The greatest NFL trade deadline of our lifetimes. It's time to break down every single move that happened today. Uh, a whirlwind. Hayden, why do you think the NFL has kind of turned into an NBAification of a day like this?
>> Probably just younger GMs is is a good way to do it and then more understanding of cap space and windows to win. And I think players getting more frustrated about their situations. So, I think all of that plays into but I think a lot of it's just well the other leagues are doing it. The GMs grew up playing Madden and 15 years ago, uh, the GMs weren't playing Madden.
>> Yeah. And look, no one is doing what the Jets are doing in the NFL, and I'm excited to see how that one plays out. I think the other part of it is in 2025, there isn't one elite team or two elite teams. There are a lot of contenders that have a chance for it, and a lot of those teams typically don't have chances to do it. So, they want to maximize this window.
All right, we're going to have two episodes tonight. This first one is just dedicated to the moves, the big time moves that were made today. And then we'll have a later stats versus film on the channel about three hours after this one, going through team by team of actually what's going on, you know, this past weekend and on an NFL field. All right, we're going to do this in a certain order. The first one is the Indianapolis Colts. All right, they're 7-2 right now. A wideopen season like I just said, and they just sent first round picks in 2026 and 2027 for cornerback Sauce Gardner. Your thoughts?
>> I think this is a boom bust decision for the Colts that will ultimately just end up how good is Sauce Gardner in the playoffs. They have a 92% chance of making the playoffs according to the Athletic. They have a 9% chance of actually winning the Super Bowl. This is their window to win. Daniel Jones not under contract uh in the future. When he is under contract, it'll be very expensive. Uh their defense right now last week was uh starting a former seventh rounder. They've been kind of exposed in the secondary, but Leatu Latu up front is kind of taking the next step. So, the defense is already 10th in EPA and on offense, they're first uh in EPA. So, this is a chance for them to actually make a real Super Bowl run here. And for that, I applaud them for the move. Does it come with a lot of risk? It really does. has like two first round picks plus all of this money. It's like $25 million, $25 million, then $20 million for Sas Garner. That's a lot. But you're the Indianapolis Colts. How often do you have a legit 10% chance of winning the Super Bowl? That doesn't happen too often, and that's probably going to be more difficult to do once Daniel Jones is making upwards of $50 million in the future. So, with that, you're actually getting a premier player at a position that does matter. It comes with a lot of risk, but I do understand it for Indianapolis.
The Jets just made Sauce Gardner the highest paid quarterback in the NFL when they made that deal four months ago. And according to Over the Cap, I mean, it was structured in a different way in terms of the extension with minimal signing bonuses up front with future op option bonuses in 2026 and 2027. Again, this only leaves around like $20 million in dead cap for the Jets over the next two seasons. Uh Hayden, I kind of wonder if this kind of a deal was on potentially the Jets' radar when they made it because we don't see deals structured like this really ever.
>> Yeah, it was a very shrewd move uh for the Jets here because a lot of the money is typically in those prrated bonuses, but with uh the option bonuses that just goes to the next team. So, the Colts are going to be inheriting those and then like you said, the Jets don't really have much money on the books uh for this point moving forward. they've already paid him some of the bonus money and the rest of it's going to go to Indianapolis. So, I thought that was a pretty smart move on just how they were structuring this gave him a lot of options and I'm guessing if you ask the Jets uh when they were signing him they probably understood that this team was going to be pretty bad that Sasarners were going to be really valuable. So, make sure you to uh on a bad team make sure these contracts are kind of set up like the one for Sasarnner did. So, I think in general for this move I would grade for the Jets just on this move. This is an A+. you're getting back multiple starters uh down the future with first round picks. Adai Mitchell is a nice throwin because they need some wide receivers there. Uh at least has some theoretical upside and like you said contractually it really didn't matter for the Jets at all.
>> Let's put a pin in the Jets side of that conversation. I'll actually give the Colts a B+ for this move. In my brain, I instantly gave it a C, but then I kind of zoomed out and thought, okay, just a couple weeks ago, we called the Indianapolis Colts actual contenders to possibly feature in the Super Bowl just based on where the AFC is >> at this point and how they have looked on both sides of the ball. Now, they're coming off a loss and so that's more difficult to say at this point and the worst performance of their season. And if this doesn't work out, then sending two picks in the direction for Sauce Gardner looks reckless. I think if it does work then it's just aggressive y right you know corners of soft guarder ability do not are not available in for agency and you either have to trade for them or you have to draft them and you know the Colts tried to sign Jvarious Ward and he got injured they tried to draft Justin Wall-E and Juju Brent and these other guys and that has not worked out so you have to make a move like this and Sgardner while you know he's not the number one player at his position. We'll go, you know, between Patrick Certan or Dererick Stingley or those types, he's still extremely good and especially against like biggerbodied ex number one wide receivers. Like just watch what he did against Ted McMillan a couple weeks ago. Just pins him along the sideline, fights at the catch point, and I know NFL Plus even tweeted out that Sasker has not allowed more than two receptions to a single receiver in a game this season. He has forced a tight window on 52% of his targets, the highest rate of any player targeted at least 20 times in coverage this season. But overall, what you can do and what this allows Lou Andarumo to do is just say, "Hey sauce, go on the opposing team's number one pass catcher and then I'm going to do some really cool stuff with the other 10 defensive players on the field." And that just adds such a different dynamic where on offense, the Colts have multiple dynamics. They have multiple explosive players now. They have like a key figure head on the defensive side of the ball along with DeForest Buckner up front. And again, that's just going to allow Uncle Lou to do some really cool out there.
