All right, church. Turn and greet one another tonight as you seated. All right. Well, hey everybody. Welcome to the service this evening. The lights are dim. That's for a reason. If you're visiting for the first time, I'll remind you uh the rest of you inform uh the new ones. Um this is the first Wednesday of the month as often as we can. We can't we don't get a chance to do it every first Wednesday of the month, but this is our night of of communion and of worship and uh and seeing what the Lord wants to do in our lives as we I know we're in a room together obviously, but what he wants to do with us individually in our lives. Expect the Lord tonight to speak to you as you worship him. The relationship between you and your God is one that is personal. The great thing about the way that he works is that you can be alone with him and it's personal or you can be in a crowd still personal. >> He's amazing.
And um tonight before we um set our hearts and prepare our hearts uh to worship him on this night of communion. It's a night and this is a great night for us to recalibrate. >> You might say, "Well, I came for a Bible study tonight." I understand that. We do that here a lot. But remember Jesus said, "My father's house shall be called a house of prayer." Amen. >> And when we pray, it's more than just saying, "Our Father, which are in heaven." It's more than that. It's more than even setting aside hours to pray. I remember when I was a new believer, I bought every book I could on prayer. And the conclusion was for me in reading the particular books I read that if I wasn't praying two to three hours a day, I probably wasn't saved. Be careful when you read books that people write. You you want truth, read the read the book that God has written, right? And and so [applause] and I mean that sincerely. Uh I'm very I'm very grateful to the Lord for the opportunity but uh these these wonderful opportunities being asked to write books and I'm not a fan of doing that unless those books are plump with Bible verses, right? Think about it. If if it doesn't have Bible verses in it, why write it? But what God says and what God announces, we can get that all muddied up because we begin to think what what people say that's the way that it is. And I remember prayer being really a controlled disaster in my life. It should have been a joyous, beautiful intercourse with God in conversation. And instead, I made it into this laborious, difficult load of commitment. And um I'd get up at four o'clock in the morning and I'd find myself falling asleep praying. So then I thought I was the spawn of hell. So I had to I read in the Bible where the Apostle Paul bu beat his body into subjection. So I remember praying on my hands and knees in a uh an empty cold bathtub to stay awake and that that didn't work. It it turns out you have to lay down in a cold empty bathtub with no clothes on to stay awake. So that's what I did and prayed. And I got to tell you, after doing that for a couple of years, your head gets so big with self-righteous arrogance and your heart shrivels up like a raisin. Why? Because the scripture says for us that we are to be praying always. >> That doesn't mean to pull over and park your car and pray for eight hours. It means that you have a conversation with God non-stop. >> You just you just start talking with him in prayer and you have a dialogue where you speak with him. He speaks back to you in the word and it's wonderful.
I honestly would have given anything today to have you with me. And you know how often I've told you that I I I want to invent a pastor cam. You know, like a body cam pastor cam. Now, I'm going to keep talking about it until somebody else invents it and I'm going to say, I I thought of that. But I've been talking about this for a long time. Today would have been a great day for me to have a pastor camp because I had a meeting today and it was with three uh young women and they were introducing to me a ministry that they're involved in. And the one young lady um began to tell me her story about how she came to Christ. She was born and raised in Iran. And when you're born and raised in Iran, you are a Muslim. And she was always wondering why her life was so empty inside. Empty. There was no sense of presence with God. and she had heard about Christians. She didn't understand them. She knew that being a Christian was wrong, but she had been introduced to the gospel message and she started listening and she wound up praying and it was the cutest thing she told us today. She said, "God, hello. Uh, I'm a Muslim, but I don't know what to do, but I want Jesus." And and I don't know, but I want Jesus. I don't know what to do about that. And she said, "From that moment on, there there began to be this stirring in her heart. God began to touch her life. She began to have joy. Her mom caught her being happy. And her mom said, "What's going on?" And she said, "I've accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior." And and yeah. [applause] And her mom said, 'Look, that's not going to go over big in the family or in the community, but look, I love you. I'll hide you. I'll protect you, but you got to keep that down, you know. So, the mother continued to watch her joy. And the mother on the phone told her, "You know what? Your brothers, they need Jesus, too." And Megan, a long story