Claude + Fusion 360 I Tested It On 2 Designs Using MCP Connection

All right, so I did a video about Autodesk Fusion, Fusion 360 specifically, connecting to Claude, and there were quite a few questions. And I just wanted to use this video to help answer a few of those questions. One being like, hey, does this work with my account? How much does this cost? So, this is a subscription-based tool, Fusion 360. And if you want to just find out, hey, will this work inside of my Fusion 360 account? You would go to the top right-hand corner where your initials are and then you go to preferences. And that's that blue little icon right here. You just click on that and then open up preferences. Inside of preferences, you'll be in general, and next, you want to click on API.

All right, the next thing you want to do is come down to after you end API, you'll see Fusion MCP server. You should see it says runs locally on this device. So if you can check this option, it will work with Fusion 360 as long as you have the desktop version of Claude and Fusion 360 is running. This has to be on, okay? And so if you can check this, just I had a question about, can I use my personal account? Can I use this account? Um, inside of any one of those accounts, follow this step and you should be able to either check this, or it may be grayed out, or you may not even see it. All right, so if you have this option available, you should be able to use it.

One of the main questions was, you know, hey, can this create something more complex? Some, this is something I created. Um, you know, I wanted to have rulers and stuff here, one, two, three, four. And I, but I didn't want them to be straight up. I wanted them kind of be like displayed in a way to where I can see each individual one. It's some, some idea I had in my mind, right? We all do it. We have these little ideas in our mind. I wonder if we can. And so this was one of these ideas and I created it, and it took me a little bit of, quite, quite a bit of time. But one of the ideas was, hey, can you create this from, can you create a Fusion 360 design from a blank slate using a completely, um, different design with, you know, like the sketches on there and stuff? So that's what we're going to do. I'm going to see if I can actually use Fusion 360, I'm sorry, use Claude to create inside of Fusion 360 something much more complex. Now, obviously, this won't have anything moving or rotating. It'll still be, you know, three-dimensional, but it won't have any rotating parts.

And real quick, there was also a question like, hey, how many tokens does this use? It probably uses all your tokens. It does, it is token-heavy. So I will say it does use a lot. This is the 5x plan, and I'm on 4 hours and 8 minutes. I'm currently at 10% used, okay? So this is where I'm starting off. I'll do a sketch, right? And so the sketch will be from these four, and I have four of them here. Um, I actually probably just choose this one for now, which is the third sketch, and I'll blow this up. So I'll upload this to Claude to see if it can create this. Let me go back to see if it can create this. It has, you know, a lot of the information in here to be able to create it, and it should be able to. This is not a difficult piece to create. Um, so it should be able to from me uploading this image and dimensions be able to create this type of design, and that's what I'm here to test out to see if it actually will work and how many tokens are we going to actually use to do this. So, so again, I'm on Claude desktop, specifically Claude co-work to do this.

All right, so now you see that it's actually uploaded, and I'll say, and by the way, I've been messing with it before. I haven't actually tried this one, but I'll just say something like, hey, create this in Fusion 360, um, you know, and I'll just leave it at that. I won't be too specific. And before I get started, I did get, um, there was an idea of, here it is, right here, I think. If you need, oh, he says, if you need AI design, then you probably find a new job. Use, use your creativity. Don't be so lazy. I, I, it's hard to agree and disagree because this stuff is difficult, and when I first started, I didn't know how to create this stuff, and so I had to use my imagination and my creativity. But for somebody new, this isn't something that's going to completely do everything, but it at least possibly help you out in explaining what you're looking at, what you created, and give you, I would say, a good starting, starting line, like a good base. I don't think it's going to be able to create these very complex designs yet because it couldn't do what it can do right now a few, uh, a week ago. So it's hard to say that it won't be able to create complex designs when it can create a design, right? It's only a matter of time until it does understand how to make more complex things. And by the way, this was the other one. Can you feed it an isometric view of something with dimensions and see how it does recreating? Thanks. This is Matts9143. And so I just asked him, hey, give me the prompt, and, um, yeah, he did. So here it is, and I, I pretty much copied this and put it in Claude to say, hey, I didn't even know what he was talking about, to be honest with you. I may not know a lot of the names and know how to do some of the things I know how to do, but, um, listen, there's a lot of you in here that's very smart, and if you have an idea, if you have a business and you want to bring it forth, hey, we can do a video together showcasing your business or showcasing your tool that you've built or made that you may want to resell. I have no problem with that. Just reach out to me either in the comments or, um, look at the about section, and you can find how to contact me in there, and I, hey, we can do a video one-on-one and I'll post it, and, you know, we see where it goes from there. This was also going to be hopefully answering your question, and I don't mind if you guys had prompts that you want me to try. You want to try it on my account? Like I just, give me the prompts. I'll, I'll try it myself, and that's one of the things I'm doing right now.

