you try it, you can't go back.
Now, I'm going to break down the range, efficiency, and charging. What the reality is of those three scenarios. So, the range on this vehicle, brand new, was 303 mi. Currently, if I charge it to 100%, it gives me 281 mi of range, which is 92% of the original capacity. So, after 12,712 mi, we have lost 8% of the battery capacity. Now, that is what the car is displaying. That is not the best way to test it. The best way to test it would be when you first get the car, you get the capacity from zero to 100% and then you see how much energy has been added to the vehicle and then after 12,000 mi, you do the same test and you might get the same number and that essentially means that there has been no battery degradation. So, the average efficiency of the vehicle here after 12,712 miles is 265.2 W hours per mile. The usable battery capacity in this is right about 79 kwatt hours. Now, here's what's cool. If you take this average energy, so this W hours per mile, and then you convert it into miles per kilowatt hour, then that translates to 297 miles of range on a full tank of electricity. So, I my average energy in this vehicle is averaging out to almost 100% of what it's supposed to get. So, that's been good. That's highway driving. That's cross-country trip. That's city driving. That's everything. That's really high heat. And the average efficiency is 265.2 watt hours per mile, which is good.
Now, the reality of charging this thing, I wouldn't own I've said this before, I would not own an electric vehicle if I didn't have a place to charge at night. I have friends that live in an apartment, but where they go to work, there are electric chargers. So, while they're in work, they're charging their vehicle. Electric vehicles are supposed to make your life more convenient, and you don't want to be giving up more and more. Like a gas car, you can fill up in a few minutes. An electric car, if you have to rely on public charging, you're probably going to need to be there for 30 to 40 minutes to get a reasonable state of charge to make it worth your time. So, if you have a place to charge at work, at school, or at home, you're good to go. If you don't have that, I'd really consider maybe looking to a hybrid or something like that just because you want to make your life simple, not harder.
The other thing I recommend if you are going to be using public charging, even if you know where the charger is at, you should 100% be locating it on a map. So, currently where we're at, there is a charger right here. We'll click on it and then we will click navigate. It's going to take us to this charger, but then it will probably pop up that it's Yeah, it's preconditioning the battery for fast charging. So, the reason it's doing that is because it wants to make it the safest temperature for battery longevity. So, you don't want it to be really cold and it's putting all that energy into the car. Also, it's not going to hurt the battery because the BMS will not let it take too much of a load that will um I hate myself. Uh that will hurt the battery. It's just going to be a reduced rate. So, again, you're just wasting time. You're making your charging take longer because you didn't precondition the battery. So, just some advice there if you're new to electric vehicles. That's all electric vehicles. Tesla when you click on it, it automatically will start to precondition. There are other cars where you have to manually hit a button and then it will precondition, which I think is really stupid, but this just makes it really easy for you.
Now, I showed you what the lifetime efficiency is of the vehicle. So, I'm getting right around that 300 mi of range on average if I were to fully drain the battery. So, $1264 is what it costs me to fill this car entirely at home. My rate is 16 per kilowatt hour. The usable pack size is 79.16 times 79 is $1264 to fill this up. Gas prices are going through the roof. Uh, and I don't even have to think about it because 99% of my charging is done at home and that's that. So people will say, "Oh, well yeah, your electricity bill goes up." Um, yes, but my gas bill, my gas bill is now zero. So the electricity bill going up a little bit is way better than my gas bill being $95. Uh Andrew, my cameraman, we just calculated he would have to put premium fuel in his Subaru BRZ that he used to own. It would cost him $80 to fill that up right now because gas is $6 a gallon for premium fuel in Arizona. The other thing to think about is if you were to get like a BMW X3 M50, it's an awesome car, right? You have to put premium, you don't have to, but you should put premium fuel in that. It would cost you well over $100 to fill that thing up right now. And that's not even as quick of a vehicle as this is. So again, it just goes back to the value. You're looking to get value out of an electric vehicle. If I'm going to buy an electric vehicle on road trips, it takes longer. That's the trade-off, right? But everything else about this is significantly better than owning a gas car. Despite, you know, things like the Porsche Macan, which I think is a very fun vehicle, when it comes down to it, I just like the ease of use of living with this.
Now, we need to talk about the technology in this vehicle. We talked about the autonomy that it has. This gets overtheair updates. So, it will get updates over time. You connect it to Wi-Fi. They'll add features to your vehicle. Sometimes there this I don't think this has had any recalls. My old one did, but every time you get a recall, you'll just get a note in the mail and then you just connect it to Wi-Fi and it fixes via an overtheair update. So, you don't have to take it to a dealership.
One of the things they have updated since I purchased this vehicle is the infotainment screen. So, this is a 15.6 or 15.4 in display. It is newer to this Model Y, but now they have with the newer QLED, I think. Is the new one a QLED? Is that what it is?
