The tragedy is not that believers lack passion. The tragedy is that passion without legal standing is merely religious noise. You can shout at a locked door all day, but without the key, you remain outside. You can command a defendant all you want, but if you are not the judge, your words carry no weight.
And here is the shattering truth most will never hear from a pulpit. The majority of spiritual warfare teaching in the American church today is built on a foundation of unbelief disguised as faith. It teaches believers to beg God to do what He has already done. To ask Jesus to defeat an enemy He has already destroyed, and to bind a devil who has already been stripped of his legal authority over every blood-bought child of God.
Colossians 2:15 declares, "and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Not "will triumph," not "is triumphing." Triumphed, past tense, finished. The victory is not in question. What is in question is whether you know how to enforce a verdict that has already been rendered.

The reason your binding and loosing has not worked is not because the enemy is too strong. It is because you have been operating outside the one realm where binding and loosing have any legal force: to the finished work of the cross and the authority that flows from your union with the risen Christ. You have been trying to defeat a defeated foe using authority you do not understand you already possess.
Kenyon put it plainly: "Most believers are trying to gain a victory instead of enforcing one." And until you grasp that distinction, you will spend the rest of your life exhausting yourself in a war that Jesus already won.
Let us go to the scripture that holds the master key to all spiritual authority. Matthew 16:19 records the words of Jesus to Peter: "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Now, the modern charismatic church has turned this verse into a battle cry. Believers march into prayer meetings, bind this demon, and loose that blessing, and then wonder why nothing shifts in the natural realm. But notice the structure of the sentence. Jesus did not say, "Bind things on earth, and I will bind them in heaven if you pray loud enough." He said, "What you bind on earth shall be," literally in the Greek, "having already been bound in heaven."
The Amplified Bible captures it: "Whatever you bind on earth shall be what is already bound in heaven. And whatever you loose on earth shall be what is already loosed in heaven." Do you see the staggering implication? You are not binding demons to get heaven's attention. You are enforcing on earth what heaven has already decreed.
The binding happened at Calvary. The loosing happened at the empty tomb. Your role is not to convince God to act. Your role is to stand as the legal representative of the victor and announce the terms of an already signed treaty. This is not warfare. This is enforcement. This is not begging. This is decree.
And the moment you understand that difference, your entire prayer life will shift from the beggarly cry of a victim to the authoritative declaration of a son who knows his Father's will has already been done.
The Greek word for "bind" here is *deo*, which means to tie, to fasten, to declare forbidden, to put under legal constraint. It is a legal term, not an emotional one. It is courtroom language, not battlefield language. In the Roman world, when a magistrate issued a binding decree, the matter was settled. It did not depend on the magistrate's feelings or the volume of his voice. It depended on his positional authority under Roman law.
And Jesus is saying to His disciples, "You have been given the authority to announce on earth the decrees that have already been established in the heavenly court." But if you do not know what has been decreed, you cannot enforce it. If you do not know the legal grounds of your authority, you will spend your life begging for what is already yours by blood covenant.
Kenyon wrote that the believer's failure in spiritual warfare is a failure to understand his legal position in Christ. He said, "The church has trained people to fight like slaves when they have been made sons, to plead like beggars when they have been made heirs, to ask for authority when authority has already been freely given."
The devil does not tremble at your volume. He trembles at your knowledge of what the cross accomplished. Because once you know, once you truly know in the depths of your spirit that the enemy has no legal ground under the blood of Jesus, you stop fighting for victory and start reigning in it.
Here is where 90% of believers go wrong. They see a demonic attack, a sickness, a financial collapse, an oppressive spirit in their home, and they immediately start shouting at the devil. They bind and rebuke and come against, and they do it with great emotion and zero understanding of the legal transaction that took place at Calvary. So the devil just sits back and waits for them to get tired, because he knows something they do not. He knows that authority is not granted to those who scream the loudest, but to those who know their legal standing.
Picture a courtroom. A judge presides. A criminal defendant stands before him. The evidence has been presented. The verdict has been rendered: Guilty. The gavel falls. The sentence is pronounced. Now imagine someone rushes into that courtroom after the trial is over and starts yelling at the defendant, "I bind you! I rebuke you! I come against you!" The defendant looks at them confused. The judge looks at them puzzled, because the case is closed. The sentence has been passed. The only thing left is enforcement. The bailiff does not need to reargue the case. He does not need to beg the judge to decide. He simply walks over, takes the convicted man by the arm, and leads him where the sentence demands. That is enforcement. That is the picture of spiritual authority.