So it says, does Claude? Yes, so somebody answered that. Can I use open Claude or Nemo Claude with LLM connected to Fusion desk? I believe you can because, like for instance, Hermes or open Claude, you would just, they just support number, and it's an MCP connection. So you should be able to. I haven't used it, but I believe that the fact that you can connect MCPs and stuff to open Claude and Hermes and all of those agents, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to just go on Telegram and do the same thing. It's just using a different interface and a different chatbot.

All right, so here we are, um, about to hit enter on this one, and we're going to see what it does. All right, so it has the image, and it has pretty much what I asked it to, to create. Now I'll open this into a full view. And so this way it'll have, and I don't know what, maybe you, some of you probably want me to let this play out to to see how long this is, this will take. I'm looking at the time that I clicked that, and that probably was like, uh, at like 30 seconds ago. And so I don't know how long this will take. So instead of you sitting here watching this whole thing, um, I'll pause it, and I'll kind of let you know how long it took, and I'll let you know how many tokens it used or the percentage of my 5-hour limit, right? I'll let you know where we're at after it com- finishes creating this design right here.

All right, so I'm back. I actually didn't notice that this thing was already, it actually had the time of how long it was taking. And so right now it's at 5 minutes, and I know the CAD engineers in here will definitely be able to build this in in that time because this is not a super complex. And this was the thing it was building right here was this design. And that probably took, um, easy 10 minutes, uh, sketch asking. I'm just going through exactly all of the things that it says. Uh, and if you want everything that it says, I'll, I'll put it in the description, but all right, so it's finished, and this is what we were trying to create. You see these are not perfectly circular holes. Let's see. I mean, that looks good, and there's a lot in here. I'm not going to go through all of what it said it was doing. If you want, I'll copy and paste it into the, uh, into the description, but look at it. It looks, it looks pretty good, and it created this text right here. So let's, looks good. Now let's just see. Look at that. It, I, if y'all not impressed, I am. I mean, I'm, I'm impressed. Now, granted, no, this is not some super complicated thing, but it created this, um, from the image of a screenshot. Created it from a screenshot. And I can verify, I'll verify just to see, okay, so we have here, just verify the distance from here to here in this top piece. And it says 110 millimeters. And I'll open up that section that shows the height from here to here. And as you can see, it says 110 millimeters. All right, so I mean, this, that's accurate, right? And I guess the other thing we could check is maybe the distance from the rear of this thing, but man, this looks good. Um, I'll do a couple little cross-references and see if you guys can see some things that I may have missed or something, but, uh, says 10 millimeters. Um, from here to here, 180. And let's just, let's just see if that's in there, 180 from that section. Um, vertical. And it may not have it in there. I just wanted to see if it actually put that information, um, on here. But as you can see, I mean, this is very, very close to what I've asked for, if not spot on. So, um, oh, here it is. 180. This thing is spot on. Boom. Boom.

