NYC Diaries | What i’m wearing this spring

So, it is that time of the year. It is officially spring. New York has finally entered spring. We went, I swear, winter, which was, we had a really harsh winter, and then we went to our random, like, peak summer, and then kind of went into spring, then just dropped straight back into winter, and now I think we have finally settled in spring, and it is so nice.

So, I thought today I'd go through some of my spring outfits, do the whole annual kind of like, what I'm wearing this spring. This time a little bit different for two reasons. One, my wife's going to feature a little. She's just going to like, just, you know, just show a couple, like, maybe like four outfits and stuff of kind of like what she likes to wear. And then also, the start of this like video and the outfits that I show, I'm really wanting to show a lot more of like, genuinely how I go about dressing in spring, instead of just showing you a bunch of outfits. I am going to be showing you a bunch of outfits, but the first bit is how I literally can have some of the same bases and what I actually do day-to-day, which is just change out some pieces. And then the second part of the video will be kind of just like, just showing quite a few, just like different outfits that I might wear.

Anyway, that's enough rambling. Let's, let's get into the first outfit. Starting off with outfit number one. And this is kind of like a staple for me for spring. And it's definitely like a way that I definitely like, like to dress now. And that is kind of doing that whole Ralph tuck. So, tucking that shirt in to the trousers. And I kind of just like what it does for like, the whole overall look of an outfit.

On foot, I have the La Mer mules in this beautiful brown. Then I have these old DS sample trousers. As you can see, I have just like rolled up the bottom of the hem, just 'cause they are a little bit too long. Then I have this brown belt from Maximum Henry. The shirt is from Buck Mason. So is the t-shirt on underneath.

There are two essential trousers for spring that I'll be talking about in this video, and one of them is white trousers. It doesn't have to be these exact ones, but I do think white trousers are such an essential, and they kind of just give any outfit that spring look.

Now, I do have my sunglasses as well, and I do feel like that just honestly does complete any spring outfit. I just feel they can just look a little bit silly on me right now because I am standing inside, but if I was outside, it would definitely complete the whole look. And these ones, and they're going to be the only ones that you see in this whole video, these ones are from the brand Chimmy.

One thing I really want to kind of like show you guys in this video is more of a realistic, like, kind of like how I wear and how I kind of think when it comes to spring and summer, because an outfit like this again is great tucked in. And then the reason why I've got this t-shirt on underneath is 'cause I'm thinking about again, if it gets a bit too, bit too hot or whatever, I can easily take it off, put this over my shoulder, and then I just have a really nice, like, base outfit that works without the shirt as well. If I want, I can also tie it around my waist. So, I always try to think what does my outfit look like when I have to kind of like remove layers, because if it gets too hot, I don't want to be stuck in the outfit and start overheating. So, again, simple as this. Or I literally just chuck this in a bag and, you know, I'm just good to go.

We'll take a break from me and go to my wife's first outfit.

>> So, just like Daniel, I have a pair of white trousers. They're just such a good basic and a staple in the springtime. You can kind of pair them with any color and anything. These are from Uniqlo. They're like a barrel leg. I'm pairing them with just like a simple white tank top underneath here, and then this sort of like open-knit sweater is from the Gap, so it's a little like breezier than a typical knit. I've got a bag from APC on, like a suede brown bag. And these boots are from Our Legacy. This is an example of how I just threw on a different top with the same base, and it's like a whole new outfit, but it's really versatile. And this shirt is from Uniqlo.

The second essential trouser for spring in my opinion is a nice dark wash pair of indigo jeans. So, white trousers or white jeans and a pair of dark indigo jeans. The reason why is because I find indigo jeans can just smarten up any outfit. And when you're limiting yourself on layers, I think it's again, when you pair them with like loafers like this and a t-shirt, it's a great, still nice casual outfit that just has again, a little bit more like elegance and chic to it. You'll also see me pair loafers with pretty much any outfit 'cause like I said, it does help just elevate it and it just works with any outfit.

I don't overcomplicate things in spring. So, literally, I can wear a gray t-shirt like this. Literally switch it out for a simple white t-shirt. Now, you just have another outfit that, like I said, looks a little bit more presentable because of the dark wash indigo jeans and the loafers. Also, before I forget, these jeans are from Vuja De. So, shout out to UK. These are definitely one of my favorite pair of jeans that I have.

And then let's say you need to smarten it up a little bit, whether it's going into the office, a nice little date night, or like, you know, kind of like a smart casual event to go to. Literally keep the base on, the loafers, the jeans, then you can add a shirt, tuck it in. This shirt actually is a sample from my own line. It's our new linen shirt that we're working on. It's not finished yet, but I wanted to show it just in the sense of like linen is such a great kind of like breathable material in spring. So, it's a good option to go for.

