All right, so in this video, we're going to talk about VMware and how to get conductivity through your VMware Workstation to your host and through your host to your VMware Workstation and vice versa, so that you can actually get connectivity to the real world using your host machine. Okay, so this will be using, again, as you see, I have my virtual machine set up, um, right here, my virtual machine settings. Um, if you want to, you go to your virtual machine right here. You can actually, if I, if I wanted to, I could go to, uh, one of my other VMs that I currently have. I go to tabs, I can go to my computer, go to one of my other VMs, and I can easily edit the settings right here. You can easily see that I have my settings. I always run two adapters. A lot of people ask why I run two adapters, and, and I'll show you exactly why. We're gonna go in this VM right here, I'll show you. I'll open up settings inside of while I'm running the VM. I'm gonna open up settings right there. There's some things you can change and some things you can't change while you're running the VM, so keep that in mind.

All right, so first off, all right, let's go through this. Your settings right here, you can just keep in mind, you can add and subtract whatever you want to, merely by coming down here and hitting add. Okay, now adding, you can see you can add hard disk, you can add CD-ROM, floppy disk, network settings, USB. So if you don't have a USB, you can add the USB, and by the way, if you do add the USB, you can choose which version of USB you want to use, 2.0 or higher, or 3.0, or whatever the case may be, just a little tip for you. But network settings, okay, so network adapter is what you want to add if you're trying to get conductivity outward or inward, for that matter, right? So if you're talking about network settings, you want to go to get a network adapter. So I can easily add a network adapter right there. That would be my third network adapter in this case. I'll just do bridged just to show you this, and right now, I'll hit add. What it's going to do is save my virtual machine, and it's going to restore it, right? So basically, it's going to make a quick edit, and it's going to bring it right back, not a big deal whatsoever. So, but 90% of the time when you're doing this, you're going to do this with the virtual machine off, so it's in its off state. Now, I'm doing this in on state just for the simple fact to show you that you can do it on the on state. Just know that you will see what I'm seeing, so you will see that restore session. So if you're doing anything, anything important, I suggest you probably don't do that at that point in time because it will take you back to the, it will restore your session exactly where you were. But let's just go back in and look at the network now.

Okay, so I'm gonna look at my network settings, and if I go to Ethernet, and I go up here, you can easily see I have three adapters. Okay, now again, so let me go over here, and if I come over here and delete, if I go to my settings and delete this one because I don't want it, okay, again, it's going to come back and it's going to delete it. Now, as you've seen it, when it deleted it, it did not have to restore session. All right, so the reason is because, again, it's not adding something, it's subtracting it, and that's the way VMware works. Now, I have named, I personally went and named these so that I knew exactly what they were, like one is my wireless, and one is my actual NIC card, meaning my actual physical plugin where my Ethernet will be adapted to will be connected to. So if I open up the setting, I have this connected, uh, through my network card, and I have this as a static IP address, 192.168.1. So what does that do for me? What that does is gives conductivity through RS Links, and I'll show you that real quick. Uh, so if I pull up RS Links, um, let's just type in RS Links, right? All right, so it's classic, and I were to come over here, and if I had an automatic driver for that instance, um, you could come in here and see that I'm going to pull up my information. Now, why is that the case? Is because if I go into driver configuration, I'm pointed to that exact one right here. This says Intel, and then it says Gigabyte Network Connection. Um, and then it says the second one is Network Connection 2, which I'll show you that one. This one is Network Connection 2. It's not gonna find anything because it's my wireless card, and my wireless is connected to my internet right now. So if I were to go to configuration, you can see it's Network 2. Now, how do I know which one is the network I want to use? Um, go back to the wireless, or you go back to your, your network settings, you can hover over them, and it will tell you Network Connection right here, and this will say Network Connection 2, meaning I, if I go on the internet, which I can go on the internet on this computer, if I type in Chrome, and I go right here, I can hit the internet right here, and let's just say I go to ab.com, I can go to ab.com, and it searches the internet. Now, again, so if I cut my wireless off, let's just say I disable that, I come over here, and I were to go to Chrome, now I have no conductivity to the real world. So if I go to ab.com, it's not going to go anywhere. Do you see that? So again, coming back here, if I enable that again, and that's my, that's why I labeled it wireless. I can easily, and just by coming in here, changing the name right here, I can decipher which one is what, right? So, um, now again, how did I do that? How did I go about getting this information? How did I go about understanding which one is what? Okay, um, now you understand that I'm using two network cards. All right, I'm using two network adapters through my settings, right? Through my settings, I'm using two network adapters, but this is, uh, unlike most, what most people would see. I'm using this slightly different. You can see this one says, uh, it's a custom specific virtual network, which is VMnet3, and this one right here is VMnet10. Most of the time, most of the time, I will say this, you're going to be using your local bridge. I have my system set up a specific way just to show you an advanced way to do things. Okay, let me talk about this. Let me show you how to do this. So this video is very important that you get this information. Just keep in mind, I'm using, uh, VMnet3 and using VMnet10. Okay, all right.

