Yeah. I don't know if you remember, but I used to have empathy as a value. Yeah.
And over time in my life, I started to embrace my dragons, and I started to realize that from my dragons came the superpower of empathy. So I bring empathy wherever I go. And there was a shift once, like you said, going through the values and re-evaluating them on a regular basis, maybe not like every day, but like once a year or once a half year. Um, something can shift, and one day I realized I don't need others to give me empathy to thrive. I can actually even, and I do coach some people, which lean more on the dark triad of traits, you know, like they don't really have empathy. They struggle with it, and I can still thrive in that space because I'm able to, um, hold courageous conversations with them. Uh, I'm able to see them and give them space without, let's say, requiring them to feel me.
And so, like you said, uh, values, they're not, um, let's say, forever. Some values, they, they don't change as much as convictions and stuff, but they, they will stick with you through life, like reliability for me. But they, they um, can transform as we grow and we realize, hm, I don't actually need that anymore to thrive. Yeah, that's true.
And I, I also find it, I mean, the other way around. I feel, I don't know, I feel there is sometimes some sort of maybe shame around some values. You know what I mean? Yes. Like the one, um, appreciation. I added it. I added it. I don't know if...
I read, I read, I read your post and I was like, holy, what happened to you? I held so much shame that I needed that. Yeah. That I, and imagine, I give this course all the time. I talk about values and everything, and I think I have always needed it. But because of my upbringing, because of the convictions of others in my space, it was like, no, if you're a good person, then you don't need appreciation. And one day I felt, let's say, whole enough that and confident enough in in my worth that I was able to embrace this new value. It. It's not that it was new, but I was able to bring it out of the shadow and embrace it and say, you know what, I do need appreciation to. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. I have.
So with this, I'm still playing like which one it is and does it make on the list of values because I also agree, like, like to limit a bit that list. Like I am also between like acknowledgement, appreciation, or so. And but I did realize that some, we are sort of, yeah, ashamed to say, you know, I want acknowledgement because it sounds like I'm this, I don't know. Needy. Yeah, needy.