The devil was judged at Calvary. The verdict was rendered when Jesus said, "It is finished." The sentence was executed when He rose from the dead, "leading captivity captive, and spoiling every principality of legal authority."
Ephesians 1:20-21 tells us that God "raised Christ from the dead, and seated him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come." And then Ephesians 2:6 adds the crushing blow to every demonic force: "and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus."
You are not under the devil. You are seated above him. Not "will be seated," are seated right now. This moment, whether you feel it or not, whether you see it or not, your legal position in the court of heaven is settled.
So when you stand in your living room and bind a spirit of fear, you are not begging God to remove it. You are announcing to that spirit that it has no legal right to operate in the life of a child of God who is seated with Christ in heavenly places. You are not asking Jesus to win. You are reminding the defeated enemy that Jesus already won. And you are the enforcement officer of that victory.
That is why Jesus said in Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." The word "power" in the first part of that verse is the Greek word *exousia*, which means delegated authority, legal right, jurisdiction. The word "power" in the phrase "all the power of the enemy" is *dunamis*, which means force, strength, ability.
Do you see the distinction? Jesus gave you legal authority over the enemy's raw power. A police officer does not need to be stronger than a criminal to arrest him. He needs a badge. He needs the legal authority of the government backing him. And you have the authority of the throne of God, the blood of the Lamb, and the name that is above every name.
But here is the second mistake most believers make. They try to exercise authority they have never legally received. They bind demons while living in willful sin. They rebuke the enemy while harboring unforgiveness, bitterness, and rebellion in their hearts. They claim the victory of the cross while refusing to walk in the resurrection life that the cross purchased. And then they wonder why the devil does not flee.
James 4:7 is explicit: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Notice the order. Submission comes before resistance. You cannot resist what you are not submitted under. If you are not under God's authority, you have no authority over the enemy. The devil does not flee from volume. He flees from the submitted, blood-washed, righteousness-walking child of God who knows who he is in Christ.
Imagine a king who issues a decree. He hands that decree to his ambassador and sends him to a distant land. The ambassador arrives and presents the king's seal. The decree is read. It carries the full weight of the king's authority. But suppose that ambassador, on his way to deliver the message, stops to commit treason. He aligns himself with the king's enemies. He breaks the king's law. And then he arrives at the distant land, holds up the decree, and expects it to be honored. What happens? The people laugh. They say, "You carry the king's seal, but you do not walk in the king's character. You bear the king's message, but you live in rebellion. Why should we honor a decree delivered by a traitor?"
This is the picture of a believer trying to exercise spiritual authority while living in compromise. The blood of Jesus gives you the legal right. But your daily walk determines whether that right is enforceable in the moment. The devil does not fear your words. He fears the word of God spoken by someone whose life aligns with that word. He does not flee from religious theater. He flees from genuine righteousness, from believers who know they have been made the righteousness of God in Christ and who walk accordingly.
Kenyon taught that the greatest weapon a believer possesses is not the volume of his rebuke, but the confidence of his position. He said, "The believer who knows he is seated with Christ in heavenly places does not panic when the enemy attacks. He does not run to God begging for deliverance. He stands in the authority already given, speaks the word already settled, and watches the enemy retreat because the enemy knows he is operating outside his legal jurisdiction." The devil has no right to torment the one who stands under the blood. And the one who knows that does not need to shout. He can whisper, "It is written," and demons scatter.
You may be asking, "If the victory is already won, why does the enemy still attack? If Satan is defeated, why do believers still suffer oppression?" This is the question that has confused the church for generations. And the answer lies in understanding the difference between legal standing and practical enforcement. Legally, the devil has no claim on you. Positionally, you are seated above him. But practically, the enemy will continue to operate wherever he is allowed. He is a defeated foe, but he is not yet bound in the lake of fire.
Revelation 12:12 says, "He knows his time is short and therefore comes down with great wrath." He "prowls like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour." Notice the word "may." He does not devour everyone. He devours those who allow him to. He devours those who do not know their authority. He devours those who live as victims instead of victors.