short, the brothers, the mom, >> they came to Christ. She starts going to a church in Iran and more and more. She couldn't believe it. She shows up to the first time to the service and there she she could not believe that there were this many Christians in Iran in the service. And she went on to tell me today that um she [snorts] got arrested for being a Christian in Iran and she was imprisoned in one of Iran's most notorious prisons. She's a little tiny woman. Tiny. I'm talking I'm I'm maybe 51, maybe 100 pounds. Tiny little thing. She was thrown into this prison and because she was a Christian, they put her, I think, in 31 days of absolute total isolation in a room that she said was like this big, a box, because she was a Christian. And then she got out and they put her back in the prison. But when they put her back in the main prison, she recognized other Christians from the church that she had attended. Oh my gosh, you got arrested too. Praise the Lord. And they start, they were so happy. They were praising the Lord and the guards told them, "Shut up and they're behind bars and they were just rejoicing. Every day they were rejoicing." And listen, the prison guard said, "You're inside there free. I'm out here in prison." >> And he accepted the Lord. [applause and cheering] >> And God's been using her. And I had a chance to meet her and her fellow associates this afternoon here at church. And it was amazing. All of a sudden, my problems got real small. And they were telling me, which I felt like an absolute fool to be honest with you, because in my presence was this hero of the faith. >> Right? Think about it. This little girl stared death down in the face. But what she had experienced in Jesus was so real, she couldn't deny him. >> Amen. >> What are you going to do with that? So real, you can't deny him. And so she stood against the faces of death. And here's where this gets really amazing. Her friends tell her she's she's visiting her friends in Pasadena and her friends tell her we're going to go to we're going to go to church. This was last Sunday but we met with her today. So last Sunday her friends say we're going to go to church. Okay. So they come here and they they sit down up front. They're visiting for the first time and she freaks. I didn't know she freaked. She freaked. And I just found this out today. She freaked because and I got to meet them after service on Sunday, but I didn't understand what was being said. I understand now more clearly today that in Iran they have translated our Sunday sermons and the and the church that she was attending they distribute the sermons from this pulpit. [applause] And so she she she couldn't believe. She said, "I know this guy." So the the government of Iran instead of killing her and or stoning her for being a Christian, they exiled her. They told her get out of the country. So yeah. Hey. Yeah. So she she moved she moved to Turkey and she lives in Turkey now and she's and God's using her in Turkey. She's ministering to churches in Turkey and uh Christian it's it's not easy to be a Christian in Turkey. And um and so they gave us they gave us this report as well. I'm telling you I wish I would had the pastor cam on so I could just press the button. And so she said, and now she said, there's fellowships in Turkey that have joined in translation the Sunday sermons here. >> I had no idea. [applause] We had no idea. She said, "I'm so excited to meet you." And I said, "No, no, no. [laughter] I am excited and humbled and blown away because you know what? her faith was put to the test. And when she's done staying here, I think she leaves tomorrow actually, she goes back to stand for her faith in a country where you're not to share. You cannot tell other people about Jesus. And she says, I listen, she said, I have so much of him in me that I have to tell people about Jesus. That is knowing Christ. That's knowing him. [applause]
And then one one more story. She said while she was in solitary confinement, she said, "I hope the Lord forgives me, but I before I went into solitary confinement," she said, "There was a pen. There was a pen for writing that was somewhere nearby." and she said, "I stole the pen in her uh burka that she was wearing," which you can hide a lot under a burka. So, she gets in her cell [clears throat] and she asked uh she had asked the prison guard, "Can I have a Bible?" And he said, "You're in prison for having a Bible." And yes, but I So, now that I am in prison for having a Bible, can I have a Bible? Makes sense to me. No, you can't have a Bible. So, you know what she did? She said, "Lord, will you remind me of Bible verses?" Do you know what she did? She said, "I wrote on the wall and and being in being in prison, I covered my wall." She said, "Not only did God give me Bible vers, listen to this. Not only did God remind me of Bible verses, she said, "I wrote down what I thought I was hearing from him, words that I'd never heard before, and I wrote them down." And she said, 'When I was released from prison and I was later reading the Bible, I came across verses I did not know, but I had written them down on the wall and found out later reading the Bible that the spirit of God was the one who gave her the verses without knowing them. Didn't Jesus say that? Jesus said, "I the spirit of God will will give you he will teach you all