>> Yeah, Saus is a fascinating guy to cover the last couple years because like you said, I think this has been one of the good years for Sauce Gardner. Uh the Ted Rowan McMillan game was really good. George Pickkins on all but one play, that was a really good game for Sgard. Same thing with Courtland Sutton. So, it's these big bodied uh ex- wide receivers. He can go isolate against them. What's difficult and I think S's a good example is yeartoear the consistency at a cornerback it's like quarterbacks and safeties good luck trying to predict if it's going to be a good season or a bad season and that's what makes this move extremely risky I think we can pretty much guarantee over the next couple years will be one of like the five best corners but that might be the best corner in one season then the next season while dealing with an injury he's the 20th best corner and really the only thing I care about is this year during the playoff stretch much because they're already going to make the playoffs now. In the future, we'll see if they're going to be as good as they are uh uh currently. So, really, it's just like in the four game window from the wild card around to the Super Bowl if they get there, how good is Sgard and right now, I think he's playing pretty well.
>> Zack Kefir also had a note that Alec Pierce during his time at Cincinnati wanted to go opposite the best cornerback on the team. So, he and Sgardner face off in one- on- ones every single day. They're buddies. So, you know, there's some acclamation there. And the other part of this is while the Colts have spent, you know, a first round pick, top five pick on Anthony Richardson previously, uh, that did not go well. And now, if there were any questions, they will just move forward with Daniel Jones uh, after the season as the starting quarterback. They have no first round ammunition to get someone else. So, that contract is going to be massive, and I'm sure Daniel Jones's uh, representation is thrilled about that because, you know, they have all the leverage in this situation. Uh, this Colt team is just very fun. You know, again, I know they're coming off a loss here against the Pittsburgh Steelers. We'll talk about that in the other episode of Stats Versus Film tonight, but they have a, you know, championship contending AFC championship contending team when it's all in the rhythm and the flow. And again, this is the only way that you can really add someone like Sausner who turns into Ahmad when uh let's say he has some of those lesser seasons.
>> Yeah. Uh for Jets fans, could you give the bull case for Brad Nai Mitchell real quick? Let's talk about the Jets here after another one of the big trades because uh the Jets are in a fire sale and they allowed the Dallas Cowboys to trade a 2026 second and a 2027 first round pick to the Jets for defensive tackle Quinton Williams. There is a caveat to this that the Jets get the higher of the two picks in the first round in 2027, whether that be the Dallas Cowboys firstrounder or the Green Bay Packers firstrounder. So Hayden, we are going to tie this at some point to the Micah Parsons deal. We don't have to do that immediately. But what this does give Jerry Jones is one defensive tackle help because they failed with the Mazy Smith selection who's actually going in the opposite direction here to the Jets. They tried to get Kenny Clark from the Green Bay Packers and that has been really no moving piece for them in terms of one way or the other as a big upgrade. And then they did, you know, sign Odigizua last year to an extension. Uh, but that only takes you so far. So, from my eyes, Jerry Jones loves his star players and now he has one on the defensive side of the ball here with Quinn.
>> Quinn's still an absolute superstar level player. So, they added someone that's actually a needle mover. Uh, unlike I think Kenny Clark, who I think's like a fine enough starter, but he's not like actually really changing the wins and loss column. I think Quinnon Williams does do that. The problem with the Quinn and Williams edition, you already hinted at it. They already have two defensive tackles that are paid for next year. So, I think they'll probably cut Kenny Clark, uh, which is makes the Michael Parsons trade, uh, look even dumber. Uh, so you have OSA and Quinnon Williams for the future, but Quinnon Williams also is going to want a lot of money. So, you're trading for the rights to sign Quinnon Williams to like the highest paid defensive tackle market. This will be for his age 29 season and beyond. What's super frustrating about this deal to me is right now the Dallas Cowboys have a 4% odds of making the playoffs. Like, so forget Super Bowls and making it throughout the playoffs. Making the playoffs, it's at a 4% odd. Remember, you have the entire entire NFC North and then also the NFC West are all well ahead of them in the standings. So Quinnon Williams might help the Cowboys be be able to compete a little bit, but this is only for the future, which is pretty sad because this season the offense is I think fifth in in EPA and they're completely like dead last in almost every single category on defense. So will Quinnon make that better? Yes. But we should only be viewing this trade uh for the 2026 season and beyond. And at that point, he'll be 29 years old and being paid like the highest paid player uh at the position. It it was really fascinating to me when the details came out because at first it said that it was a first round selection, but then that first round selection is in 2027. So, they get Quinnon Williams along with two first round picks now with their own and the Green Bay Packers here in this upcoming draft. You would think that some of those, if not both of those, are uh, you know, spent on the defensive side of the ball because boy oh boy, it's a travesty. Yes. on that side at this moment. I they've given up what 44 and 27 points over the last two weeks. Quinn Williams reunites with his former defensive line coach here in Aaron White Cotton. Um, and like I said, Jerry gets a star defensive player. Let's do a reset of this Michael Parsons deal. Yeah. At this point, right? Because >> is it kind of Michael Parsons for Quinnon Williams, Kenny Clark, and a 2026 first round pick? Is that what we've gotten to here?