"Yeah. 80% uh more pixels in the newer display that now comes on them."
But if you have, like, for example, this is a 2026 model. If you have one of the originals, for $1,300, you can replace this screen and put in the new one. I thought about doing that, but then I looked at this screen and I'm like, this is perfectly fine. The screen is still excellent. I've seen it in the new Model Y performance. It is a little bit better. It's nice that it's slightly bigger, but overall not worth it to me for $1,300, but if you wanted to do that, Tesla offers that as a plug-and-play option.
So, there have been software updates to this. They've added features to it. For example, one of the software updates they have added here, you can see wireless phone charging pads here. So, these charging pads that sit below, I like to sit my phone there, but I, you know, if you sit your phone there with 99% battery, I don't want it to charge the phone. A lot of people have talked about this and complained about it and they just came out with a software update that you can turn the charging pad on or off. Again, that's the power of having vertically integrated software is the engineers in-house at Tesla can make real changes to older vehicles.
The other thing I want to note to you, and I got an email from a subscriber about this, shout out, no clue what your name is. Keep accessory power on. So, the reason that you would want to do this is if you were camping or something like that, you wanted to keep the sound system playing. you wanted to use the 120 volt plug in the back of the vehicle, whatever. When you turn accessory power on, it says power remains active after exit. So, vehicle consumes additional energy even without connected devices. They had turned that on for some reason and left it on thinking, I mean, I would have done the same thing, just left it on and thought, well, it's not going to take that much energy. And it was eating like 6 to 8% or maybe even more of energy per day. They took it into Tesla service and Tesla service says, "Yeah, this this is what's pulling all of that extra power." So, great feature to use when you need to use it, but make sure that you turn that off.
Now, what about warranty work? Personally, I have not had to have any warranty work on the vehicle. Also, in in terms of tire wear, tires are in excellent shape. It all depends on how aggressively you're going to be driving the vehicle. Now, my cameraman Andrew does have a Model Y and has had some warranty work. His TCU unit failed. telematics control unit. So his car wasn't able to communicate with the cloud effectively. So navigation, Spotify, basically any anything that had to do with internet was having an issue connecting. So he took it to Tesla and they replaced it for free. They gave him a laner.
The other thing that he got notified about were these cameras up front here. So these vehicles are all about like, hey, uh you don't have to do oil changes. There's no maintenance, blah blah blah. Then there's offging from these cameras. So Tesla has to go in and clean this off so the cameras can see perfectly. Hasn't happened to my car yet. He's close to 20,000 miles. I have 12,000 miles. I'm probably going to have to clean it. It's kind of a tricky thing to do. I'm going to try to do it on my own, but ultimately Tesla will do the first one for free and then I think it's like $80 for them to do it after that. That's kind of annoying in my opinion, but what can you do?
Now, the other thing about these vehicles are accessories. People love to accessorize them, right? Well, here's my absolute number one accessory with the Tesla Model Y, and that is the floor mats. So, these are from 3D Mats. It has their Max Spider technology. See, even like little they've done like it fits just perfectly along here. And their Max spider technology is this stuff right here. So, it adheres to the carpet just like Velcro does, but it doesn't fray it. Like, when you put Velcro on this type of carpet, it frays it and ruins it immediately. This sticks in place and is very durable. And because it has this bold design here, if there's mud, rock, snow melting in there, it keeps all of the mess concentrated in that area. Then you're easily able to clean it up. But one thing I've never actually shown on my channel are these. These are their elegant perfect fit car liners. So this is a carpeted version of the rubber ones in there. I realized I hadn't actually shown the carpeted version. A lot of people like carpet because it helps reduce the amount of dust in the vehicle. And then right here, the part where your heel is always sitting is their traditional all-weather pad. So that way you're not wearing out the carpet. And again, it has the bold design. It has the Max Spider technology and everything looks really good. So I've truly enjoyed these and I highly recommend them. I've met a couple people in person who have told me, "Hey, I ended up getting a cheap set on Amazon and then that set end up failing or it doesn't adhere like the way that they want it to and then they end up buying these." So, you end up spending even more money. So, this set is like $250ish dollars, but I have a discount code that you can use that will give you more of a discount. So, I'll have a QR code on the screen so you can scan it. It'll take you right to their website or you can use my discount code that you can see on the screen. But, I highly recommend these. This is what I sell the most of for the past 5 years. These are incredible and almost nobody returns them.
