[Music] [Music] God [Music] what should happen if I talk about the definition, if I look for the meaning of Jihad in the dictionary, it will mean that, but in Islamic terminology, it is a type of Jihad, then what will you say? That we have one, a mental Jihad. What is mental Jihad, son? That which we are doing peacefully, on which we are not doing anything. What is spiritual Jihad, son? That which we are doing with ourselves, that which we are stopping ourselves, controlling our desires. And then we have physical Jihad, in which we are fighting with the help of swords and [unintelligible]. Now, if I talk about spiritual Jihad, first of all, you have explained in the introduction that Jihad comes from the root "Jaha" which means to strive in the way of Allah or to remove obstacles in the way of Islam. Jihad has three types: mental Jihad, spiritual Jihad, and physical Jihad. Correct. Mental Jihad, Spiritual Jihad, and Physical Jihad. Now we have spiritual Jihad. If I talk about spiritual Jihad, then humans are superior. Humans have free will. The biggest security for them is spiritual Jihad, because of free will. Now, see, humans can go astray. Every human has two things because of which they go on the wrong path. One is Satan. The Quran says, "Satan is your enemy, so treat him like your enemy." Satan is your enemy, and the second thing is the "Nafs." Now, for example, you have heard that Satan is chained in Ramadan, but still, you must have seen in Ramadan that children are abusing, you must have seen in Ramadan that people are doing bad deeds. Why are they doing it? Satan is chained. It is because of the Nafs, meaning it was not Satan's fault, you were shameless, because of which you did these actions. So, what is the Nafs? The Nafs is that in which evil ideas and temptations come. For example, in our hearts, we have our Nafs, which is under our control. If it can suggest good deeds, it can also suggest bad deeds. It is up to us whether we are controlling our Nafs or not. Now, if I am on my spiritual path, meaning spiritual Jihad, what is spiritual Jihad? It is that, son, the Nafs will put bad ideas in your mind, like abusing someone will be fun, I will abuse so well that it will be fun, or what should I do? Should I hit someone? It will be fun. Then what should I do? Should I tease someone? Or should I see something bad? Or should I listen to a song? It is fun. This is my Nafs saying, "Yes, do this, it will be fun to tease." But if I am controlling the Nafs, then what is it called? Spiritual Jihad. It is called Jihad of the Nafs. What is it called? Yes. If we want to stay on the right path, we have to control our Nafs. Spiritual Jihad is called Jihad against the Nafs. Now, if I have done spiritual Jihad, then I am a successful person. Successful is he who has purified his Nafs. And the last one is he who got trapped in it, who came under the influence of the Nafs. See, the Nafs is telling me, "Abuse the children, abuse them." Then I thought, "Let me abuse you people." Then I controlled my Nafs. "No, children are decent, why abuse them?" Then if I abuse, I will also get sin. I have controlled my Nafs, so I am successful. But if I don't control and start abusing you people profusely, then what will happen when I start abusing? I will be trapped in the Nafs. I will be trapped. So, the successful one is he who purifies his Nafs. And the last one is he who got trapped in the Nafs. He is trapped. And who is successful? He who has purified his Nafs. Then you will say that Satan, what is he? He has evil ideas, evil temptations, and evil desires in his mind. Who is the second enemy? One is the Nafs, and one is Satan. Satan, what is he? The Quran says, "Indeed, Satan is your enemy, so treat him like your enemy." He is your enemy, so treat him like an enemy. Now, what do we need? Now, Allah and the Prophet have told us some ways to do spiritual Jihad. Jihad has to be done, this much is understood. But how? So, if we want to protect ourselves, what should we do? We should fast. What should we do? Fasting. Because when we fast, when we read the pillars of Islam, in the pillars of Islam, we will read this that by fasting, we are controlling ourselves. For example, if Islam is telling me not to abuse, I am not abusing. Now, I have full control over myself. Fasting is the best. You must have seen that people become decent during fasting. We say fasting. You must have seen that in Ramadan, those people also come to pray who don't come otherwise. Then we call them, "Yes, this is..." Then they give names like "This is that..." or "This is so-and-so..." meaning they have to pray. You must have seen that because of fasting. So, if I am fasting, then by it, I am controlling my Nafs. I am not doing bad deeds, I am not abusing, I am doing good deeds, I have control