>> It's pretty much moving up from the second to the first round. Uh that's like the draft capital exchange that happened. You get uh Quinnon Williams under contract for the next couple years, but at a high rate. So you have like some cap flexibility if you're also you didn't have to pay Quinn uh to Micah Parson. So let's say you saved $50 million in cap space. You moved up from the second round to the first round this year and then you have Quinnon Williams and Kenny Clark. Is that worth it? To me, it's not. It looks terrible. Like let's just be honest here. the whole trade makes no sense. And on top of that, part of the calculus for for me evaluating these two trades is the Cowboys have lost some high-scoring games barely and then they tied the freaking Packers who have Micah Parsons. Micah Parsons probably would have added a win and a half somewhere in there and that that mean that this team could actually have made the playoffs. The difference in in this these trades, the timing of them is probably going to cost the Cowboys a playoff birth, which is really sad because Dak Prescott fully rebounded off of injury last year. Then George Pickkins was an all-in move for this year. He's not under contract long term. He's going to get a bunch of money, I'm assuming, to the Cowboys, but on a really expensive deal, and they're going to be wasting this this offense. I think part of the way we have to uh calculate the trade results here is it's it's week 10 and the Cowboys lost some close games because the defense couldn't get off the field and Michael Parsons would have a uh would have been able to do that. So I think in general just looking back on this trade it's as bad as we thought it would. So I think this is like pretty much if I want to round the whole trade up I would put this as an F.
>> Jerry has like some obsession with defensive tackles and stopping the run. Like I'm not saying that's the only thing that Quinn Williams can do. Obviously, he can get out the passer and get up field, but after trading Micah, not to reiterate this entire thing, it was, oh well, he's not going to help us stop the run, and we were only going to train him to teams that we would get a runing defensive tackle back. Uh, you also want a guy who can get you off the field. Yes. Like in pure passing situations, and Michael Parsons has already done this with the Green Bay Packers uh multiple times this season. So, we'll see. We'll see what happens with them moving forward. All right, let's talk about the New York Jets here because you do not see this NBA style, this NBA type of tear down in the NFL. So, they've already acquired first round picks in 2026 and 2027.
>> Does this mean they what they have five first round picks over the next two seasons? Plus, Adnai Mitchell, who definitely has his flaws, but the Jets, I would say non-arguably, had the worst wide receiver room in the NFL behind Garrett Wilson out there. When you have one win, it's very clear, Hayden, that every player has their price. And for this Jets team, it is all about getting the quarterback that they want because things turn around quickly in the NFL when you get the right quarterback. While you know they are giving away pieces that were previously on top five defenses in S Gardner and Quinnon Williams here. Uh if you get the quarterback then you already have two offensive tackles in place. You have Garrett Wilson and maybe Bruce Hall who they did not move. Albeit he does not want to be there.
>> So there's more layers to this. But what are you saying here for Jets fans who are going to make up 95% of audience for our mock drafts this offseason?
>> I love our Jets fans right now. this was the moves that that they had to make. You have to reset. You have to find the quarterback. I think that all these trades are kind of just a reflection of how important quarterbacks are because they hit on a lot of their first round picks over the last couple years, but they did not on the quarterback and it didn't matter whatsoever. So, it will all be a race for Fernando Mendoza uh and if they can beat uh the Saints at the at the top of the Tankathon uh draft board right now. uh if they're going to have a a Lenora Sers at quarterback, if they're gonna have to find somebody. Is it is it Kyler Murray in a trade? Who who knows what it's going to be? But they'll finally be able to take a real risk and a real upside shot at quarterback over the next couple years and have other players uh to end up, you know, or other draft picks to find a defense. But like you said, you got an offensive line, you got Garrett Wilson, that's better than a lot of rookie quarterbacks or Kyler Murray, you name it, will have. So, at least they kept the offense around. I would sell the defense like they did. They have a bunch of uh cap space in a couple years as well. So, um I'll be curious to see if it's going to be the head coach or it's going to be a new head coach to kind of um steer the ship here. But like you said, this is a crazy NBA kind of thunder related uh draft class that they're going to have for the next couple years here.