Think of it this way. When a criminal is convicted and sentenced, but the sentence has not yet been fully executed, that criminal is in a strange space. The verdict is rendered. The judgment is set. But until the bailiff physically removes him, he may still cause trouble. He has no legal right to be free. But if no one enforces the sentence, he remains at large. This is the devil's position. He was judged at the cross. His sentence was announced in the resurrection. But the final execution of that sentence waits until the return of Christ. In the meantime, he operates as an outlaw, and the church is called to enforce the sentence wherever he trespasses on covenant ground.
That enforcement happens when believers stand in their legal authority, declare the terms of the blood covenant, and command the enemy to leave. Not beg him. Command him. Not ask God to make him go. Announce to him that he must go because the blood says so.
Here are the words you need to declare when the enemy attacks, not in desperation, not in fear, but in the calm assurance of one who knows the case is already settled. Say this aloud: "By the blood of Jesus, I have been redeemed out of the hand of the enemy. I have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God's dear Son. The blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel. It speaks my acquittal. It speaks my righteousness. It speaks my authority. Satan, you have no legal claim on my life, my health, my family, or my future. The cross has stripped you of authority. The resurrection has sealed your defeat. I stand in the name of Jesus under the covering of His blood and I command you to leave. It is written. It is finished. I am free."
Do you see the difference between that declaration and the panicked rebuking most believers engage in? One is rooted in legal certainty. The other is rooted in desperation. One is the voice of a son enforcing the Father's will. The other is the cry of a slave hoping the master might show mercy. The devil does not respond to begging. He responds to the blood. He responds to believers who know what the blood purchased and who stand on that purchase without wavering.
But the enemy will resist this revelation with everything he has. Because once the church understands that binding and loosing is not about begging but about enforcing, once believers grasp that they are not trying to gain victory but are learning to walk in it, the entire spiritual climate shifts. Satan's primary weapon is not power. It is deception. He cannot take your authority, but he can convince you that you never had it. He cannot nullify the blood, but he can persuade you to ignore it. He cannot defeat the word of God, but he can get you to stop speaking it. And the moment you stop declaring the truth, the moment you stop standing on your legal ground, the moment you start begging instead of decreeing, you have handed the devil more ground than he could ever take by force.
Revelation 12:11 gives us the picture of overcoming believers: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they loved not their lives unto the death." Three elements: the blood, the word of their testimony, and the refusal to compromise even unto death. Not one of these three is optional. The blood provides the legal foundation. The word of your testimony is your confession, your declaration, your refusal to agree with the enemy's narrative. And the willingness to lay down your life is the proof that you trust God more than you fear the devil. When these three come together in a believer's life, hell has no answer. The enemy retreats not because you shouted, but because you stood. Not because you begged, but because you believed. Not because you fought harder, but because you rested in a finished work.
So stop binding demons the wrong way. Stop shouting at an enemy who only responds to legal authority. Stop begging God to do what He has already done. Start learning the language of the courtroom. Start declaring the terms of the covenant. Start standing in the authority that was purchased for you with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. The gavel has fallen. The verdict is in. You are justified. You are sanctified. You are seated with Christ in heavenly places. And every demon in hell knows it. The only question is, do you?
And yet, this is only the beginning. Because even as you learn to enforce the victory of the cross, there remains a dimension of spiritual authority that most believers never touch. It is the realm where words become creative forces. Where the spoken confession of a believer does not merely bind the enemy, but actually shapes reality according to the will of God. It is the place where faith moves from defense to offense, from resisting the devil to establishing the kingdom. Without it, even the strongest binding and loosing remains incomplete. That is what we will uncover.

First, binding and loosing is not about convincing God to act, but about enforcing on earth what has already been decreed in heaven. The victory was won at Calvary. Your authority flows from the finished work of Christ, not from the volume of your prayers.

Third, you cannot exercise authority over the enemy while living in rebellion against God. Submission to God must come before resistance to the devil. Your daily walk determines whether your legal rights are practically enforceable in the moment of attack.
Fourth, the spoken word is the enforcement mechanism of spiritual authority. Declare the blood. Declare your position in Christ. Declare the defeat of the enemy, not in desperation, but in the calm confidence of one who knows the case is already closed.
And finally, the devil's greatest weapon is not power, but deception. He cannot take your authority, but he can convince you that you never had it. Stand in the truth, speak the truth, walk in the truth, and watch every lie of the enemy crumble under the weight of the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.
You are not a victim hoping for rescue. You are a son enforcing the will of your Father. Now rise and walk in the authority that is already yours.