over it. Fasting is the best thing. The second thing is Surah An-Nas. Protect yourself from Surah An-Nas. Because you read about Surah An-Nas in the previous chapters. So, what do we say? "I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, from the evil of the whisperers, who whisper in the breasts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind." And what did we read in that Surah? We read this: "You alone can save us from evil ideas, Allah, you alone can save us from evil." So, if something is saving us from evil, what is it? It is Surah An-Nas. We can read Surah An-Nas. Then what is fasting? There are some categories that you should know. See, if I abused, or if I saw something bad, or if I listened to a song, or if I said something wrong. Now, after doing that wrong deed, I regretted it, I felt guilty. Then I am on the Nafs-e-Lawwamah, on which one? On Nafs-e-Lawwamah. What does Lawwamah mean? It means, son, that I am at a stage where at least I feel guilty. The person has not reached the proper stage of spiritual Jihad. I am halfway there. If I have committed a sin, and after committing the sin, I have asked for forgiveness, I feel guilty. And if I am not committing any sin, I have full control over it, then what is it called? Nafs-e-Mutmainnah. What is it called? Meaning, I am completely perfect. There are two categories of Jihad, but Lawwamah, when I feel guilty, I feel bad, "Oh, I did wrong." But if I have become completely perfect, meaning I am not committing any sin, I have control over it. The Prophet said, "The greatest Jihad is to fight against the evil of one's self." Meaning, this is the greatest Jihad. This is the "Greater Jihad." But in Cambridge, we say that this is absolutely correct. Because the reason is that a 4-mark question will come: "Why did the Prophet say spiritual Jihad is the greatest Jihad?" So, we have to support it, that spiritual Jihad is the greatest Jihad according to Cambridge. But if you go to any scholar, they will say spiritual Jihad is not greater than physical Jihad. If you go to the physical Jihadists, they will say this. But in Cambridge, we have to write this wrong thing: "What is the greatest Jihad, son? The greatest Jihad is to fight against the evil of one's self." So, this is the story. You can also add this: that when the Prophet was returning from the battlefield, what did the Prophet say upon returning from the battlefield? "We are returning from a bigger Jihad, we are going to a bigger Jihad." Meaning, we will do spiritual Jihad. So, this is spiritual Jihad. Now, what is mental Jihad? See, mental Jihad is that I am not fighting, I am using my resources and my intelligence, and by using it, I am making society better. In this, what does the Mujahid do? The one who is doing Jihad is using his intelligence as a weapon. He is not doing it for himself, he is making society better. So, spiritual Jihad is not physical Jihad either, because in this, he is not killing anyone. So, mental Jihad is this: if I am stopping wrong things in my society, like if there is theft, if a child is stealing in my coaching class, if a child is sitting and stealing, I am stopping that child, saying "Don't steal." I am stopping him. I am promoting peace. If two children were fighting, I told them, "Why are you fighting?" I am promoting peace. I am stopping wrong deeds by using media. If I am making my society better in any way, one is Jihad of the sword, and one is Jihad of the pen. What is this? See, Jihad of the pen means by the use of the pen. What am I using? The pen. Jihad of the sword means by the use of the sword. Jihad of the pen means that I am using media, using intelligence, and by using intelligence, I am doing mental Jihad in any way, making society better. The Quran says, "Believers are protectors of each other, enjoining good and forbidding evil." Spread good deeds, stop bad deeds. This is our responsibility. If we don't do any good deed by doing mental Jihad, you might have heard that we have a settlement of very sinful people. A settlement of very sinful people. Inside it, a very righteous man lives. So, what happens is that Allah orders the angels, "Destroy this settlement." So, the angels say, "Your very righteous man lives in this settlement, who worships you a lot." So, Allah will say, "This man must be punished specifically because of this man." So, they ask, "Why should he be punished?" So, they say, "This man only thought of himself, this man only thought of improving himself, not of improving others." So, it is our responsibility that we should enjoin good and forbid evil. Unfortunately, what happens is if you go to teach someone something good here, your friends will tell you. If, for example, I want to tell someone, my friends will still listen to me, I am a teacher. But if I