things." Jesus said, 'The spirit of God will teach you all things whatsoever I've commanded you. >> And this this little woman, her faith could slay a giant, right? And so this Jesus, our Jesus that we are worshiping tonight, the world cannot move him. The world cannot stop him. The world cannot put him in a cage or in a prison or in a box. The world cannot build a wall to keep him out. >> He is Jesus Christ, the resurrected Lord and Savior. He's the Messiah, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last, the one who was, who is, who is to come, the Almighty. And he desires to live inside of his creation, you. He came for us and religion will never ever fill that void. >> And you might be here and and and it doesn't matter what your background is. It was an awesome joyous reminder and an encouragement to keep Jesus Christ the center focus of your entire life at all times. >> Friends, listen. I'm not going to show the video. It's this is a sweet time. I'm not going to do any announcements that I was going to do because I don't want to ruin the moment. I will say this, keep your eyes on Jesus. I have been telling you it's going to be more important than ever that you have your eyes focused on Jesus. I said it last Sunday. I sound like a broken record, but I want you to be anchored in him. that in New York today where a great announcement was made. I am the new mayor of New York. I am a Muslim. And all around the world, Muslims danced and shouted with joy because New York has fallen in last night's election. 24 years ago, New York was attacked by an Islamic invasion. We didn't think it would be a vic a victory. And lo and behold, it was a victory. And so people are wondering how did this happen? And people are freaking out and what's going on. And listen, I have good news for you. >> We don't live here. Amen. >> This world is not our home. [applause] >> We worship a God who fills your heart. >> We worship a God who calms your nerves, gives you peace, >> and even in the face of death, you can't deny him. You can't. It's just I mean, Peter tried But that didn't work out very good. He wound up coming around. You're loved. Don't think for one moment that this whole love concept came from us. We ain't got that in us. God put that in us because we were created in his image. We're fallen. No doubt about it. We're sinners. We need forgiveness. But just know this, all the good that you see in life, it's just a hint. Because good has to be before bad. Bad. You can't know bad unless there's first good. Our world is bad because our world was once good. You and I know what's bad because we judge it against what is good. I want you to realize tonight that if you need healing tonight, ask the Lord to heal you tonight. >> But pastor, I have cancer and they just told me I have we don't care what they've said. If it's God's will, he might want to heal you tonight. >> And listen, well, what if he doesn't heal me? If he doesn't heal you, he's going to heal you. I mean, come on. [applause] This is not our home. And so, scripture tells us, "For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and power." We celebrate Jesus Christ tonight for having gone to the cross for us. We celebrate Jesus Christ tonight because he washed away our sins by going to that cross. God went to the cross because you, me, we were supposed to die for our sins. You know that >> sin is fatal and we're all s i n positive and it's fatal. It's one thing to die in this world. That's physical. That's nothing compared to spiritual death. Jesus died on the cross to spare us from spiritual death. If you turn to him tonight and you say, "I recognize that I am a sinner. I have sinned against you, God. I have lied. I have had filthy thoughts. I have been violent. Or I've been selfish. Or I fill in the blank. Pick one. Pick several. You're guilty of >> more than that." Yeah. >> We're all condemned. The Bible says so and we know it. And then Jesus says, "I've come to give you life >> and that more abundantly." The devil, he has come to rob you, to kill you, and destroy you, but I've come to give you abundant life. >> Trust in me. Trust me. Give me your life. Give me your sins. You You listen tonight. You begin your walk with Jesus by giving him your sins. >> Say, "What kind of a deal is that?" Don't argue with them. He says, "Repent." Give you go to him and you say, "Lord, I don't have to be convinced. I know that my life is tainted and I do a lot of hard work to hide that from people. And tonight, I'm going to quit all that. I want to receive your forgiveness. I want to be made new. And for those of you who are thinking, "Yeah, but I'm really bad. Jesus has got you covered." He says, "The person who is forgiven the most loves the most." So there's listen, there's no reason why you shouldn't have his forgiveness and his love tonight unless frankly you're just either completely given over and reprobate in mind and heart or you can't believe that you are worthy of God's love. You're not worthy of God's love and I'm not worthy of his love. But before the worlds were ever created, the scripture says he knew you and he's been patient with you all this time. But he he warns us and says, "My patience will not always last. There will be a time when your opportunity will expire. Don't let that happen. Please, tonight when we partake of these