>> The Jets had three first round picks in 2022. They did select S Garner, Garrett Wilson, and Germaine Johnson. Uh Germaine's name was also mentioned as a possible trade today for around a second round selection. He is still on the roster at this point. Uh look, Dane Burger posted this and it immediately came to my mind too. There are three teams at this point, four teams at this point, sorry, that have multiple first rounders in the 2026 NFL draft. Obviously, the Jets, then it's the Cleveland Browns who have theirs, plus the Jacksonville Jaguars. You have the Rams who have their own plus right now I think the 12th overall selection with the Atlanta Falcons and then the Dallas Cowboys who we just mentioned who have theirs and the Groovy Packers. Three of those teams could be taking quarterbacks early. The Jets and the Browns and again I'll throw in the Rams because of the entire conversation that we got the all offseason from the contract dispute. Let's not forget that with Matthew Styford at the NFL combine and then obviously missing all of training camp with his back injury, especially if the Rams go on and do it all with they have the roster to do and win the Super Bowl. That's a perfect time for Matthew Styver to walk away from this. From my eyes though, competing with the Browns for potentially trading up for the number one overall selection if like the Tennessee Titans get it was probably a massive goal here for the Jets to acquire as many picks as possible. Uh, I understand that like the Jaguars pick is probably going to be better than the Indianapolis Colts one, but the Jets also might have a better pick than the Cleveland Browns on top of it. Now, that might go out the door again if the New Orleans Saints have the number one over overall selection. These are all iterations of the worst of the worst teams that we are talking about in the league right now. But again, top down, defense does matter, right? We see it every single week. Defense absolutely matters. But one defense is not sticky as we've even seen with these pieces with sauce and Quinnon Williams on previous top five defenses and they're not even close to that this year. Right.

>> And so this Jets team ownership down has seen that you can have defensive talent and it kind of means nothing if you don't have a quarterback that you can win with. So all these moves and I applaud Muji who I don't know what to think of this dude when he gets on the mic. And then Aaron Glenn, same thing, albeit in the totally opposite direction where he just says whatever is on his mind. Uh, at least at least they have a lot of pick equity, draft capital to make a move that in the hopes of it changing their franchise. And hey, I guess the big question is, is that going to happen in 2026 with this questionable quarterback class? And at the same time, that could happen in 2027 if they want to stay patient for another year. Yeah, I haven't studied the quarterbacks, but I know there's gonna be a couple first rounders. Looks like there might be like three or four um this year. It depends on the quality of it. Also mentioned that the Jets skipped over Jackson Dart in the draft here um as did the Saints as well. So, some of the teams, the Browns as well. Uh the teams that would be looking for quarterbacks have been skipping over other quarterbacks in drafts, too. So, at some point, they got to get into the draft and pick somebody. And then I think the other one is will this will one of these teams end up having Kyler Murray or somebody like that too. So we'll see. There's there's more than one way to acquire a quarterback nowadays. Will they try to do the Sam Darnold Dandel Jones route or will they actually have the first overall pick to take the quarterback that they like? Who knows?
>> As for Adnai Mitchell, uh he absolutely has his falls. Uh you know, he got that one opportunity this season. He made a spectacular catch and then made one of the most boneheaded moves we've seen this season. I think for him he was just never going to see the field as long as Alec Pierce wore a Colts jersey. Y and you know Alec Pierce might get anywhere from 18 to$20 million per year moving forward and the Colts probably should resign him because he's been spectacular so far this year. So uh he is talented and now he should get an opportunity to actually see the field which is big for him. Um on top of it are you surprised that Bree Hall was not moved today? I was just because I don't get the point of kind of keeping him around. They have the franchise tag available to him. They can try to sign him to a multi-year deal. He does not want to be there. And Bree Hall does seem like one of these cats that will do something about it. So, I mean, I tweeted I was mostly joking, but a hamstring tightness could could appear for Bree Hall here. They just didn't get the draft capital that they wanted here, but like what a fourth or fifth round pick to like remove the headache and just refresh. That probably would have been the route that I would have gone to. But at the same time, I understand that teams aren't going to value Bree Hall as like a third rounder. So, this one was I think kind of sad to see. Bree Hall is like visibly tweeting about this like directly after before and after. I don't think this one's going to go away. I think he's going to be pretty frustrated. And if their plan is to slap the franchise tag on him for next year as well, >> then I think that's going to also be a problem. Uh so, I I would have just got rid of the problem. You're not winning in 2026 anyways, even if you do franchise tag him. Um, I would have rather taken the draft pick and just played for the 2028 version of the team.
>> He was previously tweeting about it, uh, posting a gift from a movie Life from 1999 where the two main characters in Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence uh, are put in jail for life. Okay. And then he also said, uh, going to miss my guys, but happy for them, which the underlying meaning is happy for them. Then they're out of this organization. Yeah. Uh Hayden, since we started hitting record, he has deleted all those tweets.
>> Well, yeah. The good news is we have that means they didn't exist. No one screenshotted them.
>> Uh I'll take the quick alternate approach there. Okay. I would not be stunned if somehow someway they can mend this relationship if Bree Hall gets like the transition tag for $11 million for this reason. Um he's a talented football player, right? And in this case, you would not have to spend one of those first or second round selections on a starting running back for the 2026 season if you're able to keep him on on your roster and have him out there and have him as your lead workhorse because they understand and it's clear to everyone how talented he can be when he is on the field. So maybe that is the goal here. Uh because once you get to like round three, round four, round five territory, there are a lot of hits, right? the Bucky Irvings to Cam Scataboos. Like, we can go on and on and on down that list. There's also twice as many misses from those draft picks, too. So, if this team wants to run the football, which they clearly do, Brie is a talented one. That bridge might be uh unbuildable, unrepable, but I could see that being the future here for Brie this offseason.