So, now let's talk about the top five pros and the top five cons after a year of owning this Tesla Model Y. We'll start with the pros. The first thing is the 360 acoustic glass. The car is truly quiet now and it is really a pleasure to be in, especially if you like listening to music or podcasts. You don't feel like you have to blast it to get the sound that you want. Also, the software keeps getting better and the suspension feels how it should. It has that nice rebound. I call it the Sydney Sweeney rebound effect. It also has luxury features such as the automatic folding seats. And the last thing is the app just consistently works great. There's never a time where you're making trying to get your vehicle unlocked or wondering if the air conditioning on. It just seems to work.
But now the cons. So, like I talked about earlier, I wish this vehicle had more range. Not for the daily driving, but on the road trips that I do. I'm just kind of like, uh, if it was just 350. Now, you can easily fix that by going to the rear wheel drive version. I think that that has the right amount of range. I just wish Tesla had innovated a little bit more with their battery technology to make it not only charge quicker, but get more range out of them.
We also need to talk about Tesla Tesla service. Here's my thing with Tesla. Starting to rain right now. Here's the thing with Tesla service is I I don't like going through the app because the app is like pick this, choose this, yes, no, this that. I like just driving to the service center and then when I walk into the Tesla service center they go you did you try to use the app and I just say I didn't want to. I just wanted to talk to you and then we figure it out because I just think talking with a human is better. So people complain about Tesla service. I also don't like that you can't just pick up the phone and call a service center. If you've ever gone into a Tesla service center, there's generally only a few people sitting in there. Whereas if you go to Ford, they got 4,000 people in there ready to change your oil, change your tires, and sell you a new car. So there needs to be some balance in between them having a call center where you can call in, talk about your problem, and then they can accurately diagnose either remotely or say, "Hey, yeah, you need to come in for service and get it scheduled appropriately." Because sometimes you'll get a quote for something that you know is under warranty and then you don't go in. Whereas if you just talk to someone, they would tell you it's under warranty and you're not getting build for it. And I think Tesla purposely does that to keep you out of the service center as much as possible. You're rarely ever in there. But when I want to use it, I want it to be a good experience, better than what it currently is. Now, sometimes mobile service will come to your house, handle something remotely, and that is excellent. A lot of times, I just like going there, handling it in person, and I wish you could call someone on the phone.
Now, the other accessory that people are going to absolutely love, and this been a year of this being developed, is the performance spoiler along the back here. Tarts has just released it. This spoiler replicates the look of the one that comes on the Model Y performance. It's full real carbon fiber and the fitment, as you can see here, is excellent. You can also get paint protection film and ceramic coat put on top of this if you want to. A lot of times carbon fiber will will fail if it sits out in the sunlight a ton. So, you could put paint protection film on this to go the extra step, but you can just see the fitment is incredible. And this will be for sale on Tart's website, and you can use code jebes to get a discount on this. Also, to those of you who use uh my discount codes and all that, I generally get a commission from that. I do vet out the people that I work with. So, Tarts is an excellent one. Vion is one of my original sponsors and then 3D Mats. And if you've watched this channel for all the years I've been posting videos, you notice that I don't really I don't ever really change from those three cuz I know that they will take care of you guys who watch the channel. There are plenty of manufacturers that make similar or the same products, but their customer service is atrocious and they're cutting corners on quality in some way. Whereas these manufacturers like Tarts and Vion and 3D Mats, I know they will take care of you. If you ever have an issue, you can always reach out to me and I will make sure it is handled appropriately. So, I appreciate you supporting my channel uh if you have used any of those codes.
So, now interior comfort and daily living here. The seats on this thing are incredible. Now, in comparison to the or seats on the original one, these are all heated and cooled, so they're perforated. Uh, and you can see here now I I'm smaller than the average American. I'm 5'12 and I have a 32-in waist. I'm built like a European female pole var. So, these seats, you can see there's really no creasing along here. Okay? And then the cooled seats work really nice. Now, people have complained about this right here. See how this is kind of just like a little extra here? And sometimes a little extra is nice, but not in my seats. I want this seat to be tight. Um, overall it is. It's, you know, we can see it's nice up here. Just this is just kind of why is this floating now? Not the biggest deal, but I did want to show you the creasing. There's a little bit more creasing um over here on this part of the seat in the passenger side. And really, there's kind of rare that there's a passenger in here. Andrew, what do you have to say for yourself? You crushed the passenger seat.
"I crushed the passenger seat."
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry."
"Get out of my pay. Yeah, we're taking we will be take Yeah, the organization will take it. I'll have the board vote on it, but but the board will be voting on if we should take that out of your plate. Please comment below if we should give them a raise or, you know, I'll let the board decide."