go to one of your friends, I go to one of your friends, and I tell him, "Son, pray." He will say, "Are you praying? Are you praying Fajr?" If I tell him to pray Asr, he will question me about my Fajr prayer. "You are becoming a great worshipper." This is how it is. So, if we are doing something, we should not tease others. Because it is our responsibility that we should enjoin good and forbid evil. To create a better society, this is mental Jihad. Then you will say that the Prophet said, "The ink of the scholars is more holy than the blood of the martyrs." Meaning, this is more than those who are doing physical Jihad. But this is also a weak Hadith, this is also a weak Hadith. But we write it in the paper, "Correct. The Prophet said that mental Jihad is greater." And physical Jihad is a little complete. [Music] Now, within this, you have to understand that there are some conditions for the person who is doing mental Jihad. The condition is that the person doing Jihad knows the teachings of the Quran. What do the teachings of the Quran mean, son? It means he should have knowledge about the Quran. For example, if I am going to do mental Jihad, I am going to please people, I am going to do good deeds, then at least I should know about the Quran, what the Quran says. Tell them the right thing, not the wrong thing. Tell them the teachings of Hadith. Because, see, if you go to anyone, they will judge you based on your knowledge. For example, if I am teaching a child, he will judge me based on whether I am giving him correct knowledge, whether I am telling him about Cambridge. So, he will read, he will not read. Now, what happens is, if I am telling someone good deeds, they will ask me, "Son, what does the Quran say about this?" So, I should know this. I should know about Hadith. Then my character should be spotless. Character means that I should not be a sinner. I should not be openly sinning. I am going to tell others to improve. This is not right. But then it will not be called mental Jihad. Correct. Then this is: we should also follow what we say. If I say, "Pray," then pray. I should also pray myself. After that, your point will come that mental Jihad also says that if I accept Islam for someone, for a non-Muslim, then that also comes under mental Jihad. "Wage war against them with your wealth, your lives, and your speech against the infidels." "Infidel" means a disbeliever. How do you wage war against them? With your wealth, your lives, and your speech. Meaning, if you are making them Muslim, then that also comes under mental Jihad. So, son, what all has come under mental Jihad? Everything has come under mental Jihad. You promote things, with these things, you are making society better, you are removing wrong things from society. So, this comes under mental Jihad. Now, let's come to physical Jihad. Sir, what is this physical Jihad? Physical Jihad is what we call "Jihad bil Saif." Yes. Jihad of the Saif means it is permitted under certain conditions. What are those conditions? You cannot do this against anyone ever unless you are threatened, unless you are attacked. Meaning, what will you do? You will fight to stop evil. If a treaty is broken, you will fight. Meaning, physical Jihad has some conditions. Okay, we are not studying physical Jihad now. We will study physical Jihad in detail later. In today's class, because it is also a 10-mark question, we are just studying normally. What is physical Jihad? When we are facing difficulties, when we are fighting against evil, we do physical Jihad. We should not misuse physical Jihad, and it is always for this purpose. It has some rules: those who hide in their homes will not be killed. You remember what happened in the conquest of Mecca? The Prophet announced that we will not attack those who hide in their homes, who go into the homes of the elderly. We will not attack them. So, civilians will not be attacked. Women, children, and the elderly will not be attacked. Places of worship will not be damaged. The business of war will be treated well. The Battle of Badr is an example before you. How well the captives were treated. They will not be mutilated. They will not be disfigured. The Battle of Uhud is before you. In the Battle of Uhud, we followed these rules of Jihad. Ambassadors will not be killed, otherwise, it becomes a problem. So, these are some rules of war, which we follow in physical Jihad. So, physical Jihad is a general Jihad in which we are using weapons, we are doing it for self-defense, for peace. We can never misuse it, and we have to obey the rules. So, this is physical Jihad. Now, see, how will the question come in the paper? In the paper, the question will come: "Jihad of the tongue, Jihad of the pen, Jihad of the sword." So, these are the three types of Jihad. It will come like