Coach: You visiting from Scotland as well?
Yes, I'm I'm.
How's your time in America been so far?
Amazing. Beautiful people. Beautiful shotties, beautiful everything. It's amazing.
Did you come by yourself or with a bunch of people?
Yeah, with my family.
Yeah.
So, my mom and dad, my 16 cousins, and my five brothers. Amazing.
Find out that America has free refills.
[laughter]
It's a pub in the supermarket.
Say it again. I don't think they heard you.
It's a pub in the supermarket.
Where are we? Where are we?
Thanks so much.
You're welcome.
I'm in America. When they say everything in America is big, I understand it. Why the hell is this quesadilla the size of my head? Somebody explain to me why this piece of food is the size of my head, and I've got three of them.
[laughter]
It's just like the movies, a big yellow bus.
Then somebody asked me how I don't how I have an iPhone. They asked me how I have an iPhone.
[music]
In 2026.
For a bus at the end [singing] of the night [music] on the street.
They run out of beer. That's my only complaint.
Been drinking since.
What time did I get up this morning? 1:00 in the morning I got up.
That's when some fans began heading to the airport, bound for the US, bound for the World Cup. The pilot telling us when the beer ran out, he switched to wine.
So, I'm going to go going to go and have a nice whiskey at my digs, and then I'm going to go and hit the town. I'm going to find Cheers.
We're going to come here. We're going to drink your beer. We're going to put some money in the economy, and we're going to have a right good time while we're doing it.
They're running out of beer, and and the the local distributors are just doing what they can to to get them in, and I know a lot of them got shipments in, and uh yeah, it seems like the Scottish pride themselves in uh having places like just drinking them dry.
Beyond the stadiums, international fans are embarking on hilarious side quests across everyday America. On social media, European visitors are going viral for treating local neighborhoods like theme parks. A German tourist gained over 600,000 followers documenting his road trip through the South giving Waffle House a perfect 10 out of 10 score. So, I just came back to the bar after a weekend away from Boston. I've only seen a couple of games in the city, but I hear everybody's running out of beer. I hear all the bars are running out of beer. So, let's see how we survive the night. Hope we keep the beer in stock.
I need to I need to save up for a liver transplant after this trip. And the guys, they just they're just jealous that they can't roll their Rs. But honestly, it's not about the money we spend, it's about the fun we generate. And what we do is very easy because we have not qualified for the World Cup for 28 years. So, quite simply, the budget I spend, I divide it by 28, and that's that's how we motivate being here.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
And I get kicked off the Mayflower for being a bit handsy. She was English, not She was English, not Irish.
Yeah, absolutely.
Cuz we need to sell our houses and cars and probably children as well.
absolutely.
to to afford it. But it's all worth it. It's all worth it. We're so happy to be here.
This is my official request to the Tartan Army. I want to come party with you guys in Miami. My wife and I want to come and we want to bring our friends, and I'm bringing my kilt. Yeah!
[screaming]
Go Scotland!
LET'S GO SCOTLAND, THANK YOU ON THE SIDE.
[cheering]
Well, I just hear Scottish stereotypes. Um that one that all we do is drink. It's just It's just so ridiculous.
Could you say that I'm not even in Boston because all the Scots drink it?
I'M NOT SURPRISED. I'M NOT [ __ ] SURPRISED. THAT'S THEY SHOULD. I SAY [ __ ] SHOULD. OH, FLOWER of Scotland.
Message for the Scottish fans that have taken over Boston the last few days.
Yeah, I want to say thank you. You guys have really brought a new life to the city. You've drank a lot of our beer. We need some new shipments, but I love it. It's fun. I feel like it's like the culture that Boston wants and needs. I'm having a good time.
Americans live like the main character. Whereas Brits live like something bad is going to happen. In America, people are loud, outgoing. Americans wake up and think, "Yeah, today is going to be a good day. I'm going to get after it." People in the UK wake up miserable, defeated, and grumpy, craving tea bags. It's completely different. In America, people go and get after exactly what they want. They're loud. They talk about what they're doing. They support each other. In the UK, there is no support. If you tell someone a good idea, they will tell you it's a bad idea, and they will not support you. The only time they'll support you is if you make it. It's completely different. It feels like when I went to America, I experienced real life. It feels like the color appeared again. Whereas in the UK, yeah, it might be sunny right now, but the people don't act like it's sunny ever. Constant misery.
These are grits. You got to put hella sugar on your grits.
Excuse me, sir.
Yep.
Are you going to the game today?
Yep.
Have you ever been to Waffle House before?
Waffle House?
Yes.
No.
Can I take you to eat with me before the game?
Is it close?
It's It's It's literally right there.
You paying?
I'm paying.
Let's go.
Let's go. What's your name?
Antonio.
I'm going to see what he thinks about an American staple in the city of Atlanta.
Viva España.
I usually go All-Star special.
I call you Brian.
Yes, Kobe.
And some grits. You have grits before?
Absolutely not. And we will do a one All-Star, one bacon, egg, cheese biscuit.
When you think of America and food, what comes to mind for you?
Beef.
These are grits. You got to put hella sugar on your grits. And when they're cooked right, you can eat it with a fork. Got to get the butter in there.