So now we're going to go up to our settings up here. We're going to go to Edit, and then we're going to go to Virtual Network Editor. Okay, now in Virtual Network Editor, you're going to be able to see everything that you currently have, right? I can see everything that I currently have. Um, I can't necessarily see what it's connected to. So in order to do that, I'm going to go down here to says Change Settings. Okay, this is going to have this pop-up window. You click Yes. It's not going to pop up on your VM, it's going to pop up on your host. So we're going to go back to our host, and you can see through my settings right here, I have VMnet3 hooked up through my wireless adapter. It's bridged to my physical host, to my network, my wireless adapter. If I pull up my wireless adapter over here, you can see, um, if I pull up my connections, all my connections right here, you can see that my wireless adapter right here is what it's connected to. This is, I have right here, this is my wireless adapter. Now, the, um, VMnet10 right here, I've specifically bridged that to my Killer Ethernet Gig 2.5 Gig Gigabit Ethernet controller. So again, this is, uh, what, just so you know, that's just a specific NIC card I have on my computer, and that is exactly where the Ethernet cable is plugged into. So that, just so you know, the conductivity and how to set up a virtual network. Okay, you don't have to do this. You can set up all your stuff, um, through automatic. They do have an, uh, and to do so, if you want to add a new network, you just add a new network like this. You come in here, and you would assign it. I come in here, and you can assign it IP addresses. You can, however, come in here, and you can, no, you no longer have the ability to choose from something you're already using. However, you can set it as a NAT, or you can set it internally to a private address, or whatever the case may be. What I'm going to do is remove this network because I don't need it, but I want to show you the two that I'm using and how I'm using those. Now, I can create a NAT, do, uh, very specific things. I can use my bridge connection, and that through that, if I wanted to, that's one way to do that. That's again, a network translation table, meaning in this case, I could use a network. I'm using my local host IP address, which is right here. I would use that, and then I would branch that down, and then utilize this DHCP range right here. So, could I, in the same focus, right? Could I use, um, VMnet8 for that instance, right? For this right here, for my, my, uh, using my Gigaport or Gigabit, uh, Ethernet, right? So you can easily apply all this, and once you apply this, what it does is it stops your sessions, or it stops your conductivity for a second, and it brings it back. What you do, if you have edited it, keep this in mind, if you have edited it. Now, um, oh, and by the way, while we're talking about the, the physical host IP addresses, um, my physical host IP addresses, I always keep it DHCP, dynamically controlled. Okay, dynamically controlled. I do not put a private IP address on any of my, um, host computer, anything like that. It's all DHCP. So just so you're aware of that, your host should be DHCP, and any private addresses you're putting, make sure you put that on your VM. Okay, so in your, your adapters over here, you put that on your, your private IP addresses right here. So this is where you would do any kind of private IP addresses instead of DHCP, and that focus, right? Now, again, uh, this is my wireless. You can see it is connected. Sometimes you would have to come in here and cycle the connection if you made an edit. Uh, then you would cycle the connection, just merely turn it off, and then turn it right back on. It will then, in turn, find itself. And again, if I'm browsing right here, you can see that I'm connected. If I do turn, if I disable this, you can see the conductivity will drop. Um, eventually, it does take a second for it to drop, but it will drop eventually. Um, but again, you see that drop right there, again, just similar to the, uh, just going out to the, uh, world wide web, right? So just the same thing on my wireless card, right? So if I enable it, it will come back, and then we'll give me conductivity back to my devices. So again, understand, understanding your how your setup for your virtual network is going to be very, uh, pertinent to understand how many devices you want to set up. Me personally, I like to separate my NIC card from my wireless, so I understand what I'm controlling. And I also, again, a good habit is to give it a name so that you keep everything, you keep a nice sane understanding of how things are working.