All right, so the other thing we'll do something a little more complicated. Now, I believe that because it had so much information to go off of, that was also very helpful. Oh, let's see how much I've used since then. All right, and as you can see, I was at 10%. It has used 13% to create that object. And so this shows you, remember, we before we started, we was at 10%, and I haven't touched it. I just let this run. This is the only thing running, and it's used from 10% up to 23%, which gives us 13% of my usage. All right? And so this gives you a very clear understanding of this takes 13% to make. Now, granted, I know the engineers watching this are probably going to say, hey, I could have made that thing in 3 minutes while while making some coffee and scrambling some eggs and building a website. I believe you. But again, this may not be meant for the true die-hard engineers that that really understand at a deeper level and that are creating things that the world is using, right? This may be something in the beginning, good for, um, beginners. I probably should have did a vote to see which one we should try to do next. This may be a little more difficult for it. Only be because, only because I don't think it has as much information to go off of. And so there it is. I think the lack of information will cause it probably to fail. But hey, I'mma do this one next. This is tab two, and we're going to see how long it takes and, uh, as far as my usage, how much usage gets used, and I'm starting at 23%.

All right, so now you can see I'll do the next one. And here it is. It's inside. I won't give it any information. I'll just say create this like you did the other one. All right? That's all I'mma go off, and I'll just open into a new section, and I'll just let it run. All right, so we'll see what happens. Now, I probably should have had you guys like vote on like, I guess one that we should or two that we could run, and that we all agreed on, and then did like a little vote. Uh, maybe, maybe we'll do that in another, another video, or maybe this is, maybe this is sufficient. Um, but we'll see. All right, I just want you to see what came on the screen while I was waiting for it to be done. And this is not 13 seconds. It's been going for a few minutes now. But so far, this is currently what it has. I just wanted you to, uh, wanted you guys to see what where it's at. So it looks like it's finishing up, and it did not succeed. This is what we were trying to create. And it has some pieces in place, but clearly not this, right? So I believe based off the, based off of the instructions that it has inside of these, um, screenshots is the limiting factor or how good it can do. And it says for the section view, the assignment asks for, um, right, blah, blah, Fusion's drawings workspace. Once 3D is finalized, you can generate proper section drawings, uh, where the dimensions and hatch hatching. Uh, want me to refine the geometry further? Add the included hub angle. Oh, okay. So I'll just say add everything. Before I say add everything, you see what it's done so far. Let's see how much it's actually used from the 23%.

All right, so here you go. You can see clearly, um, it used 7% to create those cylinders, which that's a whole lot, right? Um, but yeah, now that I'm at 30%. Was at 23, and now that I'm at 30%, you can see the usage to create just that specifically. And so all I told it was yes, complete everything, uh, cuz clearly this is not complete, and we'll see what it does, um, from here. All right, it's finished. Let's see if it actually, uh, did it or not. And no, it did not. This is not what we asked for. This is definitely not what we want. And again, I really do think it has something to do with the instructions it's given. Um, and so it, it, it did not complete the task, I would say. Um, and here it gives you information. And like I've said, I, I said that, yeah, just complete everything from this previous question. So I will call this one a fail. But for what it can do, hey, it is pretty cool to see it even get to this point. And I will say that the fact that it can get to this point, let's say it can't do everything that we've asked it to do, right, the first time, or even the second time. The fact that it is at this point is letting you know it is only going to get better. Because I, you remember when AI back then was, it just felt stupid, right? And, and it really wasn't as, as good as it is now. And when you look back and see where it was at to where it is now, you can see the iteration on the performance and just it being able to do and accomplish so many things. I don't think this is a feature they are trying to hone and fine-tune, make this like completely replace a person that get that starts designing these things. But if they put the effort into really, really focusing on this, and it may be the model by it just getting better will be able to do these same things. I tried it. It worked. It worked on the other on one thing. Uh, I'm sorry, that's, that's the thing I built. But it worked on this. This looked good. Everything looked good on this one. Uh, but it did not work on the second image. And that's okay, you know, it's, it's part of, hey, as much as I've tried to build stuff in the beginning, just learning, I didn't even know what the difference between a sketch was and a cylinder and extrude and, you know, you learn those things as you go, and I believe that this will also learn as it go and gets better. And if there is like, oh man, this can't do this, hey, come on the channel and, and voice your opinion if you want. I'm happy to hear it, and I'm sure others will be too. I forgot. I wanted to show y'all before we went from 30 to 37%. So as you can see, it used 7% again, just for what it didn't complete. All right, so now you know how much it used. You know how to activate this. You know that this is a subscription. And you know that there's some things it can do and some things it can't do. We'll leave it.