Healthy.
Not healthy. This is not healthy, but it's good. The butter in there. And honestly, a little bit more sugar. Cheers. You like it?
That's good.
Waffle. Always got to put butter on the waffle. A lot of syrup. Cheers. Cheers. You like it?
Mhm.
All right, so what do you think?
I'm definitely going back.
You got a hat?
America's place.
Hey, they love it here. As an American, I have questions for the Tartan Army. Listen up. First, is the group that's here now the group that got here when this all started? Like, did you all just come over on like 17 planes, land in Boston, and stay there, or is it just like a constant coming and going of Scots from Scotland to the USA, USA back to Scotland? Is this? Is it all different people? Are we getting a constant influx of new stuff? Second, if it is the same group of people that's been here since the beginning, I want to know what you do for a living in Scotland that you could afford to take a month off of work to come over here, spend a ton of money on beer, and beer, and enjoy sports. I want to know what it is you did that you could afford to do that. My next question is, when you do leave, first of all, we don't want you to, but when you do leave, could you please leave behind at least a shred of the joy that you seem to have brought with you? Because if there's anything this country needs right now, it needs a shred of joy. And this is my final question, and it's more of a selfish one more than anything. When you do leave, what are the chances one or two of us could come back with you and just stay in Scotland?
I have to say this about the World Cup. America has absolutely smashed it. Before this tournament, you had people online saying it's going to be a terrible World Cup. America doesn't like football. Nobody's going to travel. We're not going to feel welcomed. And it's been quite the opposite. You've got fans from all corners of the globe. We've got packed world-class stadiums, by the way. Friendly people. Everybody you meet is just stopping you and talking about football and your experiences. I think we can all agree that America has done an absolutely fantastic job of hosting this World Cup so far. I genuinely feel a lot of people's opinions on America will now change after this World Cup.
So, I feel very sad because it is our last night in Texas tonight. We are in a motel. I just want to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone in this great state.
The Scottish fans, they [ __ ] did it. They they drank all the beer in Boston, you guys. I was joking that they were going to do it and they [ __ ] did it. I mean, I think there was like Budweiser left over, but let's let's be fair. That's There's no good beer. There's no good beer. So, uh Americans cannot keep Can they keep up with the sesh? Um the Scots They set a goal for themselves and they achieved it. That's so much drinking. That is. And you know, like the all the bars and everything, they probably ordered more cuz they're like, "Oh, there's a lot of Scottish people coming." And they didn't order enough. And it's not like Boston is not a light drinking place. It's not like Utah. It's got Irish people in it, Irish Boston people. So, they already drank a lot. So, holy [ __ ] Holy holy [ __ ] That was an epic sesh, you guys.
[snorts]
Congratulations.
For the Scottish fans that have taken over Boston the last few days.
Yeah, I want to say thank you. You guys have really brought a new life to the city. You've drank a lot of our beer. We need some new shipments, but I love it. It's fun. I feel like it's like the culture that Boston wants and needs. I'm having a good time.
I've just discovered a new hazard for Kilwinning Scotsman in New York City.
[laughter] [music]
I [music] AM WAITING FOR a bus at the end [singing] of the night on the street [music] lamp.
Welcome to day one in Boston. Woohoo!
You need to leave.
Okay, we made it to Central.
Getting the first Dunkin of the trip. You got to ask him for an extra pump of vanilla. That's the myth.
Scotland no party.
Okay, I've not updated in a life in a bit, but got some filming done at Phoenix Landing. Never did a capoeira. Going to post my first interview of the trip. Absolutely buzzing. We're heading to Harvard now because we realized we're around the corner, so we're like, "May as well go while we're here."
Here's Big John. Big John H.
Hey, this is a big rich town.
Check out this weather, you team, eh? I thought it was Monday's.
I think it's Tuesday.
Nah, it's a Friday.
No, it's Thursday.
Have we [ __ ] it?
Oh, [ __ ] Run, run, run, run, run. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Oh, [ __ ] We're locked in. Wait till it. Wait till it. Almost get stuck.
I'm Scottish and I'm in Boston right now. I want to let all Americans know that we're not cavemen. For some reason, everyone thinks that we live like 20 years in the past. Don't know if it's the kilts, but I was on a train yesterday and somebody asked me how I don't how I have an iPhone. [music] They asked me how I have an iPhone in 2026. Anyway, everyone's been so nice. We love Boston. Loving our time here in America and uh one in Scotland.
Well, I'm feeling very sad because it is our last night in Texas tonight. We are [music] in a motel. I just want to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone in this great state. [music] The hospitality from everyone from the start to finish.
[music]
I'm gone away. I'm gone away. I'm gone away. I'm [music] gone away. And the sun [music] going to shine on a brand new day.
[music] [music]
Must be somewhere welcoming me the fold.
[music]
Blue with flowers as much as I can [music] afford. I'm going away.
[music]
I'm going away. I'm going away.
[music]
And the sun going shine on [music] a brand new day for me. A brand new [music] day for love. Brand new day for me. Brand new [music] day for love. Yeah, I'm going [music] to walk.
