What is going on, Salt Strong Nation? Welcome to the beach. I'm out here today, and we are working on an incredible course for you guys. But I wanted to go over something that's going to really help you catch a lot more fish. It's probably the easiest way to catch fish on the beach, and that's just throwing a simple lure, just like this. This one here is a spoon, and it's a Clark spoon; it's a Diamond Jig. One of my favorite lures to throw at the beach, just because it casts incredibly well. You can throw it far; you can cut through wind, and the daggone thing just catches every species that swims in the surf. Anything that's aggressive, especially the toothy ones, they're going to be chasing this thing super fast. So anytime you're using this lure, I'm going to recommend that you retrieve it at a super duper fast rate, because you want to make sure that these fish are fired up on it. They're gonna chase it; they're gonna try to eat it from behind, which is really cool because this does have a treble hook, just a single treble on the back, which is a little different than what, like, a lot of people throw. Like, you know, I've seen a lot of people throw Gotcha plugs, which is great; it's a good lure; I'm not gonna bash it or anything. But when we're talking about beach fishing, this is definitely the way to go, just because you can cast it a heck of a lot better than you can throw Gotcha plugs or the bubble rigs. Which, again, those are really good baits and lures to throw if you're fishing for these species that you find along the beach. But if you're trying to target them from the sand, something like this is just incredible.
So while we were filming this course, we even got an opportunity to crush some fish using this lure. It was kind of a rare opportunity, but we want to show you some of that really cool footage right now. Oh oh, got him, got him, got him! What is it? Oh, I think it's Bonita! Are you kidding me? Oh, he's going nuts, dude! This is why you got to keep your eyes peeled. We're walking down the beach discussing this content and, uh, why it sees a lot, a few fish, and we throw at them, and I think we got a Bonita. I'm not even sure, honestly; I can't tell. He is going crazy; they fired up on it, right? Oh, it is a Bonita! How cool is that? Well, we, we say Bonita, but, uh, this is actually a false albacore. Really cool fish, epic! That is cool. Here, I'll get that jig out. Wow, what a cool fish, so beautiful! They're so fun to catch. We're out here looking for Spanish, but keep your eyes peeled; you never know when you're gonna have an opportunity. He's, uh, he's fired up, ready to go. All right, we're gonna get him back. Thank you, buddy! That was so much fun. See you there. He goes. That was so cool; that was awesome.
When I'm fishing a Diamond Jig for Spanish mackerel, Bonita, bluefish, I'm retrieving it so fast. These fish, they're fast swimmers; they're moving in the water at extremely high rates of speed, and you want something that really catches their attention. And these shiny Diamond Jigs go by them so fast, it fires them up, and they want to chase it down and eat it. So a really quick retrieve is always how I start the day. If I'm not getting bites, you can change it up, but I'd say 90% of the time, this is how you're going to catch these fish. Oh gosh, they're so fast! Oh, did you see that? Oh, almost eaten on the beach! Are you kidding me? Yeah, they're blowing up all areas, areas! Got him, got him, got him, got him! Oh my goodness! Oh, this is a—look at him running, dude! Look at him running! Oh, they're so fast; they're such a fast fish; so much fun! Look at that! Wow! They immediately can put so much slack in your line by darting in. Gosh, yeah, I think he's bigger. Wow, I, I'm, I'm just, I'm blown away, man! This is so intense! A little bit bigger! Wow! Look at that! That's our second Bonita or false albacore, whatever you want to call them. Wow, little toonie, such a cool fish! So we got fish right here; they just busted the beach! Where they go? There they are! You know? Yep! Yeah! Yes! There you go! Gosh! Ah, I see him! There he is! Got him, got him! That's so cool; that's so cool! Oh my goodness! Wow! He's got followers! [Laughter]
So that's just a small snippet of what we go over in the course. We go into depth on like how you're gonna get those opportunities, how you're gonna capitalize the best on that. We, we even go—like we're set rig fishing right now; we're finishing up the course—we go into how to read these conditions. We got rough conditions; we go into how to handle these rough conditions, the gear you need, the baits you need, the tactics you need. Like we've got drone footage showing you exactly the structures that we fish and how we approach that. We, we've got drone footage of a bait hitting the water exactly where I fish.