>> Transition tag is like pretty rare, so I would guess it would have to be the franchise tag. Transition tag, you like risk having another team sign him. So, we'll see what they do. that is an option, but most of the time it is the franchise tire which is a little bit more expensive. Or like is it somewhere in the middle where he's not James Cook? Is he like Kyron Williams like two for $23 million guaranteed, but that takes two to tango. So bottom line, the Bree Hall story is is it's not over yet. I think there will be some drama. Um Isaiah Davis, I would have him keep him as a backup just because there's there's obvious friction here and I don't see how they're going to be able to mend that as the team is going to lose by a lot of points. Like right now it is it is a very good race between the Titans, the Saints, and the Jets for worse roster right now. The rest of the stretch it is those three teams by themselves, even worse than the Browns and the Dolphins and those those other teams.
>> And on that note, the Jets have only won one game with Quinnon Williams and Sasker playing and now they will not be playing. So they're hoping that all these other teams win one more game, you know, >> and then that puts them at the number one overall selection. But yeah, there are multiple multiple teams down at the bottom of the barrel.
>> Jets also got Mazy Smith in the trade with the Dallas Cowboys. I know he has a first round label to his name. Uh that is addition by subtraction for Dallas here. He is the smallest playing 340lb defensive tackle that I've ever seen. Just gets moved out the ball every single time. All right, let's have some more fun with some offensive players here. Maybe the trade I am most excited for. The Seattle Seahawks at six-2 continue to add to their roster because once again they know this is their window to win. They trade a fourth and fifth round pick in 2026 for our guy Rashid Shahid who now gets reunited with Clint Kubak who coached him in New Orleans last year. Let's remind you that New Orleans offense through the first three or four weeks of the 2024 season was the most explosive offense in the NFL in terms of downfield passing. He averaged 17 and a half yards per catch with a 17.6 average depth of target. And now he goes to the Seattle Seahawks who have a really promising rookie in Tory Horton and a total dust ball in Cooper Cup. Hayden, to me, he immediately becomes the two wide receiver set player opposite Jackson Smith and Jigba, which is most notable here because the Seahawks only run three wide receiver sets on 37% of snaps. So, this is just the perfect outcome, I think, for Rasheed Shahit to land in because we know the Seattle Seahawks offense uses these heavy personnel sets to throw bombs down the field and they're doing it at a ludicrous rate right now. Sam Darnold hasn't missed a downfield pass like the entire year. He's he's been the most efficient. That was pretty much the case last year, too. So, I feel extremely good about what they're getting in terms of the scheme fit. I give this an A minus for Seattle. They have a 90% chance of making the playoffs. They have a 7% chance of winning the Super Bowl according to the simulations over by the Athletic. And he's in the perfect role for him. So, like I you don't even have to kind of think about this one. We've seen this before in multiple ways. I think Rasheed Shahi is better than what his numbers have been. I think that he's like a legit like 1,200 yard receiver on tape that has not had the opportunities for that. He's not going to have a ton of volume just because this offense is going to be balanced and JSN is dominating targets, but he is as good of a secondary receiver as you'll see. So, I think this is a win for him in fantasy. He's been the wide receiver 39 so far. I think this probably puts him like around like the wide receiver 30 rest of season. But if he would have stayed on the Saints with Shuck and the offensive line issues, I don't think that he would have kept that wide receiver 39 uh kind of average so far. So this is definitely a win for Rasheed Shahed. I think this will take away maybe a couple targets for JSN, but JSN was on a pretty unsustainable path. This just makes them a really hard out in the playoffs because I think their defense, like we saw last year, is only going to get better as the season progresses. Uh, getting like their second rounder Nicki Main Warrior, their safety, like in a really good spot. So, I think the defense is only going to get better and it's already the best in the league. And now like you actually get a well-rounded offense with Shahid complimenting JSN way better than Cooper Cup ever would have done. So, this is a this team I do think like this team that could win the Super Bowl, which is crazy, but I do think like this was like a nice cherry on top um addition. It was only like at the equivalent of like the hundth overall pick.
>> Seahawks are forcing opposing defenses into base personnel. So, just four defensive backs on the field 48% of the time. The next closest in the NFL is the Patriots at 43%. Number one in the league last year was only 41% and that was also Clint Kubak's >> Yep. >> New Orleans Saints. Uh I freaking love this. And on top of it, Hayden, you know, Shahid has always been a burner. Whenever you see him on red zone, it's these big downfield shots that he's catching, but then when you and I go back and watch his stuff on Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday, he has more wide receiver skills than people give him credit for. You know, he actually has tempo. He, you know, has amazing movement in terms of he can turn that vertical route into an outside breaking route or turn down and come back towards quarterback. Look, he's not the biggest. He needs a contract after this year, too. Maybe they get it done on top of it. And that would be a shot to whatever dynasty shares people have in Tory Horton. At the same time, who even knows if they can keep Clint Kubak beyond this year because he's probably going to be the hottest uh OC to head coach name on the market this offseason. But just for the rest of the season and the NFL playoffs, this is exactly the type of shot this type of team should make because it makes a strength even stronger and you're able to keep your identity on top of it. How should people interpret this for Tory Horton?
