A narcissist will abandon anyone, no matter how close, if the relationship threatens their delusion of being blameless. Accountability is their breaking point.
The moment someone challenges their version of events, asks for an apology, or holds up a mirror to their abusive behavior, the narcissist will choose their ego over the relationship every single time. This includes their spouse, sibling, parent, even their own children. It does not matter. Nothing is more important to a narcissist than control over the narrative. And in that narrative, they must always be the hero, the misunderstood victim, or the self-sacrificing martyr.
Anyone who dares to tell the truth, anyone who won't play along becomes a threat that must be eliminated. So they discard, they abandoned, and they smear. You won't just be cut off. You'll be vilified to anyone and everyone who will listen.
But please don't mistake their abandonment as your loss. It's not your loss. It's proof that your truth held more power than their lies. And that is something they will never forgive you for because deep down they know you saw them for exactly who and what they are.
