Most people are using their second brain wrong, and they probably don't even know it. I've built second brain systems for multi-million dollar companies and have over 40,000 people learning my methods right now. And I see a pattern people keep getting wrong both in the companies and on their own.
First, I think it's important to understand what a second brain is. The idea is that anytime you talk to your AI, it remembers past work that you've done, or you can throw research papers and notes into it and it throws it into this memory base so you always have access to it.
You see, most second brains that you're seeing out there are based on theories around graph theory. Actually, you have a graph made of vertices and edges. And we call them nodes or edges as well. All the dots are nodes, all the lines are edges. Those even mean? Why do they connect that way? What tells the computer to do that?
Nodes, let's consider them as nouns. Person, a place, a team. And the edges are verbs. And the relationship between nouns or the things that are being done. Running, getting, consuming. Standing that, let's imagine you have a company and you have a bunch of teams. Each team becomes a node and each relationship between the team becomes an edge. Product team node talks edge to the data team node. And each team might have workflows. A workflow could be named as collecting questions from a Slack channel. If I was to say the product team runs Slack questions workflow, which consumes the ticket information and produces answers, each of these nouns and verbs can be mapped to a set of files.
Most second brains would just map the whole sentence all at once to a bunch of random files. But good second brains break those down individually. You go into your product team, you'll have markdown files that describe processes, ideas, jobs, concepts. You have the markdown files, you have descriptions about where that data, processes, and ideas connect to everywhere else. This process enough times, and you'll have a giant graph of nodes and edges that describe how your company works, who they are, what they're doing, and essentially acts as a second brain or a place of memory for the AI to navigate.
Want to understand how to structure folders, files, and data better? I have hours of free lectures, literally free, that you can come and check out. 40,000 people willing to work with you to understand how to build these things as well. So, the link is in the bio, go check it out. And until next time, everyone, happy learning.