>> Well, this is pretty much a better version of Tory Horton right now. I really liked what Tory Horton did this last game. He had three man coverage wins. I think there's a chance that Tory Horton like could still be like the number three wide receiver and they just move Cooper Cup to wide receiver coach or something like that. But I think Cooper Cup would make a hell of a like slot wide receiver and like you what you said 30% of the snaps are in three wide receiver sets. I think Cooper Cup will go into that role. Tory Horton, we'll see you in the future here. A good insurance policy at that. But Seahawks are interesting because they have $79 million in cap space this next season. So I'm guessing their plan is Rasheed Shahed, we traded for you to resign you. They did not agree to a deal right now. So there's a lot of leverage for Rasheed Shahi, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do try to sign him and then Tory Horton will be kind of this like wide receiver three in rotation as he develops. But I think if they would have threw Tory Horton out there that he would have been just fine. I just think that Rasheed Jahed's mobility in and out of the breaks is just at another level than Tory Hortons.
>> Yeah, I mean I think the Seahawks lead the NFL with a 21% explosive play rate at this moment. I I mean I'm just so happy. I'm I'm so happy with this move. Uh, okay. Let's move it on to Oh, and just quickly on that, shout out to Rashid Shahed from going from undrafted rookie and getting the dreaded exclusive rights for agent tag where you live in like contract hell for multiple years, can't make any money, and then now this offseason, he's going to get paid. So, >> what a story. Rashi is >> Let's going over quickly to the New Orleans Saints. Uh, obviously they're the one that dealt away Rashidah. Right now they have one win on the season. Right now if the NFL draft happened today they would have the number one overall pick. Uh how do they replace Rashid Shahid in their starting lineup?
>> Devon Vele of course right remember this is where I went immediately when I saw this. They traded for Devon. They got a fourthrounder and then a seventh round pick swap. They traded away Rashiji. They got a fourth rounder back. So they basically upgraded from a seventh rounder to a fifth rounder. And Devon Bailey and Rashiji are on completely different planets. So, I think those two moves put together make the Saints look really really incompetent. Um, and and that's that's just a really bad look in general. Now, if this is the best offer that they could have gotten, then I understand it. They did get like real draft capital here. Like the draft picks will matter for um for the Saints building for the future. But at the same time, I would have also considered just signing Rasheed Shahid. you're going to have potentially the first overall pick, a rookie quarterback, and it would make that quarterback's life a whole lot easier if you had two wide receivers that you can throw the ball to reliably. So, yeah, it was an interesting decision that they had to make. It seemed like they were destined on just trading one of these two guys. Um, I never understood why they had to trade one of these two guys, but they at least got something.
>> I never understood why they made that move to get Devon. I mean, he's been wide receiver four in snaps so far this season, even running behind Brandon Cooks. He's actually older than Rashi by a few months.
>> Yeah.
>> By about six months.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, and look, I understand that Rashi is going to have a new contract and Devon is on a rookie deal at 27 years of age, but guess what? One guy is a way better football player than the other one is. And they're different stylings of players, too. So, we'll see. It just uh doesn't look good right now in New Orleans. Let's put it that way.
>> Last thing. People always say salary cap is fake. I think this Rasheed Shahid trade is a perfect example of the salary cap not being fake because they're in the red by $13 million next year. The only they've been shedding money for years and years and years. The only reason why they're not signing Rasheed Shied is because they don't have that much money and this team stinks. So like all those years for years and years and years where everyone's saying the salary cap is fake. Well, now you have a guy that you should be costcontrolled, resigning, great player, good dude, and he's gone. Now he's a Seattle Seahawk for no reason other than the Saints just don't have any draft picks in or draft uh cap space, and that's why their team stinks. So, I think like all those people are just completely misguided on the salary cap being fake. This is a heck of a deal for the Seahawks in that it's a fourth and a fifth round pick for the talent of Rashichi, especially if they're able to get a long-term deal done for him because what JSN is going to have his new deal in a couple years. You have all of probably the bulk of Rashichi's contract in those first two years until JSN's maybe next contract kicks in there. Talents like this like Rashic are not available in free for agency. Again, you only have to draft them, find them as an undrafted free agent or trade for them and it's just a fourth and a fifth round pick. Like let's not forget that Amari Cooper went for a third round pick last season. Like Jonathan Mingo went for what? A fourth round pick last season as well. Like Rasheed Shahed is 90% of what Jameson Williams is out there. Like people don't want to hear that. To me, when I watch the two, that's exactly what I see. and getting that type of a player when it is your window to win and you have a chance of making it far and deep into the playoffs with this style of defense >> and you know an offensive coordinator he's already >> has plenty of experience with. It's a no-brainer.
>> Yep. Totally agree.
>> It's an A+ for me. A plus deal here.
>> Yeah, I love it.
>> Love it.