this. Here it is written. The child will have a heart attack. The child will say, "Allahu Akbar, sir, you told us that there are three types of Jihad: one is physical Jihad, one is mental Jihad, and one is spiritual Jihad." Son, you have also studied two categories within mental Jihad, three categories. You should remember which ones you studied. They are also mixing those categories. And they are asking you which three. But you will tell all three: mental, physical, spiritual. Meaning, you will tell all five. Correct. Now, I will tell you, sir, you can also lie. You can say, "Perhaps you did not teach us correctly, that's why you are saying this." I will show you the marking scheme now, so that your life becomes easy. First, let's look at the marking scheme, so that your life becomes easy. So, just wait a minute. We are opening the marking scheme. Just wait two or three minutes. The marking scheme, I am opening it to show you, so that your life becomes easy. [Music] Okay, can any student tell me if you can see this screen? Can any child tell me quickly? Yes. Yes. This is not mine. This is the marking scheme. Look at the year, Summer 20 S2. Correct. Now, what is written? Jihad of the tongue, Jihad of the pen, Jihad of the hand, Jihad of the sword. So, these are the five. So, it is the same. They are asking the same thing. There is nothing new that has come. Allahu Akbar, sir, what is this? Our life is over. Nothing like that, son. They will ask you only what you have been taught. Nothing else. Correct. So, what will come is what you are being taught. So, you don't have to worry. See, a child gets confused immediately. Now, if this question comes to you, but if it comes in your paper, then what will you be doing? You will be wasting your time, thinking, "We have learned from such a bad teacher. We have found the worst teacher in the world." You will have ruined the world. At that time, you should use your brain. There will be nothing that you have not been taught. You will have been taught everything. You will know everything for the paper. You just have to not get tense at the time of the paper. The day you get tense at the time of the paper, the examiner will shake you. And then, within this, what will we do? First, we will give the introduction. After the introduction, what will we give? We will give spiritual Jihad, mental Jihad. Mental Jihad, what comes out of the hand? Then we have: "Write an account of the difference in the meaning between the Jihad of the self, the Jihad of the tongue, and the Jihad of the sword." So, this is what we had taken out of mental Jihad. We have explained all these things. "Describe the meaning of the terms Jihad and how Muslims can practice Jihad in their everyday life." We will write the same answer. The question comes, sir, in this, it is about everyday life, so why will we explain physical Jihad? Son, we will also explain physical Jihad. Because if spiritual Jihad and mental Jihad are not working in my everyday life, then I will move on to physical Jihad. So, this is the same answer. Now, we have a question: "What will be the 10-mark question on physical Jihad?" Then, if there is physical Jihad, first of all, I will write the introduction: "Jihad comes from the root 'Jaha', which means to strive in the way of Allah or to remove obstacles." In this answer, what are we talking about? Physical Jihad. In physical Jihad, under what circumstances is it compulsory? So, first, we need to understand this. You will say that if our religion, our religious ideology, our life, our things, our country are under threat, if they are in danger, then physical Jihad becomes compulsory. What does it become? Physical Jihad becomes compulsory. Now, there are two categories in this as well: one is "Fard Kifaya" and one is "Fard Ain." Let's understand Fard Kifaya and Fard Ain. What is Fard Ain? Fard Kifaya means it will be on a specific group. For example, if I am living in Pakistan, where am I living, son? In Pakistan. Understand, this is Pakistan, this is Syria, this is Palestine. Correct. These are all countries. Now, what do I have? When will Fard Kifaya happen? If there is an attack on Palestine, if there is oppression in Palestine, then my country, I am living in Pakistan, so it is obligatory for my army to help the people of Palestine. It is Fard. This is called Fard Kifaya. That if your other countries, if an attack happens on a Muslim state that is not within your borders, but in another country, then it becomes obligatory for your army to help. But unfortunately, we have become so shameless that we are only busy making songs. We are busy making songs. We will teach the enemies. We will teach the children of the enemies. We are teaching. We have to do nothing in life. Although wrong is happening, wrong is happening in