Now, again, talking about that NAT, could we actually come into VM settings and change the very first adapter right here to the NAT that we are using, which is the, uh, VMnet8, right? And that's going to be using the private and private network address, but it's going to be using the actual address again from the actual, and this is the wireless, right? Uh, so I believe we changed, uh, let's see if we changed the wireless or we changed. Let's, let's go ahead and cycle the connections, make sure everything is good. Um, yeah, and so we still have our connection right here. So we did, uh, change the network, uh, adapter, right? So let's keep in mind what, what network adapter we did change right here. Is we changed the network one. Okay, now again, when it came back to it, I'm using my, I'm using that through a NAT. I'm using, meaning I'm using, uh, my actual computer, my host computer, I'm using my host computer connection through my Ethernet. I'm using that through a network translation table. Again, how do I, how am I doing that? Again, it gets to not confuse the issue again, further than what we already have, because this gets very complex, very quickly, is to go to Virtual Network Editor. You can easily see this as a NAT, and this uses my bridge connection, which uses the shared host IP address of the, and then what I'm doing is I'm coming down here and setting my IP range. Um, that gets kind of tricky. Okay, so just keep in mind the very simple methodological, uh, method, like method to use would be to just basically come up here and use a, a very simple setup, as you would come into settings, and instead of using eight, I would use my, my three again. And that three is directly connected. If I correlate that to my network transla, or to my actual virtual network up here, uh, you can easily see that's going to be linked to my, um, and if I go to my, my change settings, you can easily see, let's go back to here, that's connected to my actual wireless. Okay, so this was connected to my wireless, and this is connected to my, um, my Ethernet port. So just keep that in mind. So I think I swapped those two. So just, uh, just so we're aware, let's go back and go to the VM, go back to the VM, let's go to the VM, and make sure we change the right thing. So you can see the conductivity drop. Okay, so VMnet10 is what I wanted to change. Let's put that in my NAT. Okay, now you see that drop. You see there's no conductivity there whatsoever. It will identify itself again, and let's see if the conductivity comes back again. That's using that NAT. So it, that all depends if I have that NAT set up properly. Not sure if I do or don't at this point in time, but let's cycle that connection just to make sure that we have everything set. And looks like we don't have conductivity up here because it's probably because we're independently using our network translation table, or we're independently using our NIC card through another driver, which is going to be the, if you go over the settings, this is going to be using instead of 8, it's going to be using 10 as my actual Ethernet port. Now, with that said, if I put that back to 10, this should come over here, and then I should be able to obviously get my connectivity back. You see it picked up, um, pretty quickly right there, right? It picked up really, really, really quick right here. So again, I'm not able to see, um, this. So in my environment, though, I'm using, I have a completely separate network. I have a 192.168.1.whatever, that's a private IP address. It's a private network, and then I'm also connected to the wireless. This would be basically, if I change the name of this, would be wireless/internet, if I could get that all that, uh, in there. So basically, that gives me the internet, and then the other one would give me like automation, all my automation stuff of that nature. So again, when it comes down to it, that's a little, um, it can get a little tricky how you set it up. Just make sure you understand the facts of if you're coming into your VMs, go to your VMs, right? Go to your, uh, let's just go to one of the ones I don't have set up. So I'm going to tabs real quick, I don't have running, and I go to one of the ones right here, I can easily go over here, go to Edit Virtual Machine Settings, and then you can see I have two adapters over here, right? I have one pointed to my bridge, and another one pointed to my VM8, right? So I'm using my network translation table on that one. Again, it all depends on how you're set up and how you want to be set up. Naturally, people are going to be using their bridges. Just make sure you're not going to have your network translation, or you're not going to have your virtual network set up like mine. I wouldn't suggest that. I would just say because I'm using more of an advanced setup. What I will say is that you keep it simple. The simplest process is the easiest process when it comes to connectivity, especially through VM settings. Okay, so just keep in mind, but you do see this is a simple, easy path to have everything working and have good connectivity to the real world. This is a real world processor, a real world, uh, PowerFlex drive, and again, uh, this is using my NIC card. If I unplug my NIC card, um, then you can easily see everything will disappear, and I should have everything. So right now, I believe I unplugged my NIC card. Let me see if this is the correct one. Um, yeah, I unplugged my NIC card, and then if I plug it back in, I have conductivity back in. Okay, it's that simple. Um, and then the other one, obviously, is my again, going back to my using Chrome, if I wanted to hit the real world internet for any given reason, um, in my case, it would be ab.com for like updates and stuff like that, support, maybe by coming to support, get knowledge base, or something of that nature. Again, when it comes down to it, hopefully that was helpful on setting VMs up and setting the information up that you need to actually be have good conductivity through your host settings, your host, whether you're using a laptop or using a desktop, and or getting conductivity through your VMs, right? So make sure you set up and make sure you check the, the proper things. And again, don't be afraid to make a change. Don't be afraid to come in here to your settings and make a change while the VM is live. Always just come back after you make a change and just cycle the connection. I always disable and then I re-enable. That's as simple as you can do it. I'm not a big fan of actually going back and using the diagnose right here, uh, just because of how long it takes. And again, again, when it comes on to it, it's very simple how to set the stuff up as soon as you get the complex, or the, the base foundation of, um, understanding of topology of how the two things work together.