>> One more wide receiver move. Jacksonville Jaguars trade for Jacobe Myers. I think I floated this one either on Sunday's show or a show last week that he should just fly back with them from their game in Las Vegas. Uh overall, this Jaguars team 18 drops by the wide receivers. Trevor Lawrence dealing with 24 drops in totality, easily the most in the NFL. So, what Jacobe Myers does is one, he gets to play with a former wide receiver coach of his and two, uh, he shouldn't drop the football and he will probably know where to line up and how to line up and get out of the huddle and not have this pre-nap confusion that has really plagued this Jaguars team, who, by the way, are dealing with a Travis Hunter injury and now a lowderee high ankle sprain for Brian Thomas. This move I thought was a it makes sense just he's good at zone coverage. That's what Jacksonville's been really bad at. They're trying to play this middle ground game where we don't know if Travis Hunter's returning, but if he does, it would be like for the playoffs and they have to get there. Brian Thomas has this injury which we don't know the timetable. So like Jacobe Myers fits in. He's going to help the Jaguars this year. Where I struggle with this one is he's an expiring contract. Next year when they're going to resign him, he'll be 30 years old. If they do resign him, it's to be the third wide receiver on the team and 30 year old wide receivers and Jacobe Meyers has been like all right. I think it's one of his worst seasons this year compared to his like very reliable seasons previously. That makes me a little bit nervous. And on top of that, they have a 56% chance of making the playoffs. They have a 1% chance to win the Super Bowl. So to me, like the Seahawks getting Rasheed Shahed, that's a cherry on top piece. Jacobe Myers to Jacksonville is like, "Please, let's please make the playoffs for dear God here." And maybe that works, but I just don't see like the big upside here. Um, so I think he'll help Jacksonville try to win the next couple games. He'll probably be the flanker uh while Parker Washington's in the slot and then he'll probably be the flanker if they can get Travis Hunter back who's been playing in the slot the entire year. That's a fine role for Jacobe Myers. I think that he's like a wide receiver two like quickly kind of declining to wide receiver three status for NFL teams. So with that compared to Rasheed Jied, I would much rather have the Rasheed Sheet side of it.
>> This is a ton of investment at the wide receiver position for the Jacksonville Jaguars over the last couple years. Let's not forget about the Gabe Davis contract that you know the previous regime gave out. Then you had Brian Thomas Jr. first round selection. Travis Hunter in a double first round pick selection here. Yes. Uh then you also had the Tim Patrick deal and then now you have this one. And it's not like that has been a clean wide receiver room so far this season. So again, you would like to think that the veteran presence coming in here allows you to stabilize that. And if that's the case, maybe they do sign him in the future and it's not just a short-term rental. Yeah. But I guess I'm just viewing it as a short-term rental. also with like Dami Brown and his $10 million coming off uh of the cap space uh I should say off of the books this this summer. But yeah, Jacob's just like, you know, he's he's a fine player and he can live in that short to intermediate game where most of Liam Cohen passive attack is is coming from. But their playoff run is going to be dictated on if Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter like come back and create big explosive plays for them because other than that you're kind of working with this running game which has been down since the start of the season and then you have like the Parker Washington and now Jacobe Myers passing attack and then Britain Strange has been dealing with injuries on top of it. So I get it. You won four games out of the gate. You felt really good about yourselves and it's kind of been a little bit worse since then. Um, but James Gladson just unafraid of making deal after deal when it comes to NFL draft. And now to the trade deadline stuff >> for Jacksonville. They're currently the seventh seed. I don't think they're going to be able to catch the Colts in
Their division. The two teams behind them for the seventh seed in the wild card. It's the Chiefs and the Ravens. So, they've got their work cut out for them to stay in the playoff hunt here. They have a negative point differential on the season because the last month has not gone well for him. So, I would say this is a very risky deal. Did not like this one for Jacksonville. Even if I like the fit, like I think schematically it's going to help Jacksonville. I didn't like the price for it. This is too much of f them picks and if I was a GM in the NFL, I would make sure to keep calling Gladstone because he seems to be overly aggressive, overly ambitious, which like I think is fun for content. I'm not sure if it's the best way to actually build a team. They like you said, they've invested a lot into the wide receiver position. They're still trying to hunt for these guys and it's just going to make if they do sign Jacobe Myers that makes the Brown acquisition look worse in hindsight and we'll see what they're going to do with Brian Thomas and then is Travis Hunter be playing more cornerback because of this. It just gets really messy for me. So I like this for the Raiders side a lot more than I did for Jacksonville.
The other part of this is Jacksonville did have 13 picks in the 2026 NFL draft. Now they're down to 11. Like I don't think you can add 13 players to their roster next season. At the same time, you could package those and move up and down and all that stuff. And again, they don't have their first round pick this year.
Those are all bad picks. Yeah. It's not like, oh, they have 13 picks. They're like all six.
They do have a good chunk of like second and third rounders. So, it's not all like fifth and sixth rounders and those types of things. So, again, at some point, you have to move those picks. And rather than, you know, packaging them and moving up in the draft, they decided to package some of them and get a veteran presence at wide receiver at the trade deadline.
I would have just gone for a cost-controlled rookie for the next couple years than trying to be all-in for this team. Like what what does this team think they are right now? Like this is a very mediocre team.
They think they're very good. I gave this one a C plus.
That's kind of where I was too, but it was like being generous.
Yeah. C B minus. Uh, okay. Let's quickly hit on some, and no offense to these people, but some smaller deals throughout the NFL. Uh, the Cowboys first made a move for linebacker Logan Wilson, who had already had a falling out with the Cincinnati Bengals and had been replaced by uh, two rookies who have been dreadful.
Yeah, he's better than what the Cowboys were trotting out there at linebackers.
Kenneth Murray, and all those guys have been terrible, too. So, it's like replacing a veteran bad with another veteran bad.
Yeah. Logan Wilson I think is too slow to be like a reliable option but the bar is very low. So for a seventh rounder in I guess improving your defense it's kind of just for show because like I said they're at 4% chance of making the playoffs. So like any improvement that they make it doesn't really matter at all.