Syria, oppression is happening in Kashmir. We say our army is number one. Number one, but for what? If we cannot fulfill our Fard, then Fard Kifaya. Second thing is Fard Ain. If my country, I am living in Pakistan, and Pakistan is attacked, then everyone will be obligated. For example, if our ruler says, "It is for everyone," then it will become. What will it become? Fard Ain. Meaning, if our ruler has said, "Imran Khan has said it is for everyone," then it is for me. I cannot run away. It's a different matter that I will run away, I will hide. But this is that it has become Fard. So, physical Jihad is practiced only when other modes of Jihad fail. Spiritual Jihad, mental Jihad, Jihad of the pen, Jihad of the sword, all if they fail, then we do physical Jihad. Which Jihad do we do? Physical Jihad. So, the circumstances under which it becomes compulsory. So, you will say that when your life, your possessions, your country, your religion, your ideologies are being damaged and threatened, then we do physical Jihad. Then, when is physical Jihad practiced? When other things cannot be practiced. When is Fard Kifaya? When is Fard Ain? So, you will tell that. Then you will say the conditions of physical Jihad. What are the conditions of physical Jihad? It cannot be waged by anyone at any time. It is not that whenever the heart desires, attack someone. Now, the child's question comes, sir, we have read so many battles in "Life in Medina" that the Prophet was planning to attack secretly. So, this is like that. Son, even if attacking secretly, it was informed there, or it was known, or there was a specific day on which the attack was carried out. Attacks were not carried out at night. Correct. So, this is what we have: even if going at night, they would set up camp, and the attack would not happen. Second thing, Muslims can only fight when they are free, independent, under Islamic rules. Meaning, if I am living in Canada, and if oppression is happening to me in Canada, then I cannot do Jihad because my leader is not a Muslim. I am not free. I am not independent. I depend on someone else there. I cannot do Jihad. Give an example, son. You have read any battle in "Life in Mecca"? Because in "Life in Mecca," the Prophet was not the leader. In "Life in Medina," the Prophet was the leader. The Prophet had become the leader, which is why all the battles happened in Medina. So, Muslims should be free, independent, under Islamic rule. That is why there was no war in Mecca. In Medina, we did Jihad. Then you will say, what is it for? For self-defense. For aggression. If I am showing anger, I have to show that. If you read, you will find a reason for every battle. Why was the Battle of Badr fought? Because they attacked our possessions and our land. Why was the Battle of Uhud fought? Because they were planning to attack. Why was the Battle of the Trench fought? Because all of them gathered and came. Then the Battle of the Conquest of Mecca, they broke our treaty. They broke the treaty, so war is allowed. Then you have the Battle of Khaybar. You will see a purpose everywhere. You cannot fight unnecessarily. You cannot show aggression, because Islam is all about peace. Permission is given to fight those against whom war is made. So, permission is given to fight. Now, if permission to fight is given, then there are some rules of war, which we have to follow. First, you will invite them towards Islam. You have seen in most wars that we invited them. When you read about the Caliphate, or when you read about Hazrat Ali going to fight, first invite them. After inviting, say, "Islam." If they accept Islam, then it is good. If they don't, then we tell them to make peace. Peace means, what? Pay Jizya if it is our territory. Otherwise, what will happen? A peace treaty will be signed. If they do not agree to that either, meaning, first, what did we say? Either accept Islam, or make peace. If they don't do both, then war. For example, when Hazrat Ali went to Khaybar, what did he tell them? Ali, try to invite them towards Islam. Then try to make a peace treaty. If they disagree to both, then fight. So, fighting unnecessarily is not allowed. Islam is all about peace. Many children have a misconception that by reading about Islam, they think that we fought with everyone here, we captured places. No, we did nothing wrong. Wrong was done to us, that's why we did all these things. So, Islam is all about peace. Son, if peace is decided, then you will do this, and we will give them religious freedom. They can follow their religion peacefully. But during war, what is the thing? You will not harm children, women, and the elderly. Take the example of the Conquest of Mecca. You will not kill prisoners. You will not damage places of worship. For example, in the Caliphate of Hazrat Umar, when they