elements, I don't want you to I don't want you to come forward. You'll have the opportunity to come forward or you can go to the back. There's a lot of you here tonight. Clearly, the World Series is over. You're all back. Welcome back. Don't don't rush. Don't don't hurry. There's no reason to. There's a lot of you. It works. It's It works every time. Don't worry about it. But if you're here alone, Christian, get up and go to the front or go to the back. And there's matzah, bread, unleavened bread, and there's juice of some sorts. Doesn't matter. In fact, I mentioned I think this morning in the prayer meeting this morning, I mentioned to those that were online, wherever you're at, you might be somewhere right now. you're you're joining us on the real life network or you're streaming and you might say I only have I only have Pepsi and and you know a pretzel. Yeah, fine. That's fine. Lisa and I had communion. We were camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We were just married. This is TMI. But we were camping up in the Sierras and we had communion together and we had Pepsi and a Twinkie, a hostess Twinkie. You see, listen, these are these are elements to remind you of what he's done. Nothing changes about these things the moment we pray over them. They're reminders. >> Jesus suffered once, never to suffer again. >> Aren't you glad? How that's how good he is. [applause] So, Gia is going to come on out. She's going to lead us in worship. And I'm going to ask all of you to be uh really civil because you're going to be sitting down or whatever. You might be standing up. I don't know, but somebody near you is going to say, "Excuse me." And you're going to be really nice and you're going to let them by because they're going to go partake of communion. And I think this is an awesome service. You'll never see this done anywhere else at a service this size. It looks like total chaos, but your Christianity is put to the test, and I think it's beautiful. Be patient with your brother and sister. You might see somebody that you might know. Maybe go over there. Hey, you want you want to have communion together. Families, husbands, lead your wife. Kids, be led by your uh let kids be led by your dad or your mom. And if they don't lead you, then junior high or high schooler, then lead lead your mom and dad. This is a family moment.
Heavenly Father, we come before you tonight, Lord. As we see the world doing what the world does, we pause and we say, "It is well. It is well. It is well with my soul." because we don't belong here. And Lord, we pray tonight. And I don't ever want to become that old man that prays the prayer like, "Lord, I'm done. Let's get out of here. I don't care what happens next." No, that's mean. There's a lot of precious young people in this nation of ours, in this world of ours, in this state. Lord, we look in our age, we look back, we see our kids and our grandkids and great grandkids, and we say, "Lord, save them. Lord, open up their eyes to the gospel truth. Cause our kids, Lord, to really know you for real inside. No more room. No, there's no more room for the dumb things of this world. There's the carnal stuff can't get in. It might It might hit us, but it bounces off, but it can't live inside of us. There's no room anymore because Jesus says, "You've just moved in. You've taken over. You've set up every room of our soul. You carpeted the whole place. You painted it. You've rehung the curtains. You brought in fresh new furniture. And you said this area is now my area. This area where you used to do this or you used to think that that's I I moved in over here too. Lord, you don't even leave a closet undone. Maybe tonight, Lord, there's th there are those that are saying, "Jesus, I need this. I need what I'm hearing tonight. Will you come into my life, Lord, and will you forgive me of my sins? [music] And will you receive me tonight in my first communion service with you tonight? Will you hear my first song that I'm going to sing to you, Jesus? Will you take over, Jesus? Move on in. From this moment, take total control. Fill the void in my heart till there's nothing left of me anymore. We want to thank you Lord for [snorts] intentionally eternally having a literal appointment with a cross on Mount Calvary, Mount Goltha there in Jerusalem. Thank you, Lord. And Father, tonight as there's so many needs here, broken marriages, broken hearts. Lord, I'm thinking about that little boy last Wednesday night who stopped me on on my way to the car. He must have been five, six, seven years old. Pastor Jack, please pray that my mom would want to come to church. Wow. Lord, that kind of stuff. Please move among us. Holy Spirit, heal us. Cleanse us. Wash us. Make us aresh. Make us new. As we worship you tonight, Lord, in spirit and in truth, you the one who reveals the Godhead in bodily form. Come and dwell in our midst in worship. May tonight we in our song to you wash your feet with the tears of worship with songs of praise and may you have your way with us. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.
As we worship, take your time, but as we worship, go to the back, come to the front, wherever is convenient for you. Partake of the elements. The cup represents the blood of Jesus, the bread, his body. And we do this in remembrance of him. Let's praise him now [music] together.