Or maybe you just want to go with something a little bit more relaxed and flowy. I've got the shirt from Our Legacy and then I've got the DS ribbed vest on underneath. And literally, you can make this even more casual. Literally, I could just switch out the loafers here and just add on the flip-flops. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but now you've just got like a very, very just casual kind of like, I, I don't want to say beach outfit, because you don't need to go to the beach in jeans, but you know, by the coastline, whatever. Just a nice, just a nice casual outfit.

Let's say there's a bit of a breeze. You could chuck on a long sleeve Henley, push the sleeves up, have them down. It's a nice, again, smart casual outfit. The main thing again that I'm trying to show you is that literally switching out just one or two things. Again, you don't need a massive wardrobe can really just change up the look. And when you have like a strong base like indigo jeans, you can make so many different things work. I could wear almost any color Henley I want with this outfit, any color t-shirt I want with this outfit. Literally, I can chuck on even just like a more casual, like long sleeve. This is the DS athletic long sleeve top. And the cream just teams up really nicely with the indigo jeans.

Let's say it's a bit of a colder spring day, but you still want to look smart casual. Going navy on navy is great as well. You have that little white t-shirt popping through. And then if it does get too hot, you literally just chuck it over your shoulders. Again, it can be colder in spring, so I literally just switch in a jacket over the top. That base is the same. White t-shirt, indigo jeans, loafers. I feel like I'm going to just be repeating myself, but I really just want to push the message home of just switching out key pieces can just literally just give you so many different options.

>> So, I'm wearing a trench now, which is another like great staple for spring. It's like light enough during these months where it's a little bit cooler but not fully hot. I'm wearing a pair of capris, which I feel like are making a comeback at the moment. These are from Free People but like really, really old. Like a little tank top from Skim. The trench is actually a men's vintage trench um that I had tailored to like fit me a little bit better. These shoes are Tony Bianco, like the kittenist of kitten heels. And this bag is from Freya NYC.

Something that I wear a lot in springtime is some nice flowy trousers. These are the DS Fatigue trousers, but what's key about these is that they have a cotton linen blend, so they're very breathable and nice and flowy. I've teamed them up with some beautiful brown sandals. These ones from Churches. We have the brown belt from before. And then I have this navy t-shirt as well. An outfit like this, I can literally switch in any t-shirt I want. I could bring that gray t-shirt back from before, team it up with a hat, a bag, going for just a nice, again, casual outfit. This could be like going to the farmers market or something like that.

Or we bring it all the way back to a personal favorite of mine, the Ralph Tuck. This shirt is from Buck Mason. You can even chuck on different hats just to change up the look as well. Very matchy-matchy with my very faded DS cap. Just really playing into those earth tones, or added slightly different faded hat and kind of just, you know, play into the whole I'm in New York vibe as well.

>> So, similar to what Daniel said, I think a pair of indigo jeans just really give you the opportunity to like smarten up an outfit. These are a great pair from Levi's. They're like their Japanese denim collection, something like that. They also kind of have a barrel leg, as you can tell. I quite enjoy that shape. This shirt is relatively new and I got it from a brand in New York called Modref. Belt is something vintage. Bag is again the Freya NYC. And these boots are Kate, I think is how they're pronounced. And similarly to Daniel, um, you could basically just keep the base of this outfit with the indigo jeans and swap it out for like a different shirt or jacket or sweater and have like a whole new outfit that's very versatile.

When it comes to dressing up in spring, I try to kind of only wear like two layers and I try to keep them nice, flowy, and light. So again, on foot, you see I do have the Row loafers. Also, I do want to note, you don't need the Row loafers. Banana Republic have a very, very similar pair for a much cheaper price. For the trousers, these are 100% wool and again, don't be mistaken by wool. Wool is a very, very good breathable material in spring and summer. These are a sample pair from DS and they're super, as you see, super lightweight and flowy. And we have this beautiful shirt which from Our Legacy. I think it's two seasons old, but again, very flowy and breathable.

This look is quite smart. It's a little bit corporate, but maybe I want to go with something that's a little bit more fun and kind of like fashion-forward. So, this is something I wear when I want to have just a little bit more fun, a little bit more of a statement piece. It is quite sheer, and obviously I can tuck it in if I want to smarten up the look as well.

Maybe I want to look smart but I don't want to wear a shirt. That's when like a nice fitted t-shirt like this can work. Whether it is in a subtle color like this, or maybe I want to keep it super classic and smart and I just go for an all-black outfit. Also, just seen in the viewfinder, excuse my hair. I am literally just chucking on and off stuff. So if, if I was going out properly, I'd be a little bit more presentable.