were expanding, they did not damage churches. Then you will treat captives well. Give the example of the Battle of Badr. Then you will not mutilate corpses. Give the example of the Battle of Uhud. That we will not disfigure the corpses there, the bodies that are coming. So, these are the rules we will follow in physical Jihad. So, what will be the 10-mark question on physical Jihad? The 10-mark question will be: "Under what circumstances is physical Jihad compulsory?" Then I explained what Fard Kifaya is and what Fard Ain is. Then I explained the conditions and then the rules that we have to follow. And this same question has come here: "Write an account of the Prophet's teachings about armed field Jihad and under what circumstances Jihad is thought to be compulsory." So, this is a 10-mark question on physical Jihad. If any child has a problem with this, they can ask me, "Sir, I have a problem." And if no one has a problem, then the child will move on. Now, within our question, what will come? Introduction. Your question has come: "Explain the meaning of the term Jihad." Now, the question will come: "In your opinion, what is the most important kind of Jihad?" What is the most important kind of Jihad? Because there are three types of questions. That's why I have explained that it is talking about. Why is it greater? Because, see, evil is being removed from its root. Because if every person is good, then a good society is being formed. No one will be bothering each other. If a person controls his Nafs, he will not steal. The society will improve on its own. If a person does that, then he will never oppress anyone. Then there will be no need for physical Jihad. So, in this way, it is greater. Then, if a person is controlling himself, strengthening his willpower, then it is the most difficult task. Controlling one's Nafs is the most difficult task. So, when he is doing that, that's why it is very important. Then you will say that when we are doing spiritual Jihad, we are becoming pure people. So, our inner peace is coming, our purity is coming, we are becoming pure people, decent people. So, peace is coming from within. Then you will say that when we are doing spiritual Jihad, when it is stopping you from bad deeds, then there are only temptations. We will not run after all those things. We will not take wrong paths. We will not rush to become rich. You will say this is wrong. Then we will think, "Let me help others." So, the money I have, I will help others with it. The society will become better and better. The Prophet himself said, "This is the Greater Jihad." And once, when they were returning from battle, what did he say? "We are returning from a smaller Jihad to a bigger Jihad." So, in this way, we know that spiritual Jihad is the greatest Jihad. Then we have the question. Then we have a 4-mark question: "In your opinion, what is the importance of following the rules of armed Jihad in modern times?" Why is it important to follow the rules of physical Jihad in this era? Because it is important because Islam is saying what? First negotiate, first sign a treaty, then fight, make peace. What is the benefit of that? There will be no bloodshed. Relations will be good. See, if I kill someone, he will kill me back. But if I forgive someone, if I give religious freedom, he will be happy. When he is happy, he will do good deeds in front of me. Then you will say that Islam says that during Jihad, do not harm women, children, and the elderly. What will be the benefit of this? The benefit will be that innocents will not be killed. Only he will be killed because of whom the war is happening. So, this is a very good thing. First, Islam says to treat the captives well. What will be the benefit of this? The benefit will be that the captives will be impressed. They will be impressed that Islam is a good religion. They will come to the right path. They will commit fewer sins. And I, when I released people like them, they accepted Islam. So, the point is, what will happen? Positive impacts will come. If we follow their rules, what will be the benefits? Then the question is: "The Prophet's teachings about physical Jihad are not relevant today. Agree or disagree." So, you will say, "Absolutely relevant." "Disagree with this statement" that it is not relevant. It is absolutely relevant. Why? Because even today, we sign peace treaties. Even today, we do not attack. And we save innocents. Even today, we treat captives well. Even today, in war, we do not break treaties and kill children. So, everything is possible. And even today, these rules are relevant. We can debate this that it is absolutely relevant. Correct. So, this is a 4-mark question: why is it relevant? So, you will say that all these things are possible. There is nothing that is not possible. [Music]