But overall, I talked about the ergonomics of the steering wheel. It's excellent. Uh the seats are firmer than the previous version. I recently uh we rent we well you the laner that you had. Yeah, the loner we had. Um those previous seats are very comfortable and very durable. I don't think these are going to hold their shape as well over time, but I'll trade that off for having cooled seats because that is just a huge luxury feature. The other thing is there's nothing up here. There's no heads up display and then there's no display right in front of you. Personally, I've gotten used to that and I don't really mind it, but I think people are going to get sick of that over time. And with the Rivian R2 coming up, I'm very curious to see how that changes what Tesla is doing in terms of what they offer and how minimalistic their cars are. Now, it's all handled mainly through great software, but people sometimes just like stuff right here, and I can see them changing that in the future. So, yes, the interior of this car is minimalistic. It's actually hard for the American mind to understand. It's crazy that this is an Americanmade vehicle because we came up with buffets, the Super Bowl, My 600 lb Life. We're not into minimalism. We're into maximalism. And so this is very minimalistic, but the software is so good inside of this vehicle that it makes others seem like a TI89 Texas Instrument.
Furthermore, talking about technology in the rear of this vehicle, again, it's very minimalistic. You just have this little pocket back here. You have a nice ambient light and a door card. But you have this screen, this 8 in display back here, which has YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, all of that type of stuff. And again, this works incredibly well. So when we put our car seats in here and have the kids back here, if they're raised in hell, Miss Rachel raises them. You don't even have to raise your kids when you own a Model Y. Miss Rachel will. And Peppa Pig. Peppa. My wife hates Peppa Pig. So I when we get in the car, I I always go, "Do you want to watch Peppa Pig?" That's not good marriage advice, so don't do that. But here's the here's the point. A lot of cars have all of these cool features and hey, look at this. And it can do a tank turn and it can it can drive. I don't know. I don't know what they even do. This has technology that you can use and it works. So, here we go. This guy here, here's Marquez Brownley. Or is that Rich? That's Marquez. So, Marquez Brownley. He's showing off the new Apple Studio display. If I click this right here, it immediately loads the video. And here we go. We're watching Marquez. He's confused. He's confused. It's just incredibly useful. It's not some honky tonk nonsense. the technology works. I mean, even things like this, like I can click the seat button and I can move the front seat from the back seat. I can play games back here. I can play Vampire Survivors. Okay? You know, Vampire Survivors, the world's number one selling game. So, I just think that it's really nice. These are heated seats back here, and then they automatically fold down. So, you know, I press this button here. Oh, it's folding me down. Okay. So, I can't show that. But the seat folds down. We all know that. And then they've also put a silver layer on the glass here to help reject more heat. Now, it has certainly helped. However, if you are in an extreme environment like I am in the devil's armpit of Phoenix, Arizona, you still want a sun shade. And the really cool thing is Vion just came out with a black sun shade that matches the roof here. So, if you have the lighter color roof liner, Vion has the lighter colored one, but if you have the black interior, Vion has the black one that they just released. And that is also another accessory that literally thousands of people have purchased and really liked because the fitment is better than all of the rest. It fits and creases in here. It's very easy to store. It folds up small, goes in your sub trunk and then fits perfectly in here leaving no gaps and that's what you want. And it's only like 50 bucks and then I have a discount code with free shipping. So that will all be on your screen.
Now one thing we just realized, I didn't did not know this until we were just shooting that previous segment. I was talking about the seats folding down and it wouldn't fold down. The reason it's not folding down is cuz it knows that I'm sitting here. So, when I'm sitting here and I hold this button in, it will you be used as a recliner. So, I'm fully in the upright position. But, if I want to recline, it'll fully it'll recline as much as it can for me. Now, the second I step out of this seat, it turns into a button that folds it down completely. Again, the software being integrated incredibly well into the video. Just a really wellthoughtout piece there.
So, I've made videos before talking about how Tesla will ruin you. Owning one of these will legitimately ruin you because you will start to look at other cars and then while they are good-looking and you may want to try something different, the daily conveniences, especially of a Tesla Model Y, are nearly impossible to beat. The only car that has a chance upcoming is going to be the Rivian R2. The Rivian R2 is great because it gets a more off-road version of what this is. The R2 is more like a Toyota 4Erunner, but fully electric and actually an electric vehicle that you would want to own. And I have one of them on order. So, would I order a Model Y again knowing what I know now? Absolutely. I like having the all-wheel drive variant. Maybe I would go to a smaller diameter wheel to make it more efficient. Ultimately, if you're looking for efficiency, you need to go with that rear wheel drive version. But this has just been an incredible vehicle to own. And in terms of a daily driver, I truly believe that there is absolutely nothing better than this. I think it's a good-looking vehicle. I think the self-driving technology is incredible. And I love having the performance packed into this that this thing has. I can't imagine driving a Chrysler Pacifica.
Now that we've covered the one-year update of the Tesla Model Y, you may be wondering what other accessories would be good to put on this thing. And this video right here has all of the accessories that I currently recommend for the Tesla Model Y. Please subscribe and like this video if it helped you out. If it didn't, then click away.