I should have let off with some bigger names. So let's go like the Philadelphia Eagles for example who are trying to retool on defense on the fly. Uh they added two corners in Michael Carter and Gier Alexander. Uh, and then they also added today early in the morning, Jaylen Phillips, the often injured edge rusher from the Miami Dolphins.
I really like the Jaylen Phillips deal. Just a bet on upside, see if he can get healthier. Um, and there's like comp uh pick reasons if Jaylen Phillips does have a a good uh stretch here for for the comp formula. The they were so desperate at corner that Michael Carter and Jerry Alexander should like plug in some holes. They'll just like pretty much host tryyouts down down the stretch there. that they knew where they're they were weak uh weakest at. That was at edge rusher and that was that corner. And I like all of these moves. They were a lot cheaper than the other moves we talked about. So like once again, like hate to give Howy Roseman credit, but like I thought there was more upside for the cost with these moves than there was uh on a lot of these other moves we talked about.
The second outside corner spot could actually derail a Super Bowl run for the Philadelphia Eagles. It has been that bad for them this season. So, if they get that right, then uh their defense looks better. And if they have, you know, an edge rusher when they try to sign Zadarius Smith and then Brendan Graham's coming on retirement and all that type of stuff, uh that would help them as well. I think Nolan Smith's uh window has also been opened in practice.
Uh speaking of edge rushers, the Chicago Bears spent heftily in free agency to get Dio Oingbo and he tore his Achilles here in week nine. And so on the trade deadline, they add Joe Triion Troya, who I believe is a former first round pick from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and signed a smaller deal with the Cleveland Browns. And a six round pick was sent in the opposite direction.
This one doesn't matter at all. They had to like get an edge rusher, but like he'll be in the rotation. So like for Bears fans is it's exciting. Does it move the needle across the NFL landscape? It doesn't. Bears are like holding on for Dash to try to make the the wild card round and he will help them with that. But the they've lost they were just too injured on defense in general. Like they've lost too many of their their better players on defense and that's why they've been bad.
Ravens added Draymond Jones who's kind of been this hybrid defensive tackle slashmassive defensive end. I don't think there's really anything else to add here other than the Ravens have been honestly like circulating their edge rushers. We know they traded away Odaf Ooway a couple weeks ago. Cal Venoi is still their best edge presence. I'm not sure where Draymond Jones is going to fit in this, but uh the Ravens, albeit a losing record, are trying to add pieces to their roster, too.
Yeah, this is just pretty much a free upside shot as well with them. They're always just rotating their guys. They're desperately just missing defensive tackle play. That's just been one of the reasons why they've been bad to start the season. But the Ravens defense just in general is a lot healthier now just in general from linebacker to to corner. Um, and then Vanoi missed some time. So, I do think the Ravens defense is going to look a lot better down the stretch.
Well, the last move of the trade deadline was the Los Angeles Chargers adding also former first round offensive lineman Trevor Penning, who has played tackle on the left side, tackle on the right side, and has most recently played guard. We know that Joe Alt will miss the remainder of the season. They've also already losing Ray Sean Slater, too. So, Hayden, do we think this is one last chance for Trevor Penning at offensive tackle in the NFL? Yeah, I don't know how injured Mai Beckton is, but he potentially could be a Mai Beckton replacement, but it also could go kick back out to left tackle with Joe Walt. Either way, you're talking about a backup level player. Um, they've tried they've experimented a million different times. There's a reason why the Saints keep drafting lineman in the first round to kind of fill the gap to replace Trevor Penn.
In multiple spots, they're like, "All right, we got we'll we'll start him here." That didn't work out. Now, we just got to get rid of him. I did understand it like you got to have some some depth. Um, yeah, Joe Al's not going to return this year. So pretty sad.
Last thought for me, unless you have some others, I think it is unbelievably bad roster management for the Cincinnati Bengals to still have Trey Hendrickson on their roster after today. Uh who knows what happens in the future with franchise tag and all that type of stuff. He doesn't want to be there, right? But with all of the kind of draft compensation we discussed, I'm not saying he's going to go for a first round pick and maybe they're holding out for that. You know, he's over the age of 30. He doesn't have a long-term contract, even though you could work that out. Um, the Bengals are going nowhere this year. Get something in return for him. And they just didn't. And so now you have an unhappy player on the second or worst defense in the NFL. and we'll see. I think even if he plays like that much the rest of the season because of this.
There's only a couple teams that have a less than 1% chance of making the playoffs. The Bengals are one of them. They're the team that did not move any of their guys. Like the Raiders trade somebody, the Titans traded away players. The Jets and Dolphins traded away players. The Saints traded away players. The Bengals did not. And same thing with uh the Giants. So, if you've been eliminated from the playoffs, you got to start trading away some of your players. So, I also get it. like inexcusable for the Bengals to not do it.
Any other things you want to bring up like uh Tom Brady cloning his dog?
Yeah, I was gonna say what a news dump for Tom Brady. Just do this right before you announcing this for the first the first part of this, but uh he picked a good time to do it.
Again, better investment than you know signing up for the dreadful soccer organization and becoming a part owner of Birmingham City. He loves corpses out there. That's going to do it.