Let's say I don't want to wear black trousers 'cause black trousers can seem quite formal and quite dressed up. I could literally just wear all those top layers from before with a lighter pair of trousers. These ones here are the soft pleated trousers from my own brand in the pebble color. And as you see, you can team them up the exact same way. Everything still looks smart. It just looks a little less formal than those pleated black trousers from before. I've also just switched out the black loafers for the La Mer brown mules just 'cause I feel it teams better with the trousers. And I've added a brown belt.

So, this is like a very classic girls' night or date night outfit. I'm wearing a skirt from Modref, that new brand in New York City that we went to. I have a top just from Zara and the same Freya NYC bag that I've been loving a lot lately, clearly. And I'm wearing a pair of vintage Manolo Blahniks for my ladies out there. They are the most comfortable pair of heels and worth the investment secondhand or new. And honestly, if I got a bit cold, I'd probably bring like a sweater to toss over my shoulders just in case since it's not fully summer, obviously.

>> So, then we bring it back to the white trousers and teaming it up with one of my favorite just combinations to wear with white trousers, and that is navy, white, and brown. Now, this outfit again is more for a cooler day in spring. I do have this corduroy jacket which is from the Gap, which I think has a really nice fit to it. And I do have my La Mer bag as well just to carry any daily essentials. But again, if it does get too hot, I can easily remove the jacket because the base is nice. Again, just a nice fitted navy t-shirt, so it still has that same overall look. And if I really want to, I can remove the bag, the jacket, put the hat on backwards, and have that whole love story aesthetic.

Okay, so this is an outfit I actually probably wear the most, probably on a daily basis, to take Jonah out for a walk in the morning when it's a little bit colder. I also probably wouldn't be wearing makeup, candidly. These are just a pair of leggings. I don't even know where they're from. They were so old. I'm wearing a vintage Patagonia that Daniel originally got for himself, but unfortunately it did not fit him. So, lucky me. And I'm wearing a pair of Solomons with them just for comfort. So, that this one I can keep up with her. Headband for warmth in the mornings as well for my ears and a pair of sunnies that are still from Vila, the same pair from before.

>> So, that's a bit more of like a realistic look into like how myself and also my wife do dress in spring. We keep things simple. We keep the base simple, especially if we find a base that we like, like you saw in the go jeans, switching things in and out. And on our day-to-day, that is how we dress, but that doesn't mean we don't like wear a whole bunch of different outfits or again, we have other shoes and things like that. So, we do switch other things in and out. So, like while I talk now, I'll overlay other outfits that I will be wearing throughout spring.

Springtime, I think, is my favorite season for like getting dressed and stuff. Mainly because it's just, it's so simple. Like, it's literally like two to three items max, like trousers, t-shirt, shirt, or trousers and t-shirt, and it's just refreshing. Like, I love fall for like all the layering, but at the same time, you just get to keep things simple here. I think because we live in a time on social media and we see so many people, including obviously myself, creating all different types of outfits and wearing different outfits all the time, it can make you feel like you have to wear something fresh every single day. And I'm here to tell you, you definitely don't. And I'm here to tell you that I definitely do not do that. If you follow me on Instagram or TikTok, sometimes I'm showing you outfits that I literally have worn, but a lot of the time I'm just showing you outfit ideas because that's part of my job. And I definitely repeat my favorite outfits. I literally have an album in my phone called like, my favorite outfits that I literally just go to so that whenever I'm in a rush or whatever, so there's a little tip. If you do have outfits that you like, save them, save them to your phone, and I'll literally scroll through and be like, "Oh, boom. That'll work for today. Put it on." And that way I'm not trying to like come up with something new.

This is a weird ramble, but I just feel because I feel it in myself sometimes that I'm always seeing people in these really cool outfits and stuff, and I feel that sometimes I need to like, you know, level it up and be less basic and be less minimal. But I'm here to tell you that you don't. Like, I just encourage you to dress exactly how you want to dress and like, don't ever think that you can't pull something off because honestly, that is just in your head. Because when someone sees you for the first time in the streets, that's all they're seeing for you. That is their complete first impression of you. So, in their eyes, they're like, this is the authentic version of this person. Honestly, it's just that spotlight effect, and it is all just in our head.

Again, fashion should just be fun. We shouldn't be overthinking it. We shouldn't be stressing about are we following the correct rules? Are we wearing the correct color combinations? I'm a huge believer that when it comes to fashion, there are no rules. It's just guidelines. And honestly, again, like I said before, wear just what makes you happy. Even if it's the same outfit every single day, that is great.

Anyway, team, that is a lot of rambling. I hope you enjoyed today's video, and I will see you in the next one. Peace.
